Were it not for the fact that touching hot metal is... bad, I would say that they could inlay brass plates in the uniform the way body armor has ceramic plates in it.

Since this is the Stormlight Archive forum, I don't think you have to spoiler WoK, but I agree with the sentiment. I (and others it appears) am having difficulties thinking of a way that Cohesion and/or Tension can't make normal armor/walls stronger in some form, so "Tank and Bulwark" have become a common Stoneward theme around here. I believe that "strength of squires" was Brandon's wording when talking about KR Resonances. He has also told us to watch the amount of squires, but I don't think it was in reference to the Resonance. Personally, I can put an idea that works with either interpretation of that. Leadership: So many Squires. Protection: Their Stormlight ability. Strength of Squires as Resonance: Leadership implies who gets the effect, Protection is more of the effect. Strength & Number as Resonance: Leadership is why the Squires get the effect, and why there is so rusting many of them. Protection is why they have some access to Stormlight (healing, agility, etc..) Take your pick, expand/nitpick/tell me to make a separate thread, etc..

Here is the thing with vorinism
The One Who Connects replied to Disorganizer's topic in Stormlight Archive
If the scribes are foolish enough to make their commentaries in the margins while writing it, even someone who cannot truly read should know the left-to-right format and call them out on that. (Simply watching a few scribes write a decree here and there should show them that text goes left to right) My second point is no longer relevant as counting letters is far more difficult in Alethi than in Matoran (the script behind this idea) due to Alethi being inherently cursive. Thirdly: While I realize they could just lie, counting words is still somewhat viable (mainly for proving the margin text). "You expect me to believe you wrote all that in that small space?" or some such, etc.- 30 replies

A hypothesis on the Recreance
The One Who Connects replied to thejopen27's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is a post i made in the Timeline Confusion thread Recreance is minimum 700+ years ago, considered "ancient history" by brandon, but also "more recent than late." Personally, that makes it sound like ... 2,000-2,500ish? Opinions, comments, concerns?- 25 replies

Here is the thing with vorinism
The One Who Connects replied to Disorganizer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I cannot for the life of me remember where this was at the moment, but I distinctly remember Taravangian having learned the Alethi(Vorin?) Women's Script, so it is within the realm of possibility to do. I have taught myself a general level of being able to read and write in that script as well, thanks to Harakeke's translation thread. I mention this fact for 2 reasons. Firstly, to say that it is possible (self-explanatory ) Secondly, due to the fact that I do not use it in my daily routine, I need to use my reference page for a little while before I can read/write without too much trouble. Depending on how active their scribes are for a given span of time, the shrewd Highprince may be rusty with their reading skills.- 30 replies

I think that the existing examples in the books somewhat contradict the idea of bonding being a form of a contract the way you are describing. [. . .] As much as this might be the case, this is not what spren are doing in the few examples of Surgebinders taking Oaths (or speaking Truths) that we actually get to see in the books. So, based on this I am not certain that "bribing" is how I would describe it. To put it in other words: if your motives for saying the Oaths are to get access to the all-powerful drug of Stormlight, you have the wrong Intent, and therefore, you are not going to bond a spren. Not to quote myself but I worded it better back then: "Insidious or not, the Nahel Bond does force you to adhere to a certain lifestyle." I know the Spren/Stormlight Fix comment was meant for someone else' post, but I'm responding to how my "bribery" comment ties into it. You are correct that the Spren don't use the Stormlight as a tool to bribe them into following the Oaths, but the Magic System itself does in a sense. The Spren are more or less a naive middleman in the transaction. (Having flashbacks to my Business Law class is an .. interesting experience) Edit (Clicked Post accidentally): Gah, what can I say that isn't a rehash of what I or others have said..? "Do this thing/say these words/live this lifestyle, you get to have powers. If you don't do what the bond wants, you get nothing." It's a simple concept that we're trying to blow out of proportion becasue that's what we do on this site. Out of proportion, we see things differently and it helps us understand

About the 10 gas giants [AU Spoilers]
The One Who Connects replied to Full Metal Rithmatist's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Elhokar's Shardblade had simple versions of the KR Order Glyphs on it. While there is likely some connection, it may not be a direct jump to the KR. -
I'm combining the emphasized sections into my own crazy idea. Imagine the pain as a two pronged attack. Pain weakens the grip of the investiture behind the command. The command breaker may be able to temporarily disable the active commands (pseudo-factory reset?) The breaker could use that time to command it to reveal part/all of its Command phrase "Some" depending on how short of a short-circuit they can create (more/stronger breath, etc..) The lifeless is "hurt" during the torture. The lifeless may have a reaction to using some of the right words Half-right command makes lifeless start to move before command fails (interpreted as feeling pain) Combine the Prongs and you can intuit things much faster Disclaimer: This is another of my 2 minute theories. Take at face value and with a grain of salt

