Who will win the contest? Predicting the back half.
apepi replied to Could Be Fire's topic in Stormlight Archive
I mean, the deal is supposed to stop the war I thought? -
I don't remember there being spren in Scadrial? Was something in the secret history that I missed?

Who will win the contest? Predicting the back half.

My current thought is if it ends in a draw, nothing of the current changes. Odium is stuck and the war still goes on. -
Who will win the contest? Predicting the back half.
apepi replied to Could Be Fire's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think no matter what, some time during either this next book or the other back half, Odium is going to to be able to leave the system. Because narratively we have to see that happen I think, no matter who wins or loses. -
My small theory on this, is what ever is binding Odium, is also binding Cultivation. Which is why spren can not leave the Rosharan system. And maybe Cultivation wants out of this deal, to be able to go to more systems. Her lover died, she was fine with staying only on the planet while he was alive, but with him dead she is grieving. She also has been on this planet for a long time, and feels that she has cultivated it enough, there are other gardens she can grow elsewhere. This is why she wants out, this is why she put Taravangian in place of Rayse, she didn't think he could win. And if he didn't win then she can't get out because she is also defined by the same thing that keeps him there. I don't think she is evil, she is just in a bad position and wants out of it.

[Theory] Taln Wasn't the Herald Who Broke; It Was Chanarach
apepi replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This might fit well, especially the "and with it gain us further breath to draw." part makes a lot of sense. As the oathpact was allowing them to live keeping Odium locked up, but if she died, then the pact would fall and the 'breath' would be gone. (it makes a lot more sense than the Dalinar vs baby idea, lol) -
I somewhat think Dustbringer's fourth might be something like "I accept I can not always be perfect" or something of that ilk, or that they need to know when to accept help. Willshaper's fourth might be like "I accept that I can not always be free from my duties." or something like that.

[Theory] Taln Wasn't the Herald Who Broke; It Was Chanarach
apepi replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I like this theory. I always thought something was off, Taln was a good one(he kind of reminds me of Kaladin). -
It seems more to that to me. Odium purposely trapped them in the cognitive realm. I haven't even heard that Honor was in anywhere 'trapped' the same way, on the cognitive realm.

I mean, we dont know anything about anti-intents or anything, if that is a thing. We know to humans, the void tone sounded the same to humans, while to Fused it sounded different. My main reasoning talking about the intent to shards is to simply saying they should be more easily to be able to be manipulated when splintered.
-
He didn't think it would harm, but that doesn't mean that is what allowed him to do it.
-
My thought of why Todium could inflict harm on Hoid: Hoid no longer fits the contract he and the other shards/Dawnshards agreed to, because he no longer has a Dawnshard. He maybe was keeping it a secret so none of the shards thought that they could harm him. But Todium being Todium decided to test that a little, and he could mess with Hoid, but thinks he got away with it because he thought he was clever, while really Hoid is no longer protected.
-
My theory is splintering a shard destroys it's Intent(and separates the powers), which is why "Honor still exist in the hearts of men."(paraphrasing) and people saying Honor is dead is such a big thing. At that point they are much easier to manipulate to another Intent I think?
-
I wonder, anti-light would just blow the opposing one up... But like, if you took anti-voidlight and corrupted say Honor with it, could you have an Anti-shard?
-
Odd thought...do we know if Scadrian magic is stronger with the two shards combining? Is Allomancy and Feruchemy stronger? Or is that not how it works because those powers are somewhat a part of the individual shards?(well, with Feruchemy being both) Does that mean if there is not stronger magic, is there more quantity of it then?

Your post reminded of something that I remember from the cosmere reddit thread: Here it talks about the Dor(DnD) and how they are under pressure. With Odium being the one who put and splintered them and'trapped them in the cognitive realm, then he must have been the one who put them under pressure as well. So this might give your theory more credit. That gemstone pressure tidbit is a good catch, I did not know that happened. I have been thinking about this page for a while sense it was introduced to me, were the two shards in a gemstone? Or would them just being on the cognitive realm make them be pressured somehow? But with your tidbit here, either Odium maybe could have used his surge in conjunction with a gemstone to hold them in place where they are?

