So I have seen in other places that a big complaint about Spider-man Far From Home is that the reveal for Mysterio being the villain is obvious. That all you have to do is google the character, or hear the name and you would know he has to be a bad guy. And I get that, but that is because Marvel stuck to the canon of the comic book. This is literally how Mysterio first appeared in the comic books. He was a special effects engineer on movie sets. He wanted to become a big name, so his plan was to defeat and capture spider-man. He used his knowledge of special effects to frame spider-man as a criminal, and he would pretend to be a superhero to defeat him. So yeah everyone knew what was going to happen to Mysterio, because that is literally the villain's origin story. I think Marvel did a great job sticking to it, and was very clever keeping people guessing with the "alternate reality" line in the trailers.

There is a limit on how much can be stored at a time (75% in some cases for instance) Thoughtful Spurts If there's really no upper limit to Feruchemy for practical reasons* , why didn't Sazed just fill steel at ridiculous levels for a few minutes in [Well of Ascension], and then go back to running instead of leaving his steelminds there? Say, being some 100,000 times slower than he would normally be for about a minute. Meaning that a Feruchemist should be able to fill a given metalmind in very short periods of time if you fill at a high enough rate. *(yes, you have the limit of how much you can store in a given metalmind and for how many metalminds you can carry on your person, but those are probably too high to really be taken into account in more "normal" circumstances) Brandon Sanderson The low end is bounded. You can pull out tons--but in filling, you can only go so far. I didn't ever explicitly talk about this in the series, but the implications are there. Not all have the same bounds, but in your example, the body just can't slow beyond a certain point. Think of it this way--you can only fill a weight metalmind with as much weight as you have to give. So you can become very, very light--but you only add to a time for doubling your weight. You can't make yourself 100,000 times slower and gain 100,000 times multiplication. You can give up all of your normal speed, and so when you tap that speed out you are at 200% for an equal period. (And that's a theoretical maximum; realistically, you can only go to down around 75% slower or the like.)

immortal words Oath Four Revealed?

Personally I still do not see what purpose a political marriage would accomplish (Jasnah does not need legitimacy, Gavinor is the heir, Kaladin is an agnostic so wouldn't bring the Vorin religion under her plus he is a radiant so the religion would be against him, they are both radiants so his radiancy would add nothing, and she "smiled" when telling Amaram to go to hell so to me the smile she made with Kaladin was a check mate moment, nothing more.) but I respect that it works for you, and I wish you luck with the theory!- 51 replies

Dont have the time nor ability to reply in full as I would like but I would like to quickly throw in one tid bit. I still am very much of the opinion that we have seen no where near the level of forces odium can bring to bear that resulted in the desolations being such world ending events. I think it is a gross over estimation and over simplification to think what little number of forces we have seen so far is what desolations in the past have been. Odium thought he had it in the bag. That dalinar would side with him. The humans would be routed and the war won in one fell swoop. Odium was so confident in victory he actually told the parshendi to stand back and watch. That to me is why we haven't seen more yet So the heralds needed to be the power level they were to face everything else odium has access to that we haven't even seen yet -