Honor splintered and created loads of extra spren. Perhaps Nale sees the Nahel Bond as some kind of Symbiotic relationship. Man & Spren could be semi-godlike if you looked at it in a certain light. He may be referring to past hunting trips against proto-radiants. It's my justification for his plurality of "demigods"

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The way I understood it was that you had to intend to make a spike. Meaning that your psycho friend would have to intend to, rather than you intending and providing the spike. It's still a pretty good point to clarify for sure though. -
Their tech relies more on power versus the South, which has tech not reliant on power sources, which could be considered more advanced. If for some reason the Basin ran out of fuel (coal/oil/electricity/etc) then they'd be essentially screwed for a while too. [Not trying to start an argument, but from the Southerners PoV...] Semantics, sorry. The Basin is more advanced in stability, as their fuel source is not tied to bloodlines. The Southern Continent is more advanced in what their tech can do at the time.

I feel like I remember Brandon saying that wanting to stay back and survive was more a response of seeing what Odium's doing than a facet of the intent. That said, I like the idea of a Shard of Caution. Even if it isn't the "hide and survive" figure, one of the Shards should have an aspect of Caution in it's Intent

[AU Spoilers] Selish Essay Contradiction
The One Who Connects replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I am not sure if someone else has mentioned it yet, but if Khriss figured out that the Seons/Skaze are splinters of their respective Shards, perhaps that (Skaze's meddling in Fjordell for sure) would count as highly influential. -
Lord Ruler, Lie Detector? (Mistborn Spoilers)
The One Who Connects replied to twicetested's topic in Mistborn
Might not be the point you mean, but uncertainty is, in a way, a lack of confidence in what you are saying. Given his nature as the "Immortal God-Emperor" or somesuch, I figure he's had experience dealing with people who have nervousness in their voice. I imagine it would be more noticeable coming from one so usually confidant in himself, given how Tevidian talks to the Inquisitors -
We don't know for sure. As for the Honorblades, many have speculated that they are Honor's equivalent of Godmetals like Atium/Lerasium. I haven't managed to find a confirmation, but I have not checked recently

The Cycle of Highstorms screws up everything when it comes to weather. If the Stormfather decided to delay a Storm or two/rush consecutive storms, all manner of things could change. We are fairly sure they follow a predicable cycle (see Stormwardens) but [Speculation] perhaps the Stormfather can affect when that cycle starts at. Let the old pattern naturally end on the Weeping, hold back the storms for a few weeks, then let them go as normal, etc...

I don't know if it has been explicitly confirmed, but a fair number of people on here believe the "Orders have their own Color" idea. As for the body focus/essence doing something extra... No clue. All I know is that the pure essences are easier to Soulcast something into

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I like the idea, but another Allomancer could push on your things too. My idea for a solution might be.. out there compared to what you were imagining, but you inspired my question: Can you push on metal inside your own body or does the Spiritual Interference stop that too? Coppermind doesn't really say either way -

Stormlight 3 %80 done on 1st draft
The One Who Connects replied to bdoble97's topic in Stormlight Archive
Per my memory, Brandon has said that Mistborn Era 4 will be some form of Space Opera. What Era 3 will contain is a bit of a mystery right now -
The Coppermind pages give concise definitions of what the different powers do, but oftentimes it lacks... depth, extrapolation on the subject. Best recent example of this is current arguments on the Eighth Heightening in Warbreaker and what it really means by something as simple as "Command Breaking" Basically, if everything was concise and understood, we would not have a lot of the threads/theories that we have on here.

[AU Spoilers] Khriss and Silverlight
The One Who Connects replied to PallonianFire's topic in Cosmere Discussion
IIRC, Harmony was comparing North and South Scadrian Advancement. He gave them so much; the Basin, Elendel, his Books, etc... And the Southern Continent is catching up/surpassing them without such help. -
AFAIK, Brandon has RAFO'd question about the Lighteyes Origin.I believe the best that we've gotten was a "on the right track" with Radiant Ancestry, but nothing more specific than that. I'm curious if you've read something I haven't seen yet. Also a nitpick, Lighteyes come in a fair bit more colors than Blue.
