  1. That's fair, I probably could have waited but I have always been a coward. I didn't know that my research was going to end the game though, there had been turns where no new commands were researched so I didn't know if I would have to do both researches to end the game. I could've not researched and risked it but I had already lived longer than expected when everybody knew I had a kill and I was expecting to be a target for the execution next turn (and I didn't trust stick fully which was probably unfair of me). Long story short I'm making excuses for being a bad friend and I should have waited. Some other random thoughts It's always tough to balance a faction game and the cowardly elites make it so much harder. The addition of Araris made the cult win condition so much easier but you can't really make all the factions win cons based on the chance that a CE joins. So all in all I think the balance was done quite well. (from the dead doc: I was not trying to gloat when messaging stick and JNV last cycle. I was hoping that if they combined their breath that day and the Archer breaths would pass to the right player it would be enough to get them the breath they needed. If I just told them that there's a good chance the cult would end the game then they could try and move the lynch. I didn't have all the information to know that the win was guaranteed like people watching did) Thanks for all the help kas, (even if you claim not to know how to play faction games) it was fun while it lasted!
  2. Thanks for running the game Steeldancer and Devotary! It was fun! I'd like to apologize to the adjuncts. As soon as Araris joined the cult the endgame started coming along much faster than I thought possible. I was worried that Stick was actually the infiltrator not Archer and that things would go poorly for the cult in the next night. I guess I was just paranoid.
  3. Yes, I am a cultist but not a serial killer. The cultist win condition is much more forgiving than the infiltrators and I've been working to make sure as many of the factions can win together as possible. Sorry for being quiet in the thread. I feel like most of the games been playing out in PMs so I've been focusing on that. I'm happy with getting rid of the infiltrators but I won't add my vote to Archer unless I have to. There are others who need the breath more than I do
  4. Well it looks like the lynch is pretty decided. I'll vote for Young Bard for the chance for some free breath
  5. TUN Voting for self proclaimed eliminators always seems like a safe bet to me. This kind of bandwagon doesn't really give much new information but this game doesn't really seem like we are learning stuff in the thread based off voting patterns. Instead people are just straight up telling everything about themselves
  6. Wow, looks like I missed a lot at the end of last cycle. Sorry I wasn't too active I shouldn't drop off for two days anymore in this game. So Mat is claiming that the followers of edgli are purely defensive and have no contradictory win conditions with any of the known factions? It seems like it could be reasonable. I have no idea what the distribution of roles is like. If all 5 scholars are in the game and other returned then that's a lot of people available for them to complete the win condition. I would think that at least their would have to be something else to it then. Unless one of the other secret factions win conditions is to kill all returned and they have a night kill. But like, I think Kas, said, there's easy ways around that with the double lives and protection action Mat mentioned having a history of making claims in some other games. I wasn't in those games so can someone who was around for that maybe summarize/ give a bit more info about how these claims went? Were they lies to cover being an elim or what?
  7. OOG stuff currently half of my country is without internet or even cell service so it's tough getting to be too active in this game. Hopefully it will comeback soon but I'll be basically off the radar till it does. As for in game stuff I'm unsure of how exactly to go forwards in a game like this still. It's tough to tell what's someone playing as an eliminator vs just a different faction than you let alone with the three secret factions. What is your reasoning for why you think it is only the cult and edgli groups that could be single player factions and not the the adjuncts of scholars? Both "The Adjuncts of the Scholars" and "The Followers of Edgli" are written as if they are a group and not an individual. As for "The Cult of Colors", a cult with only one person in it isn't a cult, I'm pretty sure it's just a delusion at that point. Unless you have some specific knowledge that might tell you this then I'm interested in where this came from.