This might clarify a bit: Questioner So I have heard that it is harder to Push a Shardblade with Allomancy than it is a normal sword. Brandon Sanderson Yes. Questioner Is that true of both living and dead Shardblades? Brandon Sanderson Yes. Questioner Equally? Brandon Sanderson Uh, no. Questioner Okay, so it's even more difficult to Push one alive. Brandon Sanderson The thing-- An Invested object is more difficult with any of the magics. So, for instance, even a Feruchemical metalmind is going to be harder. Depends on how much it is Invested, and things like that. But, y'know, it can range from you barely notice it or don't even notice it to "Wow, that's hard to Push on". Same for a Hemalurgical spike, depending on how much Investiture is left over, how long has it been outside of a body, and things like that. Same thing Pushing on something inside a person's body, their Investiture is going to interfere with it. Same thing, when you read White Sand, why a person slapping their hand through someone's stream of sand can throw off the entire creation of the sand mastery. It's just-- There's interference patterns, and things like that. Questioner And is that true of a Drab as well? Does the body affect-- Brandon Sanderson The Drab is going to have less. Questioner So they just have less Investiture, but they still have some natural Investiture? Brandon Sanderson They do still have some. They've lost their Breath but that isn't the entirety of the Investiture inside of them. Almost all of the times we see Vin--in fact I think every time--we see Vin, or someone in the Mistborn books, Pushing or Pulling on an Invested metal they are either drawing on the mist or they're Elend or the Lord Ruler who have the enhanced power, or something like that. Or it's a duralumin Push, or its one of the Inquisitors who's had a spike-- y'know, and things like that, that've-- And so it's not something that you see done very often in the Mistborn books. Rubix I can actually confirm that's correct. Brandon Sanderson Oh you guys looked it up? Rubix I checked. Brandon Sanderson I mean it can be done. And depending on Investiture it can be not even that hard to do but-- Firefight release party (Jan. 5, 2015) -

Will pull up the WoB, but just because something is full of investiture does not make it physically more durable. So for instance an invested metal mind blocks a shardblade from phasing through it, but a sword coming down on a thin band of metal is going to dent or cut it. Metal minds can be melted down and reforged even when they have attributed stored in them. It screws with accessing the investiture, but that doesn't prevent it from harm. Now as to division, that causes some questions. First, I consider what Amaram did was division. That was at range. Second, does division transform the object, or burn the object? Amaram's use (assuming it is division) seems to burn. If that is the case them the metal minds would get destroyed. As to soulcasting, as I said, first Battar would use transportation to go to the cognitive realm. Then she could take all the time she wanted to transform the metal minds from the cognitive realm. (WoB about how invested the lord ruler's metal minds are) Trae Cooper (paraphrased) Why are Invested objects like metalminds and Hemalurgic spikes able to be Pushed and Pulled on, but Shardblades and Shardplate, which are also invested, are not susceptible to Pushing and Pulling? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) There were a few concepts that he outlined in answering this question. 1.) The ability to Push/Pull an Invested object is predicated to the amount/power of the Investiture. 2.) Further, Invested objects also gain resistance to pulling/pushing based on proximity to soul possibly via the soul. An example given is that a Hemalurgic spike touches the blood of the person, and from there is now part of both the Spiritual Realm and the Physical Realm. This provides what Brandon termed a kind of "soul interference," based on its proximity to the soul. This further explains why Vin required more than normal power to Push/Pull the metalminds from the Lord Ruler, because of their proximity to his soul, via the Spiritual Realm. 3.) The amount of Investiture is relatively low on Scadrial, whereas worlds like Sel and Roshar are pushing around "high power" according to Brandon. I interpreted this to mean that Hemalurgic spikes and metalminds have low amounts of Investiture compared to Shardplate and Shardblades. Brandon said that theoretically you can Push/Pull Shardblades and Shardplates but you would need to wield an incredible amount of power. One example he gave that could so such as a thing is that if you were a Mistborn wielding the full power of the Well of Ascension, you could Push/Pull Shardblades/Plate. -

