Nope.  I'm the Mom, remember?

Now behave yourself, Kobold, or I will turn this forum around and go straight back home.

Did anyone else watch Star Trek: Voyager when it was on? I saw it as a kid. Basically, the story is that a starship is, through completely avoidable circumstances, stranded out in deep space, millions of light years from Earth. It'll take the crew decades just to reach the Gamma Quadrant (they're in the Delta when the series begins) but the Captain knows her pilot, Tom Paris, can find wormholes and other cheats to get them home.

Captain Janeway and Tom Paris didn't always get along. Sometimes, they had fierce disagreements, one of which (IIRC) landed Tom in the brig. Tom always acted like Janeway had all the power there, and if they were in the Alpha Quadrant, she would have been able to call down the Admiral and other Captains and probably more than a few janitors, too. But they weren't in the Alpha Quadrant. They were in the Delta Quadrant. The only reason they remained a Star Fleet ship is because Janeway insisted they play pretend until they got back home. She had no idea how to pilot a starship.

Tom did.

Now, here's what I don't understand: If Tom knew how to pilot a starship that Janeway had no idea how to fly, why did he let her boss him around? If I were Tom, the second Janeway started bugging me, I'd just go "I will turn this ship around!" Ta-da. End of argument. Tom Paris wins.

THAT SETTLES IT--

That settles it. Sorry Twi, but if I ever get a starship you don't get to fly on it. Your predisposal towards mutiny is too high. :P

Well, Tom wasn't the only pilot on the ship.  He was the best one by far, but he did not have the sole knowledge of how to fly the ship.

Also, Janeway had a trump card:  "Tom, behave, or I'll tell B'Elanna to punch you."  At least up until they got married, at which point Tom had gotten over most of his rebellious ways.

If the captain is smart and doesn't insist on Honor Before Reason that gets her entire crew stranded millions of lightyears from home, then I'll have no need to mutiny. But seriously, if Tom had done that, I swear most of the crew would've cheered and declared him Emergency Interim Captain while Janeway was demoted to Wet Blanket. :P

Edit: Aw, I remember Tom/B'Elanna. My memories of that show are mostly positive, but I always wondered why Janeway didn't try and find a better solution that would've kept the Ocampa alive and allowed her crew to head back home.

This is the only pair that I have that fit anywhere remotely close to well.  I am of a female body shape that clothing designers do not acknowledge exist, you see.  If it fits in the waist, it is ridiculously baggy everywhere else.  If it fits in the hips and rear, it cuts into my stomach.  Since hip-huggers went out of style, my options for jeans that actually fit me have sunk like a lead weight to the bottom of the ocean.

I hate jeans shopping.  Haaaaate.  Loathe it with the fire of a thousand suns, etc.  I'll spend hours poring over stuff, eventually find a couple of styles that might work, and out of a dozen pairs of jeans, find one that might work.  Might.  If I'm lucky.  Even if half of them are supposedly the same style and size.

I can sometimes find stuff in the juniors section, but I have to sort through some really juvenile crap and settle for super-thin fabric that wears out quickly.  Also, while I look younger than my years, I'm getting to the point where I feel awfully self-concious about shopping in the section that is essentially for teenagers.

Oh, I understand this. All too well. Jeans for me are always too loose in the waist and way to tight the rest of the way. I do not wear skinny jeans. I hate skinny jeans. But it's the current trend, and it's impossible to find normal pants that actually fit. Jeans shopping= instant death.

She'd Hulk out on me if I gave the slightest inclination she was annoying me. Or she'd get all hurt and weepy. Either way, it wouldn't be pleasnt. :o

I know the feeling- just had a conversation to this effect today. There doesn't seem to be a way to win, and it's awful.

Star Trek: Voyager.  I do like it, but it's probably the weakest of the series.

This isn't exactly a rant; more just... me complaining. (And apologising to anyone I've bothered with stuff in the process).

I have no idea what's going on but lately... I'unno. I don't like saying I've been manic-depressive, because I'm not, and saying that I am is a huge insult and slap in the face to those who are... but lately I've been having some mood swings. Most of the time I feel fine- the usual energetic, pony-poster you guy's love hate tolerate- but...

I'unno. Sometimes, it feels like a switch just flips, and it gets kind of tough to put effort into things, and suddenly I feel a whole lot worse about myself and the way I act; that I bother everyone and get on people's nerves. Which is also why I tend to apologize a lot more, even though that seems like the best way to actively make people be annoyed at me.

