One theory that I've seen floating around is that Shinovar was the site of the Circle of Blades in the Prologue. Saw the Honorblades, recognized the sheer power in them, built a temple and a city around it, etc... My Patented 2 Minute Speculation: Perhaps the early Shin thought the Heralds left their Blades between Desolations (not too sure how the old mythos went back when the Heralds walked the Earth) but if they believed that I can see their devotion to keeping them safe. Over the generations though, they may have grown more curious about the blades, especially given the whole "we won" shtick. They started training a few people with the powers, maybe after the Radiants disappeared.

If Roshar got the science and tech level of Wax's Era (understanding gravity and all that) I could see that becoming a thing

Wouldn't this fall under the same problems as having the spren be both the Bow and the Arrow at the same time? Otherwise, I cannot really argue the points that Harambe has already said. Credit to Rawrbert on this (previous topic in my unread content feed) I read it a few moments ago, and I love the idea.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
1) Rashek was Kwaan's nephew, so unless the shards can mate with humans to make "demi-gods"(half-shards?), then no. That said, Ruin and Preservation created life on Scadrial, so by technicality.... 2) I imagine that since your soul is stored in the object and not your body, your body might become a vegetable and/or die. That said, I cannot yet think of a way to store it in the first place, but I am no expert. 3) I believe Brandon has said that with the right knowledge you could steal "almost anything" so I would put the limit as equal to the total number of abilities. That said, we don't have any idea what that number is either. 4) I think the original body becomes irrelevant after the spike leaves it. -
It would be interesting if we got a companion guide after the series is over with some of the ideas he had for the powers that just didn't find a place in the story. (Such as the orbit idea, as I don't necessarily see a way to make it fit the story as of yet.) Or a legitimate [and complete] Ars Arcanum as the final volume of the Cosmere. Has Brandon ever said one way or the other about that before?

Lord Ruler, Lie Detector? (Mistborn Spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to twicetested's topic in Mistborn
Why not both? F-Tin boosted sight and hearing to notice those little details, a horde of liars to have those details(and the more obvious ones), and 1,000 years to hone it down to a science, etc.. [Have it and not need it] is always better Assuming he can F-Gold heal through the nausea from sight compounding, he could avoid the issues for hearing too, thus reducing outside distractions as well -
Additional (potential) backstory to why the "opposing force was the vessels" got popular: Brandon somewhat stated that there wasn't an "anti-Adonalsium" in the way we seemed to think about it. Source The emphasized text implies that Adonalsium did not (or at least currently does not) have an opposite of similar power. Harmony, being ~1/8th of Adonalsium, is arguably the most powerful being in the Cosmere. It is my belief that this concept started the theory of the "Opposition" being the vessels, as they are not stronger, but were still, in a sense, opposed.

Significance of the number 10
The One Who Connects replied to startreklord06's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think we'll see the oaths of all orders in the first five. Not directly, anyway. Not to mention that there are other powers out there: fabrials, Listener forms, the Old Magic... There's lots to discover even without the oaths. As Eki said, there are a fair number of other powers to learn about. As a side point to your statement Galendo, even if we see all 5 Oaths from Kal & Shallan in the front 5, there are still fancy things with the other Orders and their powers, so don't worry about running out of "power-ups" early on. (This doesn't even count one of my power combo theories that I need to refine before posting) -
The "Strictness" of Rosharan shards
The One Who Connects replied to CosmereQuestioner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Before this thread, I don't think "the community" really gave that line much cohesive thought, if I can be honest. The variance of responses here seem to support the prior sentence. Yet none of them really seem wrong.. I like this interpretation. It fits pretty well with how Hoid said it, which may be more important than specifically what he said. (Hoid does that quite a bit, it's unbearable ) I considered saying that I think "the champion" thing is separate from this, but upon reread I see what you actually said. 10 Heralds, 10 Orders, Specific Surges per Order, etc... Shardic strictness is made evident in all of the organization and regimenting of things. And hatred is a very easy and direct way to learn patience. Everything takes time on Roshar. -
(Spoilers for WoR & BoM) Questions about Lift
The One Who Connects replied to Steelheart's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I imagine it's from the chapter or from Brandon, but it is more that because she can just use food for it, she hasn't learned how to take it from gems. -
I'll still argue the nature of Brandon's "anyone can Awaken if they get the Breath" but that's mostly because of the odd context in which it was said. However, that does not specifically relate to this post, and I will not start a debate in another thread after how little got done last time.