There is a limit to how much you could fill based on how many metal minds you have. Compounding works by you storing an attribute to change the nature of the metal. then when you burn it, you get more out of that attribute. So storing itself is not the compounding. The metalminds do not. I will elaborate further below but first I will reply to your subsequent point. That is great that the lord ruler can heal. Just a shame that division would destroy the metal minds preventing further compounding. Lord Ruler dies What the lord ruler has is not the bands of mourning first of all. That is a separate creation. The lord ruler's bracers themselves are just used to enable the lord ruler to compound which is where the increase in investiture is coming from. We also have WoB that soucasters (the fabrial) are used to pushing through investiture, and would be able to soulcast metal minds. If a fabrial soulcaster can push through a similar level of investiture in order to soulcast a metal mind, then to me Battar being fueled directly by honor I would imagine could push through a similar level of investiture in the lord ruler's bracers. As answered above, the metalminds still get destroyed, and there goes his compounding. -
Again, at the end of the day, if something doesn't work for you, then that's ok, it happens. Everyone's got their opinion. Now having said that, Dalinar defends Elhokar to anyone. Even Elhokar's own mother. Before the climatic moment, Dalinar talks to Kaladin about Roshone remember? Kaladin asks him about it, and Dalinar explains the situation. That is the moment that Kaladin thinks back to to realize Elhokar is Dalinar's Tien. That for me is enough. Re-read the scene where Dalinar and Kaladin talk about it. If after re-reading that scene, it still doesn't work for you, then to each their own. So the scene is Words of Radiance page 815. The order of events are Dalinar made it to the other side, and is talking to Kaladin. The carpenter on the other side calls to Dalinar. Dalinar begins to walk back while Kaladin remains. Dalinar passes Adolin and Shallan. Dalinar continues to walk when Kaladin realizes he recognizes the carpenter. Kaladin begins running. Adolin notices Kaladin running and he spins around and begins running too while searching for whatever danger Kaladin spotted. His father is the target of Sadeas, so it would make sense for him to run towards Dalinar. Shallan is at the center of the bridge when Kaladin passes her which means he is about half way. The carpenter then grabs the lever. Kaladin yells to Adolin that it is the carpenter. Meanwhile Dalinar gets distracted by the horns that sounded that the enemy was spotted. At that point Adolin reached Dalinar (Adolin is in his shardplate, so he would be moving faster). Then the bridge lurches and collapses. That sequence of events works for me. If it doesn't for you, to each their own.

