  4. Preview season is upon us! Tor has released the first three chapters of the seventh Mistborn book (and the fourth and final book of the Wax and Wayne subseries), The Lost Metal, and will continue releasing new chapters every Monday at 12PM Eastern Time until the book comes out November 15th. The samples will be posted on Tor's website, and will be posted in both text and audio form, beginning with the prologue and chapters 1 and 2 earlier today. While Brandon has previously done readings of early drafts of these chapters, these are the (near) final versions of what will appear in the book, and chapter 2 is a bit longer, so it may be worth checking out even if you've already watched those. In case you haven't seen it already, here's the back cover blurb: And the cover: When it comes to our site, please limit discussion to the Spoiler Zone forums, where we have both Mistborn-only and full-Cosmere subforums. On our Discord, we similarly have made #tlm-mistborn-only and #tlm-cosmere channels under the new Recent Release Spoilers category, and have moved our #cosmere-mechanics channel there under the new name #tlm-cosmere-mechanics.
  5. Brandon released a video on his channel of him reading TLM chapter 1: youtube link
  6. The official US cover for the fourth Wax and Wayne book is here! The US publisher, Tor, have officially released the cover for The Lost Metal, designed and created by the talented Chris McGrath. This is the second of Brandon’s big publishers to release a cover design, with the UK cover being revealed on May 18th. As a reminder, the book releases November 15th in the UK and US (release dates in other regions and languages vary by publisher). Generally, hardcover, audiobook, and eBook are released at about the same time, and the US paperback a year later. Links to pre-order The Lost Metal from US retailers can be found in the Tor article. In Tor’s announcement, Chris goes into some detail about how he found Brandon’s books and it is equal parts adorable and relatable. Turns out Chris got as sucked in by Mistborn just like the rest of us. Looking to do a Mistborn re-read in preparation for The Lost Metal’s release? Then you should check out our new re-read podcast, Spanreads, and we can all read along together! Currently we’re working through Era 1, but will have Era 2 episodes coming out in a few months time in the run up to release of the last Mistborn book! Spanreads releases on Wednesday’s. Check out our playlist to see all the released episodes! Are you a fan of RPG’s? Do you like Dungeons and Dragons? Big fan of Critical Role and Dimension 20? Why not check out Diceborn, our new Mistborn role playing game! Diceborn is run with the Mistborn Adventure Game rule set produced by Crafty Games, a story driven RPG set in Era 2 Mistborn which follows our five crew members, Dervish (Overlord Jebus), Royce (WeiryWriter), Hallie (Kaymyth), Marelyn (GaterGirl00), and Luca (Comatose). Diceborn releases every second Monday, alternating with Shardcast. Check out the first episode and meet all of our heroes!
  7. It's time for an episode we recorded ages ago, long before we even got the blurb for this book: Lost Metal Predictions! The final Wax and Wayne book is finally coming November. Here are our predictions and hopes for the book! Also, so so many mechanical tangents. What can we say, we are excited to talk Mistborn and the mysteries on Scadrial. Today we have Eric (Chaos), Ian (Weiry), David (Windrunner), Rosemary (Kaymyth), and Matt (Comatose)! We have a cover for The Lost Metal now! Here's the US edition, which we put in the thumbnail: https://www.tor.com/2022/05/26/cover-reveals-the-lost-metal-a-mistborn-novel-by-brandon-sanderson/ We referenced two older episodes in this one: Southern Scadrians - https://youtu.be/qej6ljwWHlE Atium and the Atium Retcon (where we discuss the Preservation switching business) - https://youtu.be/OZxrgxN-HRw 00:00 Introductions 1:23 Biggest Hope and what is the Lost Metal? 9:43 Genre and plotlines 21:39 Harmony and His Sword (& Tangents) 51:04 Kelsier 56:25 The Set 1:07:38 Southerners 1:15:59 Atium 1:24:41 Wax 1:39:02 Wayne 1:58:10 Marasi 2:05:29 Steris 2:15:31 Final Thoughts 2:18:41 Who's That Cosmere Character If you like our content, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/17thshard For discussion, theories, games, and news, come to https://www.17thshard.com Come talk with us and the community on the 17th Shard Discord: https://discord.gg/17thshard Want to learn more about the cosmere and more? 8. Brandon's UK publisher, Gollancz, has officially revealed the UK cover for the finale of the Wax and Wayne series, The Lost Metal! As a reminder, the book releases November 15th in the UK and US (release dates in other regions and languages vary by publisher). Generally, hardcover, audiobook, and eBook are released at about the same time, and paperback a year later. The US cover has not yet been announced by Tor. Cover by Sam Green. (That's the highest quality that's been posted that I could find, sorry.) Additionally, the cover for the rerelease of the second Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians book, The Scrivener's Bones, has also been revealed! The new edition is expected to come out July 5th. Cover by Justin Gerard. How do you feel these compare to their respective originals? Share your opinions in the comments below!
