"Sweet. Let's go order some people around." Andante laughed.

The fools want to play, very well. Sensing the attack from behind and seeing the attack before me I summon supernatural speed leap into the air and ascend on mighty gusts of wind. Magnificent forks of lightning crash into the Fox and Psyder at the same time. Light shatters and bends around me. I vanish from sight. Icy storm winds howl as a predator seeking flesh and race across the land.

Psyder vanishes in a warping of shadow as he teleports into Nath's bubble, knife swinging.

The fox roars in anger as its quarry disappears.

Herate wasn't sure which side to take in this fight. On the one hand, she had made a promise to Psyder, but she couldn't attack Nath!

"Maybe the skilled soldiers?"

Chrysler walked back into camp a while ago and dismissed her soldiers. She saw her ward go down and groaned for all the effort gone in an instant. But she'd be useless for a while without dust. She found the buckets of ash and starting, slowly, ponderously, doing the ritual to give the dust power. She vaguely heard Andante and Ayia's conversation, but she was too tired to speak up right now.

Quick question; has Herate recognized her former soldiers among the Myrkaal?

Not yet.

"Why Chrysler? She looks tired enough as it is!"

Seriously, can you? Do you remember any small-timey Sharders who popped on with a cool character, but got their posts drowned out by Queedran and Foxrangking?

Salad? Emi? Or an entirely new person? We could even go harass T and Ember.

Martin sounds great!

I cannot believe myself. Just this morning I was thinking about Martin and yet I completely forgot him! Sorry.

Hiiri walked back into camp. She was invisible, of course. That was her natural state these days. She just felt left out. The others went to... save worlds and stuff, but she was sent to help this group who very obviously did not need helping? It was just what she got for being so timid.

My grin does not break as I watch Pyder throw a pathetic little dagger my way. I wait still as the dagger flies. At the very moment that the blade would have run me through I vanish in a blur. The blade strikes empty air as I stand feet away. Heat flees from around the knife and it shatters in an explosion of metal shards. Rage continues to flow through me. When I speak the winds take my words to the Fox alone. "Fool. If you wish to be enslaved or killed so be it. When you are taken remember that I gave you a chance to live free from the slavers of this realm."

Cercestran walks up beside Fox. "Nath's temper has always gotten the better of him. You could join him if you wish. I suspect that he traveled on a beam of light. He would have left a way for you to follow. Wherever he is trouble likely follows." Circestran begins to glow. Dangerously curved daggers that seem to part reality appear in her hands. Her wings spread out.

I really need to learn that trick, Fox thought. Well, if Circe gave her permission to chase Nath, it was good enough for her. She grinned, her feelings a bit reinforced. She would protect this one, though as she thought it, she felt a twinge of humor. Who would really be the one needing protection? “So where do we start?” She asked Circe.

A true opponent finally! Something reasonable stirs within me, but it falls away as concentrated destruction rushes through my veins. As Psyder appears and swings his knife I issue a silent command to the winds holding me aloft. The winds holding me up quiet and my body drops in a flash. The blades in my hands lash out and strike at Psyders legs as I fly by. Violent bursts of wind carry me away from Psyder. A surge of heat rises through me warping the air around me. A storm of blazing power surrounds me on all sides. I direct shower after shower of jagged hail at Psyder.

"First you will need a weapon or weapons to defend yourself. Call knives from your mindscape."

Psyder's mordite blade sinks into Nath's chest, narrowly missing his heart. Nath's strikes rake his torso with gashes, and hail crashes against him. He warps away as his wounds begin to heal.

Ember wavers for a moment. I could tell her the truth. I could tell her I heard Fadran say it earlier, and I did.

"Well?"

"We need to talk. But first, I think you need some sleep. You've been out here all night."

They hear what sounds like a slightly heated conversation, and Ember rushes towards it.

"We're not done," she calls after him. Oh, Ember.

"Queen! You're back!" calls Ember after he glimpses her. "What's going on?"

Kaia had wanted to be left alone.

But what she wanted didn't matter.

It had never mattered in the past, and didn't matter now.

Slowly, carefully, Kaia twisted and poked her head out from the small hollow in the ground. She made sure to keep her darkness tight around herself, obscuring her from the view of anyone who happened to be watching. However, no one seemed to be watching her. But the people did seem like they had better things to do than to talk to the likes of her. Small, afraid, and hiding using the very power she was despised for possessing.

Kaia watched. She could hardly make sense of anything that was happening. It was... Odd. Nothing like she was accustomed to seeing back at home.

A thought struck her. A thought that was dark and rebellious. They're like me.

They had magic of some sort. Magic that wasn't from this cursed planet. Magic like Kaia's own.

