Quick Fix Game 31: <MISSING VARIABLE>
Bort replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This is my point. The eliminators having to fulfil specific conditions to gain access to their kill is an unusual enough rule that it stood out - to me at least. Elenion assumed from the start that Sophie could kill immediately, against what it said in the rules, but which turned out to be true. His initial timeline was for the actual rules, not the stated rules which turned out to be false (Fake news!!! ). I felt it suspicious enough to bring up, but like you, I can see it being a mistake that someone might make, which is why I didn't vote for him - I wanted to see what others thought first. Also, Elenion seems to be trying very hard to lead the discussion. The perfect place for an eliminator. Of course, it's also the perfect place for an enthusiastic villager (who one would assume had read all of the rules carefully). Upon conclusion, Elenion, mostly because my vote has to go somewhere, and these are the best suspicions I have right now. @Droughtbringer apparently enough to vote for me. I didn't think I'd pushed too hard, really. I might be having the same problem as you. A lot of the people playing SE these days I never had the chance to play with before I quit playing a few years back, so I know nothing about most of your play styles. @randuir - see the line above. This is why I am hesitant to place votes this early in the game. I don't know if what I am looking at is suspicious behaviour for the player, or just their normal play style.- 268 replies

Quick Fix Game 31: <MISSING VARIABLE>

I'm not going to place a vote just yet, since we've got most of the day for discussions. Rereading day one, there is something fishy about Elenium's first post - he got the rules right. Despite Joe's error in the rules, Elenium posted a projected timeline of deaths, which he later "corrected" (to be incorrect) after someone else told him about the typo. It strikes me as a bit odd that he would miss just that line when reading the rules. And he jumped on the kill very quickly today - genuine confusion, or covering his tracks?- 268 replies

Quick Fix Game 31: <MISSING VARIABLE>
Bort replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Black IC waited for the node to load. At just over three milliseconds, it took forever, and when it did finally load, Black IC found itself standing in a castle. This was not as it should be. Best blend in until it found a way home. It quickly scanned local data streams, and adopted an appearance more like one of the Machineborn the data told him of. The data also mentioned Sophie, a foreign invader. Shadowrunners were foreign invaders. Perhaps this "Sophie" was it's prey in disguise. Time to hunt. I'll put a poke vote on Crimsnwolf. This is for no reason other than they have not posted yet. @Crimsn-Wolf? Also, heading to bed fairly soon, so might not get back to remove/alter my vote before rollover, but I'll try to get up early enough.- 268 replies

Don't worry about it, I'll get used to it pretty quickly No offence taken, but I would like to point out, I didn't choose Randuir to die. I will admit to being grateful to surviving though. We'll see how long it lasts- 1185 replies

Sorry Aman, but I had to warn people. Your utter reluctance to prove your role in our PM had, and still has, me worried. If I was going to die, then I was going to warn everyone. Maybe I wasn't subtle enough with the role info, but really, how could I be given the warning?- 1185 replies

It seems to me that using a kill pendant as a scan tool is similar to using a sledgehammer to remove a fly from one's nose. There is a remote chance you'll get lucky, but otherwise, it's likely to just be messy.- 1185 replies

Aman, the jeskeri pendant is a kill, not a defense. Also, we get two actions per cycle so you could do a scan and use the pendant. GM confirm this is true please?- 1185 replies

Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux
Bort replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, who else was I supposed to get him to scan? The point of the exercise was so he could prove he is a Priest. He can't do that unless he scans someone, can he? And I know of no-one else's alignment, so asking him to scan someone else kind of defeats the point. What holes are there in that logic? "Ah, Aman, you claim to be a Priest. Please scan Steeldancer for me, so I can know you are telling me the truth." - Will work, how exactly? Yes, it might be possible for him to guess when reading he'll get from me, but if he was reading you, and telling me, he could have just made something up, and I would have no way of checking. So... faulty logic, where?- 1185 replies

I kept trying to tell Aman, his read of me wasn't for him, it was for me, to prove that he is a Priest. I am the only person who I definitely know the alignment of, so I wanted him to confirm it back to me. Then I would know I could trust his scans. Makes sense, doesn't it?- 1185 replies

