Thanks a lot guys, I'm going to talk to him about it and apologize

Hopefully him and I will be able to meet up sometime soon.

Also, did he plan to come over beforehand?  Or just drop by unannounced?  It's possible that he had a moment of panic of, "Ack! I didn't call ahead! Now KamorianKandra is going to think I'm a rude lunkhead!"

No, he didn't tell me. Not that I minded, but that's probably why I acted so awkward.

Thanks.

I just finished an eleven hour shift at work and just after I turned down the option to go home early I spilled semi boiling water on my hand and received one of the worst burns I've ever had (and I still had to finish my shift). So now I'm sitting at home typing with one hand and i thought I'd try  to dull the pain with a drink, turns out that Alcohol thins out your blood and makes it hurt more since my hand is still getting blood despite being in Ice water.

Owwwwch. I'm sorry. Do you have any aloe vera oil, or is there a store still open that sells it? (Not sure what time it is where you are, but it's night where I live.) I've used aloe before and it works really well for burns.

Even better if you can get Solarcaine.  It's aloe infused with a topical analgesic, usually lidocaine.

What?  Just...but...NO!

A merchant returned some of our old equipment today.  Included in the box were large amounts of cobwebs sprinkled with rodent poop clinging to the cords.

I..  I just..  Why?  Why would you DO that?!

Wear gloves and a mask! Or better yet, get the new guy to handle that!

That is so not okay. :o

Amusingly enough, the newest guy *is* the one who's been checking in returned devices.  Fortunately, this was one of the obsolete models, so he just hermetically sealed it back up with packing tape and took it down to the dumpster.  Then, I assume he disinfected himself.

That is so not okay. :o

Judging by how the cobwebs were entwined in the cords, I do think that this was not malicious, but just a case of being lazy and filthy people.  Still, no, it is not okay.  It is not even in the same ZIP code as okay.

Just got back a few days ago from a trip to Europe for 9 days, and I have gotten up before three the past two or so days.  My dad got really mad at me because he says that it is all my fault that he can't sleep, even though he is a light sleeper and would probably wake up to someone shifting positions in bed.  Not cool.

Also, while I was in Europe, I got some Brandon Sanderson books, what I thought were the first and second Stormlight books in German, and it ends up being there are FOUR books out because it reached the maximum limit or something.  *smack to the face moment* so I had to go on Amazon to buy some copies. Urg.

I'm not even kidding. He'd talk and chat and comment on what was going on, but the second someone else said something—even if they were responding to him—he'd go "SSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Seriously, Dad, either let us talk or stop talking.

wow... that must be really annoying.

It is. And of course, the only other person who's allowed to talk is Mom. They do that all the time—they'll both do something they grouch at me and my siblings for doing, seemingly oblivious to the double standard.

I heard that. It's sad.

For those of you who don't know, he is the actor who played Saruman and Count Dooku.

Yep. He also recorded a full on Metal album at the age of 91. Crazy talented human being that has left us. He actually passed last Sunday and that news was kept under the lid till yesterday. That is kinda mind boggling in this info age. That shows massive respect for the man as it would be so easy for a staff member to have posted on the sly in those 4-5 days. It's amazing respect imo

*why* was it kept quiet?

Probably to make sure family and friends were all notified and had a chance to mourn before it went public.

"Hello there, I had a question, and instead of asking it directly, I think I'll tell you all the reasons why I want it answered and why I came up with it in the first place, none of which are relevant to you answering it."

Great. While you were doing that, I missed two other calls. Please get to the point already.

My dad has had three sons become Eagle Scouts and now he's fresh out of 'em, so as soon as I was barely old enough I was signed up for Venture Scouting, which would be okay except for the fact that I had no choice in it at all. Now, barely a week later, I'm being sent of to a scout camp where they assure me I'll be fine because I have a friend there even though the forms explicitly state people from the same patrols (or crews, in my case) will be assigned different patrols at camp. I'm not afraid of camping; I love it and I love hiking and I think the scouts are a wonderful organization. But I'm going to be at a camp where I will know one person who I won't get to see almost ever and I'll be one of maybe five girls.

Yikes. That sucks. :( How long does scout camp last?

From tomorrow to Saturday.

Almost a week, then? It may not be pleasant, but at least it'll be doable. You can count down the days that way—which is definitely what I'd do. :P Still, it sounds like your summer's being hijacked, and that can't be fun.

At least I have a family reunion to look forward to. My family's awesome, and they read Sanderson. Seriously though, my aunt reviews books professionally, and she had an advance copy of Firefight last year. The crowd around her was... intense...

Anyway. Thanks, Twi.  ^_^

:o

Lucky! I introduced my family to the Reckoners books after reading Steelheart, and my sister got me Firefight for my birthday, but I'm the only one who really enjoys geeking out about books. And I'm also the only one in my family who's read anything else by Sanderson, so….when I'm in a mood to geek out, this is where I go.

Yeah, there's a lack of Sanderfans I know in real life. My mom loves everything he's written, but I can't really hardcore geek out and theorize and stuff.

How it is on this site (spoilered for, well, spoilers):

Me: I was just thinking. Okay, you know how Steelheart was a school bully, and how a lot of school bullies grow up to have low-paying jobs where they cope by getting drunk at 3 PM? You think Steelheart was drunk during his Rending?

Sharder 1: That's an interesting question. It would depend on what he was like after he left school, and we're not given a lot of information to go on. I'd say the chances are pretty good.

Sharder 2: Wait—so you mean Hancock might be real in the Reckonersverse? :o

Me: It's possible. Though there's not exactly a happy ending.

Sharder 1: Imagine Steelheart's Rending. Now imagine that…drunk.

Sharder 2: :o :o :o
