  1. Can't pull up my book, but I remember in WoR they mention that aluminum can only come from soulcasting. To me, this was an interesting statement as for the most part, we've seen that aluminum is more of a block on magic than a result. Are there any ramifications to this? I haven't been able to come up with any.
  2. I agree, there was probably just some inherent investiture on the planet prior to the arrival of shards. Both the Listeners and Amian's seem to have more connections to the Cognitive realm than humans, which I find interesting.
  3. Maybe Dawnshards are the heavily invested Spren that the Listeners bonded with to become Dawnsingers. Dawn as in beginning, and shard representing investiture, so shards of the investiture that seeded Roshar.
  4. My thoughts is that Parshendi were native to Roshar, prior to humans coming from The Tranquiline Halls, or wherever this breed of human came from. Prior to humanity showing up, the Listeners were able to merge with the Spren that were present on the planet. When humans came and developed the Nahel bond after the spren saw that the Honor Blades were able to do, spren stopped bonding with Listeners. Enter Odium and Voidspren, giving them back what they were missing. I think my thoughts and Yata's are probably pretty much the same.
  5. So, was just browsing around the forums and saw that Renarin is somewhere on the Autism spectrum. That reminded me that Kaladin thought there was something odd about Renarin's "illness". Has this topic been discussed at all? Is it because of his spren, or is there something else we haven't come across yet?
  6. Having just read the sections where Kal was fighting Szeth, there was a passage where he was fightning. I'm sure it's been stated before, but this really suggests it's the "similar" spren that make up plate.
  7. And damnation if this wasn't more enjoyable the second time around. So much more nuance than the first time. I have nothing more to add than “Oh, storms yes! Everybody, give the Lopen your spheres! I have glowing that needs to be done.”
  8. So, I'm rereading Way of Kings for the first time and having all the knowledge from the second book available makes things so much more clear. However, I just read the passage where Dalinar flashes back to the day of Recreance where the KR drop their blades and plate. I couldn't find an answer anywhere by looking here, but how does dropping their blades and plate kill the spren? It doesn't read like they did anything special other than stabbing their blades into the earth and taking off their plate. Was it the rejection of the bond that killed them, established by the screaming that Dalinar could almost hear?
  9. I also haven't read this in a long time, but what happens once you reach a certain heightening and then reduce your total breaths? Do you immediately lower your perfect color recogntion, ability to do instinctive awakening, etc? Or do you still have it, because if you still have those abilities to a certain extent, it suggests that "savantism" is occuring while holding the large number of breaths. Just as in any other investiture.
  10. Opposite shadows make me think of a particular race on Roshar.
  11. Yeah, that was a great moment of comeuppance. Edit: sorry for double.
  12. I'm doing some catchup on forums and I wondered what youd think about Fires of Heaven. I was not disappointed.
  13. I took the water fear to be just that, a normal fear that Calamity tried to punch of to neuroses level... but since David beat Calamity, he didn't have to worry about it.
  14. I love that one of my original comments about Steelheart being a stand-in for Supes really turned out to be in the right vein. I also loved the part about discussing Prof's weaknesses... I think BS must have put a few of those examplese in the book specifically for sharders here.
  15. Am I the only one that reads these books and either willfully, or subconsciously, doesn't try to figure out the mysteries? I was pleasantly surprised by the Governor reveal.
  16. I was thinking it would be the gold metal minds he imbedded in himself... but spiking is different...
  17. And that mumbo jumbo is why we all keep coming back!
  18. Also don't forget the super secret organization where they get their info and tech. We've been introduced to highly intelligent people and organizations for a reason.
  19. Isn't just as simple as Steelheart is a kind of anti-superman, and superman was called the Man of Steel. Steelheart wasn't Steel, but could make just about anything the material.
  20. Finished last night, awesome! I tend to read books without thinking of bigger pictures, but I am proud to say about a chapter into the book I had figured out the Spren were shardblades. I don't know if that was a theory I had read here before, but yay. I just thought that they would go inanimate instead of retaining their forms. Also, holy crap nightblood!!!
  21. Yeah, read this and got very excited. Not knowing how the Epics were created, and even though it isn't Cosmere, Brandon can craft some great magic / powers, there has to be something in how Epics started existing. Maybe the touch of another Epic makes him vulnerable to normal weapons. Or, maybe, all of Steelheart's power was going to saving him from Deathtouch (was that the name) which temporarily rendered the invulnerability gone.
  22. Nothing says that an age has to end in fire & brimstone. I can't recall if this is absolutely correct, but from the 1st age to the Age of Legends (2nd age) I think it was a peaceful transition. Probably became the Age of Legends when they figured out how to channel.
  23. I think I have seen Boxed sets already, but I can't remember how many books 3,4 or 5. They were for mass market paperbacks.
  24. Also, Hoid may not simply be aging, he may be moving forward in time as he hops between worlds.