As has already been said, your grammar isn't great. I'm sorry to say this if English isn't your first language, but that could be what caused any misunderstanding. Your post said something like how I wouldn't know that Joe had done something like this before (something along those lines), almost immediately after you say he is honest. When you say he is honest, you mean he includes truth in his lies, Lightweaver style, to make them difficult to detect. True, but incomplete or misleading. I still think your logic for voting on me was just as flimsy as mine for voting for Joe, but yours was one in many placed on me, not the sole vote on someone. Edit: So, Aman, are you still on for scanning me tonight?- 1185 replies

I would say that his defense of me probably was forced. I had all but outed him in the main thread as a potential threat. And yes, Aman, I was saying I didn't believe you, but then you should have figured that one out by now, what with all my repeated requests for proof. I'd like to believe you, but it's Sanderson Elimination. Don't trust anyone without verification. @Kidpen It does that with me sometimes. Sometimes it deletes the entire post. Sometimes it only deletes part of it. I assume it has something to do with the site autosave. Also, for the record, Priest was the role Aman claimed to me in PM with him yesterday.- 1185 replies

I have a question for the forum moderators... How can you keep quotes and your text properly formatted when trying to copy/paste half posts into new windows so you can read new posts? Last night I lost half of a post trying to keep up with the thread, and it has just happened again. Arinian, after rereading the post in which you voted for me, you start off saying that you see my points, then you talk about how honest Joe is, then about how he has joked in the thread of earlier games about being in the eliminator doc. How is falsely claiming to be an eliminator 'being honest'? What happens in the game where Joe is an eliminator? Would it be 'honest' of him to 'joke' about it in the main thread then? This is what I was talking about yesterday about complacency. People keep making those jokes, then what happens when they are an eliminator? They crack the joke, and everyone just accepts it, because if it keeps happening, it is habit forming. Then you go on to talk about my flimsy reasons before voting for me. So, to recap, you agreed with my concerns, then you got all defensive about Joe while also being contradictory about him, then you vote for me. That is quite the change in a single post.- 1185 replies

They need 5 words when they become Hoed, so it would have to be "I, Am, We, Are, Groot," covering his entire script during the movie Edit: Trying not to double post again, so having to copy/paste this. From @Devotary of Spontaneity: Why are you so sure that the Monarch is Mraize? I'm not arguing with you, he may well be for all I know, but I'd like to hear your logic. Doesn't the Prince get control of the Monarch's double vote? Yes. Yes, it does... From the Monarch section in the rules doc: To me, this means the Monarch could be either Dalinar or Mraize, or neither of them and someone has used the passphrase to cast a secret vote.- 1185 replies

You definitely have my suspicions, for starting up the bandwagon on me. No, you weren't the first to vote for me, but my reasoning had already been explained by the time you posted your vote, and apparently completely ignored the posts I had already made explaining why I was voting the way I did. Your post was the one that opened the floodgates, and within minutes of you placing your vote, I had collected about half a dozen. Yes, you are overthinking it. I had suspicions about Amanuensis, but was giving him the chance to prove himself. When you came long and led a bunch of people into voting for me, I felt it best to put those suspicions out there, since I was going to die anyways, and would rather not see (potentially Eliminator) Aman using the same ploy on another Seon holder, so I warned them. Not that I expect you to believe this. On another note, tonight I opened communication with Elantris... Does anyone have anything they wish to say/ask?- 1185 replies

