Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I probably should have made myself more clear with some OOG text, yeah. I do think it was a waste, but that's because I'm convinced she's not even Spiked, and we've now had the discussion run away from us without a lot of variety for another day, largely to me because people weren't actually thinking things through. Most of the arguments I saw were illogical, like what I pointed out in Nyali's, and I definitely think we should have lynched Nyali instead. Now, I think she's likely a good target for the next lynch, since I don't think that simply surviving a lynch makes Rae guiltier, and I think a lot of people are focusing on the wrong things.- 1403 replies

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
My kids are getting over the flu, my wife and I might be getting it, and the power just went out while there's a tornado watch going on. Edit: The power is back and the storm has died down, so that part is good for now. -
Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart actually laughed at Ryth's silly idea. "I could prove I'm just a Thug without pewter left in me, but all that would do is get me dead. It's not something I can repeat, exactly. I'll swear by The Lord Ruler that I'm no Mistborn, though." He took a gulp of ale and stomped his peg. "Told ya'll not to waste your time chasing down Nicki, too. Even if she's one of them spiked, she knew you were coming for her and told you she'd escape. Now you all just look like fools, standing there with your jaws gaping. Me, I'm just gonna take another slice of ham and go to bed. Ain't nothing better to do here."- 1403 replies

Quick Fix Game 21: The Name's Smith, John Smith
Jondesu replied to AliasSheep's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry, decided I just can't keep up with QFs, and not with another game going especially. -
Just started Brent Weeks' "Night Angel" series, enjoying it so far. He seems to be a good writer, so as long as the plot continues to hold up, it'll be a great read. Still haven't finished Order 66, and it needs to go back to the library. Either I'll blitz through it (I read fast), or I'll just pick it up again another time.

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart was passed out on the floor of the pub, his metal leg at a slightly awkward angle. He hadn't been attacked, though. Not exactly. He'd merely underestimated the barkeep's ale, and his ability to keep a clear head. That wasn't usually an issue, but with no pewter to burn, it had caught him off guard. Guess he'd have to leave the fate of the town up to others for the night. In other words, I'm not swapping my vote, since it's closer now and I'm not sure how much good it would do, but I would encourage anyone who hasn't voted to do so, and those who have voted, consider the arguments both ways and at least be as confident as you can be in your choice.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Let's make sure we don't waste another lynch needlessly. If Rae is telling the truth about being a Thug, this will basically be a waste. If the Elims have vote manip abilities and sway the vote off of her onto Nyali, and they're both villagers, it'll be a waste (though I think that's unlikely). Let's make sure we make this lynch count. IMO, the best way is to get a solid vote on Nyali, since I believe Rae, but if the gap is still as close as it is now before turnover, I may switch my vote to minimize the risk of vote manipulation, especially since Rae may survive anyway (unless someone also decides to coinshot her).- 1403 replies

What happened to the metals when Harmony came into power?
Jondesu replied to OblivionRapture's topic in Mistborn
There are actually two types of mist in Era 2, the original one and Ruin's mist, which @The One Who Connects mentioned. It is part of the Physical presence/aspect of those Shards, but that still exists with Sazed as the new Vessel. Eventually, they might merge into Harmony mist, but for now they both still exist. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Oh my. My dad broke our back porch door once (full glass sliding door) trying to drill a hole for the pin to lock it closed (just clipped the edge of the glass inside the frame, I guess), and I remember that sound. Definitely awful. Was it at least tempered glass, or were these sharp shards of glass? -
how was aimia invaded in the first place?
Jondesu replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
Scouring did bring to mind fire in my mind, perhaps some type of explosive or napalm equivalent (we haven't seen anything like that in use, but then it wouldn't have been practical on the Shattered Plains and would have been horrible and unnecessary in the border skirmishes Kaladin fought in, so it may simply not have come up). That would be effective enough at killing Aimians of both types most likely, and would also have killed the Larkins on Aimia. I do think there's a significant connection between the Larkins and the Aimians, but I'm not sure how. -
[Theory]Reason why Odium can Splinter other Shards
Jondesu replied to Temerius's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think there must be another form of Connection at work when it comes to ascending. I mean, Lerasium works by rewriting your spiritweb to create a (stronger?) connection to Preservation, which is why it makes you a Mistborn. Therefore, Mistborn are definitely Connected to Preservation, but everything in-text says that Kelsier was too Connected to Ruin, and I get the impression it's not because of his time in the well as much as his time spent killing and destroying (in the name of a greater good, some of it, but certainly Ruinous and not Preserving).- 25 replies