She didn't understand what she was seeing, but as more people joined the group, she knew she had to do something before they all left. Maybe they could take her away.

Or maybe they would kill her for interrupting them.

It was worth the risk.

But still, Kaia was afraid. Trembling, she tucked her head back into the small hollow, trying to make herself as small as possible. She took deep, trembling breaths, trying to summon the courage necessary to confront those people and... whatever else was with them.

Now.

She stood, pushing away enough of her darkness for her features to be visible, and leaving the rest only for the comfort it provided. Walking towards the group on trembling legs, Kaia had to force herself not to draw any more darkness towards herself. She had to let them see her. If she approached them as a shadow, they wouldn't recognize her for what she was: a small and defenseless human.

When Queen and Fadran head into the tent, and then the forest, Ember pauses. It makes sense that they'd do that. They are... a thing, I guess. But there goes my diversionary tactic. After a moment, he turns around. "Let's get you to a healers' tent." I'm not sure where we're going next. Where I'm going? Either way, if Tawny's coming, you'll... I'll... we'll need to be ready.

Ember rushes towards Queen and Fadran, T watches him, then loses herself in her thoughts. What just happened? I was chasing Ember... what I assumed was a person into the woods. This is my own fault, isn't it. Except how did Ember find me? Was it him? She stood still, staring into space, thoughts whirling. She shifts onto her right foot, then winces. How did I forget that? ... He found me. He helped, well, Hiiri helped me back. He's done things like that before. He spoke. "Wa-wa-wait oh. That would be wise. Do you know where it is? I'm not sure I should walk on this ankle anymore."

E: He walks towards her as she flusters, noticing a strand of hair that has fallen out of her braid. "Oh, I think I know where it is."

T: "Wait, you saw that? You saw that. Was it you?" It was him?

E: "Yes. That was me you were chasing." I should ask first. "May I--?" He arrives at her side and goes to reach under her arm.

T: She pulled away as he reached under her shoulder. What? What!?! "Why were you running away from me?"

E: Guess not. "Can I tell you on the way?" I really don't want to talk about this...

T: No. "I guess." She swings around, then realizes she still doesn't know where the healers are. Should I trust you? Can you be trusted?

E: He exhales briefly, almost a laugh. "It's this way, I think. Will you let me help you there? Please? You've been limping pretty badly." And it's my fault.

T: "No, I want you to focus on talking." I'm not sure what to even think. I trust...ed you. I want to hear your reasons now.

Ember started walking towards the center of camp. He remained silent for a moment, thinking. She needs to know.

T followed him, wincing with each step. "Well?"

E: "There's two ways I heard your name. The second was when the blue holed said it."

T: She shivers slightly at the memory of the holed, the mental domination, and lastly, the start of it. Tawny. Unknowingly, she stops.

E: "And the first--." He pauses when he notices that she fell behind. "Coming?"

T: Shaking herself out of the memories, she jumps forward a few times to catch up to him. "Yes. And the first?"

E: "My master, no, teacher, told me to find Tara. ... I think she means you ill."

T: She glances forward at him, drawing her attention from the ground, wearing his typical clothes without armor, and sees the cloth hanging under his arms, just as was on her gray clothing. "Your... teacher." She feels as though a stone were sitting in her stomach. "What is her name?" She dreads and anticipates the answer.

Ember turns, looking her in the eye, and sees her head drop slightly. "Tawny." When it drops further, he steps towards her, then hits the field she puts up.

T: "No. No! What?! You're here for her?! I...I..." She catches a glimpse of his movement and throws a field in front of him, then sinks to her knees, heedless of the pain in her ankle. She...she...he... No. How.

Ember feels her "No," inadvertently broadcast to anyone within hearing.

At that moment, Ayia waves. "Get. Him. Away. From. Me."

No, I have not. I wasn't aware of what was going on at the camp at that time, but I don't think what's going on with everyone else would be a good place for me to hop in. If you ignore some of the details in my first post we could say that I am around the area of the camp instead. Would that work?

"He...he... he's working for someone chasing me. She ... just...no." T recognizes the pain in her ankle and adjusts, wincing. When did I sit down?

Ember dejectedly says, "It's hard to explain. At least, it'll take a while." He turns and starts walking to the edges of the camp again, retracing their steps. How did it change so quickly? ... No, I changed, at least in her eyes.

Sure, just a minute. (By which I mean the minute(s) where I'm writing this :P)

(Also, by the way, I've found I do have to ensure I'm posting to stay involved, this is a bit of a big group, although we try to bring people in.)

Herate is one of the generals.

As he approaches the last row of tents, Ember, his head hung, sees a girl, wrapped in shadow. "Hello? Who are you? Are you one of Herate's soldiers?"