Daoate awoke. Wait, he awoke? But if this was the afterlife, it looked remarkably like the physical world. The water in his washbowl felt suspiciously like physical water, and not the spiritual type. Not that Daoate knew what spiritual water was like, but he imagined it would be different. Now dressed, he left the room where he had been saying his last prayers to Domi, having fully expected to be dead by now, and it slowly dawned on him that he was in fact still alive. This was emphasized by the smell of bacon coming from the palace kitchens. When he made his way into the main hall, he paused to check the minutes of the first day since the murder, to see what had actually happened. Names of people who had voted against him piled up, until someone stepped up to defend him, then the votes started trickling slowly away. Then the minutes stopped. No recording of who was actually lynched. Looking up, and counting through the people in the room, he worked out why. It was the Royal Archivist who had been killed, and as it turned out, he had been the one taking the minutes. It turned out he had been innocent, but then he had been one of the ones trying to seal Daoate's fate, so while there was regret, it was minimal. @Amanuensis - Still not entirely convinced you aren't an eliminator, but speaking out in my defense is appreciated. Thank you. If you are innocent, then I apologise for putting you in greater danger. Think how I feel. Last night I went to bed believing that everyone was trying to kill me. Today I come back, only to find that another died in my place. I must admit, I am a little disappointed at how I posted a time that I would be heading to bed, and most of the votes that were placed on me took place after that time. That just made the whole thing look even dodgier to me. Did people deliberately wait until I was off for the end of the cycle before voting for me? Or, at least, when I was supposed to be off. The only reason I wasn't was because I lost a load of the post I was working on so stayed up a little later to try to rescue it. In the time it took me to write that post, I believe I went from 2 to 6 or 7 votes. That's 4-5 people voting for me, within twenty minutes of the time I had announced as leaving for the night. Randuir, as much as I didn't want to die, I am sorry that you did. Out of those that did try to bandwagon me, I am most suspicious of Eternum ("I have suspicions about someone, but talking about them doesn't fit the narrative I am building against Bort, so I'm not going to"), followed by Araris (Eternum's 'second suspicion' conveniently joining in and adding that crucial fourth vote to push me into the kill zone). Also, he only retracted his vote on me once it became clear that I was not going to be lynched. Good eliminator tactic there. Slip in to jump start a bandwagon with a minimal post that said next to nothing, then when the bandwagon fails, removing their name from the list so they don't appear in the vote tally for the next cycle. Edit: @Kidpen - When you finally voted for me last night, it was because of a reply I had sent Pyro, saying it felt to you that it was me trying to say "I'm a villager, retract your votes." While, yes, there was a bit of that in there, it was more bitterness for the apparent bandwagon on me, right after the time I said I was going to bed, for pretty pointless reasons. I was trying to ensure that everyone had the chance to enjoy the game, so to punish me, a bunch of people tried to take away my enjoyment of the game.- 1185 replies

Long Game 44: Shadows of Elantris Redux

If my lynch proposal gets lynched, then so be it. I'd prefer to not be the one that starts a lynch mob since I freely accept that it is day one - no-one wants to die. But if it happens and someone dies, then it happens. Also, my suspicions? It's day one. I barely have suspicions. When I posted, I felt I should probably vote for one of the people I was talking about, but like I said, cycle one, no-one wants to die this early in the game, hence not wanting to start a bandwagon. As you and others have pointed out, it was based on flimsy logic to begin with, but it was a day one poke vote. Everyone's day one poke votes are based on flimsy logic, if based on logic at all. Basically, my defence for not wanting to kill someone off in cycle one is simple, I'm not a ... hmmm, how do I put this without upsetting the filter?... I am, rather, a decent sort of guy who wants to see people enjoy the game, and not just watch from the sidelines from the very beginning. Why is that such a bad thing? My vote on Kidpen was already explained, she had voted me into the danger zone, so I returned the favour. Both votes are retracted now. ... Lost a load of stuff I was typing in loading Arinian's post... Dammit. Basically the general idea was... Yes Araris, you're right, but who wants to be the one responsible for kicking a player out of a long game on cycle one? Killing people, and starting lynches on suspects is all great, but no-one has anything except the flimsiest of excuses for bandwagoning anyone on day one. But, not that it matters. The bandwagon has truly started. I was going to dump my vote on the inactive that seems to be gathering votes, if only to try to save my own skin, but that seems pointless now too. Since it seems I'm going to die anyways, here's a final word of warning before I head to bed. I am the owner of Seon Teo, and have been in contact with Amanuensis. He role claimed to me, but was extremely reluctant to give proof, which makes me doubt. This might be the real reason behind the sudden bandwagon on me - an attempt to get me out of the way before I reveal one of their own. He did eventually, after much persuading, agree to prove his claim, but if he can't, well, that would have been an eliminator outed on cycle 2. So, I could totally see the eliminators prodding at the vote to try to get more votes on someone that might be a threat. As for why I didn't bring up my thoughts on Aman earlier, I was giving him the chance to prove himself, but since it appears I will not be in a position to check the proof he offered, I felt I should share. To the other Seon holders in contact with him, demand proof, but be careful. Good night, I guess I'll see you all at the execution.- 1185 replies

Why Joe? Out of all of them he made the most 'points' of them all. It started as a joke vote because of the terrible pun, but then I realised that he was also in on the bad joke crowd, and that he was also involved in the discussion about not worrying about the Jeskeri. Everyone else on the list was only involved in one of those. That said, it is still the first cycle, and I would prefer not to see anyone lynched by my hand, so the final point was that I wanted someone who didn't yet have a vote. You and Kidpen forced me into doing something to help my chances of survival.- 1185 replies
