Zelly Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 (edited) I had a major giggle this morning that I need to share. i work with young children. We were outside and there was a bunch of robins out hunting for worms. I explained what the birds were and what they were doing. One of my little kids was SUPER EXCITED by them (and not me) and just turned around and yelled "LOOK ALL THE CHICKENS!" Naturally the first thing I can think of is Roshar and how all the birds are called chickens, so I start cracking up. When I recovered, I explained again they are birds like chickens, but they are called robins. He nodded wisely and simply said, "Chickens." Edited April 28, 2018 by Zellyia 7

+Slowswift Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 (edited) So, last week I went on a trip to Capitol Reef National Park! And I am just now posting pictures! Here they are. Spoilered, because large images. WARNING: ABSURD AMOUNT OF PICTURES AHEAD An old blacksmith's shop, from when the area was settled by pioneers. Picture taken because of the juxtaposition between "cool old-fashioned work table" and "can of WD-40". Spoiler Some petroglyphs (chalklings!): Spoiler A really cool plant called saltbush: Spoiler A couple of panoramas from the Chimney Rock hike. Dang that view was amazing. Spoiler The Henry Mountains, off in the distance and lit by what little sunlight there was (it was super cloudy, as well as windy and quite chilly): Spoiler Chimney Rock itself: Spoiler It was a pretty dry season, so not many wildflowers. However, we did manage to find some claret cup cacti in bloom: Spoiler Burr Trail switchback panorama (not a hike, but a fun, very much 4-wheel drive): Spoiler A rock face on another hike. I had to back up a lot to fit the whole thing in the frame. Spoiler We didn't make sunrise for that hike, but we made moonrise! Spoiler And finally, the highlight of the whole trip: the Temples of the Sun and Moon! This one we did make sunrise for, and it was so worth it. Just at dawn (apologies for the smudges in the foreground, I was still half-asleep in the car): Spoiler Full light of the sunrise: Spoiler Glass Mountain, a nearby formation of something. I don't know what, but it's super cool. Spoiler Pictographs on the way home, from the Black Dragon site near (or in, can't remember) the San Rafael Swell: Spoiler Close-up from previous picture, and proof that Allomancers visited the area. Steeldancer he/him Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 There are a bunch of cute BYU dancer girls staying over at my house for the next 2 days. Awesome. 3
Ammanas Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 (edited) My wife and I have been working really hard to get our house ready to sale and it finally hit the market on Saturday (3 days ago). We are now under contract at the price I was looking for as well! It's been a really stressful last few days, but we feel much better now. The couple we are selling to also seem very nice and basically looks like a younger version of ourselves. Anything can still happen, but our agent assures us it looks like they have strong financial backing so we are feeling very good at the moment! Now I can get back to reading books; it usually soothes me, but since Saturday I haven't been able to concentrate on any of the pages... Edited May 1, 2018 by Ammanas 4
Sunbird she/her Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 @Slowswift Wow!! Those photos are pretty fantastic! I love love LOVE the claret cup cactus blooms and your panorama scenery shots! Also I think the Glass Mountain rock formation might be the mineral mica, judging from how shiny and layered it looks. I have some good news of my own to share! I ambled around BYU this afternoon once I got off work and found some neat stuff to photograph. Lots of flowers are blooming on campus, and some of the Mallards at the duck pond have little fuzzy ducklings that are utterly adorable! Plus I also found a muskrat of all things next to a canal on the edge of campus, which I found REALLY surprising. I've never seen one in an area that was quite so urban. Flowers (4 photos): Spoiler Tree in bloom: Closeups of the blossoms on the flowering tree: Cluster of flowers on a bush: Pretty red leaves (3 photos): Spoiler These red leaves were starting to come out on the trees with the pink flowers: Assorted birds (3 photos): Spoiler American Crow: Barn Swallow. Several of these little guys were not very happy with the crow's presence and kept dive-bombing him. XD Adorable fluffy Mallard duckling! Muskrat (4 photos): Spoiler 4

My boss brought her five year old to work yesterday, and while he may have driven her up the wall, my colleagues and I found him absolutely adorable and he brightened up the entire office with his loveable antics. He's just learning to write and wrote all of our names on the whiteboard and he was so proud of himself. 3

Mestiv he/him Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Well, cameras in phones are getting really amazing which is great, because it allows people to try serious photography without investing a lot in equipment ^^ 2
Kav Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 (edited) I finished grad school a year ago focused on getting a very good job in a specific industry. I knew it was going to be difficult to break into, but it's what I wanted to do and I told myself to be patient and not to settle for something else. I've had some rough days - it's been very tough at times not to give up. Today I got the best job offer I could have hoped for. I'll be pulling insane hours for a long time but couldn't be happier to do it. So to anyone who's been grinding away for something and is struggling to keep at it, don't give up it'll happen! +Slowswift Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 So uh, guess who just scored a typewriter for $1? 1
Nathrangking he/him Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 After 4 years of backbreaking work I'm finally going to officially graduate college!! When I do so I will have attained the honor of Magna Cum Laude. I will also have at least 1 great law school (as I have chosen to go into that thankfully writing centric field) with a generous scholarship waiting for me!! 3

Steeldancer he/him Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I didn't mention this earlier, but I got a small raise the other day. But the more important thing, and the reason I came here, is I found this video. I...well I was in this. This choir made me fall back in love with singing again, after my teacher had practically ruined it for me. Those three days were some of the best of my entire life. Finding this video has brought back amazing warm fuzzies. I belonged in that choir, and it was an experience I will never forget (the cute girl hitting on me probably didn't hurt either). Man. I still remember the words. I had dug up my music for this for my senior portfolio... but I forgot what being in it was like. We had so much fun. This is my hope, that college will be like this. That I will belong like I did there, unlike my years at high school where I have never felt like I belonged. And now I'm rambling and I should stop. Also, here's another video (also music we sang) that you should listen to. It might be the most gorgeous choral piece I have ever done. 1
