Day Eight: Destruction

Lord Pifferluke the Third held his aluminum war-hammer casually, whistling a simple tune as he walked. He’d carried this thing around for almost a week, and while it wasn’t exactly heavy, it was nice to be able to put his burden to actual use. His target wasn’t far. A claimed pewter ferring, but still no match for the Hazecrusher’s might.

Acer was sleeping when Pifferluke found him. Aw, this is too easy. He kicked Acer in the ribs, giving him a rude awakening. The other man instantly tapped enough strength to look more like a mountain than a man. Better. Pifferluke jumped backwards, swinging the Hazecrusher. It connected solidly with the Brute’s head, leaving a sizeable indentation. Acer staggered for a moment, then collapsed and went still.

After wiping the Hazecrusher off on Acer’s shirt, Pifferluke started searching for spikes. Nada. Rust. I just killed a man for nothing.

Unfortunately, Pifferluke didn’t get much time to ruminate upon his breach of morality. The groan of wooden support columns was his only warning before everything went black.

----------------------------------

As the rumbling faded, a pair of figures staggered out from the Town Square’s wreckage, barely conscious. Kirrah and Ostrich were the only survivors.

--------------------------

Bortington was hiding. He felt like a coward, but what was he supposed to do? He’d seen and heard the destruction the spiked had wreaked in the square. He most definitely didn’t want to be next.

Of course, hiding meant finding somewhere out of the way. Somewhere dark. So dark, in fact, that he didn’t even see the spike that plunged into his chest.

----------------------------

A killer stalked through the tunnels, looking for a suitable target. Someone stood alone in one of the rooms, intense concentration written on their face.

Works for me. Let’s level the playing field a little, shall we?

Raising a crude metal spike, the hemalurgist plunged it towards their victim. As soon as they did so, it leapt out of their hands, embedding itself harmlessly into the wall. Rust.

“Good try, but not good enough.” The would-be victim tore the spike out of the wall, brandishing it at their attacker. “How about a taste of your own medicine?”

The would-be murderer fled off into the night, sprinting as fast as their legs would take them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oof! You know, maybe one of the people in the trusted group should have revealed that Meta's scan showed somebody storing iron in the middle room. But oh well. I'm going to vote for Twelfthrootoftwo for general suspicious activity regarding the lynch over the first couple of days. I'm not going to go back through the thread right now and find them, but anybody can go and see.

(Just a thought, I'm not too great with forums and such, but would it be possible to edit links to the start of each day into the original post?)

Also, I would like to call out Spencer for similar suspicious behavior. The reason for my vote going on Twelfth is because Spencer is newer and that sort of activity may just be part of figuring everything out. But he is my second best guess, without any role type information.

Edit: Actually, I am even more interested in Twelfth now. He/she didn't show up at all in Meta's scan, which comes as a result of storing iron, and the scan indicated that the iron was hemalurgic. Just missed the name. Sorry. And you can show up even when storing Feruchemical iron if the tin scan is enhanced.

Edit 2: Sorry for all of this, but I keep seeing new things. So this scan was done by a Kandra(Feligon) more recently than Meta's was, and should give a good indication of who was the Feruchemical iron person:

B2: Faliu, Ostrich, Pifferluke, Kwon, Acer, Jaelre, Kirrah, Haelbarde

Kirrah(Twelfth) and Jaelre are in italics because they either moved into or out of the room during the scan. So it seems like we have a couple other people that are candidates for spikiness, although this scan didn't happen last night so it won't be completely accurate

Jain had thought the previous night was as tiring as it could get. The morning had promptly come and slapped him across the cute and cuddly panda cheeks for thinking so. Five more crude headstones (Jain still hadn't mastered the finer details of headstone carving) had joined the ranks, and two of them had been his brethren. Poor FarDoom and Rheeblaad. Rheeblaad had just been promoted from a Mistwraith, too.

Mother of God! With the center destroyed, this game just got a heck of a lot trickier.

Araris, Spencer wasn't in the room for Meta's sweep, so he can't have been the hemalurgic Feruchemical iron.

