The thing you have to remember is that the magic systems are not actively created by the Shards, they arise naturally from the interactions between the Shards and the planet they are Invested in. Maybe if he was somehow able to unInvest all of Ruin's Investiture from Scadrial (which would just cause problems) Hemalurgy /might/ cease to exist, but I don't even know if that's possible. Likewise Shards do not have unilateral control over how the systems work. They do have some wiggle room for messing with things, such as Leras swapping atium/malatium in for cadmium/bendalloy or Sazed lowering the threshold necesary for Snapping, but they cannot do what you suggest.

Well supposedly Jak writes them himself, Handerwym then writes footnotes making fun of Jak. The question is though, whether Jak is actually real or if there's just some random person making all this stuff up.

The Splintercast Reads Shadows of Self, Episode 2: Chapters 4-6
WeiryWriter commented on Chaos's article in Shardcast
"A steel compounder would be cool" - hehe... "Have we had any good female villians" - hehehehe... Zane was indeed the first one we saw use the "coin in the mouth" trick Dawnshot is a title that is mentioned in Alloy. Also puns are a tried and true part of being a Sanderfan, Brandon even hangs a lantern on it in that chasm scene in WoR. Catacendre is a term that was first used (in the books) in Shadows. "I'd like the lady villain to not be an ex-lover of the protagonist" -- at this point I started to think "You're in luck!" And then I remembered Idashwy isn't the villain... I like longer things and more comments. Boxing was indeed the slang term for them, officially they were "Imperials". You're reaction to Idashwy's death (and the sudden switch to Marasi = Priceless "...I want to watch you flounder..." -- ...Welp the Fandom Monster definitely ain't losing her touch... I can't wait for the next episode!- 5 comments

On the topic of the arrival of the Everstorm we do have an exact date, Ishishach 1173. (Dates for most of the events of WoR have actually been worked out.) The death rattle mentioned was off by about 4 months (200 days).
-
Thank you for this, I am/was on my phone so couldn't link it in my previous post.
-
I believe they are referring to an unpublished version of the ending that can be found on Brandon's site (originally the Well was going to be up in Terris, but Brandon moved it to Luthadel during revisions). Hoid visiting the Well and taking a bead of lerasium is still canon though, it's been referenced in WoBs.
-
Elendel is not located in the same place as Luthadel (you can actually estimate it's position in what was the Final Empire by comparing the Elendel Basin map to that of the Empire. The peninsula to the west that Bilming rests on can be found just about the "NA" in Southern Dominance). It is also unlikely that the actual Well is under Elendel as: (source)

No, the MNP is in the North.
-
No? Our magnetic north pole is in the northern hemisphere, I see no reason why Scadrial would be any different (especially as Brandon specifically explained the situation).
-
It's actually the ferromagnetic ash that was cooling things down enough for people in the Final Empire to survive. Because of that it was actually colder in the Final Empire than it was at the Geographic North Pole, despite being more southerly. Here is Brandon in the HoA Chapter 76 annotation:
-
It's entirely possible that the Heralds technically attracted Radiant-bonding spren, but those varieties of spren are sapient and can choose who to bond. The Heralds already had the honorblades so it makes total sense that spren didn't try to bond with them.
-
Luthadel is at the Magnetic North Pole. Brandon mentions in the Annotations that when Rashek moved the Well, the MNP moved with it, as a result compasses all pointed towards Luthadel (which the Ministry used as further "proof" of his divinity). Geographically however Luthadel rests at a more temperate latitude (as evidenced by the lack of a wonky day/night cycle).

Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
WeiryWriter replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So I would like to apologize for being so absent for the last few cycles. Work started up again and I've had various projects that I've needed to make progress on so I just haven't had the time/mental fortitude to give this game the attention it deserves. And unfortunately I don't see that changing soon, so I'm just going to officially say that I'm inactive and if you feel like you need to kill me I won't hold it against you. Go Villagers! -
I would think that the Shard of FMA:B is "Truth".
-
Yeah, I just removed that line from the article because it misrepresents the WoB, which I have the transcription of (the reason you can't find it is because it has not been posted yet). Here it is though: Going off of other questions like this Brandon has been asked, they are technically connected because they are both cosmere.

That particular exchange happened at the release party for The Alloy of Law and the fact that people used to camp out in front of the bookstore to get low-numbered editions. Brandon is merely referencing the fact that this guy Mark starting camping out two hours before some people from the 17th Shard (I'm guessing Rubix/firstRainbowRose) and so got #1.

I also watched it, and I actually quite enjoyed it. I also started reading the Shannara series in elementary school and it's partially responsible for getting me into fantasy so I'm hardly an unbiased viewer, Elfstones has a huge amount of nostalgic value. Now to be honest I don't think the series is as bad as most people say it is, but it's by no means ground-breaking in the genre, it's just a good old-fashioned fantasy. That said in the first two episodes alone it's clear that this is definitely an adaptation, they've changed a number of things (such as them really bringing the post-apocalyptic thing to the forefront, it's not nearly as prominent in the books), enough that while I know the broad strokes of what's going to happen I'm curious how the changes are going to propagate. The visuals are also stunning. In the end though, I really hope this does well as it can help open the door for other series getting adapted.

The Splintercast Reads Shadows of Self, Episode 1: Prologue, and Chapters 1-3
WeiryWriter commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
Yay! Splintercast is back! I missed listening to these. A couple notes (I don't know if you actually looked this stuff up after or not but you know me...): Marsh did not write the book Wax is reading. I do not believe Brandon has explicitly confirmed who did, but I think we're pretty sure it was Spook... Good going Spook. Stuff is either all the way in, or all the way out of a time bubble. If a person intersects with the boundary at all they are automatically "inside". (At least I'm pretty sure that's the way it works. Kurkistan would know for sure though). Also, Steris is seriously the best.- 26 comments

Bands Of Mourning - meaning of the title.
WeiryWriter replied to Oversleep's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The title is a reference to the Lord Ruler's metalmind bracers, which are referred to as "the Bands of Mourning" in the post-Catacendric world. Here is the cover blurb for the book: -
It's not weird at all, paperback editions generally don't come out until a year or so after the hardcover release. The earliest you'll see a paperback edition with that cover then is September of this year.
-
I also don't know where it is off the top of my head, but the WoB was more to the effect of "You can do it, but the Aon will only work once".
-
Yeah, it was revealed at the Shadows release party:
-
So it seems that Taln is a Surgebinder... Hm. I would actually disagree with the person who annotated that quote. It looks much more likely that the individual was asking for the order the flashback sequences would be in (i.e. Lift being 6, Jasnah being 8, et cetera) rather than the Orders of those viewpoints. That's the question that Brandon is answering at least. Therefore I would not say that it is certain that "Taln" is necessarily a Surgebinder.
-
Eh, in-world it would be EE-LAYN-tris. Brandon says EE-LAWN-tris, but he fully admits he says things differently than they would in-world. But I'm in the ed-glee camp myself.