  8. So my conspiracy theory about you was correct then!
  9. Well... That went horribly. Good game everyone! It was a fun way to get back into the game even if it was super quick. Thanks for running things Xino! I'll have more thoughts later when I get home form work
  10. vote=Stick I do think sticks been acting weird and I can't figure out what the plan is. It does seem like sticks trying to save mat, but mat has a vote on stick? Maybe something will change if they are tied in votes
  11. Only one of the people on your elim list could even afford to try and buy the bodyguard though. Don't worry I'll be changing my vote. I still haven't decided who to go for yet so you might still be disappointed. I am almost thinking that this whole "I'm definitely assassinating someone" thing is a ploy to try and get the elims to kill you when your actually going to spend all your boxings on the bodyguard instead. But honestly that sounds a bit convoluted It is a bit weird of stick, but if I remember correctly (which I probably don't) doing weird stuff was always kinda sticks gameplay style regardless of alignment. I do think it was odd to move the vote off of me so quick. Maybe nobody has me as their number one target but I think more people have thought I was leaning elim than village and maybe could've been conviced to vote for me. It does seem like sticks trying to get mat out of execution territory though
  12. Looks like there's nothing weird about TUNs activity that makes me less suspicious than before. I'm not new, I'm just very old so I seem new to everyone but Stick. So Sticks POE didn't technically only have new people on it. I'm pretty sure saying who you think is an elim while also saying that you plan to assassinate someone is very close to actually suggesting kill targets in the thread. But it's possibly also just a ploy to try and get people to spend money on the bodyguard while also stopping anyone from trying to buy the assassin. Seems like everybody is confirming that this type of activity is normal for TUN, I'm still getting more elim rather than villager vibes from TUN but that does make it less so. I might change my vote in a bit once I go through everything to make a full reads list. I think Devo being comfortable without doing any voting manipulation is slightly more elim feeling than villager, If you know that the person with more votes than you is a villager and they didn't have enough boxing to buy a bribe then you wouldn't have to worry about a teammate of theirs bribing the vote against you. Yeah, most of my posts were rule/mechanic and strategy based early. I find that's the easiest way to get into discussion because there's not much to base suspicions on. I will try an put together a quick reads lists now. Reads: Archer: Lean village. The self vote strategy from cycle one could be a bit odd, if everyone followed that then we don't get any good discussion early. But did move the vote off later Luckspren: ???. New player, hasn't done anything really suspicous and seems to be acting like I expect a new player to (confused). I don't think the GM save is anything more than because of being new Mat: Neutral. Didn't get too many thoughts after cycle 1. I don't think the post about hoping Tani is village is an elim thing. Just a weird thing. The quick double vote against in cycle two has me interested in devo Stick: Lean Elim. This one is mostly vibes, and maybe since Stick is the only one I've played with before I just have some bias Devo: Lean elim. Don't like the quick second vote on mat in cycle two, seemed like an attempt to get a bandwagon going early. The lack of self preservation with bribes was weird (I talked about it above) TUN: Lean Elim. Leaving the self vote on round one was odd to me. The change in activity is apparently normal so I won't look into that much. Hasn't really done anything this cycle so haven't had any new thoughts
  13. I don't think it's strong evidence. It was just the change in activity for TUN that made me think about it. It was a big change and I'm interested in why. I don't expect everyone to respond to everyone every cycle. As for me, I thought I had responded to 7 people. I lost one boxing because I made a list in response to JNV that the website didn't pick up as a response and I forgot to get up to 50 words in my response to stick.
  14. Yeah sorry about the double post. After my first post you edited your post with something that I wanted to respond to. I don't like adding fully new thoughts to a post since people can easily miss it if they already read the post once. I forget the rules about double posting here. Is that bad form? If so I will avoid it in the future. I just think it prevents confusion rather than editing in completely new thoughts. You're correct nobody could have actually bought an assassination this turn. I edited my post about the assassination purchase just before you posted this(which is a good example of the confusion of editing) because I realized the same thing you said and there was no way for anyone to afford to buy the assassination. The infiltrator kill even happens before the assassination so there's no way JNV could've bought it before dying.