@cometaryorbit may be referring to my prior posts on other threads. We know prior to honor's death that the honorblades were fueled directly by honor, and they allowed the heralds to have access to levels of investiture no radiant could ever come close to. When Vin was fueled directly by preservation she was able to level Kredik Shaw with a steel push. So I put forth imagine any of the surges with that level of strength and size. I also put forward based on what we have seen, power activation from both mistborn/feruchemist as well as surgebinder requires the speed of thought activation. Assuming both parties are standing an average distance apart, a countdown sounds like mortal kombat, and then someone yells fight! the lord ruler would activate physical and mental speed immediately. At the very same time, if it were Nale for instance, he would activate (since he is touching the ground) a huge gravitational field that crushes anything to paste. Nale could instead or in additional to the gravitation field, use division through the entire area reducing the lord ruler to nothing. Except for steel pushing/iron pulling, none of the Lord ruler's abilities are ranged. In order for the lord ruler to then decide to use steel pushing or iron pulling (which wouldn't work on the honorblade because it does not need to be summoned to use its powers), regardless the increase of physical speed/mental speed, the herald's surges have already been activated and take up the entire field. Personally I think Battar would be better. She could transfer to the cognitive realm the minute the battle started, and then soulcast the metal minds to smoke (fabrial soulcasters can do this to metal minds as per WoB, nonetheless an honorfueled transformation surge). The lord ruler no longer has compounding and either dies of old age, or Batter can then soulcast his no longer invested self into smoke. -
That is the conclusion that Hrathen came to for himself, not as per his religion's doctrine. It is stated in the book that whatever Wyrn writes is scripture. I will expand below Elantris page 33 "Not just the seal, Arteth" Hrathen said "That is his signature as well. The document you hold was penned by His Holiness himself. Than isn't just a letter - it is scripture" Few people had the opportunity to read words written by the hand of Jaddeth's prophet and Holy Emperor Elantris page 37 It had been scribed in front of Hrathen by Wyrn's own hand. It was revelation directly from Jaddeth; scripture intended for only one man. Few people ever got to meet Jaddeth's anointed, and even among the gyorns, private audiences were rare. To receive orders directly from Wyrn's hand...such was the most exquisite of experiences. Hrathen ran his eyes over the sacred words, even though he had long since memorized their every detail Behold the words of Jaddeth, through His servant Vyrn Wulfden the Fourth, Emporer and King. High Priest and Son, your request has been granted. Go to the heathen peoples of the West and declare to them my final warning, for while my Empire is eternal, my patience will soon end. Not much longer will I slumber within a tomb of rock. The Day of Empire is at hand, and my glory will soon shine forth, a second sun blazing forth from Fjorden. The pagan nations of Arelon and Teod have been blackened scars upon my land for long enough. Three hundred years have my priests served amongst those tainted by Elantris and few have harkened to their call. Know this, High Priest: My faithful warriors are prepared and they wait only the word of my Wyrn. You have three months to prophesy to the people of Arelon. At the end of that time, the holy soldiers of Fjorden will descend on the nation like hunting predators, rending and tearing the unworthy life from those who heed not my words. Only three months will pass before the destruction of all who oppose my Empire. The time for my ascension nears, my son. Be stalwart, and be diligent. Words of Jaddeth, Lord of all Creation through his servant Wyrn Wulfden the Fourth, Emperor of Fjorden, Prophet of Shu-Dereth, Ruelr of Jaddeth's Holy Kingdom and Regent of all Creation Elantris page 110 "But there is another way. lord Jaddeth will rise when every living soul is united - The Teos will be no obstacle if we destroy them. When the final Teo heaves his last sigh, when the Elantrians have been burned from the face of Sycla, then all men will follow Wyrn. Then Jaddeth will come." Elantris page 155 He finished with a stunning admonition to serve in Jaddeth's kingdom, to swear themselves as odiv or krondet to one of the priests in Kae, thereby becoming part of the chain that linked them directly to Lord Jaddeth. The common people served the arteths and dorven, the artetsh and dorven served the gradors, the gradors served the ragnats, the ragnats served the gyorns, the gyorns served Wyrn, and Wyrn served Jaddeth. Only the gragdets - leaders of the monasteries - weren't directly in the line. it was a superbly organized system. Everyone knew whom he or she had to serve; most didn't need to worry about the commands of Jaddeth, which were often above their understanding. All they had to do was follow their arteth, serve him as best they could, and Jaddeth