  9. Chapter 1 and 2 of the Lost Metal was read last November at the Dragonsteel Mini-Con, and was posted online in February. It took a bit to record this episode due to sickness and Brandon's recent bombshell, but enjoy! We don't know when future sample chapters will be coming out, but I imagine this will be our last Lost Previews for a while until sample chapters come in earnest. 10. We're getting back to some previews for Lost Metal, this time covering Lost Metal's Prologue! We'll also be covering the reading of chapter 1 and 2 later this week, so even though this is a bit of a late one, we thought it'd be weird to not have Danielle and Marvin talk about the prologue as well! You can read the prologue, which Brandon read at JordanCon in July 2021, here: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/472/#e14863 Wayne image in the thumbnail by the amazing Elisgardor: https://www.instagram.com/p/CVtXd1-KEqC/ The Waxillium background is also by Dan Watson and will be in the leatherbounds (and animated with permission by Marvin): https://www.instagram.com/p/CLH1UFYj0Vw/ If you like our content, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/17thshard For discussion, theories, games, and news, come to https://www.17thshard.com Come talk with us and the community on the 17th Shard Discord: https://discord.gg/17thshard Want to learn more about the cosmere and more? 11. Our preview show with Danielle and Marvin is back, this time talking about The Lost Metal, the fourth Mistborn Era 2 novel that comes out November 15th, 2022! Preview chapters have not begun yet, and we don't know when they will, but we do have an extremely spicy blurb/synopsis for the book, and that's what we're talking about today! Link to the blurb: https://www.tor.com/2021/12/06/book-announcements-the-lost-metal-a-mistborn-novel-from-brandon-sanderson/ A draft of Lost Metal's prologue is out (and apparently Brandon read chapters 1 and 2 at the November Mini-Con, but we don't have the audio for this yet), and you can read the prologue here: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/472/#e14863 The sweet Marasi thumbnail is by Dan Watson and will be in the Alloy leatherbound: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/q9Q0Gn The Waxillium background is also by Dan Watson and will be in the leatherbounds (and animated with permission by Marvin): https://www.instagram.com/p/CLH1UFYj0Vw/ If you like our content, support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/17thshard For discussion, theories, games, and news, come to https://www.17thshard.com Come talk with us and the community on the 17th Shard Discord: https://discord.gg/17thshard Want to learn more about the cosmere and more? 12. ?Weekly Roundup time! Lots of progress updates on books (Wax & Wayne 4, Skyward 4, and an unspecified book that's probably a Dark One story), and lots of YouTube stuff coming up (two livestreams this month, and an interview with Will Friedle)! Also, The Way of Kings leatherbounds have been added to the store, as have Strength before Weakness T-shirts! As is often the case, we begin with an update on Wax & Wayne 4: The Lost Metal has officially been sent off to the beta readers. As mentioned last time, Brandon plans to do the next revision in spring, giving the community beta readers and the editors plenty of time to get all their feedback in and organized. Now that that's out of the way for now, he will be starting a revision of a story he is co-writing with Dan Wells for Mainframe. While Brandon did not give a name for it, Dan recently tweeted about finishing the first draft of a collab named Dark One: Forgotten, so it's probably that. Forgotten will be a prequel to the main Dark One books, and an in-world "true crime"-style podcast featuring a journalist tracking a serial killer. No other information has been revealed, but that description plus the name should probably be sending some alarm bells a-ringing in the heads of anyone who read Dark One's first volume. (For those curious, Mainframe's site also lists a story named Dark One: Prophetic Histories, which we know essentially nothing about.) This will, however, slow down work a