So... I have no idea where I'm going with this. Out-sourcing it to you guys, I suppose? Anything ya'll would recommend to keep me feeling perky? twilightsheepish.png

I'm sorry. It sucks to feel suddenly so self-conscious about oneself. :(

For what it's worth, I myself have never felt you've gotten on anyone's nerves. Quite the contrary, you are a joy to have around! You have a dry yet still goofy sense of humor and a sharp eye for new ideas and concepts; honestly, you've contributed far more quality content to this site than I ever have. This site could do without me just fine; you are the kind of poster this forum couldn't live without. A supplier of quality humor and ideas, a veritable forge of fantasy and brilliance. :)

As for keeping you feeling perky... well, this tumblr seems right up your alley...

Usually the key to feeling better is to figure out exactly what the problem is.  And if there's no outside trigger, then usually mood swings like that are physiological.  It might be as simple as not getting enough sunlight, or a vitamin deficiency.  It might be something out of balance in the brain.  Try a few things, experiment a bit, and see what tends to life your mood.  Do you feel better after a walk outside?  After eating an orange?  After sitting down and writing out a good, solid fanfic scene?  Or after posting here on 17S and having people remind you of how awesome you are? :)

Man, that's deep.

Of course, instead of the very metaphorical way it was supposed to be meant, my brain gravitated towards the words "Shattered plains" and "highstorm flash floods" while reading this.

We have a bumblebee nest under our back deck.  So far they haven't been terribly aggressive, but I worry what might happen as the colony gets bigger.  I don't want to hurt them, because we can use all the native pollinators we can get, but I really, really don't want them that close to our back doors.

I've been soaking the ground around it nightly as of late to try to convince the bees that it's a bad place for a nest and encourage them to find someplace better.  Hopefully they're not so settled in that they won't move.

We also appear to have chipmunks and/or bunnies that have burrowed  under our front walkway.  That should be easily solved with mothballs.  They're cute little critters, but they're devouring my clematis.

First world problems, man.

I used to think Zack Snyder would do a pretty decent job if he directed a Steelheart movie adaptation. I mean, he's already forcing Superman, the Big Blue Boy Scout, to become darker and edgier, so why not just give him material about an evil Superman?

After hearing he plans to shoehorn Aquaman of all people into Batman vs. Superman, I no longer believe Snyder is the one to direct anything Brandon. We would get Shia LaBeouf as Fortuity.

If that were the case, on the bright side—and this is a tiny, two-watt bright side—the marketing team would be able to use this song for promotional purposes.

And tell me, fellow Reckoners fans: would Fortuity or would he not hire a bunch of backup dancers wearing masks of his face? I know there's no way to be sure, but he seems like the kind of Epic who would do that, amirite?

It's not his powers that bother me—Quiver and others pointed out how useful and terrifying Aquaman's powers can be. It's that he doesn't fit in this movie. So you have Superman, who is being pushed in a darker direction by the director, fighting Batman, who may be the darkest hero in mainstream comics aside from the Punisher. Where does Aquaman fit? How do you shoehorn him in? What is he even doing in this movie it makes no sense please save me

Oh c'mon. There is no way in R'lyeh a mortal like Aquaman, even a telepathic one, could bind the priest of the Great Old Ones to his will. Aquaman might venture into Cthulhu's trench, but he'd come back a gibbering shell of the hero he once was or not at all.

Ahem. Sorry, go back to your rants. :P

Well, remember, he is half-Atlantean.  For all we know, the Great Old Ones bred the Atlanteans specifically to be their foot soldiers.  Or, like, their utensils or something.  Nothing like keeping the ol' tentacles clean like having someone else shovel your food into your mind-twisting gaping maw that you call a mouth.

So, I was watering the garden when I came across a dead baby rabbit.

Awww. :(

It's a thing that happens.  Either something got it, or something scared it to death.  Baby rabbits have notoriously delicate constitutions.

Ugh. That's awful. :( As a farmer I've lost a lot of animals. Baby rabbits, baby chickens, baby goats... it sucks no matter how big or small it is, or no matter how little or how well you knew the creature in question.

Death is never an easy thing to have shoved in your face.

I know, but whyyyyy? You already have two icons facing off against each other. I'm all for a Justice League movie, but shoehorning a bunch of heroes who don't fit into this movie is just asking for it to flop.