would be pleased with them. Elantris page 160 "O great lord and master, Jaddeth's anointed, and emperor in the light of His favor" Elantris page 206 "I spoke of Wyrn, Regent of all Creation, leader of Shu-Dereth. Come now, Lord Telrii. Let us be frank. How many soldiers are there in Hrovell? In Jaador? In Svorden? In the other nations of the East? These are people who have sworn themselves Derethi. You don't think they would rise up at Wyrn's command?" Elantris page 244 "If Wyrn declares holy war on us, then it will mean the end of Teod" Elantris page 258 "And the burning fire of Jaddeth's displeasure shall clense them" "Judgement belongs to Jaddeth alone, and it is executed by his only servant Wyrn" Elantris page 262 "A true follower of Jaddeth will do anything to bring about His Empire, my lord" Well, at least he knows his Derethi doctrine, Hrathen thought with a mental shrug. (little side note, Hrathen is an odiv of Wyrn. please see the terms of being an odiv below) Elantris page 299 The calling of odiv was very demanding; most normal Derethi believers, even many priests, were sworn to the less restrictive position of krondet. A krondet listened to the cousel of his hroden, but was not morally bound to do what he was told. It was well within Dilaf's power to make his odivs accompany him to Fjorden. Hrathen could have no control over what the arteth did with his sworn followers; it would be a grave breach of protocol to order Dilaf to leave them behind. If the arteth tried to drag them to Fjorden, it was unlikely they would follow. And if that happened, Hrathen would be forced to excommunicate every single one of them. (so if an odiv disobeys his hroden, a moral duty, then that individual is to be excommunicated from the church. By Hrathen going against Wyrn, he is excommunicated from his religion) Elantris page 331 Dilaf was slowly seizing control. That in itself wasn't as frightening as Hrathen's own sense of foreboding. What if Dilaf was right to try and oust Hrathen? What if Arelon would be better off with Dilaf in control? Dilaf wouldn't have worried about the death caused by a bloody revolution; he would have known that the people would eventually be better off under Shu-Dereth, even if their initial conversion required a massacre. Dilaf had faith. Dilaf believed in what he was doing. Elantris page 567 Hrathen bowed his head. His duty was clear; Dilaf was his superior. "You forget to whom you speak, Gyorn" Dilaf snapped "This people is unholy. Only Arelenes and Teos can become Elantrians. if we destory them, then we end the heresy of Elantris forever" "You will slaughter them all? You would murder an entire nation of people?" "it is the only way to be certain" Elantris page 570 The Dakhor were Wyrn's favored warriors; their leader would be privy to many of his secrets (Hrathen is having trouble with his decision because it runs counter to Wyrn. Sarene calls him out on it) Elantris page 589 "Why did you do it, Hrathen?" she asked "Why turn against your people?" Hrathen hesitated. Then looked away. "Dilaf's actions are evil" "But your faith...." "My faith is in Jaddeth, a God who wants the devotion of men. A massacre does not serve Him" "Wyrn seems to think differently" Hrathen did not respond. Elantris page 594 "You didn't really answer my question before, priest" Sarene whispered "You have turned against your religion. Why?" "I......I don't know, woman. I have followed Shu-Dereth since I was a child - the structure and formality of it have always called to me. i joined the priesthood. I.....thought I had faith. it turned out, however, that the thing I grew to believe was not Shu-Dereth after all. i don't know what it is" "That is too simple. Belief is not simply Korathi or Derethi. one or the other. I still believe Dereth's teachings. My problem is with Wyrn, not God" Horrified at his show of weakness before the girl, Hrathen quickly steeled his heart against further questions. Yes, he had betrayed Shu- Dereth. Yes he was a traitor. (so by Hrathen's own words, he is betraying Shu-Dereth's doctrines. He is choosing to ignore it, and trust in what he personally feels is right with what he feels is his god. He acknowledges what he believes no longer lines up with the religion Shu-Dereth. That does not change the doctrine as it stands. Only that he personally disagrees with it and chooses to believe his own interpretation. Regardless as per the doctrine, he will be excommunicated and branded a heretic by Shu-Dereth.) Elantris page 597 How had Wyrn known that Fjon would find Hrathen here, on the streets of Teoras of all places? Fjon would probably never know; Lord Jaddeth moved in ways beyond the understanding of men. (but finally the nail in the coffin here is far earlier in the novel. Let us go back to that term odiv. Hrathen is Wyrn's odiv. This is what an odiv fully entails) Elantris page 36 "My lord....I am, of course, your humble servant" "You will be more than that, Arteth" Hrathen said "if you would be my odiv, I your hroden. You will be mine, heart and soul. If you follow Jaddeth, you follow Him through me. if you serve the empire, you do it under me. Whatever you think, act or say, will be by my direction. Am I understood?"

