  1. Time and space are certainly not rigid. They are both affected by gravity and velocity, as well as who is viewing (the relative aspect). Time passes more quickly (or slowly depending on who is the observer (thats the whole relative thing)) if you are near something that is super massive (say a black hole) compared to a person standing on earth. One way to travel forward in time is to take a space ship, oribit a black hole for awhile, and come back to earth. Everyone on earth will have experienced more time relative to you. So if you had a twin who had stayed on earth while you were orbiting the black hole, your twin would be older than you.
  2. I just thought of something. Maybe it has been said before, but here ya go. What if Dalinar asked the nightwatcher to bring his dead wife back to life. The boon was that she was brought back to life, but he can't remember anything about her so he can't find her.
  3. ...I know you know that the "one sword" isn't necessarily a shardblade. It's just based on them, right? EDIT: or is it based on the honorblades?
  4. Must be another illustrator interpretation
  5. I was traveling back to MN from WI, and i stopped at a gas station and noticed they were selling audiobooks/graphic audio thingys. Just for fun I searched to see if they had any Sanderson novels, and they did! On the front of The Way of Kings graphic audio, it depicted Szeth unsheathing his honorblade. That made me think, do Honorblades have sheaths? Shardblades certainly don't.
  6. Hey all, Not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere. I tried searching for it, but I couldn't find any related topics, and also I didn't search too hard because I am busy at work. I am only posting this because it has been burning in my mind since I read it last night. During my 4th re-read of The Way of Kings, when Hoid is telling Kaladin the story "Wandersail", Kaladin notices that Hoid is carrying a sword with a black sheath...Also, Hoid had been noticeably absent from his duties as the King's Wit, and he mentioned something about searching for someone (i think he said an old acquaintance). Am I crazy, or is Hoid in possession of a certain sword at this point?
  7. That has to do with Vin's size and how pewter works. Pewter gives you X level of strength, regardless of your size/weight. Since Vin is much smaller than Ham, she can jump higher (less weight, same strength). Also, don't quote me on that, there are more knowledgeable people on here that could answer this better.
  8. I don't see any attached image
  9. This makes me think. Is there a finite amount of "luck" on Scadrial. Basically, if you are storing luck, making yourself unlucky, do unlucky things have to happen in order for you to store it? or can you store luck without having anything bad happen? Then there is the opposite, can you tap luck and nothing lucky will happen.
  10. Are you describing the difference between luck affecting yourself, and luck affecting others...Internal vs External?
  11. It all depends on how long the series is. If its a trilogy, book 2 better be pretty beefy. If it is 14 books long then I would expect it to be pretty slow, kinda like how a TV show's first episode is a full story all on its own with a buildup and a climax to get you hooked, and the second episode is kinda where the real story starts. Maybe TV shows aren't the greatest example. 1 Full story 2 Build up 3 Build up 4 Build up/Small Climax 5 Build up 6 Build up 7 Build up/Small Climax 8 Build up 9 Build up 10 Build up/Small Climax 11 Build up 12 Climax 13 Climax 14 Climax I bet you can guess what series I am referencing
  12. Dang! I forgot that Wax and Wayne are after SA5. Well that settles that haha. I just really really think that Ruin Cultivation and Preservation belong together.
  13. 2. Yeah, there would have to be a very good reason for Sazed to leave Scadrial. My only theory was that his inability to take action due to his opposing shardic intents might drive him towards it. Or maybe he defeats trell/whoever, and then he gets more aware of the greater cosmere and discovers what is going on in Roshar and tries to help. 3. I'm wondering how the Dor will come into play. Will someone reform the shards and pick them up, or will someone figure out how to use that power without reforming it (if that is the case, I bet it would be another shard)