Radiant Order Diagram Coincidence
The One Who Connects replied to Rich2244's topic in Stormlight Archive
Official. The chart itself is in the book (hardcover interior) The image with everything labeled is fan/community created, but accurate. I like the idea that the lines between Orders imply some form of interaction/connection between their members. So far, the only "connection" to the lines that we have found is Windrunner and Lightweaver being far opposites and their spren not always getting along, but the same has been said about Windrunner and Skybreaker. All in all, I like the theory and don't feel that I can properly comment without rereading the story again. -
Ruin (through Marsh) tells Yomen that Elend has 40,000 Koloss in HoA. Given that some died during the Siege of Luthadel in the previous book, 50K doesn't sound too far off. I think I mentioned this before, but that could easily have been in the Roshar vs Scadrial topic Inquisitor Axeheads were made of Obsidian, and they had fairly good cutting power IIRC. The Macuahuitl "blade" was made from rows of sharpened pieces of obsidian & flint, so the damage sustained by a swipe would be... bloody. I could see this being a Koloss killer if they can get close enough. Side note: Aztecs have bows, TFE has no bows, but have steel armor. How close to a proper parallel might Aztec vs TFE actually get..?

Last ideal of the Windrunners(Theory)
The One Who Connects replied to Konstantin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Kaladin will have little trouble, but I don't recall the Squires being bound by any similar Code of how they have to act. That could be a plot point in and of itself. Edit: On second thought, they probably had to pass some certain "ideal-checkpoints" to become a squire and be able to gain the power. opinions? -
Thats a very difficult point. He almost got away with it in Reckoners, but I can't think of any where he doesnt kill off at oeast 1 main char besides Infinity Blade, where he had little choice. what books of his has your friend read?

Any Astrophysicists or Biologists out there?
The One Who Connects replied to Tariniel's topic in Creator's Corner
Yay, I assumed right! Upvote for you. Random Facts about Cloud Cover: (source is.. interesting, feel free to fact check me) Water vapor in cool air is what creates clouds. (If you have some humidity, then the clouds could easily get thicker with the cold season) Air pollutants that reflect sunlight increase cloud cover. Pollutants that absorb sunlight stunt cloud formation (More for OP, but it's here for the purpose of discussion) Cloud Cover on Venus traps heat in the atmosphere, so super greenhouse effect occurs (Bit of danger if OP goes with the pollution idea) Daytime: more clouds = cooler temperature. Nighttime: more clouds = warmer temperature. (Double edged sword that one) Sidenote for Plantlife: high heat & low humidity dries out soil and makes it unhealthy (adapt for low nutrient intake, like cacti and water?) Heat from sunlight evaporates water vapor, which creates clouds. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would make sunny season rather cloudy and night season fairly cloudless right?- 25 replies

Any Astrophysicists or Biologists out there?
The One Who Connects replied to Tariniel's topic in Creator's Corner
We just needed a 4th science credit to graduate, so the last class was a take your pick. Meaning you might not even see it in HS. You want to do things that are recorded in extremes at the poles (highest latitude). I simply meant that if your "city" or whatever was located a bit further south (High Canada/Siberia..ish) that you might get the same effect, but less extreme than 6 months of sunlight. No pulling a Lord Ruler and moving the Poles, just settling the city further down. Edit: My English teacher would have words with me after reading that... North Pole = 6 Mo of Day/Night. It stands to reason that going further away might have a 3 Mo period with Day/Night. Although, considering that this phenomenon is fairly confined to the Poles, there would be a very narrow region with this effect unless you resort to a little handwavium- 25 replies

Nightblood and Flavour of Investiture [WoB from Reddit]
The One Who Connects replied to Yata's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He sees himself as guilty, but not necessarily evil. Everything he has done has been what he was ordered to do, and his honor prevented him from stopping the madness. Surely even you can rationalize a way for adhering to your oath to not make you evil.- 7 replies

Akinator straight gave up on Blushweaver. Got to the "are they on this list of names?" and it wasnt there, so it gave up and asked for the name. It knew the name of course. So I tried it again, and it took 76 questions to get Blushweaver that time, but it did get it. Trying Hrathen at the moment. 1st guess was Hoid, 2nd was Logain from WoT, 3rd was the List of names: including Clubs, Marsh and Lightsong of all people. it failed

High temperatures and sun not setting for half the year, low temperatures and sun not rising for half the year... That sounds like what happens to the seasons at the North/South pole, minus it actually being warm of course. Although, if you were at a lower latitude so that the 6 months of daylight got reduced to only a week, there is a possibility that it would be able to heat up.. The concept seems moderately sound in reality, but lacks the temperature extremes you want. Hang a plant upside down and it will still find a way to curve upwards towards sunlight. So life will definitely find a way, but it (animal life in particular) might be.. strange to say the least. Never managed to click send huh.. @Tsidqiyah is right about having to fiddle with moons and things to get the 1,2,1 pattern that you're after, but for the life of me I haven't a clue how. Edit: I should've put a similar thing at the start of my post. I'm no expert beyond 9th grade biology and 12th grade environmental science- 25 replies
