  1. What I want to know is, what kind of stick was it? I mean, you take a stick, plant it, and it becomes a tree. Sometimes, depending on the stick. But other sticks just decompose and rot away. And given what we know about Shadesmar and identity (the longer a thing exists, the more secure it's identity), how long must the stick have been a stick to have developed the cognitive awareness of being a stick, rather than a piece of broken tree, or an overly energetic seed?
  2. I know I shouldn't but... The ghost of Bort drifts on through, arms waving and silent cheers coming from his spectral mouth. Well done Elantrians, good show
  3. May 5th, I should be ok for then, so please sign me up as Jynx, a half-skaa, half-noble thief.
  4. I'm in, but when are you planning on starting? I ask because will have limited access next week.
  5. Feist was one of the first fantasy authors I got into of my own accord - Magician was brilliant. I'm even currently reading the Empire trilogy he wrote with Janny Wurts. I got sorely disappointed by Feist though. It seemed he got to the point where he was just writing because he was expected to, and Midkemia just got more and more horribly complicated for no good reason. The last straw, which stopped me buying his books, was a comment from him, answering a question about one of the Great Houses in the Empire trilogy. Namely, why is it in his later books when the House was utterly destroyed in the Empire trilogy? His answer was simple: I write a lot, and can't be expected to remember every minor detail. While yes, I can understand that logic, the House in question was a major antagonist for two books, and their defeat a major, major plot point that literally ended with the obliteration of the name and everyone associated with it. Not only was it pretty easy to remember, it was easily avoided sloppy writing, Isn't this why long standing authors hire lorekeepers, or whatever Peter's job title is?
  6. Nothing that immediately springs to mind - I just remember watching it at times and thinking, "But hang on, you already have a solution to this," or something along those lines.
  7. I started early - The Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton, starting with The Enchanted Wood. Then, as I grew up, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Fighting Fantasy. I didn't really consider myself as a fan of the fantasy genre though, until I read Sorceress of Darshiva by David Eddings. Although technically book 9 of a ten book series (or book 4 of a second 5 book series), it was the first novel I read that made me go out and seek the other books in the series.
  8. I have to agree with @Andy92 about this season of Arrow. It has felt a bit forced in places, but generally has been a damnation sight better than season 4. Flash, I'm starting to get a bit sick of. They always run into the same problems time and time again, and yet are incapable of learning from their mistakes. Legends of Tomorrow, so long as you ignore the little things like continuity, it's brilliant. I have to say this season, I've been quite impressed with Zari, and her 'hacking time' concept.
  9. It might, it might not. I'll admit it raises questions, but at the same time, when Lift goes for a bit of illusionary support she has to ask Shallan to stop hugging herself, which makes me wonder which of the three Shallans were really present, and which were in her head. Obviously, all three were there when Jasnah turned up, but I think it is a bit ambiguous which of the three Shallan actually was before then. That is what makes me wonder if Shallan does have Plate, but her head-state means she can only access it as Radiant. I'll admit, you are probably right, and it was all an illusion, but there are enough questions about Shallan and how she has compartmentalized everything in her head that makes me unsure about just accepting that conclusion.
  10. Maybe. By the time Jasnah meets up with her though, Shallan is knackered from the battle and may no longer be in the Plate. Don't forget also, Shallan was Radiant by that point too.
  11. Ask your friends if you could sit in on one of their sessions and observe. And as has already been mentioned, take a look at the Players' Handbook. That will give you an idea of what races and classes there are. Unlike @Archer though, I don't recommend being an Elf. Yes, their dexterity bonus is nice, but they also receive a constitution penalty, so fewer hitpoints.
  12. Until last weekend, I was attempting a 100% achievement run on Skyrim SE, but then it started to get buggy, with regular crashes, so I tried it with a few mods. Not bad, some nice mod additions to the game, but disabled achievements, so I thought 'sod that.' On Saturday I bought Witcher 3, and despite a disappointing start, I have discovered it is a thoroughly enjoyable game. When compared to Skyrim though, I do feel that Witcher is slightly less immersive, which I think is down to the variety of activities you have to do in Skyrim, which you don't get in Witcher. On the plus side though, Witcher 3 actually has a little side game which interests me, unlike pretty much every other RPG minigame out there - Gwent. It's a card game which does involve collecting cards to build your deck, but once that is out of the way, it's actually pretty fun. @Kidpen - KotOR, great game, as is the sequel.
  13. Remember Thaylan City. Radiant wore Plate, and she was Shallan's persona that had accepted what they needed in order to be, well, radiant. So, illusion or real Plate? I think it might be real.
  14. I'll tell you what might be one of the causes of this - people repeatedly changing their name and avatar on here. When this happens we don't have any way of knowing who is who.
  15. Thanks for bringing this up @little wilson It does feel rather crappy to come back to SE, then just get immediately killed off, especially for, as far as I can see, no good reason. Hell, in the LG, I even removed my vote from someone in the first cycle because it was their first game. And how am I treated? A lynch mob forms on me for wanting to give others a chance to play, and not pushing for a first cycle death. Then, when I get saved by some miracle (still unsure what happened there), I get offed that night by the eliminators. Thanks guys, way to make someone feel welcome The QF is less of a concern because it is a quick game, so I expect people to die off quickly in that one. An extra cycle or two would have been appreciated.
  16. Here in the UK, nonplussed means almost the exact opposite. If someone is described as looking nonplussed, then they look confused. That was what totally threw me, and just changing the meaning of that one word makes the end result completely different. @Jofwu - That's something I didn't think of, although back when Kaladin knew Tarah, was he already being called Stormblessed by then?
  17. I don't think the bar was Sadeas' part of the tower. I kinda got the impression that the grand market halls were more of a communal area, like inthe warcamps, the main market was separate from the soldiers' camps.
  18. I'm also thinking it was Tien.
  19. Why not? Bridge Four still socialize, not to mention that, by that point in the book, word had been spread that the bridgemen were recruiting. That would have made getting close enough pretty easy, and it's not like she would have had to approach while they were guarding Dalinar's rooms or something.
  20. Not too convinced. As you say, Urithiru would likely all be talking about Kaladin and the other Radiants, so if she was there looking for him, why would she be sitting waiting for someone in a dingy bar? I'd like it to be Tarah, but I'm not convinced.
  21. I found this pretty confusing, since apparently the word 'nonplussed' has different definitions depending on where you are, and I directly contacted Brandon and Peter for clarification. It turns out that, in this case, nonplussed means 'not surprised,' in direct opposition to every other time I have ever read that word. I thought it was Jasnah gaining her Shardplate for the first time, and she looked shocked when Adolin ran around the corner. Now I know that whatever happened was perfectly normal for Jasnah, and she did not look at all surprised. Which still makes me think the geometric lines was her Plate forming/leaving, but that she was used to it. It's still jarring, since I don't think it makes sense now. - "Instead, he found only Jasnah Kholin, looking perfectly normal. A glow faded around her, different from the smoke of her Stormlight. Like geometric shapes outlining her." It doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it?
  22. Well, I guess that's me dead. Again. My return to SE lasts 2 rounds in 2 games each
  23. More "Guys, I think this is suspicious, and here's my logic," but without wanting to commit at the time - we had all cycle to discuss.
  24. That's just it, @Elenion these are exactly the arguments that either side would make - a villager trying to do the right thing, or an eliminator trying to mislead the thread. How to tell? As I said, I'm only voting for you because I don't have any other suspicions. If I did have other suspicions, I'd probably give you the benefit of the doubt. As you say though, the game is likely decided within the next few cycles, so better to vote on little suspicions than on none at all.
