BinarySecond Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 So ends an era of hype. Friday marks the beginning of the end of the halfway point. Only 7 years till we do it all again! https://reactormag.com/read-wind-and-truth-by-brandon-sanderson-interludes-3-and-4/ Alas only Interludes. LOL J/k read the title of the first one! 3
who_slew_aicirtap she/they Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 So now that we know Dai-Gonarthis is elsewhere, is it safe to assume the Unmade in Shinovar is Chemoarish? 10
Stark he/him Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Something, something, Discretion is the greater part of Valor? Feels like it needed saying. 5

Ewery1 Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 That El chapter was so insanely cool. I think the oath made to let him rule over human lands will be a surprise shocker - it seemed to me at least like perhaps he wants to then set them free. Also, what’s in the Shattered Plains? Is it Honor? Are the plains shattered like his psyche? Is that why his perpendicularity is so unstable? 3
Zea mays Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Is it wrong that I find El quite likeable here? But I am very very worried about Sigzil now. 14
Subvisual Haze Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Quote Isolated as the others were, he could watch and prepare exactingly how to defeat each one. Only one of them held two Shards of power, but that one was unable to function properly. Odium’s predecessor had never taken a second Shard of power for that reason. Yes, such a theoretical situation would indeed be an effective way to dilute the destructive energies of the Odium shard 1
The Stick Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Dai Gonnarthis this can make Elsegates? This makes sense on transferring troops past the Aima barrier storm. This also makes him the Elsecallers parallel Unmade. In addition, Odium has no corrupted Elsecallers. I wonder what old power guards lands from the Black Fisher, and why Natanan falls. In addition, I wonder how Gonnarthis can demand payment from a Shard. El was so cool, and he murdered Jezrien, so Kalak was partly wrong. However, he viewed it as a mercy killing, but also a service? What a mentally disturbed character. 1
BinarySecond Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) Is El Nohadan? Edit: Or a Fused equivalent? He seems...almost based. Edited December 2, 2024 by BinarySecond 8
Darvys Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Final preview is of the characters who interest me the most, can't wait for this book.
CtrlAltDepressed Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Wow wow wow. El is a very interesting character. Im excited to learn more about the history of the Heralds through him. I also really liked his perspective on TOdium. What is the price that Dai-Gonarthis requires? This is definitely going to be important. Also, they need a lot of Investiture for DG to be able to help them. I wonder why? She must be trapped somewhere? Poor Horneaters, I dont think this next sequence of events is going to go well for them. Also POOR SIGZIL. He was already outgunned and now there is going to be an unmade and additional Fused at the shattered plains. Wow. He doesnt stand a chance. I love the Taravangian perspectives. They are so good. I liked the nod to the shard that is completely hidden, guessing that is the Survival shard we have heard so much (little) about. Valor is hidden..........super super super interested. Why is she hidden? HOW is she hidden? So many questions! I really hope that we learn more about Valor, and that wasnt the extent of the namedrop. Cultivation tells Taravangian to do the right thing. Im guessing right now that is to take up the shard of Honor. Taravangian knows that Odiums plan is horrible, although effective. He will need to make the choice that Rayse never could - to intentionally restrict himself by taking on another intent. Will he actually make that choice? I dont think he will, personally. Perhaps this is the decision Brandon said he changed last minute? 3
MarcieIsForager She/They Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 El talks like super familiarly of the herald, which kinda leads me to believe hes one of the dawnsingers around for the human conquest. I think he might have written the Eila Stele 6
TruthBotcher Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 The other shard who's hiding could be Invention as Harmony mentioned being "unable to locate" them again in the RoW letter. 1

El is the best. There's not wrong with you. Speaking of which, I think it would be cool for Rlain/Renarin to end up on the Shattered Plains for the final fight. Rlain, who wants to fit in as a singer, but can't , vs El, who rejected the singers to study humans. 4
SheepAreFluffy Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 My "it probably won't happen but what if it does?" idea from reading this: What if Shallan ascends to Honor? Would her dissociation help her to resist the corrupting influence of holding a shard in the same way that Taravangian's dual nature is (at least somewhat) helping him resist Odium? Radiant certainly has a strong Connection to Honor. And she is now stuck in the Spiritual Realm, so she's in (sort of) the right place for it. 1
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I thought El was an incredibly cool character in his one appearance in RoW, and this second scene of his does not disappoint. RIP Jezrien (again). He seems like he is going to be a great villain - I hope he makes it out of this book and into the back five alive somehow. Also The Black Fisher, finally! I suspect that the important thing about the Shattered Plains has something to with Honor and his remains. That has to explain the shattering of said plains, and also the amount of investiture which allows connection. Might even have something to do with the insane size of the Chasmfiends. Cultivation breaking Taravangians mind into what is essentially two different psyches and then giving him Odium is an insane plan. Won't at all backfire on her I'm sure. 9

+Child of Hodor Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) The El chapter seemed a little inconsistent with his brief appearance in RoW. Odium rushed the Pursuer's return so that El could use the dagger on him to see if the anti-voidlight would work. I would think they knew of each other. Plus, the Pursuer is surprised to see El like Odium reincarnated someone Rayse had kept on Braize. Quote "We didn't want to wait," El said softly, still facing away from the Pursuer ... "So we had it done the old way." "I thought Odium wasn't doing that any longer." "Our new god made an exception Defeated One." RoW 116 Now Odium doesn't know who he is "Who are you? Ah ... yes I see." I guess we can handwave that the 9 asked Odium to return the Pursuer and El didn't interact, but it's a little weird. Edited December 2, 2024 by Child of Hodor 3

Can we expect a rewrite or better context to explain this? 3

I think it's too late for that unless he wants to do what he did with WoR and fix it in post, but I don't think it's that big a deal. Further evidence that this is an error is that the epigraphs in RoW were tilted "Musings of El, on the first of the Final Ten Days." during which he says he looks forward to leading the humans yet he only gets that power in this interlude which is after the end of Day 2. Unless this is supposed to be the first day, but positioned in the book after the 2nd. 3
the_archduke Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 El says that his kind are worn out and can't rule much longer. He destroys the remnants of Jezrien and sees it as a mercy. Then he asks for and gets the promise that he will get to rule human lands. Quote “Then they report to you, El. Help me claim this world.” “If I do, can I rule human lands for you?” “If that is your wish, I will grant it.” Excellent. El bowed. “I will not fail, lest I be destroyed.” Is he planning on losing so he can die? Suicidal but doesn't want to do the deed himself so is going to suicide by Odium? As for Taravangian letting each side rule in turn. What if each side held a shard separately? Smart Taravangian with Odium and compassionate Taravangian with Honor? 1