I am not saying the Skybreakers played an important part in binding her, but hiding her, putting her in the location that she is at now.
-
It was most likely the skybreakers who hid her.

Does anyone still want a Moash redemption arc?
apepi replied to Elsecaller_17.5's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't want a redemption ark, but I also don't want him to just die. I want him to suffer, take in all the deeds that he has done and feel the pain. Death is too kind. Then have him disappear off the edge of map the map, with no one knowing where he is. And at the end of the stormlight books we will barely here mention of a blind man, someone will ask Brandon "Is that Moash?" And he will just rafo it like a mad lad. -
theory Ishar's Lab - Siah Aimians Were Honorspren [Discuss]
apepi replied to Child of Hodor's topic in Stormlight Archive
You could ask if humans and spren could produce an offspring, make ti more a Syl Kaladin thing. >.< As those aimians did have some relations with humans? -
I disgree that Bondsmioth were in charge? Atleast during the Herald days, it seems to me like Jerizen was in charge, and the orders modeled their thing after the heralds, so it seems to me that the Windrunners should have more of a leadership role. And even if that was the case, it doesn't mean that it should be the case now. Who cares what happened 1000s of years ago? Just because it happened in the past, doesn't mean that it should happen now in the story. They are refounding it in their own way, things are different now. Dalinar is just assuming that he is leading them now, I haven't heard of any actual talk between the Knight's Radiant orders. Why haven't we gotten that? That would be interesting to see. Seeing the Knight Radiant's politics and having a meating deciding what they should do, instead we just have them at the beck and call of all the leaders of the government. I want one of the orders to say no to them, they can't do X because of their oaths. I would like the orders to argue amongst themselves what they can and can not do. We very slightly got that with the Dustbringers, but not really very apparent and upfront in the story.
-
Well, there seems to have some consequences to it. Like how Shallan can't really surgebind(normally?), while the other lightweavers can.
-
Okay, here are the the two things that bother me most about the book: Dalinar being able to relieve Kaladin does not make any sense to me. Like, why does he think he had the power? He might be the king of Urithiru(oh god, that part about what he is was a fn mess), I don't think he has earned the title to be the leader of all the Knights Radiant. Like if Kaladin would have told Dalinar to stuff it, what would Dalinar do? The Windrunners are the biggest Knight Radiant order, and the would follow Kaladin. I liked the fact that in the earlier books that the Knights Radiant had a wierd structure in terms with the Alethi 'government', and they were oddly placed in the society. But if Dalinar can just relieve Kaladin, it just throws that all off. I would love it if an order(or Kaladin) just told Dalinar to suck it, and him not being able to do anything about it. Dalinar is getting a big head, and it would be better for him if it was deflated. Navani bonding the Sibling and her ark. I think the book would have been much better if she to terms of her not being able to be a scientist, and that being okay. Some things people are not good at, and that is okay, but she could have progressed other people to be able to get discoveries, which wouldn't have happened without you, is okay. That sometimes you don't need to be the hero, you don't need to be the person with all the glory, but you can push those along who do. I feel like this mark was missed badly here. And that would set her up to bonding with the Nightwatcher(or hell, Cultivation). Because not being the hero, but helping others grow to become one, is such a Cultivation thing to do. It would have been so great for this to happen, and I am sad that it did not. While I understand why these two things happened narratively, I didn't like them and felt they weren't needed.

Have we heard anything about heralds having shardplate or anything like that? I know shardblades were kind of copied off of honorblades..was shardplate copied off of anything? Do we think it was just an invention that spren thought of?
-
I mean, if humans have thought that Herdaz couldn't be saved, it could be assumed that spren, also thought that it couldn't be saved. But..do why know why it is strategically important for Odium to get Herdaz while not for coalition? It seems odd, that they would give something so easily and Odium to want it so much even having lost a great number of people to get it? It doesn't make sense to me.