If it helps, I was the one saying that since the fundamental tenet of the religion is that Wyrn is their god's voice and will on Sel, and since anything Wyrn does or says is treated as scripture and divine law, then the actions that Wyrn commanded and Dilaf carried out are considered commandments from their god. So to me if the actions taken are evil, then the religion that commanded them, and due to its structure means it is holy scripture, then it too is evil. To say the actions of the individuals bears no commentary on that specific religion to me is ignoring the main source of conflict for Hrathen and his crisis of faith. For him, his very god, who he was taught to obey in all things, and is all powerful and all knowing, is commanding him to do something he views as wrong. That religion leaves no wiggle room. Wyrn decrees, their god commands. If it was taught that Wyrn is human and can be fallible, that is a different matter. But that is not the case here.

As Karger put forward, an alloy would work better because aluminum is relatively weak/brittle on its own. So forget the slicing through anything property of shardblades. If you have a metal that is brittle, and you hit it with a blade, or punch the blade forward into it, it will penetrate. The aluminum would need to be reinforced through alloying it with other metals to increase its strength and durability.

How to (and how NOT to) redeem Moash
Pathfinder replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
The sheer fact that there are 10 orders of knights all based on different interpretations of honor, that conduct themselves in different ways, and disagree on what is honorable shows honor is not as cut and dry as you claim. But let us also look to the multiple definitions of honor and their synonyms. As you can see there is room for both honor in morality, and honor in obligation. noun 1. high respect; great esteem. "his portrait hangs in the place of honor" synonyms:distinction, privilege, glory, tribute, kudos, cachet, prestige, fame, renown, merit, credit, importance, illustriousness, notability; More 2. adherence to what is right or to a conventional standard of conduct. "I must as a matter of honor avoid any taint of dishonesty" synonyms:integrity, honorableness, honesty, uprightness, ethics, morals, morality, principle, (high) principles, righteousness, rectitude, nobility, high-mindedness, right-mindedness, noble-mindedness; More verb 1. regard with great respect. "they honore their parents in all they did" synonyms:hold in great respect, hold in high esteem, have a high regard for, esteem, respect, admire, defer to, look up to, think highly of; More 2. fulfill (an obligation) or keep (an agreement). "make sure the franchisees honor the terms of the contract" synonyms:fulfill, observe, keep, discharge, implement, perform, execute, effect, obey, heed, follow, carry out, carry through, keep to, abide by, adhere to, comply with, conform to, act in accordance with, be true to, be faithful to, live up to; rareeffectuate "make sure the franchisees honor the terms of the contract" -
Her overt actions cause people to think she is hiding. The reality is she is working behind the scenes. Just like I said to Karger, if that WoB does not do it for you, then to each their own, but I believe it stands well on its own. Preservation didn't, but Harmony did and it is stated all over the books he did, even from his own lips. That is literally what I called it. A rabbit hole/tinfoil theory. I never said I personally believe it. I said it is possible/plausible. I am not trying to convince you. All I am stating is it could be considered a theory till we gain further information. And just like you have your own interpretation of the WoB I posted, I have my own for the one you posted. To me Brandon hedged. He said no to "is she just like “Keep Nalthis safe” like Sazed is" That says to me that she is not focused solely on keeping Nalthis safe to the exclusion of everything else. That runs rather counter to the statement in the book in my opinion Then he said not really to: "does she have a plan that involves the cosmere..." That says to me that she does not have an overarching plan for the entire cosmere like Odium has. That does not preclude to me acting against a shard she views as a danger. Then finally he responded that she is focused on her thing to: "...or is it just to stay on..." Which says to me absolutely confirming nothing. Endowment is doing her thing. No mention of what that thing is. So to me the WoB you posted shows nothing against the possibility of Endowment working in the background. But as I said to Karger, hey we each see things differently, and that is fine. Guess RAFO! And as I said everyone on Roshar thinks Cultivation is not involved, but you said you do not take anything they say as information, so it would be pointless to argue it. Suffice it to say, I think the theory has potential but there is not enough information at this time to go one way or the other. It doesn't work for you, and that is fine. To each their own. Guess RAFO