  14. Clarification: I was considering Wax/Wayne as Era 2. Era 3 is the 1980's tech one, Era 4 is the future space arc.
  15. The other night I got into a philosophical debate with my fiancé regarding the definition of opposites. In summation we were debating the following topic: Ruin and preservation being opposites. I made up these terms so my fiancé could understand what I was talking about (she has only read Sixth of Dusk). Shard Description of Action Higher Level Description Ruin Entropy, intelligent decay, take away Change Preservation To preserve, keep things the same No Change Cultivation To grow, intelligent growth, to add Change If you focus on the “Description of Action”, then you can see that Ruin and Cultivation are opposites (from one perspective). Or you could call them compatible, but those could also mean the same thing; opposites attract y'know. If you focus on the “Higher Level Description”, you can see that Preservation is opposite of both Ruin & Cultivation. Regardless, that is not what this theory is about. The non-sober debate that I had sparked an idea regarding: the three shards, Harmony’s role in the Cosmere, and where this Mistborn/Stormlight Archive plotline is heading. I’m not going to get into the nitty-gritty details of how this is all going to play out, I’m merely commenting on the larger moves. Here we go… Something is going to happen in the final installment of the Mistborn Era 2 or 3 events that causes Sazed/Harmony to head for Roshar. (Not sure how the timelines match up so not sure if it will be after Mistborn Era 2 or 3 or somewhere in between) · Maybe Sazed can’t beat whatever enemy is attacking Scadrial and so searches how to resolve his problem with acting (finding cultivation to balance him out) · Maybe he beat the enemy attacking Scadrial, learns some info from the enemy and its possible relations to Roshar/Odium, travels to Roshar and discovers the existence of Cultivation In any case, in this theory Harmony will end up on Roshar and play a role in the climax of the first half of the Stormlight Archive. I have a feeling that Harmony will interact with Cultivation, maybe fall in love with Cultivation, then Cultivation dies and Harmony picks up a third shard (Sad stuff often happens to Sazed). Or maybe Harmony shows up just when Odium kills Cultivation’s vessel, and conveniently picks it up (sound familiar?) Oh and probably some of the characters we like will die sadly but also badassly in this climaz. Anyways, Harmony will pick up Cultivation and become…Ouroboros? Balance? Nature…idk. So this new shard will trounce Odium, but Odium is actually a coward and leaves Roshar to go into hiding, greatly diminished (like Sauron or Voldemort). Boom, end of book 5. Then maybe the second half of the Cosmere will be Odium slowly regaining power, maybe he realized he needs to pick up some more shards to challenge the New Harmony Shard so he searches for some of the more sinister ones. Maybe the New Harmony shard will figure out how get the Dor on his side and it will be like Harmony + 6 shards vs Bodium (Badass Odium) + 7 shards…or something like that I have no evidence, didn’t do much research, I just thought it was a cool/possible idea. TLDR; Harmony goes to Roshar, picks up Cultivation, beats up Odium, Odium flees
  16. touche, that was the WoB that I was thinking about. I guess I made an assumption, but I can see how there is some wiggle room with the verbage. I believe there are discussions on this topic in another thread. As I am typing this out, I can now see both sides of the argument. Ruin = decay, destruction, taking away Preservation = everything stays the same, nothing changes Cultivation = growth, adding stuff... You could say that Ruin and Cultivation are opposites, because they are on opposite sides of the spectrum that I just layed out. However, you could also say: Ruin = Change (negative) Preservation = No change Cultivation = Change (positive) So in that scenario, Ruin and Preservation would be opposite: Change vs No change. But that would mean that Cultivation and Preservation are opposites as well
  17. Why do people keep saying the Ruin and Preservation are perfect opposites. We have WoB's saying that they are not. Ruin and Cultivation are "perfect" opposites. Preservation is the middle ground between the two. Sorry for derailing the topic of the post, I just keep seeing this pop up.
  18. ahh, I understand now. So you want to know if we can determine a level of difficulty for each of those. so, on a scale of 1 to difficult: A= spike inside the body = 5 difficulty B= spike outside the body = 3 difficulty C= normal metal inside the body = 1 difficulty (I made those numbers up, just trying to see if I am following you).
  19. So basically Invested object (hemalurgic spike ) touching the connection to the spirit realm (blood) which is where the soul resides equals hard to push/pull blood = physical object that acts as connection between physical and spirit realm so, heamlurgic spike + blood = connection to the soul, therefore hard to push/pull which means, myself touching my own blood doesn't mean anything because I am not an invested object?
  20. This doesn't make sense to me. If proximity to a soul makes it hard to be affected by "magic", then wouldn't a person in general be extremely hard to affect....Since they are as close as possible to their own soul? Pretty sure I am touching my own blood at all times.
  21. I thought it was great. People told me that they spent too much time on character development, but those were some of my favorite parts. I feel that this move was a lot more "comic book" like, whereas the Christopher Batman/Joker was a portrayal of the characters in "our" world. As soon as I realized this, it was easier for me to "buy in" to the comic book style characters. Plus Margot Robbie
  22. connection
  23. Yeah, but those are the properties of the metal, its not magical.
