Raese took a step back, intimidated by the sudden appearance of a student. "Oh! Uh, no, not like that . . ." he paused, terrified at the woman in front of him and her death stare. "Uh, no fire near your greenhouses, ma'am, none whatsoever . . ."

“Hm. You seem to be telling the truth, although I bet you’d be more confident about it if you were a mandrake. What are your thoughts on that, and how do you feel your lifestyle would be improved as a mandrake?” Jane queried, satisfied the crisis was averted. Granted, most people weren’t as interesting as plants. Perhaps she really should turn the boring ones into mandrakes.

Bravo! Bravo! I love it. @Doc12, you're almost as good as drawing as you are taking advantage of new players as a sneaky mafioso.

It's weird we only have sixty, fifth, and first years,  but whatever. I'm exited to see half of them die.

Jane wandered through Diagon Alley, completing errands by rote. Six years of school had been torture! Only one to go; maybe she could get a few more mandrakes to celebrate. Determined to make this quick, she pulled her long brown hair into a messy bun and put her ever-present earmuffs back on. Then, she dove back into the crowd, everyone towering above her despite her age.
Wandering absentmindedly, she saw a great deal of students sporting brand new capes. Was this a rebellion against the school uniform, or just a temporary fad? Hmm, better leave the masses to their nonsense. They’d only be easier to mess with if they came to close to her precious Womping Willow- yes, it was the school’s on paper, so what? She had claimed it and that was that.

Suddenly one of the surrounding conversations registers, bringing Jane to a halt. “… I’m like fire…” @TwinStorm

Jane turns back and sizes up the speaker. Yes, they’re a student- that could be trouble. Stalking up to the curly haired kid she warns, “You bring any fire near my greenhouses and I will hex you. I take fire warnings very seriously.”

I love Jane she sounds like such a tired senior. Also the fact that Mist is a first year while you are the oldest student in this bunch 😂 who's older in real life?

Here's what I got so far!

Hm.. just realized I forgot the earmuffs. Oh well, they'll have to wait for after work.

I mean, 18 is still a teenager tbf. Harry Potter is interesting in that they don’t receive any education from before 11 and don’t receive any sort of secondary education. Their handwriting is also likely terrible, considering how they never have English class...

Definitely not, I’m not that tall

well… supposedly he had elementary school before that. But that does mean he skipped 7th-12th grade, so he never would’ve taken an actual history class, algebra, or anything like that.

In other words, I’m better at math than Harry is.

I mean, Harry also skipped a full seventh of his (magical) schooling… But wizards aren’t shown as particularly innovative anyways. (case in point: they still use quills and parchment) He’s also not going to know much advanced English either. I doubt he knows how to use commas, semicolons, or other punctuation correctly.

I wonder if it might be better to assign Houses to everyone. I suspect Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw are going to be huge with only a few Hufflepuffs.

It's Rand, from the Wheel of Time. (Or at least, I assume it is. Cover illustrations aren't always known for being the most canonically accurate)

The battle of the Rands :P

I'll join as Siannain O'hAodhes (that's Shannon O'Hughes more or less for anyone who can't read Irish). He's an orphan who grew up in a gang in Dublin, and he prefers to solve his problems with physical force to the point that he is in his Seventh and final year and doesn't know how to cast a single spell. His wand is literally just a club with a leprechaun hair chore (I think they exist in HP? Idk). He's a star Quidditch beater (one of the types who says Quidditch when asked their favorite subject).

For Doc: He's a lanky but fit redhead with stubble growing despite being 17.

Vera has been struggling to find a good first day outfit. The normal uniform is far too boring. She needs to accessorize, something that will make a splash. But also not get her detention again for breaking dress code. She had gotten out of it alright, but she would rather not repeat the experience. Too many strikes on her record and she might not be able to go on to do great things, like her parents have. And wouldn’t that be terrible?

Ah! There’s something excellent (and, perhaps, inspired by the first year they had met in the bookshop): a dark green capelet with silver embroidery around the edge. It would look perfect above her school-issued button up and blazer. Not atop the robes of course, that would be far too much weirdly placed fluttering fabric.

Ah, and over there: a beautiful hair clip shaped like a butterfly, silver with fake sapphires embedded. She can fix the fake gems of course, and replace them with real emeralds to match her house colors.

She picks out a few other accessories, all matching the theme.

The final things to go in the ever-growing pile of boxes in her attendants hands are her new robes, perfectly fitted to be as fashionable—no that’s not right. As not terrible as possible.