Because as I said, the feruchemist has to be actively tapping the stores for it to be considered kinetic and be detected. It is very difficult to detect investiture that is stored. It is possible for a seeker, but extremely difficult. Here are four WoB: Questioner Does bronze detect Investiture or only Allomancy? Brandon Sanderson Investiture. It can be used for other things. But like most detection methods, it doesn't look for wells of power, it looks for power that's being used, generally. You get enough power together, and bronze will be able to find it no matter what. AltF4WillHelp Sorry if this has been asked before; I haven't been able to find a direct answer anywhere. It came up while playing the Mistborn Adventure Game (which has been very fun, btw!). A Feruchemist can easily determine whether any metal is a metalmind, regardless of whether it's theirs, simply by touching it. And a Ferring can definitely determine the same, but for their own metal. But, a question came up: can a Ferring also—perhaps with practice—tell whether any piece of metal has been stored in/is a metalmind? Would this be easier for certain kinds of Ferrings? (Ones that are more directly in tune with Investiture, perhaps?) And, if they can determine that a piece of metal is Invested, would they feel something similar to what Vin did when she was examining Sazed's metalmind? Would they be able to tell what the metal it is based on how that power feels? (That last bit might be infringing on what skilled/savant bronze Mistings might be able to do). Brandon Sanderson So, bronze Mistings are really good at reading investiture that is being used--it's harder to simply "detect investiture" as all things are made out of investiture in the cosmere. That said, I could see your game allowing this, as it's a natural extrapolation of the magic--and it could make for some good gameplay. Don't be afraid to extrapolate the magic for your own uses, even if it doesn't fall right in line with the way I do things. zas678 Can you detect Feruchemy with bronze Allomancy? Brandon Sanderson It is actually possible but it's very difficult. There's a tweak that you need to do to make it work and I haven't talked about that yet. They do not know how to do it… on Scadrial. But you can theoretically detect all kinds of active Investiture. Investiture that's being used. Kinetic Investiture would be the way to call it. Questioner Is there a way to tell between different Investitures? Brandon Sanderson Yes. Questioner For each Shard. Brandon Sanderson Oh, for each Shard? Each Shard-- Most of the magics have built into them that ability, but I wouldn't say that everyone does. I am trying to remember if they all do... I lot of them have a power that would allow you to do that, but I don't know if every one of them does. Questioner No, I mean that, in the ones that do have [this ability], they can tell the difference between each one. Brandon Sanderson If you were really good at burning bronze, you could use bronze to distinguish between different types of Investiture from different planets even. And that sort of skill does exist in other magic systems. Argent Is it like a wavelength kind of thing? Brandon Sanderson Yea, that's exactly what it is.

Personally I feel the WoB I posted, and will post again below is self explanatory and stands on its own. If that does not work for you, then I guess to each their own. Gavin-son-son-Odegard How does Cultivation figure in this conflict between Odium? Brandon Sanderson So, what people assume is that Cultivation is hiding. I would disagree with that. People in-world would assume that.
-
My post got updated with the relevant WoB. People on Roshar think Cultivation is hiding and not facing Odium. The reality is quite different. So to me the analogy stands. Cultivation is claiming one thing regarding Odium so he doesn't consider her an active threat, but in reality she is moving things behind the scenes. Overtly Endowment could be saying leave everyone alone, but be covertly moving things behind the scenes. From the info I have read, I feel Cultivation is confirmed, while Endowment is a theory.
-
Odium does. Other characters do. They are given the impression that Cultivation does not care since the death of Honor. I think there was a WoB as well, so give me a sec to pull that up. edit: found it! i think there is another one too, so I will try to find it, but this is what i found so far. Gavin-son-son-Odegard How does Cultivation figure in this conflict between Odium? Brandon Sanderson So, what people assume is that Cultivation is hiding. I would disagree with that. People in-world would assume that. Questioner We saw that, in one case that she felt it was very important, Cultivation intervened when Dalinar was asking for his boon from the Nightwatcher. You said that for the most part she just sort of lets her work, but has she intervened in other cases that she feels are important, specifically with Taravangian? the lost metal The Lost Metal Cover Character
Pathfinder replied to Use the Falchion's topic in Mistborn
Wasn't there a WoB or some such that said the Lost Metal would focus more on Marasi, while Wax takes a step back to focus on his house and his marriage? -
I got that. and what Quantus is saying, and I helped clarify, is there is a potential for her to claim one intention, while in reality acting towards another. Cultivation claims the intention of not getting involved with the humans and the war, yet we see the reality is she is very involved (Lift, Dalinar, potentially Taravangian). So the potential is there. Not confirmed by any stretch, and it is all rabbit hole/tin foil theory, but it is potential.