Also, many condolences to Haelbarde, who died a turn after he was born, before many people even knew he was playing the game.

I realize that. But with 30 people, it is likely that we had 6 spiked. I'm assuming that there could be more than one left. Otherwise, Acer is probably our best bet.

I don't have a lot of time right now. I wanted to do up an entire RP about how Malrick is distraught with the loss (at least temporarily) of the Alehouse, but for now, I'll just give you guys the basics.

Kirrah was the one to pull the roof down on everyone. Ostrich was scanned by Vine and we know Vine was good, so Kirrah is the only other person left! On top of that, she lied to Ella about what powers she had and the only reason to do that is if you have a reason to want to hide your powers. And finally, one of my Bronze scans pulled up hemalurgic Feruchemical iron, so this was likely a Spiked attack. Ella and I were trying to figure out where it was coming from when the ceiling fell in and solved that mystery for us.

I was also attacked last night (I was the "somebody"). If today doesn't finish off the game, we have only a few people left that haven't been checked out and there shouldn't be more than one or two more Spiked; at least that would be my guess!

EDIT: Araris, Acer was in B2 last night. They're dead and thus proven to be good.

Iron. I used Iron to protect myself. Since Iron can be used to protect others (and you don't want to be revealing who your Iron Protector is when they save someone), the name of the person doesn't show up.

Posted (edited)

Nope; try again. I know for a fact that your name shows up if you protect yourself with iron. That may be why you didn't die, but not why you're listed as 'Someone'. So what else could it be? I know you're not a Trueself.

Also, how do you know Kirrah lied about her powers?

That's the only reason I know because it's the one given to me by the GMs. So unless you want to argue with them about it, I don't have a better reason.

Are you calling Ella a liar as well now? After she was scanned by Vine and is thus a confirmed villager? What would be the benefit of her giving me a false list of those that had claimed to her? To get villagers killed? Do you see why I don't find that to be very likely?

Do you have another explanation for last night's activities?

Posted

Wonko, both other times someone was attacked when they were protected by iron, they were referred to as "someone".

We know Kirrah has Feruchemical iron by process of elimination. On night 6, Hemalurgic Feruchemical iron was observed in B2. The only people who were in B2 when the Feruchemical iron was present were Vine, Alvron, Splinter, Sart, Wonko, and Twei. Most of these are dead now. Unless you lied about your powers, the only one left is Twei. In addition, Twei was one of the ones who was in B2 when the Feruchemical iron attack came, and unless you were the someone who was attacked, you were not. Twei must have Hemalurgic Feruchemical iron. She claimed something else, so she lied about her powers.

Before last night we had the Feruchemical iron narrowed down to Acer and Kirrah, but Acer's death just showed which one it was. I had hoped there wasn't enough stored yet for an attack, and I'm sad so many died. At least we've found another Spiked now. Kirrah.

Man, the one time you actually want survivors. :P  No point contesting this. Happy lynching!

Some conspiracy fun: (I may or may not have been planning this in the middle of a three hour exam  )

In writing this post, I call for a serious investigation of the hypothesis that room B2 was brought down, not just by damage and rafter collapse, but through the use of pre-planned alomancy. I consider eyewitness reports that rafter collapse alone caused complete destruction of the cavern. And I present evidence for the planned-allomancy hypothesis, which is suggested by the available data, testable and falsifiable, and yet has not been analysed in any of the previous discussions on the topic.

I ask you to take a minute to recall eyewitness reports of the collapse. What was observed?

Symmetry: did the cavern collapse centre first (falling inwards) – or did it all come down at once?

Debris jets: Did you observe debris coming out of the tunnels?

My reasons for advancing the planned-allomancy hypothesis while challenging the ‘official’ rafter collapse hypothesis are:

1)      As was observed, B2 collapsed rapidly and evenly – even though rafter damage would have been localised at the centre of the cavern. There were twenty-four huge wooden support columns inside B2 as well as huge trusses, arranged asymmetrically, along with approximately 57 perimeter columns. An even collapse, as observed, requires the simultaneous “Pulling” of most or all of the support columns. Arguments to symmetry imply that the likelihood of completely even collapse due to localised forces as in the ‘official’ theory is small, since centre-out failure is so much more likely.

