Metalminds and steel vision; steelpushing on Roshar
Landis963 replied to Valtak's question in Cosmere Q&A
Khriss also calls it Shadesmar, but given that the Rosharan system has an entire civilization of Cognitive beings, and three entire subsets of Invested people that interface directly with the Cognitive Realm, it's not too farfetched to think that Silverlight would simply adopt their words for it. Especially when "The Cognitive Realm" becomes too unwieldy to use in a sentence. -
They knew it before they Returned (indeed, it is why they Returned), but they forget everything before the Return until they can complete their mission.

I note that Elsric doesn't appear to have access to atium-compounding, or else his complaints about his old age would be vastly different. Indeed, I would hazard that Elsric has very little practical experience with burning atium, given that each of the "legends of the Hero of Ages" (clever, that) go out of their way to highlight a different weakness of atium - namely, atium users can be caught off-guard by an opponent's more strategic use of it, that atium use relies on the opponent moving first, and that atium use does not provide the physical boost of, say, pewter. Which, in turn, suggests "not Mistborn." However, this flies in the face of his known ability to traverse the Cognitive Realm - he's been to Silverlight and Roshar, after all - by ascribing to him a level of inherent Investiture commensurate to a normal Scadrian human. The ones whose souls poof away to the Beyond within seconds after death. Perhaps the example of Khriss is a better comparison, given that she appears not to have any magic at her personal disposal, unlike, say, a Knight Radiant, or a Mistborn. (Or the example of Nazh, for similar reasons) But those two are veteran travelers of Shadesmar, and know where exactly all the Silverlight-constructed infrastructure is, two things that Elsric (assuming my conjecture of his first worldhop is correct) would not have at his disposal. So I admit to a bit of confusion.

If any spren was brave enough to make the bond, they wouldn't need to make multiple parts in order to work as a non-rigid skeleton, because (once the bond gets to that level) they can shapeshift that quickly to begin with. They might take issue with being stuck inside their 'Binder's body all the time, though.

"The Ancient of Stones must finally begin to crack; it is a wonder that upon his will rested the security and peace of the world for 4 millenia." I believe is closer to the exact wording.

Misunderstood Intents in the Cosmere
Landis963 replied to 1stBondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
"Honor" implies that he would be incapable of betraying an ally. Also, Honor is dead and Cultivation is not, so if he had the opportunity to sacrifice Cultivation for himself, he didn't take it.- 5 replies

Discord, I think. The name "Harmony" might be an invention of Ruin's.
-
Maybe he lowered the threshold to labor a la Vin Snapping into a Mistborn during her ("exceptionally difficult", IIRC) birth? The newborn Allomancers wouldn't know they had powers until they ingested metal. Although if he wanted to make Allomancy completely safe, he'd have just lowered the threshold to some bad sickness or something.

Assuming Taldain is still a thing that exists in the Cosmere, Autonomy has Invested in Taldain and is still relatively free to meddle (or so it appears). Scadrial might be a special case in that it was not a thing before Ruin and Preservation arrived, which implies a much greater Investment than a planet that was already there.

I was aiming for Hemalurgy so I could learn whether or not I could use it as a plot point in a campaign I'm developing. (The things that need to come into play are too coincidental to ever happen, even with the unpredictability of player characters in the mix, but it's good to have it just in case. Or to see whether or not I should develop a substitute)
-
Well, my other questions - regarding the outer limits of Adonalsium's influence and the possibility of alternate Adonalsium-esque entities in other parts of the universe - are complete RAFO-bait. Besides, he can always surprise us. (In addition, I suspect that the only thing in Hemalurgy's way back then was the fact that Scadrial wasn't a thing - Ruin's Investiture, by contrast, certainly was)
-
Is there a WoB on that?
-
In recent interrogations interviews Brandon's official word on the matter is "He took a bead of lerasium, he's used allomancy, you figure it out." I take this to mean that 2+2 does in fact equal 4, no more no less. Coupling that with snarky remarks Hoid himself has made on the matter (e.g. "I protect [the element] like I protect my own skin") and it should be very clear-cut and obvious. But then again, this fandom wouldn't be the same if we didn't muddy up even the clearest of Cosmere issues.
-
If a Hemalurgist (presuming he had a working knowledge of the relevant bind points) were to (somehow) time-travel to before the Shattering of Adonalsium, would he be able to actually spike out and implant traits like he could post-creation of Scadrial?
-
Wasn't there another WoB that states that "Harmony" is just Sazed's interpretation of Ruin+Preservation? In that sense I think it would be very easy for Rashek to merge the two without becoming Harmony.
-
It was a Shallan flashback in WoR. Hoid dumped a mysterious powder into his own drink, gulped it down, then people started to act ever-so-slightly out of character when Hoid was focused on them.

Might Elsric not know about the Set's minions? The only reason we know that the Set has Shadows in their employ is because the camera was on a "Fakeless Immortal" when it alluded to that fact. I don't see any reason why revelations from The Lost Metal can't be omitted from any such letter regarding Shadows.

This is true, given enough Stormlight. However, I was mainly referring to logistical problems such as "How do you breathe?" and "What happens when tissue damage caused by the vacuum of space outpaces the Stormlight healing factor?"

I suspect that the answer to that question depends greatly on the Surgebinder's point of view. If they think their Lashing is "at right angle to 'down'" (disregarding, of course, that they would never think that in so many words) then they'd circle the planet. If they divorce their understanding of the Lashing from their understanding of the gravity of the planet, then it is feasible that they would exit orbit. Which brings up enough logistical problems that it's probably a good thing no one's figured out how to do that yet in-story.

The Splintercast Reads Edgedancer, Episode 1
Landis963 commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
In fairness to the Nightwatcher, what she gives you does have at least some connection to what you asked for. However, there's always a curse attached (which is explicitly independent of the boon), and if you stump her then all bets are off. (Note that in Lift's debut interlude Wyndle was completely perplexed as to what on Roshar Lift could possibly have asked for, to get Lift's special brand of Edgedancer-ness) Also, the Purelakers' evil god was Vun Makak.- 27 comments

I like this idea, however I would add the caveat that Ruin and Preservation literally created the entire planet from scratch, book-of-Genesis style. That would involve a higher degree of Investment than just finding a planet (a la Roshar, or Sel) and Investing in that.

And that is very true, if the star chart were created on some planet (and also IRL, which I suspect is where your point is coming from). However, it's fairly well accepted that (in the absence of textual evidence or definitive WoB) Silverlight is in the Cognitive Realm, despite the weirdness involved in providing an entire city with the requisite Investiture. Therefore, unless the author of the chart deliberately went to a breathable yet uninhabited planet (or if we're all wrong about Silverlight being in the Cognitive, which I can't in good faith rule out) specifically to create this chart, it must have some relevance to the distances between subastrals. Ergo, it could have some utility in plotting a course between planets. Ah, good ol' Nicholas "IJCHNDFTTHBD" Barebones. There's a pretty interesting history series on the adoption of paper money (and his role therein) on the Extra Play Youtube channel, if you want to check that out.
