  1. I'm sure that his time sitting there, with his soup and contemplation, led to his decision, but let's not discount that he's got some serious anger with Roshone for more than one reason. I take him at his word, Kal isn't a dissembler.
  2. You are just thinking of the 'Voice of God," Morgan Freeman.
  3. I'm out of ideas, It's late and I've got several hours of work still tonight. Oh, I bet we could come up with some good ones, I'm sure he stubbed his toe and thought that when Tien stubbed his toe, he just laughed it off instead of brooding, so Kal would brood some more thinking about Tien not brooding.
  4. Yeah, but he knew that the rain would keep coming, so there was no point in trying to be happy for the sunny days to come... Nah, just bustin' your chops.
  5. Taught from a young age, due to Vorinism, that Knights Radiant and surgebinding were evil?
  6. Actually, that's pretty sound logic. He probably didn't know what Syl was / how she worked, so someone who was as beaten down as him, who has had everything else taken away from him, would think that anything good he possessed would be taken away.
  7. Ups for this, I totally agree.
  8. Mad props for building your own analysis tool! By all means, i thought you were doing some sort of manual count, which would suck, so keep reporting it. However, I doubt that we'll ever find another most common word. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_common_words_in_English
  9. Continuing the trend of more bite sized chapters, but the voice was good. Also, has there ever been a chapter where the most common word wasn't "the"? Might not be necessary to show.
  10. I also subscribe to this belief, but I wonder if drinking made him numb to the Thrill.
  11. Oh yeah, we know what they are called, duh. However, I think it's more than writing, which is just a mechanical movement...could be writing or the recording of knowledge and pursuit of knowledge.
  12. Given the relationship between their two orders, sharing a surge, I think their spren would be related. I'm thinking something along the idea of a truthspren. I can't remember if we've seen a lesser truthspren, so it could be something else. Jasnah is a scholar, looking for truths and facts.
  13. It's normal during the Weeping, since that is just normal rain. From what I've seen others discussing, we are probably a week or so away from a normal highstorm. Though, with the Stormfather kicking off a bonus storm at the end of WoR, who knows? That implies that Hearthstone had one. I'm going to guess not since it's not a really important location.
  14. I'm going with the mundane explanation here. If all he is doing is walking and sleeping, that gives him 16 hours a day to walk 30 miles, so rounding gives him 2 miles an hour. That's not fast walking. He's been in shape as his last oath healed him of all his wounds and probably restored him to his peak strength. He's a soldier and was drilling, so I expect he is probably a bit tired, but also motivated to get home.
  15. Did he do something that I'm not remembering about proof?
  16. If Kal fights them, it won't be a fight. They've alluded to it during his walk into the residence that he just brushes the guards aside without even thinking about it. He'll just push them all aside and when they won't give up, whip out Syl and say "I've tried being nice, now will you all please just STOP!" He's always been a great fighter, and being a KR makes him even better, even without stormlight.
  17. I doubt they would have provided something, same reason as noted above, a flying, glowing, shardblade wielding person doesn't need much. Say what? I don't think that was the case, and a quick browse of the Coppermind doesn't suggest that at all. https://coppermind.net/wiki/Words_of_Radiance_(in-world)
  18. Yeah, I don't really believe what I wrote, but worth a discussion since apparently she isn't defending herself!
  19. Youth, Soldier, Slave, Radiant? I just had the thought that if the wife was a hostage, that he had to make the choice to end fighting which resulted in her death... or something worse, he struck through her to enemy killing her in the process. Or maybe the "if you kill me, the hostage dies" scenario where he had to kill the villain and she died a horrible death.
  20. Perhaps the 'Veil' persona is starting to influence her 'Shallan' persona, letting her know that shutting up is sometimes useful? And yes, I know she doesn't have disassociative disorder.
  21. Syl appearing was exactly what my next sentence said.
  22. Nah, it's a standard phrase, means weak. What about starspren? That one caught my eye earlier. I agree with this as well... it felt better. Part of it could be we were so used to reading Kaladin PoV that having him back made sense. Also, it could be that the exposition is starting to taper a bit and we get more into the "voice" of the characters.
  23. Ooh, this is a fun one! What a way to snap out of it, This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules you, Roshone! I took notes this time and it was interesting, pretty big info dump confirming things. Official word of Spren and sub-spren... I think the theory of Shardplate being 'lesser spren' is now more likely. And again the reference to Bridge Four close to becoming Radiants, this is either a very un-subtle, or a big misdirect. Speaking of Shardplate, nice dowry we have there for Dalinar. I appreciate that Dalinar is acknowledging he has grabbed / usurped power and he doesn't feel to bad about it. I am curious about his use of the phrase 'fortress' in how he is building up Urithiru; this could be either as a capital or more precisely as a place from which to direct a battle. I loved the visualization of the Everstorm below Urithiru. And Kadash, you big tease you, what do you know? Confirmation of the boon / curse from Dalinar, that's cool. I love the Chapter 5 header... is that the epigraph? I haven't paid as much attention to the as I have in the past. Looking into Shadesmar and beyond.. Baby born with no face, gah! That is not a pleasant image, thanks Brandon. And that was a hell of a reunion, Kaladin was true to form with his doubt and depression, but he is starting to kick back out of it sooner. I was curious how long he was going to just sit their like a bump on a log. And I am very curious how he is going to explain himself, because to the populace he is just a slave branded dark-eyes that knocked out their Lighteyes lord. There isn't much, if any, Stormlight around so he can't get all glowy and show off yet. I guess Syl could make an appearance. Now onto reading everyone else's thoughts.
  24. Maybe the end of the heralds time in purgatory is marked by their "death", which would allow a death rattle to come from them specifically.
  25. Yes, I'm familiar with that theory, but didn't know you were referring only to dead shardblades only. Living Skybreaker blades will still likely be an alloy, per your argument, when manifesting in the Physical realm.
