Origin of your profile picture

Hey!

So I was looking through the 'origin of your username' thread and I saw how usernames were a sign of someone's uniqueness on the Shard. Then I realised profile pictures were too, and so I created this thread.

• Why do you have your certain profile picture?
• Where did it originate from?

Personally, it started for me when I wanted to have a cool profile picture on the Shard, and I wanted it to match perfectly with the circular frame. So I searched up black holes, since I thought they would be interesting, but the majority of pictures I could find for some reason didn't work when I tried to make them my profile picture. And then I came across what is my profile picture now, I don't know what it was, or how it was related to a black hole, but it seemed to have the perfect amount of simplicity and coolness for me, so I tried to make it my profile picture and it worked!

I just kind of wanted something nerdy and bookish so I google searched “stack of books” and found the one I liked best.

Fun story with this one. I didn't really have any ideas, so I switched around a lot when I joined. But then, I made the Liebrarians, so I grabbed the most stereotypical librarian I could find. Later, in a DA convo, we all started getting mustaches on our pics, and mine stuck.

I get questions about this one a lot. 

I had a group of friends who threw some pretty massive house parties (3-400 people in, over the course of the night) 5 times a year on various holidays, and I was considered "staff" for these parties. 

One of the guys made fliers of the face of the 8 "staff members" who either lived there or well... Basically lived there.

A few years back I made a bunch of Mistborn themed Valentines Day cards, and this was a picture I made for one of them. I took a picture of Frank Sinatra and traced and colored it, adding the eye spikes and tattoos. This was not long after I joined the Shard, so I made it my profile picture. I've considered changing it a couple times, but never have, mostly because its the profile picture that people recognize me by. 

On a few other sites I use this one: 

Partially because I like Snoopy and partially because little Woodstock there fits my username so well. 

If/when I ever do change my profile pic, it will probably be to the picture of me as a shardbearer that I ordered through the Kaladin soundtrack kickstarter:

In all actuality, those are some pretty good Valentine's Day cards. Now all I need is a person.

When I took the name Toaster Retribution, I figured I’d need a unique avatar that fit the magnificence of the name... so I snapped a pic of the toaster at home.

Mine is a slice of the Mandelbrot set, a mathematical function related to the Julia set, a slice of which the continent of Roshar was based on. Or something similar, I'm no mathemage. Mainly fractals are rad.

I found my picture on pinterest. I was looking for Drageon Age related pins, and stumbled upon it. In Dragon Age Inquisition there tarot cards for each charater and I liked the way people designed their own cards, so I pinned some of them, including the picture I used here. It reminded me of one of my pen and paper characers (a witch called Sheirren focused on spells that evolve about seeing/ mind reading/ discovering). When I looked for an avatar for the forum I first had something Mass Effect themed, but then decided that this one would be better, as it is more general than the typical N7 brand or a picture of Shepard. And as it is based on the tarot cards in Dragon Age and Dragon Age and Mass Effect are related and I am a big fan of both settings, I decided to use it.

Mine is a Stigma from the Kiseki/Trails series of JRPGs by Nihon Falcom. They kind of look like the glyphs of the Knights Radiant orders (and in-universe are associated with their own knights with special powers) so I thought it would be a fun one to use.

Mine is my face. I thought it would work. Regretting it now. It’s actually my senior yearbook photo. About the only photo of me that doesn’t make me wanna go inquisitor and spike my eyes out.

With that grin, some eye spikes would be pretty disturbing.

That’s me with every single picture. I’m like “okay, I look good, you can take my picture,” and then I turn out looking like 

 

Anyway, I got my profile picture from taking a larger picture in the Stormlight Archive art and cutting out a small portion of it.
