So does this mean that Elantrians (before Raoden finished the chasm line) are like mistwraiths? https://www.reddit.c...l?context=10000 Quote

Help me Personalize my Leatherbound Elantris
tobar14 replied to Argent's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Here are some good ones I found: "Pain Loses power when other things become more important" “Joy was more than just an absence of discomfort.” "remove our comforts, and we become animals.” “Those who can least afford extravagance seem to be the ones most determined to spend what they have left.” “All things must progress, and progression is not always a steady incline.” "it takes a fine sense of pessimism to brood with any sort of respectability.” -

I think this a vote between all season neck-ware. If this were a winter accessory debate, scarfs would obvi be the winner.

Ties: common / easy to look cool in / least cool Bowties: less common / less easy to look cool in / medium cool Cravats: rare / hard to look cool in / dope It's harder to look cool in a cravat, but if you can pull it off, do it. I prefer to not think too much about what I wear, so that's where ties come in necky

Pewter enhances the auxiliary components of the body (physical components) for example: pewter enhances your physical components of your eyes, it gets them to the best eyesight a human can have, the ideal human. Same for the inner ear (balance) Tin enhances the Brain for example: tin enhances the brains ability to process the information, and what it can do with it. Its like seeing in 1080p vs 480 (1080p has more data coming in per second, and the brain has to have the ability to process it) That's how I think of it.

theory-questions Mechanisms governing Surgebinding
tobar14 replied to Oversleep's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm fairly certain that an object can only be invested in by one person at a time (I'm basing this off of my memory of Warbreaker)(oh and my memory from Mistborn is telling me that it is very difficult to use allomancy on invested objects). Also, nothing actually happens at the same time, someone will always infuse the object first, by nanoseconds. So whoever infuses it first. -
*Shadows of Self Spoilers* Anyone Else Think Harmony is Messed up?
tobar14 replied to mattig89ch's topic in Mistborn
Plus harmony is all about balance. In order for him to too good, some bad stuff has to happen...sort of. He is holding Ruin & Preservation, so its hard for him to do anything that involves only one of the shards, the other shard will want to have some influence. -
Like, if my body had an extremely small amount of friction, I would slide everywhere, and it would take me a long time to stop moving on my own. If I wanted to increase my friction, I would add an adhesive to the situation, which would greatly increase my friction force, bringing me to a stop.
-
yes, they certainly do. Friction is a force Adhesives are substances that rely on friction to bind objects together
-
You have 2 surfaces Surface 1: has dips and valleys (isn't flat) Surface 2: has dips and valleys (isn't flat) Friction: The force that is created when Surface 1 dip runs into surface 2 valley, and/or when surface 2 valley runs into surface 1 dip. People with the abrasion surge can manipulate their surface to be completely smooth, so it just rolls over the other surface. Probably using stormlight or spren. Adhesion: the action or process of adhering to a surface (which is typically accomplished by an adhesive agent) . Typically a liquid like substance that fills in the nooks and crannies of both surfaces, then hardens, forming a bond between the 2 surfaces caused by friction. People with the adhesion surge use stormlight or spren (nobody is really sure) to act as an adhesive agent to fill in the nooks and crannies, thus increasing friction, and making it stick together. Basically, if the Abrasion surge can go both ways, that makes the Adhesion surge pointless. Friction is what makes adhesion possible. If there was no friction, adhesives wouldn't work.
-
That's not exactly how friction works. Think of Velcro, that's the best way to explain it. What happens when Velcro is sticking together is what happens to surfaces on a very small scale. Basically, if you increase the friction of an object (which can be done by making your surface more jagged thus allowing for the other surface to get caught, or making the other surface more jagged so that your surface gets caught in it, or both.) you can stick it to a wall upside down and it won't fall. Think of hammering a nail into the ceiling, it doesn't fall down because the friction caused by the interaction of the surfaces holds it in place.
-
I don't think that the abrasion surge can increase friction, otherwise it would have been called out on the coppermind. Then it would be called adhesion. Abrasion makes less friction Adhesion makes more friction

You could read the Wax and Wayne mistborn novels, Sixth of Dusk, and Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell. I am into patrick rothfuss right now, the Dune series, the golden compass, always The Wheel of Time.

I believe that a basic lashing directly upwards would make you weightless, because there is still the regular gravity pulling you towards the planet. In order to fly upwards at 9.8 m/s squared, you would have to put a double lashing towards the sky. No upper limit, just uses stormlight faster. Although I am unsure if there is anything like diminishing returns involved.

When I ordered my signed copy of SoS, I asked the question "Does the pushing and/or pulling of metals have anything to do with the Electromagnetic Force?" Brandon's answer: No (not really...but kinda)

He is writing about a controversial topic that people are passionate about (I'm assuming Sanderson is passionate about it too). When an author makes you feel something, they are doing their job right. There a soooo many stories/books/movies about a people being oppressed, and overcoming it...and I don't think they are mocking it. The book also deals with sexism, prejudice against religions, restriction of knowledge, espionage, murder, slavery.... I mean, we could just read a book where everyone is happy and there is nothing wrong, but that would be pretty boring.
