May I join as Vapor, a young woman who wants everyone to know that she is Blue-Blooded?

Edit: Flame on!

I'll join as Arlon Curm Heron, a Blue-Blooded Noble.

Vapor claimed Blue-Blooded a bit before you! Is there a specific concept you'd like to use instead?

Hmm, didn't realize that they were one-off concepts. In that case, I'll be an Old Guy. Each cycle, you must reference something that isn't as good as it was "back in my day". And to fit, I'll change my name to Ookla the Curmudgeonly (out of season, I know), the now ancient Lord Heron (see LG 50).

Hey

Lord Nahr Silberfarben at your service!

He has recently been caught up in the new noble fashion, playing mafia.

Wannabe GM

Each Cycle, he will mention one idea for a mafia game.

I feel like I should know this, and that I should've asked this earlier :P

What does 'blackout' mean?

In a blackout game, you're told absolutely nothing about the roles and extra rules it might have, beyond just "it's mafia" :P

We were told some things, so that's probably why Kasimir called this a "partial" blackout game. But it's fairly obvious there's a lot more here :P

Yeah, basically what Eternum said. Here's one - this was the first game I went through to get an idea about SE. Bard made everyone Tineye, and there were like 6 different types of Tineye, with most of them giving inaccurate results xD And no one knew it at the beginning.

@KasimirI've got a few questions.

What can we do in the first cycle? There's no kills or lynches. We aren't in any rooms, so we cannot search. Are we only voting for the rooms in the first cycle?
How does the voting for rooms work? Do we all move to the room with the highest number of votes, or do we move to the rooms we voted respectively?
Are there any actions we can perform other than searching?

Feel free to PAFO any or all of them if they are a part of the secret. :P

I would love to join this game but am unsure of whether I could balance it with the LG.

That's a fair apprehension, and have fun either way :) I'm not really about to push players for this game because I definitely had times when I over-committed and struggled as a player, or just had it eat more time than I could afford, with my studies. You do you, and you know what you can handle!

@Matrim's Dice What Eternum said, basically. There are some rules I'm not telling you. (Though some of the missing rules are easily guessable, just from what I've said.) There are some rules you do know upfront. So it's a blackout but a partial one.

Eh, good questions, I'll update the clarifications afterwards, but one at a time:

You can talk to each other :) You won't be in any rooms but that doesn't mean you can't search: in the known Order of Actions (#11), Rooms come before Searching in terms of priority, so at the end of Cycle One, assuming you send in a room vote, you can move into a room and Search it.

Voting for rooms will work like QF6, except I won't be enforcing a hard limit on how many people there are in a room. All people who voted for a specific room will generally (*mild PAFO here) go into the specific room.

I mean, if you're a Killer with the kill, you can kill instead. Or explain to your teammates in that one PM that yeah sorry, I chose to search instead of kill :P But okay, more seriously, PAFO.

Oh, what the heck. I’ll join as Sophia, a naturalist/forest ranger (Apothecary) from new serene who is obsessed with finding new and interesting plants. Is especially interested in a sample of some ferro viriditas that Talbot supposedly gathered.

I hope to be active but I do have finals and so might not be on quite as much.

Okay, two things :P

First, would you be okay with tweaking that concept a little? El's already signed up as the Apothecary - I'm happy to accommodate a naturalist/forest ranger type custom cosmetic role, if you can distinguish it a little. Otherwise, if you don't actually want to take on a cosmetic role and want to do your own RP, that's fine too.

Second, as I mentioned to Truthwatcher and kind of had what you said in mind: you know what you can handle best, and I'm not into the business of nudging players into games if they're uncertain, because RL is important! With that caveat in mind, it might be helpful to know that this game has been built with a few ways of managing activity, and to articulate/clarify my expectations as a GM:

A) Low activity is okay. We've all had those times. It would be nice to be able to write long engaged RP and analysis posts every other hour (ah, who can do that even :P ) but frankly, just be as active as your bandwidth allows and have fun. And some people's playstyles just work out that way. The inactivity filter isn't meant to punish people, it's just meant to prevent people who vanish and don't come back from slowing the pace of the game.

B ) That being said, if you really have activity issues or issues keeping up, please don't be afraid to check in with me and Fifth. I will hopefully have a few pinch-hitters (though I pray not to need them, but plan for it anyway), and the filter was never meant to be absolute and can be waived if the player communicates. RL really does happen to us all, and I'm not interesting in holding it against people.

C) If you feel the game is too much for you given your current load, you're also free to withdraw before it begins. There will be other games :)

Right, so after that long GM rambling, that's about it from me :P I am just concerned that I gave off the impression that I will Order 66 inactive or low activity people who do not write me long Sanderson-worthy RP posts, and I figure getting my expectations out might be helpful for people :P

Oh yes. I actually have a decent idea:

Every round I should have to mention a close run-in I had with a dangerous wild animal/plant.

I will join in as Watcher. Hmmm, I don't have any ideas for RP, can someone give one?

Uh...

Concerned Mother: Every round, mention a thing that your irresponsible teenage son did.

Kandra Lover: You are obsessed with Kandra and definitely do not have any sort of Kandra fetish. Every round, make sure you mention how cool Kandra are in a different way.

History Buff: you know everything about per-catacandre history, and will ramble off facts whenever possible. You must mention one Mistborn era 1 fact in your RP each term.

Those are just some ideas.

These are awesome! I will be a History Buff, a fellow classmate of Talbot Oswin at the university who helped him once.

@Ashbringer added to pinch-hitter list; @xinoehp512 let me know if you want me to add anything to your character and so on.

Worldhopper: You were not born on Scadrial. What are you doing at a small house party thrown by a minor (in the grand scheme of things) noble?! You blend in well enough, but you do make the occasional slip-up. Every cycle, you should drop at least one expression or turn of phrase that makes it evident you do not originate from Scadrial.

Works for you?

He found the envelope on his desk. it had been left by a passing contact, evidently his next mission assignment. It was an invitation to a party, scrawled on the page in red ink were the words, "Be careful, Keep your eyes open".
Now where is this party... Scadrial.
Storms? No that's not right... Rust, yes that was it.

Within minutes he had replied to the invitation and signed his name at the bottom -Thaill- it was not his real name but a commonly used name in his organization. The invitation had undoubtedly been meant for another member of the organization but had been given to him instead.

He grabbed his hat from the rack above the door and slipped a magnifying glass into the pocket of his trench coat as he walked out of the door and headed for railway station.