When Azalea points out the boy from before, she walk over to him. “Hello again! You still a bit lost? You look confused.”

wait I need a character

uhhhh

Jimmy the Destroyer was ready to replace any students that were lacking. He was only one-fifth kandra, by any estimate, but that was enough for him. He gave a grin at the distant sight of Hogwarts, then vanished away in an instant.

Does that work?

Trance looked up at the voice. “What? Yeah…. I probably am…”

He gestured at the packed fabrics and boxes, “I don’t even know which direction the door is anymore” he shook his head, “from what my mom tells me, Hogwarts will be worse than this”

With all the people and things everywhere, and since all of it was being moved as people hunted for the right thing, even if Trance got his bearings, it wouldn’t be the same as when her first came it.

Trance wasn’t looking forward to an entire castle like this though, maybe he could just stay in his dorm and only have to memorize the way to his classes.

“Hm. I may be able to help. You’ll be needing two sets of everyday wear, that’ll just be a shirt and pants. You’ll want a sweater for the winter, and of course a set of robes. Also, shoes. You don’t know your house yet, obviously, though I doubt it’s Slytherin. You’re far too…timid. Hufflepuff, maybe. So you don’t know what colors to get yet for accessories. Other than black I suppose.”
She speaks incredibly quickly, rattling everything off to a rather overwhelmed looking Trance as she shoves various clothing items into his arms.

”And there you are! All the essentials. The counter is there, and the door is that way. As for at Hogwarts itself, I’m sure you’ll get used to it quick. And if you ever need any help, do let me know. I’ll be a fifth year, so I know my way around quite well. And I’m always happy to help those in need.”

Azalea rolled her eyes, tossing an extra set of work robes at Trance. "Vera, first years need three sets of work robes. And a hat. And gloves. Dragon hide, or similar." She motioned to an attendant, who hopped to get the extra items. "Also, admirable restraint on not assigning him a trunk load of accessories. He does not look overwhelmed in the slightest!" She giggled.

She then took another look at the pup. "It's frankly rude that the Sorting Hat only assigns you a House once you get there. Poor first years don't even know what color they're going to be stuck with for the next seven years." She paused. "Well, knew. And Vera. But we've always known. You're..." She gave Trance a little poke. "Yeah, you're probably a Hufflepuff. Yellow won't be a bad color for you, it goes with your hair."

"Well, have fun! We'll see you at Hogwarts. Remember, how many Sickles to a Galleon?"

After getting everything from the Bookstore, Leokadius made his way to Madam Malkins to get those Schoolrobes. Why did there have to be a uniform again? As he entered the Store he saw the two older Girls from the Bookstore again. They were talking to a young Boy, probably around Leokadius Age, one of the Topics of discussion were the values of the Coins. "You know, it would probably be easier to remember if the exchange rates between your diffrent coins wasnt absolutely horrendous. Seriously who thought that those were a good Idea?"

“Don’t worry about it,” Jane waved a hand dismissively. “I’ll find you when it’s finished. Or when I need a test subject.” The curly haired boy seemed to stare on in terror as she practically ran towards the apothecary.

”Uh, thanks…”

He looked down at the pile of clothes and shoes in his hands. It was already big.

“17…” Trance said, “I remember…”

He didn’t really know what house he’d be in, and he wasn’t sure he really cared either. It was just a place to sleep, right?

Finally done with the school shopping, Azalea announced "Ice creams!", and dragged Vera out of Madam Malkins.

At the door, she suddenly paused, looking at Trance again, still looking overwhelmed. Where was this kid's parents? Or friends? Was he really just here on his own? Blowing out a big sigh, Azalea decided to do her second (she tried to limit herself to five) altruistic thing of the day. "Hey kid! Come to Fortescue's with us. I'll buy you an ice-cream."

Another kid, looking extremely intimidated. What was it with first years wandering about alone today? No, wait - there was an adult coming back with a cauldron. Still. Irresponsible. She tracked where he was looking, and saw Jane's brown mop disappear into the apothecary. She couldn't help but smirk. From what she knew of the older girl, Jane was brilliant but brusque, and had a reputation for threatening to transfigure first-years.

"Starting early, I see!" She called out, wondering if Jane would hear her.

"She's not allowed to transfigure people," she assured the boy. "...Yet." Truly, only a matter of time before Jane makes professor and gets to do whatever she wanted.

Im generous with you for a reason! Now have a good afternoon,” Agrus trumpets before leaving Orry slightly frustrated and underwhelmed by the familiar experience.

And there's Orry. And his dad straightening his robes. She giggled at his embarrassment, throwing him a wave. "Just got here, did you? We're already done our shopping. We're going to Fortescue's!"
