Question for some of the analytical players: how do you keep track of everything? I tried making a doc for myself (a spreadsheet in the last one, with color coding and everything), but keeping it updated is more work than it's worth. Is there an easier way? I just have a very hard time remembering things like who voted for whom, and what arguments/claims people make.

The gemhearts of skyeels could be just too tiny to be worthwhile, but I agree it would likely be known. I suspect the reason Greatshells have them and other species do not isn't just because of a spren bond, but because they need to hold Stormlight in them (perhaps sitting out and pupating during a highstorm even charges it the first time) because they grow so much larger than even the gravity of the planet should be allowing. It provides them extra strength/durability so they can even exist in sizes like they do, with the fast movement they're capable of. It's like an innate Nahel bond, with some of the same benefits.

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart took a break from walking to rest his aching legs (well, one and a half, since his peg couldn't ache), and pondered what he'd learned. The koloss threat, if it was real, was suddenly seeming less of a danger in the immediate than the other occupants of this little town. It wasn't a cozy vacation for him at all, now, but a fight for his life. So be it. The first thing he'd learned after he set out was that Kip lay dead in his bed, though of course Remart wasn't morbid enough to want to go take a look. Dagger through the heart, they said, though he'd looked dashing apart from the massive blood stain. Technically that meant he was now "pierced by metal", which was what the messenger had said. Remart figured the dead weren't a danger, though, so he figured it must have been a warning about those that would do that. Chewing on a bit of jerky, he thought over the other attack he'd learned about. Reginald had been telling everyone about being attacked by an Allomancer, but then another one saving him. Remart didn't know a lot about Allomancy, but he knew about Coinshots and Lurchers, which is what Reginald's tale sounded like. He was inclined to believe him, especially after his conclusions from the night before, but he knew better than to really trust him. After he'd learned that, he'd walked around town, listening and asking a few questions as he went. The only curiosity to him, however, was from that Terrisman steward, Herwynbe. He'd been very proper and polite, of course, but Remart felt he was hiding something. He'd been prodding along the discussion and anger of the town subtly, and Remart was pretty sure he had been trying to get Reginald strung up, although he'd been far from the only voice. His was the quiet one that pushed it over the edge from one crazy person having suspicions to a full-blown lynch mob trying to get him. They'd even been calling for him to be slaughtered in the night by a vigilante, which Remart figured was exactly what someone tried to do. The Terrisman was involved, Remart was sure. Now, for some more ale, and maybe a few veggies to offset all the meat he'd been eating. And some more meat, too.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart snored softly in the bed he'd finally broken down and rented from the innkeeper, Grumbles (what an appropriate nickname the man had). He'd paid for room service too, so he woke as a tray of pastries was carried into his room. Stuffing one down his throat, he thought through what he'd learned so far. One: a metal peg leg might be dangerous with Coinshots and Lurchers making trouble. Two: someone was seriously trying to screw with their heads. Reginald Canuck, that thieving schemer (or so he'd heard, he hadn't yet taken anything of Remart's, which was probably for the best after all), had been saved by some people making last minute decisions, some of them bafflingly, but for some reason, Remart's gut (in addition to grumbling about needing another pastry) was telling him the man was probably not a danger. Perhaps, but it seemed almost…too obvious. Remart headed out into the town to find some more ale, and to see what he could learn. He figured he'd steer clear of the crazy cat lady, though. No need to deal with drunken cats today. Obviously, I'm starting my RP not knowing that Reginald was attacked or that Kip is dead.- 1403 replies

It's basically confirmed (it was stated outright in the first published version of WoR) that Nale used a Fabrial, probably one harnessing the Surge of Regrowth, to bring Szeth back. Not a new magic system. As for your spoiler tag:
-
That's been my assumption too, with some additional variance based on the actual Intent. Autonomy wouldn't warp the Vessel as much, while Odium could if the original Vessel wasn't hateful, but if Rayse was a nasty hateful person before, it could just nestle right in alongside his existing personality without affecting him much (just amplifying it).
-
Nice, well done Sharders, even after Odium's lucky guess on me! That was very impressive.