2)      No such stone-arch building had ever before (or since) completely collapsed due to compression forces! However, such collapses have occurred before – all of them due to lateral or tensile forces. Cavern supports are designed to withstand intense downward pressures, exactly as would have been applied by the ‘official’ Feruchemical iron tapping. However, Allomantic iron and Allomantic steel can readily collapse arches (thus destroying the cavern supports simultaneously in allomantic demolition) and apply the tensile and lateral forces required.

3)      Horizontal jets of debris are observed emerging from B2 tunnels, just as the cavern starts to collapse. The cavern ceiling has not begun to fall yet, so expulsion due to the collapse is excluded. However, the presence of such ‘shots’ proceeding away from the user is common when large-scale Steelpushing is performed. The presence of non-inert metal on all debris is also necessary. Thus, metallic debris as observed during the collapse of B2 provide additional significant evidence for the use of pre-planned Allomancy.

Now, although uniformly ignored by the mainstream thread discussion, there is abundant and clear evidence that at least one use of powers indicated specific foreknowledge of the collapse of B2. In the case of this power, the player in question was – and to my knowledge still is – a key player in the Twinborn team.

The writeup documents the use of Allomantic iron on “someone”. Malrick A’Lees has claimed to have protected himself this way. For a self-proclaimed Mistborn with the ability to discover the people and powers in every room, taking such an action implies foreknowledge of the collapse. He also claims to have used Allomantic atium in the previous cycle, making it impossible for him to have found out via legitimate means. Hence his Iron use must be an act of insider trading.

While the benefit to Mr. A’Lees is unknown, it is certain that he was aware of the collapse and took measures to minimise his own loss. He was also the only occupant of B2 with the ability to trigger the collapse as observed.

In conclusion, Meta, how could you :(

The wood in the columns couldn't be pulled or pushed! It must have been an inside job! :P

That was brilliant, Twei. On the bright side, we basically had it narrowed down to you, Dow, or Sart (and if there's still another Spiked out there, my first guess is Dow), so at least this way, you get to go out after probably killing the most people within a single turn! If the game doesn't end, maybe there will be 72 virgins waiting for you in the Dead Doc!

With that kind of deductive skills we can't let Kirrah live. Who knows what other secrets will be uncovered.

I am going to put my vote on Kirrah.  From what everyone else has posted Kirrah seems like the most likely suspect.

On another note, Meta why do you think I am spiked?  :(

Honestly, Luckat and I wound up going every piece of information we have from scans, to what people have told us, to actions in thread, and so on before last night ended. We figured that if she or I died, it would be a good idea if someone else had the information as well.

From all that information, we had at least soft confirms on everyone except for Sart, Twei, and yourself. We knew either Sart or Twei had to be the Hemalurgic Iron. Well, Sart died and thus gave us confirmation on him (thanks Sart! :P ) and when he showed up good, we knew Twei had to be Spiked. As such, you're the last on our list out of everyone that we don't have at least a soft confirm on. If you're not Spiked, we've either won or we'd have to start looking at people who have soft confirms (things that have the ability to be countered, like someone bypassing the use of enhanced Rioting/Soothing due to an Aluminum Hat). But since we don't have anything on you, you'd obviously be the first person we'd want to check. If it's not game over, would you submit to being scanned tonight?

Posted

@luckat: Wow. You're absolutely right. Why did I think otherwise? Seriously, why?

I agree that Kirrah is the best choice for lynch, assuming accurate scan data.

Yeah... Could we at least get a progress report? I'm a little weirded out by the silence. What's going on, guys?

The game is over, you guys (the villagers) have won, (congratulations, by the way :)) and Newan's just working on the final write up. (Figured it should be left to him, as this is his game.) It's just taken a little longer than expected. (Like everything in this game so far.)

(Sorry, meant to get to this earlier, but I was at school when I saw it, and forgot when I arrived home.)