Questioner #1 (in Mistborn cosplay) (paraphrased) Do Ryshadium exist because of a spren bond, like greatshells? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yea, they evolved symbiotically with spren, unlike other horses. They can still mate will other horses, but they are genetically distinct. Questioner So, you spend a lot of time comparing lifespren and rotspren. They're complementary colors, *inaudible*. The rotspren can appear around animals, as well, whereas lifespren only appear around plants. Is that a misnomer? Is there something that we're missing? Brandon Sanderson No, there's nothing you're missing. It just takes a large number of organisms in the same place. So, in a herd of animals, you could find lifespren. They don't come to people as often. But, the thing you have to remember about spren is: spren are attracted by something. And they have to be nearby, and they have to make their way there. So, sometimes, you will have an emotion, and no spren will appear. Because there's not one nearby enough. Or they just didn't feel like this. I worked this in because I didn't want the spren popping up too much. They're a big symbol of Roshar, they're a way, in very early chapters, for you to realize this is a different place and a different world. But if every other sentence were, "And a spren appeared," it would go crazy way too fast. They are less likely to attract radiant spren. Not spren in general. Questioner What would happen if a Parshendi were to attract a spren and bring it into the Highstorm? Like, an Honorspren of some sort? Brandon Sanderson Sapient spren have a choice of whether they get bonded or not, unless you entrap them some way. But simply attracting them...simply going into the Highstorm with one wouldn't work, what you said is 'attracted a spren', so, to answer that actually... The thing is, honorspren, all the spren of Honor and Cultivation, not honorspren capital, Honorspren or whatever... The spren that create the orders of the Knights Radiant have not, in the past, been attracted to Parshendi because of certain events in the past. Questioner *inaudible* Brandon Sanderson You'll have to Read and Find Out.

The below WoB does not exactly answer your question, but does give further information that you might enjoy IneptProfessional Since you mention languages on Roshar, are there any languages that are completely unrelated to any other on the planet? Brandon Sanderson Our basic language families are: Vorin: Alethi, Veden, Herdazian, and more distantly Thaylen. Nathan is close to dead, but shares a root, and Karbranthian is basically a dialect. Other minor languages like Bav are in here. Makabaki: Azish is king here, and most the languages around split off this. There are around thirty of these. Dawnate: A varied language family with distant roots in the dawnchant. Shin, parshendi, Horneater. They share grammar, but they diverged long enough ago that the vocabulary is very different. Iri: Iriali, Reshi, Purelake dialects, Riran, and some surrounding languages. Aimian: These two are lumped together, but are very different. Probably what you were looking for. That isn't counting spren languages, of course. I might have missed something. Typing on my phone without my wiki handy.

Alteroden With [Feruchemical] zinc, you get mental speed. How is that any different from [Feruchemical] steel, except without [physical] speed? Brandon Sanderson I think of the mental speed actually turning you into... Let's say you sped up your body, and you wanted to figure out some really complex equations. Alteroden So it lets you have intuitive leaps. Brandon Sanderson Right. It basically turns you into Ken Jennings. That's how I imagine it. Kurkistan So it's not like bullet time? Brandon Sanderson No... It'll bullet time a little bit, it certainly will, because you're thinking faster than everyone else, but it has applications beyond bullet timing. Bullet time is really-- Kurkistan That’s steel’s thing? Brandon Sanderson That’s kind of steel's thing. They kind of overlap on that one, because the steel thing... But yeah. It's more like "I think fast, but my reaction speed is not sped up".