I love that! I guess I still have a bit of a hangover, then. I forget all the time that they're actually dead (and confirmed to have gone Beyond, and therefore aren't coming back), and then I remember that and it hits again. I do think Wax and Wayne have powerful stories too, and the parts we've seen go way beyond the seeming stereotypes people are saying they feel they're seeing, but the conflict is simply nowhere close to the same level, understandably. It's a very different type of story and struggle.
-
It is, but the alloys primary effect seems to be creating mistings. It's possible "alloying" it with another god metal (if possible) could have other effects, though that remains to be seen, and pure Lerasium can rewrite your spiritweb to do more than make you a Mistborn apparently, though we don't know how that's done, but the "default" effect is to rewrite your Connection to Preservation, making it stronger, and making you a Mistborn in the process. As for stacking and becoming stronger, I'm not sure. Brandon's given hints that I think could go either way. I think it increases your Connection, but whether that actually increases your Allomantic strength, or if there's an upper boundary there and instead something else would happen (we know you would ascend if you could somehow burn enough), we don't know.

@maxal, my impression is that he's upping the stakes when we find an enemy that will be able to defeat Radiants, perhaps even easily. There's a reason they didn't just easily win the Desolations, and instead saw large portions of the population destroyed. Since they're very tough to kill, imagine an enemy that can sweep through lines of Knights Radiant.
-
Wow, evil yet again, but also basically mythological (probably do really exist in some form, but all we know of them is myths that likely aren't really accurate).
-
From what we've been told, it's either confirmed or almost confirmed that Lerasium alloys, when burned Allomantically, make you a Misting of the metal it's alloyed with. We're not sure about Hemalurgic or Feruchemical uses, though, I don't believe.

It seemed to be implied that they married young and have remained devoted to each other, and don't seem to have a child. I don't know that it's ever expressly stated, though. I think I've said it in other threads, but I would be very surprised if Ialai is allowed to take up the position in his place. A widow of someone important is basically just someone to be pitied, as we see with Navani, not someone who would take the place of their husband. We don't see a single woman in a position of importance (not an official one, that is) anywhere in Alethkar. Elhokar's wife (the queen, I forget her name right now) is the closest, and even then she's obviously just a regent, but one without any real oversight since Elhokar isn't a very good king. If Sadeas has any cousins, nephews, etc, those would probably be in line for the position, but if not, it could easily go to someone like Amaram.

I think the next Windrunner will only be from Bridge 4 if Brandon wants to show us something about how squires work and potentially developing them into Knights (which is possible). Otherwise, it may be someone unrelated, or perhaps someone Kaladin will find in Hearthstone or somewhere else along his way and help them along the way.
-
Actually, I felt that it was more of a way of setting the stakes and challenges. If you know your enemies can survive or be brought back from even something like that, then it makes everything more desperate for the heroes. Jasnah's was about setting up how hard it would be to kill a Radiant, as well as sending Shallan out on her own, but Szeth's was about making killing their enemies seem even harder to achieve (while also offering Szeth a potential redemption arc, though I'm not a big fan of that idea).
-
I feel like there's more to it, though. A Returned's Divine Breath may not have equal Investiture to 5,000 regular Breaths (though it could), but it has the same qualities. I think it's entirely possible that while the Royal Family's Breath isn't a lot high quality in terms of level, it could Endow them with other benefits like more instinctive Awakening (which most of them would never have tried, but we see with Vivenna) and better color recognition (also tough to see in Idris, but Siri may be showing there).

I think he was saying he didn't know how Rsyn and the traders would have gotten advanced tech (i.e. the spaceship and other machines), but it would be cool if it was them.
-
I suspect it's higher quality, which means she has better color recognition, but not perfect. It's a sliding scale according to Brandon, so as you gain more Breaths, you get closer to each of those qualities, with the perfection of them being achieved at the Heightenings. As for her aura, though, do we know at what point the aura is noticeable? I suspect it'd be well before the Third Heightening, probably by the First or Second even for someone with only their innate Breath, which does make this less likely. Also, Siri was looking for it at that point, thinking that the Pahn Kahl were on her side. That may account for her quick recognition of the difference.

Why does Elhokar's eye change colors multiple times?
Jondesu replied to Paladin Brewer's topic in Stormlight Archive
There's definitely something off about Roshar's genetics, though, so I wouldn't assume that particular trait is passed down the same way. It seems somewhat likely, but it's very possible their eyes are a different (light) color. -
His Shardblade couldn't have unbonded and appeared next to him unless he died, and I find it very unlikely that Nale was there to resurrect him. I guess we don't technically have official confirmation, but I can't see any reason to resurrect him. There's plenty more bad guys.

He can just compound Wakefulness, can't he?