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Guess I should say something probably. That Ecth lynch caught me off guard when I checked back in, since not only did I not realize he was accumulating votes, but that it was close enough. I had confided in a few people that I was suspicious of Dalinar, but as others have pointed out, the timeline here doesn't make much sense, as he could have escaped without drawing attention to himself. Could have just been a goof, I've done that, but my gut is telling me he's likely clean. If a coinshot gets him, we'll definitely learn from it, but I don't know that I'd really push for him to be lynched tomorrow if not. We'll see what happens after this night cycle. Also, I'm gonna miss having PMs, even though I hadn't done much with them yet.- 1403 replies

Yeah, that's definitely a good fit too. I'm just not sure in Odium's case how much is due to the Shard vs the Vessel. Hoid seems to think it's Rayse, not specifically Odium, responsible for that particular course of action, and Brandon has hinted that too.
-
Awesome discussion, @Pagerunner, I like those thoughts. I think Jealousy might actually be a good fit for Ambition: the desire to be and be seen as the best (and unlike for humans, it's a good thing for God, since he really is the best ever). It's not a perfect fit, so I'm still mulling it over. Not sure about Ruin either, but it's possible he drew that one more from one of the Eastern religions with a sort of yin-yang pull.

We know Bavadin has most recently been referred to as female (though an early WoB used "he"), but not that she's a woman. Could be a female dragon or another species.

He's 41. The joke is that he says he was born 40 years old, so that would make him the equivalent of 81 if so.

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart snorted. "If I was trying to seed chaos and tear this town apart, I sure wouldn't be upfront about it yet. I would keep my head down, not make too much of a fuss, try to just go on about my day. Calling out someone here as being one of these 'spiked'? That'd be the last thing I'd want to be the first to do." He scratched his head at that last sentence, then shrugged it off as the effects of the ale he had just finished. "By my metal leg, I have half a mind to just go haul up anyone who hasn't said a word and toss them out of this place. El, maybe you were onto something after all. "What is this whole Abundance Organization thing I've been hearing about anyways? A bunch of strangers setting up in town just before something like this happens, but then we don't hear much from them once the ash hits the fan? Where's one of their members to see if I'm making this all up?" (@Wonko the Sane)- 1403 replies

I started looking around at things that different religions (primarily monotheistic ones) have consider to be divine attributes, as a way of possibly guessing some of the other Shards we haven't seen yet, but instead, I found a different take on the idea of Autonomy that I think makes sense to me. Here's a quote from one of the sources I found: The implication there is a God that is completely self-contained when it comes to making decisions; totally autonomous. I believe that the Autonomy of Adolnasium was split off from the whole, much like his Hate, Honor, etc, and that is the Shard now held by Bavadin. In light of that, she has very few restrictions on what she can do: she literally holds the Shard that's only Intent is to keep her from being affected by other people. That could come with a downside of not being able to change her perspective and understand others the same way, making her a meddling influence, but one that is not empathetic to those she is meddling with. I think that could fit well with her (Arcanum Unbounded spoilers): It doesn't explain why she might have worked with Odium, but I think we don't know for sure that they were actually coordinating, or if they simply ended up working at complementary purposes. Alternatively, Brandon could be drawing on a less severe form of Autonomy: That would also fit well with Autonomy as the Shard we know, but with less of a drawback in that area. She'd still be able to take into account other's desires, suffering, etc, but could also choose to not be affected by them. That seems to me like Autonomy or Impassibility only in the context of a whole, however, and that removed from the other Divine Attributes, it would be much more controlling of it's Vessel. EDIT: A similar concept, drawn from Wikipedia:

Hmm, El, I think I did read something into your message you weren't saying. It doesn't really clear you in my mind, but it does make me less suspicious. However, I don't have any particularly stronger suspicions either, and I've confided the ones I do have in a few people. I won't retract my vote yet, but if I get any better reads on anyone, I may move my vote before the cycle ends.- 1403 replies

My reasoning is similar. Anyone who starts ruling people out on such minimal information makes me suspicious. Joe is on my list for similar reasons, but El started that approach and has kept the discussion in that direction.- 1403 replies

