Yeah Brandon meant Spiritual there, not Cognitive:

Leather-bound Edition of Elantris

We've actually known the release date for quite a while. -
Shadows of Self New BYU Line Rules
WeiryWriter replied to firstRainbowRose's topic in Events and Signings
This thread is in reference to the BYU Bookstore's new policy that Brandon posted about here. -
Shadows of Self is only three weeks a way! Following on from last week Tor.com has posted Chapter 4. Check it out here. This one picks up right after Chapter 3 leaves off (at an incredibly intense moment). I do have to admit that it was very exciting to finally find out what happened next. In other news Wellers Book Works has posted the pre-order announcement for Signed and Numbered editions of Shadows of Self. This is a great opportunity for fans who won't be able to see him on tour (see here for the full list of events) to get a signed copy. If you want it personalized act quickly as the deadline for personalizations is tomorrow. Check out our forum topic here to discuss the chapter preview!

Chapter 4 is up! (stupid school making me wait like three hours before I can read this...)

That's roughly where the scholars in-world have placed it: Though I will note that "The Valley" is not the name of that mountain range, as that note is referring to the valley where the Nightwatcher resides.

World misconceptions that are difficult to shift.
WeiryWriter replied to ljósmóður's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Shin have "normal" sized eyes, they are not larger than the Caucasian average. They are only described as large in reference to eyes with epicanthic folds. Brandon's model for the Alethi are people of mixed Asian/Hawaiian descent, but has said that some people might think they look Arab or Indian. -
Can I read Emperor's Soul before Elantris
WeiryWriter replied to Herald's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Yeah it's totally safe to read TES before Elantris. There are a couple of easter eggs, but they're really very minor on the grand scale of things. -
A Mythical Sword named Gretgor
WeiryWriter replied to tobar14's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Actually if you click on the citation on the Gretgor page you get brought to the glossary page. That is a mirror of the glossary on Brandon's site, which there is a link to at the top of the page. -
Lerasium and Atium Theory (potential Mistborn spoilers)
WeiryWriter replied to Shardlet's topic in Mistborn
Actually no you actually are burning it: (source) -
I believe the current estimate is Christmastime 2016.

I got the impression that the "leaving the honorblades in a circle" was more a symbolic gesture? As in it was just giving up the blades and turning away from their duties that the Heralds thought would break the Oathpact (which they weren't entirely correct about) but they could have just chucked all of the blades into a chasm as opposed to leaving them in a fancy circle and achieved the same thing.

Yeah Brandon has talked about that a couple times. Basically if you buy a hardcover from your local brick-and-mortar store during the first week (or I guess pre-order, I'm pretty sure those get lumped in with first week sales) then the store is more likely to treat it well going forward, i.e. putting it in the prime real estate at the front of the store to show it off. I don't think first week sales count any more than later weeks, but they do determine where the book premieres on the best-seller lists, which is fairly significant.
-
Yeah I guess reddit archives(i.e. removing the reply box) threads after 6 months? At least that is the explanation I'm finding.
-
It really depends on the bookstore and where it is. In the US you can usually just show up, sometimes you need to buy the book in question from the store. In the UK though events tend to be more ticketed. Looking at the Forbidden Planet event page though I'm not really seeing anything about the protocol for that store. My recommendation would be to contact the store directly just to make sure what, if anything, you'd need to do.

As of last week Peter currently believes that a release of early next year is more likely. The thing is Brandon wants the whole process to be fairly far along before anything is released (which he talks about here)
-
Isaac is also the Art Director for Dragonsteel Entertainment (which is Brandon's company). He kind of coordinates everything art-related for Brandon, so most of the time Ben is working with him, with Brandon being consulted for early mock-ups/final proofs.

Shadows of Self is officially less than a month away! (Check our post here to see Brandon's tour schedule.) With the hype starting to tick up Tor.com has posted Chapter 3 (following their release of the prologue and Chapters 1 and 2 a couple months ago). Check the preview out here! (Do note that a version of this was posted as part of 2013's Steelhunt, but this does cover the last of the Steelhunt excerpt. So if anymore previews are posted it will be entirely new material.) In other news Ben McSweeney, cosmere artist extraordinaire, will be doing an AMA over on reddit at /r/fantasy on October 6 (i.e. the release day for Shadows of Self). Ben is the artist responsible for Shallan's Sketchbook pages in The Stormlight Archive, the broadsheets in The Alloy of Law (and Shadows of Self), artwork for Crafty Games' Mistborn Adventure Game, as well as being the illustrator for The Rithmatist. Check out our forum topics here to discuss the chapter preview, or here to discuss Ben's AMA!

That isn't quite the same, the portraits of Shallan/Kaladin that were done by Michael Whelan were commissioned by Tor, as such Brandon had relatively little real control over them. They are by no means canonical. (Yes technically Ben helped Whelan with the Shallan piece but that was mostly as an adviser/assistant, ultimate control still lay with Whelan).
-
Team Sanderson commissioned sketches of all the main characters when they were first pitching the series to Tor (the most notable being the sketch Ben did of Szeth which turned out so well it became his chapter icon). Whether the rest will ever get released is really up to Brandon though.
-
Correct he does the artwork for Shallan's sketchbook pages, there's zero reason to think he won't be coming back. He also does a lot of the artwork for the MAG, he worked on the broadsheets for Mistborn Era 2, and is the illustrator for The Rithmatist.

Tor.com just posted Chapter 3 of Shadows of Self. (This brings us to the end of preview section we got from the Steelhunt a few years ago, so anything after this should be brand new).
-
Hey I just wanted to let everybody know that on October 6 (the release date of Shadows of Self) Ben McSweeney, i.e. Inkthinker, i.e. actual real-life Shallan, is going to be doing an AMA for /r/fantasy.
-
Yeah fanfic is fairly uncommon here on the forums (which is understandable since we tend to be more on the curative side of fandom whereas fanfic is more a transformative thing, which is why you find it more on tumblr). As The MalhamBrid said, Archive of Our Own is probably a good place to look. I'd also recommend adonalsium.tumblr.com's Fanfic tag, as Feather is pretty good at collecting everything posted on tumblr (though that link is all Brandon-related fanfic, not just Stormlight stuff).

Actually that's not quite what Brandon said, the original WoB that implied this was paraphrased, but we do have a verbatim follow-up question:
