  1. Brandon has confirmed that the safe hand is always the left hand, and that it is rough on lighteyed lefties (not so much darkeyes because they can just wear a glove).
  2. Arsteel was not killed before the Manywar, he died relatively recently before the book.
  3. Yeah the people who have lost their minds are actually called "Hoed" HOH-EED. Aon are always pronounced with hard vowels. So if you were to pronounce Hoid's name Aonically (which you shouldn't 'cause his name is not based off of an Aon) than it would be HOH-EYED. Hoid's name is actually pronounced as a single syllable, HOYD.
  4. Incorrect the Terris alphabet (i.e. the Feruchemical symbols) and the Steel Alphabet are both descended from the ancient Terris symbols found in HoA.
  5. TheYoungBard, this is the Elantris sub-forum, you don't need to be putting things in spoiler tags.
  6. @TheYoungBard, yes it is confirmed. Brandon's speech during the Shadows of Self tour (of which there are several videos/recordings of) actually touches on it. Unfortunately Javapython_, the thing is that you've got things a little backwards. Brandon did base the Aons and the writing system on the relationship between Hangul and Chinese characters, but in this metaphor the Aons are the Chinese characters.
  7. Do you happen to know which signing your friend asked this at? If so, would you mind posting about it in that event's thread in the Evens and Signings forum?
  8. Eh I think it's pretty clear that the Second letter is a response to the first one. They both mention similar things because the Recipient is responding to the things that Hoid is bringing up (except for the element as that is Hoid's bead of lerasium, not the gemstone).
  9. Yeah I just double checked this again (though I know I've checked in the past because I thought the same thing when I first noticed it) but the way it reads, to me at least, makes it pretty clear that Baon is addressing Galladon when he says "Temoo". Him addressing Demoux would be a bit of a non-sequitur since he and Galladon are in the middle of an argument. Also Temoo does fit the feel of a Dula name.
  10. Hey I just edited the thread title. Please try to avoid spoilers when naming threads as although this is in a spoiler forum the name still shows up in the "Recent Threads" on the right hand side of the forum index.
  11. Huh, he's changed his mind on that then because I remember at one point the plan was for Liar/Lightweaver to be pre-Shattering and then the rest of the Dragonsteel sequence being several hundred years later post-Shattering. Anyway would you mind posting about this in the event thread for whatever event it was at? Thank you. There is no place to discuss unpublished books at this time. I believe there are plans in the works for forums about White Sand and Aether of Night but there are no plans for Dragonsteel (as the first two are somewhat publicly available, the latter is much more restricted).
  12. Actually he doesn't even take a salary for it anymore, I think. He donates it back to the BYU sci-fi/fantasy magazine. One of the main reasons he still does it is for the socialization.
  13. Hey, welcome to the forums! I'm sorry that aspects of the book are making you feel uncomfortable, I don't think it was Brandon's intention to make anyone feel that way but he often does try to address issues from our world in his works and that can hit close to home. There are definitely problems with the power structure in place, but Brandon and the book are not trying to condone it. Instead it is an examination of said problematic power structure, in a more objective light (in a way that is more difficult to do when discussing real-life stuff). Topics like how it arose and the problems inherent in it are things that are starting to be addressed and will only be expanded upon in future books. Also I don't know if this will help but canonically the Alethi are people of color (both lighteyed and dark). Brandon actually modeled them on people of mixed Hawaiian and Asian decent (as everybody on Roshar except the Shin have epicanthic folds) though since Rosharan races don't exactly match up to Earth ethnicities different people could think they were of a different ethnicity (for example Brandon has confirmed that Alethi could look East Indian as well).
  14. Generally when authors/publishers say a release will be around "Christmastime" they mean November, as actually releasing anything in December isn't great for sales.
  15. That is no longer the plan.
  16. Except according to Brandon Sazed "didn't like the sound of sazedium so it's harmonium instead".
  17. Wax and Wayne is Era 2, Brandon changed the nomenclature from "three trilogies" to "four Eras". The old "second trilogy" is now Era 3.
  18. On Dalinar's age here, he does mention that he bonded Oathbringer when he was "twenty Weepings old". So since he is using a mundane blade here he must be younger than that.
  19. People have asked Brandon about whether he will make some, but he's said that it would would be a lot more expensive to do than t-shirts are. Also if he does do them he wants to make them reverseable so that one way it's a dog and you can turn it inside out so that it looks like a mistwraith, and then there need to be spikes to go with it.
  20. To be honest I'd rather stick with the names of the god metals being derived from the Shardholder's name rather than the name of the Intent (Harmony just had to go and ruin things though). So bavadium or bavadinium.
  21. Most of that (excepting gold and duralumin) does come from the HoA Ars Arcanum. As for the canonicity of the MAG, it's a little complicated. In general worldbuilding information is considered "canon until Brandon contradicts it". As for information about the mechanics of the Metallic Arts, the broad strokes of it are canon (as in what does each metal do/store/steal), when it starts going into the nitty-gritty of how they actually work is when it breaks from book-canon (as balancing powers for a game is different from balancing them for a book). So an example of this is how in Feruchemy nicrosil stores "Investiture", the MAG has rules in place for how that works, but Brandon has consistently RAFO'd how it works in-book. So the short of it is, yes we can consider those descriptions canon.
  22. Do you actually have confirmation that she had 2 spikes? The only time I'm aware of Brandon being asked he declined to answer until after the tour was over.
  23. The AMA actually ended back in early September. I think the OP's best bet would be to email Brandon through his website and explain what he wants it for. They send out some of the concept art for cosplayers so it's possible that he would be okay with it.
  24. On the topic of Ruin vs Decay. Ruin, as an intent, includes change and destruction, "decay" is part of that. Interestingly enough "Decay" was actually the name of the Shard that eventually became Ruin. In the unpublished Aether of Night (which Brandon sends out to people who request it via email) "Decay" is featured, but the book didn't really work so Brandon cannibalized things from it, one of them being Decay which got reworked into Ruin for Mistborn.
