    From what I recall, many SEers had sigs that had the score count, plus at least one image, maybe some quotes, etc. They were obnoxiously large sigs and stood out in a not-great way. I think if the sigs had been just the score count, things might be different, though I think then there would've been issues with competitiveness, as Eric noted. This was like 10-11 years ago so I may be missing something, but that's what I remember.

    I have made updates to the Rules & Etiquette thread - specifically the Player Etiquette post - to highlight the harassment policy. I've also re-done the server rules so they are current and include a section on harassment reporting. Please let me know if, when reading those updates, something is still missing.

    I and the other subforum moderators are paying attention to this thread. We haven't directly started discussing it as a group yet, but we are watching and will be using many, if not all of the suggestions that have been brought up here. Also, I would be very interested in talking further with you @Biplet about your expertise with this subject. Other things, briefly: I've opened a discussion up to the server mod team, and one of the things we're talking about is using a bot in the server for user-reports, so any reports made through the bot go directly to the whole mod team and won't get lost/dismissed. I also plan to make the changes suggested to the Rules thread and will be updating the server rules as well, since they are *very* outdated.

    I've spent the majority of today (RIP work) reading back over the 2021 report Rae has referenced, summarizing it for the Shard staff, and bringing it up to them for discussion. There is nothing I can say to defend 2021 Wilson's actions in not taking this report seriously, but 2025 Wilson is truly sorry for how this was handled, @Arraenae. I'm sorry. I know that's a pittance and 4 years too late, but I apologize. This has laid bare the fact that training for these types of situations was and is abysmal for the server moderators. It probably didn't help that for a long time, we were trying to keep the server separate from the forum. Now that we're trying to re-integrate the server with the forum community officially, I'm hoping we can take this as a learning experience, and implement training among the server moderators so they know what to do if anyone comes to them privately about a similar report. I hope no one else slipped through the cracks, but I honestly don't know if other moderators had private reports that didn't make it to the general modchat. We'll do better going forward. In that vein and with that mission: do you Rae, or anyone else, have any suggestions on how we can better improve compliance with the Shard's policy?

    I don't think Gears was actively playing in a game when everything with them unfolded, so I didn't have to work with any IM or GM on what to do. If they were in a game....um. Sorry to the GM and IM for not discussing with you? Assuming I'm right, and they weren't playing, if they had been in a game, there was time enough while the staff was "sleuthing" to keep the IM and GM in the loop and determine how best to proceed in light of the imminent ban. That's actually the case for most bannable-offense situations - there would be time to work with the GM/IM before the ban ultimately happens, even if it's just a day or two. Even when someone has broken the rules egregiously enough to warrant a ban and it's obvious to all the staff that the person should be banned, we still like to PM or DM the offender to discuss the offense privately. In some rare cases, if the offender is suitably chastened and promises to never ever do anything like it again, they might not be banned, but more akin to "on probation." But like I said, that's rare for the really egregious offenses. For example, in Gears' case, it wouldn't have mattered what they said in a PM - they were getting banned regardless. But Eric/Chaos still PMed them, and the staff also thoroughly discussed that entire situation. Ultimately, if the offender ever happened to be actively playing a game at the time of the report and a ban was determined to be the best way forward, the 17th Shard staff (or more likely, me specifically) would work with the GM and the IM, but the game would not affect the staff decision nor would it control the timing of a ban. Also, since this question wasn't answered: The report should be mentioned in the SE Admin channel on the server, which I and several other 17th Shard staff have access to. Whichever staffer noticed the report first would take it to the 17th Shard staff in the other server to discuss there.

    For both general harassment and sexual harassment, we refer to the 17th Shard Code of Conduct, specifically the post about harassment. This post also covers harassment that takes place off of the Shard and Discord. Reports of this nature should go to a 17th Shard moderator or admin, as further discussion will happen among the site staff and not the subforum moderation team. The fact that the harassment is game-related does not change this. Harassment of any kind for any reason will not be tolerated. If you are being harassed off-site and off-Discord, but still online, please take screenshots of the harassment to provide with your report. This will help the Shard staff determine the best course of action. If a ban is decided, the ban will reflect on not only the 17th Shard and the main discord server but also the SE server as well. The point at which something becomes a bannable offense can vary, but again that is a discussion and decision that will happen among the Shard staff. I have to go to work so don't have time to answer the other two right now, but these three were more critical. If someone else wants to tackle the other two questions, please do. If not, I'll get to them when I have time (probably won't be today).

    Hello, fellow Sanderfans! I'm Kendra, and I've been a Sanderfan since the pre-17th Shard shadowdays, back in 2008. While usually a lurker on the main Shard Discord server, I'm a little more active in the Sanderson Elimination (think mafia in Sanderson settings) side of the forums and on that Discord server. You can also find me at any Dragonsteel convention, manning the 17th Shard booth with @firstRainbowRose. In my free time, I like D&D, reading, genealogy, traveling, writing, and whatever my current ADHD-fueled obsession is. Can be bribed with chocolate, especially of the Nutella variety.

Everyone should have received a PM by now. We will be adjusting the DP Punishment threshold this turn, adding in a tier for 3-4 DP and shifting the percentages up a tier.     The game will officially start in a little less than 24 hours. El is touching up some stuff on the site and while we don't need the site to start, it would be nice to get the player spreadsheets and everything sent out in the initial GM PM. Additionally, we haven't received submissions from all the players yet, so for anyone who hasn't sent something in, you've got a 24 hour (ish) reprieve to throw something together! Please get those in before the game starts, as once the first day goes up, there's no changing your base stats.