  15. Boxing payouts happen first so JNV got the 5 boxing and then immediately died. This is confirmed in the write-up (see below): Archer is currently richest because of the three votes on Tani for Leader of Discussion. If my spreadsheet is right then Archer has 8 boxing and nobody else living has more than 5.
  16. Thanks, vote is just such a hard word to spell. The reason for not actively going for lots of money could be part of what I was talking about in the first part. If the elims mean to target players with lots of boxings then you don't want to seem suspicious if you are the only high income person who hasn't been killed by the elim kill. It's not a good reason, it's mostly just the change from sign-ups to ingame activity. But maybe that's not weird. Also matrim didn't leave a vote on themselves which is part of my reasons I'm suspicious of TUN. I also would not add a third vote to someone this early in a cycle without very good reason, especially when there are no other votes on anyone else yet. I don't see it in the rules anywhere, but are we supposed to get the same actions added to the shop every turn? The rules say "There will be a limited number of actions of each type available each cycle, based on player count. Unpurchased actions will roll over into the next cycle." Since we have less players now are we going to get one assassination every two turns from now on or something like that? Or does the fact that there is still only one assassination and bodyguard available mean that somebody bought them and they just happened to block each other? EDIT: I just realized nobody could possibly have bought an assassination cause nobody had 9 extra coins. So I guess hte number of actions added per turn isn't consistent every round
  17. Just some advice for people: The website doesn't like lists. I lost a boxing last cycle cause my response to JNV was a list and the website did not consider it a 50 word response. It was always likely dangerous to be the richest person in this game. The infiltrators probably don't want vigilantes running around unless they think they know who they'll be assassinating By targeting the rich people maybe they are hoping to try and scare people away from talking too much. If this is a legit strategy then they may be aiming to be middling in boxings earned. Or they can avoid targeting the next Loudest Voice and this means nothing. I forgot how complicated this stuff gets. I do think that it's easier to leave a vote on yourself when you know there won't be a coordinated effort by some secret group with a google doc to potentially change the lynch target. I do also think it is strange how TUN went from working to win the pregame loudest voice (even as a joke) only to immediately fall down to being out of the top 5 for most replies and not even replying to all the players for active on the floor. It almost seems to me that some extra knowledge on the game starting changed the strategy to be more under the radar. vote=TUN Question for people who have played more recently, is TUN normally among the most active players? Was the sign-up activity more normal or the level of activity during the game?
  18. I'm glad to have one recognizable name playing in this game. I'm not sure I've ever seen an elim lie in response to a question about basic gameplay or rules. It seems like something that would be easily caught and also it's just a dick move to lie to a new player who is just trying to understand what's goin on. Some thoughts in response to JNVs post (i deleted most of the content in the quote to avoid this post being ridiculously long): I don't think poke votes are useless. They can be a tool to get people to interact answer questions or just see how people react. Now if all someone does is poke votes that can be suspicions since they aren't really participating in the voting process and are possibly trying to fly under the radar. Bandwagons are also not necessarily bad. If there's someone you think should die you should want the vote to not be easily changed by vote manipulation. It's just in this case that votes also give someone money and you should be careful about who you trust with your money. I'm already starting to find the Loudest Voice mechanic kinda annoying in general. I like stuff that encourages activity, Active on the Floor works well, but loudest voice incentivizes huge posts that are difficult to read, tough to properly respond to, and hard to quote for further responses. Smaller targeted posts make the thread easier to read and just in general are easier to interact with. I know people want to get Loudest voice but can we try and make it a bit easier to follow what's going on?