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Had the Botox shots I've been dreading on Monday morning, and the actual process was a good bit less painful than I feared (though by no means comfortable). However, I have spent the entire time since then sore and in more pain than before. I stayed on the couch once I got out of bed both yesterday and today, almost entirely. Getting up to use the bathroom or get myself food or water is far more difficult and taxing than it has any right to be. I hope this ebbs back to my normal level of suckitude soon. -
Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wow, tons of discussion, awesome to see. I'm gonna try to RP most of this response. Remart continued to munch of the food on his platter as he lazed around in the morning, having slept with his head resting on a particularly soft loaf of bread (though it wasn't as good now, so he'd tossed it outside for the animals). Whistler had headed off to check on his shop, and a few others had done similar things, but Remart had no such responsibilities. He had a fair bit of coin saved up from a few good…investments a few years back, so he'd simply been traveling around since then, sampling local cuisines and ales (mostly ales), and just enjoying the sights. Sure, his missing leg slowed him a bit, but he was able to make many trips by carriage or barge, so it wasn't a bad way to travel. When the report came back that Whistler's shop had been burned to the ground, by a group of "spiked" as they were being called, he came a bit more awake and began to study the reactions of the crowd. Some began to mutter about Whistler himself burning down his shop to throw the town into chaos, but Remart doubted that story. Sure, he'd heard of people doing crazy things like that, but that didn't strike him as likely right now. Nicki had begun offering some quiet suggestions at the Allomancers among them (who were wisely keeping their heads down and not identifying themselves yet), and immediately became a target for the town's outrage herself. Sheesh, she's just trying to help! Who cares about a slip of the tongue and a few words that came out wrong. She hadn't been saying anything she didn't truly think was helpful. Now El…El was beginning to try to claim innocence for herself and others by claiming they wouldn't have attacked Whistler. It was a long list, in fact, nearly a third of the town. It was based on some nonsense about Whistler not wanting to die (wasn't that true of everyone?) and those people having known her longer. Remart doubted it, plus he knew that he would have been tempted to do exactly that if he'd been aiming to sow chaos in the town. Perhaps the spiked had even saved Whistler themselves, just so there was a witness and fear could grow. In fact, El sounded more and more suspicious the more he listened to her. He didn't truly trust anyone, sure, but he also wasn't about to let someone divide the town unnecessarily. Just to add, I would consider myself one of those relatively new players who wouldn't realize that Wilson died so often and would instead simply know she could be a threat as a good player, and might have considered targeting her. If there were any of those players that did understand on the Elim team, however, I can see them swaying the group to go for someone else. I could also very easily see them attacking and also saving Wilson just to make themselves less suspicious, however, even if Wilson was completely unaware of that plan. I wouldn't rule anyone out as an Elim based on that, but if it wasn't the Elims themselves saving her to cover themselves, then that person was probably one of those older players.- 1403 replies

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart bent down and scratched his peg leg absently, then covered for the mistake of forgetting the limb was gone by checking the straps that held it in place. It wouldn't come loose easily, but he needed to remove it for cleaning underneath the stub occasionally. He couldn't imagine anyone trying to steal something as worthless to anyone else, but he couldn't exactly afford to lose it either. He tipped to his ale and found it was empty, so he headed off to see what else he could find. He'd followed the group up to this mansion, though he hadn't caught the name of the lord who owned it. Wasn't really important as long as they had food, and he wanted to keep an eye on the others in town. Aha, there was the Terrisman servant! Rust, he'd headed off with another Terrisman. They'd left trays of food out for the guests, so Remart simply carried a platter back to a comfy chair and began munching.- 1403 replies

I like the idea of the inactivity filter just being death for a member of the team that doesn't vote. There shouldn't be any difference between 1 No or 2-3 for a single mission, which is part of what adds a bit of nice complexity to the game without needing a bunch of roles. I think you'll be good to go with that one minor change.

Anniversary Game 3: The Curse of the Koloss
Jondesu replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Remart hadn't run out to see the commotion, but he had clunked out of the pub still drinking his ale and chewing on a spicy sausage (often at the same time). He'd gotten close enough to hear the man's final words, though. Koloss? Coming to this place? He was beginning to wish he'd never come to this town. Oh well, though, he couldn't outrun any koloss, no one really could, and he had his missing leg slowing him down. He'd just have to outsmart them. That shouldn't be too hard, right? Of course, he didn't exactly trust any of his companions in this odd town. He'd have to see if any of them could be useful, though. And apparently watch out for piercings? He wasn't sure what that was about. ---- Edit: I didn't see any PM restrictions. Can we all create PMs as desired, and are group PMs okay, to echo Silverblade?- 1403 replies
