Did The Lord Rulers religion have a name?
The One Who Connects replied to Overlord Jebus's topic in Mistborn
As Yata said, TLR went and crushed all/almost all of the other religions, so that his was the only one. Ask a society which war they are in, they just call it "the war." Same principle likely applies here. If needed, we could call it the "Religion of the Lord Ruler," but it probably won't be necessary unless Brandon decides to worldbuild a short story or 2 into the middle centuries of the Final Empire.- 3 replies

On mobile so can't really find sources, but I remember seeing that Shallan had advanced enough to summon the blade, but she pushed him away and let the bond weaken after the "incident." I also recall reading somewhere that the specific Ideal for blade summoning could vary between Order's, but it didn't have anything more specific to it.

CR could be broken on Yolen, but perhaps the "plan" Frost hints at was told to him by Adonalsium's Cognitive Shadow? I don't know if Hoid could've been made aware of that plan or if he has his own plan (I wouldn't put it past Hoid to do that), but it could answer some questions.

Its probably mentioned in the annotations (my mobile is bad at looking stuff up) but Marsh was there when Sazed made his assumptions on how the Lord Ruler did it, sp he had a head start.

Better type IV BioEntities
The One Who Connects replied to Djarskublar's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't technically disagree that you could give powers to a lifeless, but I don't think many of them would be able to use them. Here's the only real disagreement, but the Coppermind has no source for it. Having whatever passes for blood be flowing seems like a decent idea though. Does your electron example involve flowing electricity? -
IIRC = if i recall/remember correctly, XD = (no idea, something to do with humor), IRL = in real life, afaik = as far as i know Edit: As for the Oathpact, this is the most recent thing I can find (Q4) That was March 19 of 2014. WoR came out on March 4th, so I believe that this one means it is not yet broken after the events of WoR

The Genetics of Allomancy

The Metallic Arts are the magic system of Scadrial through Realmatic interactions that we do not yet understand enough to fully explain. Info 1 In essence, another Shard wouldn't be able to manifest a different magic system on an already invested world. They would be bound within the same limits that the original Shards on that world are -
Yea, we(some people) basically feel that metals like pewter/tin have much more pronounced effect because they affect physical things like your senses/pain sense, rather than push/pull and magic sense, because we don't naturally have that ability

I finally found it. (Phrases actually work on the search-bar here) There's a physical picture of the book inscription near the bottom of the page. Make of it what you will.. again.

Future sight (assuming it existed back then), the "greater good," paranoia about a "God" who could control them, to prove that they can/for the thrill of challenge, I can go on for a bit. Oh and my personal favorite excuse that people use: doing it with "the best intentions." None of these things that I mentioned would definitively make someone stop being a good person. In fact, I imagine that you probably know a good person in real life with at least one of these qualities. Note: none of these are canon reasons (afaik), they are just things I came up with that could be used.

I agree, but an interesting thought to consider about using those: Warbreaker Spoilers (somewhat)

There's also the fact that as far as we know, Ruin and Preservation are the only ones that properly "created" a world. Unless otherwise stated, the other worlds were created by Adonalsium, who was said to be literally the power of creation. Roshar specifically was created by him

You Know You've Read Elantris When...

I had a similar thing, but with the Era 1 Metallic Arts symbols -
Incoming Speculation: The Innate Investiture of living things protects the physical aspect, much the same way it prevents pulling on a spike. Investiture is basically stored in the Spiritual realm right? Once the spiritual is cut, perhaps the Innate Investiture goes to fill that gap. That Innate Investiture could be considered "the spark of humanity" in a way. Mistborn Spoilers Losing that Innate Investiture would probably be a fatal thing, so at that point they would be inanimate objects from a Realmatic perspective. Disclaimer: This turned into one of my 2 minute theories, so assumptions were made

Did Secret History actually lack a description? I could've sworn it had one, if a bit simplistic. I do not consider those two things to be mutually exclusive. Not in the sense that you imply. I consider "of Adonalsium" to refer to anything created by Adonalsium. That would include the Listeners and Adonalsium-Spren. The Radiant Bond brings the Spren more into the Physical Realm, is it not a possibility to imagine that the Listener Bond brings the Listeners closer to the Cognitive? Following Explanation/Assumptions: Creationspren embody the Cognitive Ideal of creativity, and the Listeners get Artform. Decayform - described as desctuctive, Cognitive Ideal of Decay? Perhaps Rotspren or Decayspren? Scholarform - Cognitive Ideal of Wisdom/Learning? Logicspren are rare enough to warrant Nimbleform.. Mateform - requires true empathy to bond. Passionspren exist, perhaps the Cognitive Ideal of Passion/Love Oh yay, Stormform actually is a bond with Stormspren. OK, speculation over. Basically, on the idea that they are pulled closer to the Cognitive(or because they are closer to the Cognitive than humans anyway), they better embody the ideal related to the spren they bond with. This gets around your idea that a "full spren" of Adonalsium would make them more humanlike. In a way it does, but more specific to a Cognitive Aspect of humanity. While we do not have a direct answer, the post where he confirmed the existence of Adonalsiumspren implies that they were intentional, but that's up to reader interpretation. Bit of emphasis added

How to Awaken with Stormlight
The One Who Connects replied to Seeker861's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Awakened objects will eventually consume the Breaths they were given. (Brandon has avoided our free energy ideas for too long ) IIRC, normal awakened objects would act like an old clock and "wind down" as time goes on. I cannot find the source of that quote at the moment though. I imagine that it would function similarly in Surgebinding, but that'd only be on something like Lashings and Lightweaving, I doubt the Dustbringer abilities operate on an "infusing stuff" principle. -
How to Awaken with Stormlight
The One Who Connects replied to Seeker861's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Other relevant WoB's to this conversation. Here, and Here He has stated that you can go from Breath to Surgebinding, and has said "wait and see" if you can go from Stormlight to Awakening -
Closer to 5000, not 4500
The One Who Connects replied to Kingsdaughter613's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't actually know for sure, but I vaguely remember something about 20 hour days at some point. 20 hrs * 500 days = 10,000 hours 10,000 / 24 = 416.66 days 416.66 / 365.24 (leap/etc) = 1.1408 Earth years. It still rounds to ~1.1, so perhaps it is correct? -
Fair enough. My rational thinking isn't gonna be superb so soon after waking up. I like the Essence idea, and its similarity to the Focus principle makes it more likely to be right. I still cannot figure a logical reason why Shadesmar would be spheres, but it is. Now that I think a bit more, R&P weren't too good of an comparison since Scadrial was created by them. Gives it the potential to be a bit different than the other Shardworlds (not much, but it is still possible)
-
Personally, I mean spren that are remnants of the power/essence he used to grow the continent of Roshar. If we assume that the Listeners are of Adonalsium, then that more or less means that he created Roshar's Cognitive Realm. Better wording is like.. he made it the way it was. R&P used mist, Scadrial's Cognitive is mist. Adonalsium used Spren, Cognitive is full of Spren It's a stretch, but it's a reasonable stretch

A Theory On Creating Shardplate
The One Who Connects replied to ScarletSabre's topic in Stormlight Archive
Don't have anything about plate, but I definitely remember him saying that the blades aren't locked if the Radiant gets killed. Come to think of it, they have to go back to cognitive. How else would Syl remember "helping people kill" way back when? Edit: I have found it! (While learning about awakening of all things..)- 36 replies

This, and... So that was all I could find on Theoryland with the tag "Breath" or "Divine Breath" While I cannot find it, I am very sure that Brandon has said that the Divine Breath is consumed by healing. Did some reading to try answering Djar's point. It turns out that you are correct here.