  19. What a time to be dragged out of retirement! Five years of doing absolutely nothing, wonderful nothing, ruined. Forced back to this deadly world of politics. And now senators are being murdered too! That's.... actually not that surprising. I had definitely thought of doing that to several of my compatriots over my career. Maybe something good will come out of this situation after all. "Senator Stick! What are your thoughts on these murders? I've never known you to hold your tongue, unless perhaps you have mellowed with age." "That's outrageous Hammonda! Are you questioning my integrity? I would never use my position for financial gain and any rumor's that may be spreading around this senate about my completely unforced retirement being due to misconduct are complete fabrications and I will not stand them! The fortune I obtained as a senator was from my extremely successful business selling handknit socks and nothing else!" It's what I said in the post, I actually just want to see if stick is someone I actually used to play with or if I'm misremembering things. It's not a great reason but I find death threats to be a good way to get a response out of someone either way. Also I could fit in a little RP about it. Welcome to your first game! Don't worry about asking a lot of questions. It is tough to figure out what's going on for a while. I assume they meant blackmail filter not bribe filter. You need to earn three boxing from posting per turn or you'll be kicked out of the game. "Sus" is just short for suspicious. Basically susing someone is getting vibes that they are an infiltrator/on the eliminator faction. Poke votes are basically just to get people who aren't talking to talk. Voting tends to get peoples attention Game related is anything relating to the game; analysis, roleplaying, asking questions. Basically as long as it's not just you talking about real life your good. I would say confusion about whats going on is one of the most common ways everyone talks about the game
  20. Yeah the bodyguard is an issue with that, but if you're worried about an easy elim kill then anyone who announces that they bought the assassin will basically be bankrupt for life. I think we should be safe to announce bribes after the fact, they aren't too expensive that someone who buys it will be , are easy to check the results of based on the voting results and people should have interesting reasons for their choices. Also I never said it was a good idea, I said maybe someone else can come up with a better one I haven't had anyone vote to have me killed in such a long time! What a wonderful feeling! Is there anything specific that you wanted to get a response about with that poke? vote=stick I believe stick was around when I was last playing these games. Am I right or was that a different stick?
  21. Active on the floor and loudest voice only counts replies to other players as far as I understood the rules (and it looks like the website is confirming it with Archer being at zero for both) so getting to 200 words for non-quote replies doesn't mean anything. I can't say I've got a voting strategy yet. The Leader of Discussion mechanic does kinda make me want to avoid any kind of bandwagon early on as it will just lead to someone getting a bunch more money than anyone else. With such a small group of people in this game it will probably only take a couple failed lynchings for the infiltrators to outnumber us and giving the wrong person enough money for an early assassination could basically end the game on the spot. The counter to that is if it is a close vote it's easy for a couple bribe actions to push the vote anywhere. There's a lot to think about so that's why I'd say my strategy is so far nonexistent I also just realized how much you need to type to get to 200 words. I often don't have that much to say in a response to someone. I don't think we need consensus. The senators won't know who will be telling the truth and the infiltrators could use the fact that everything is anonymous to allow one of their teammates to take their action allowing us to lose any of the real benefits of this. I do think we can try and minimize the information asymmetry in some way though. Would it maybe work better if people all claimed what they bought during the next cycle? That way we don't allow for people to know how much is needed to buy stuff but it can give us more information on how much money people have or at least claim to have. It gives us another way to catch lies if everything doesn't add up without letting the infiltrators know everyone's plan ahead of time. It should be easy to have a full account of everyone's maximum money with help from the website and maybe a good bit of accounting will catch someone in a lie? This still has issues since it might allow the infiltrators to know who has enough money to buy a bodyguard at all times and plan accordingly. I don't think it's a great plan but maybe someone else can come up with something better or some improvements on this one.
  22. Thanks! It's good to be back. A lot has changed since my last game but there are still a couple names I recognize here and there. Thanks! It is nice for you to welcome me back and that is what this post is for. (To thank you for the welcoming back, not to attempt to compete with you in the super important pre-game leaderboard. Which, by the way, I believe you that the purpose of your post is truly only to welcome me back. Any other interpretation would be completely disingenuous and frankly ridiculous.)
  23. I'll join this game, I'll think of a character and name later. It's been 5 years since I last did a sanderson elimination game so hopefully I remember how to play a little! This seems like a good one to jump into again since the base rules aren't too complicated.
  24. Or I didn't read very carefully and just missed the part where it said Odium got a kill ability... But I'm too smart to have done something like that obviously.