bit on the next item on our list: prewriting for Skyward 4 (which is at 20%). As a reminder, this final installment in the Skyward series—tentatively named Defiant—is expected to release spring 2023. However, the first draft is intended to be finished by the end of 2021, so that he can jump into Stormlight 5 come the new year. In other things Skyward, Janci Patterson's first Skyward Flight novella Sunreach has been doing excellently in the ratings, currently sitting at: 4.9 stars on Audible 4.7 stars on Amazon 4.4 stars on Goodreads Shameless plug, since we're on the topic of Sunreach reviews: if you've finished and want to see some full spoiler discussion about it, be sure to check out Shardcast, the official podcast of the 17th Shard (that's us!), which today released a Sunreach Minisode where you can hear some of our other staff discuss it. As a reminder, you can find links to purchase Sunreach on Penguin Random House's website, as which also has links to order Skyward and Starsight, or to pre-order ReDawn (out October 26th), Cytonic (out November 23rd), and Evershore (out December 28th). For a final bit of book news, Brandon gave a minor clarification on reading order: while it's recommended to read Cytonic before Evershore (which is release order), this is a matter of pacing, not spoilers, and if you really want to read the novellas all in a row, you can do that without ruining the Cytonic experience, it just won't be optimal because the stories were designed to read most naturally the order they're coming out in. In addition to book news, we have … other book things! Ahem. Anyway, Dragonsteel Books will be selling a limited supply of The Way of Kings leatherbound editions left over from the Kickstarter for $200. They can be found on the store's website, and will be mailed directly from the bindery (this means they cannot be bundled with any other store items for shipping). Once this stock runs out, they will likely not be reprinted until next year, though specifics are not settled yet. Any reprinted editions will not be signed, and may or may not come with the slipcase or genuine leather covers, since those were unlocked by Kickstarter stretch goals and are not the normal way Brandon's leatherbounds are done. In another piece of merch news, Strength before Weakness T-Shirts are also now available on Dragonsteel's store. They cost $25 and are available from size Small to size 3X-Large. Book news isn't the only news, however (though there's a lot of it)—we've got some YouTube news as well! First up, Brandon will be doing two livestreams this month, instead of his usual one, but will not be doing any in November due to Cytonic's release and the Dragonsteel Mini-Con. The first one will be on October 7th, alongside Janci Patterson. This will be a normal Q&A stream (theoretically spoiler-free, as usual; hopefully a Cytoverse spoiler stream may happen eventually but none have been confirmed), and presumably held around the normal time (usually his streams are somewhere around 6PM or 7PM MDT). However, timing has not been confirmed so please take that guess with a grain of salt and watch Brandon's Twitter for official announcements. Update: Confirmed to be at 6PM MDT, as expected. Stream will be up on YouTube at this link. The second stream will be a fanmail stream at 3PM MDT on October 30th, where Brandon and his wife Emily will, dressed in costume, try and get through opening a large chunk of the fanmail they've been sent. For time reasons, questions will not be taken for this stream, outside of ones sent in with the mail. (Note: packages are pre-screened before he opens them, though the first time Brandon himself will be seeing anything will be on-stream. So keep it appropriate!) In addition to the streams, Brandon interviewed Will Friedle at FanX, where the two discussed their favorite pieces of media and why they consider them to be so good. Brandon also says that there are other similar videos in the pipeline, though he has not released details yet. (No updates on the Script Notes video or movie review he mentioned a little over a month ago, unfortunately, but I imagine those will be coming out eventually as well.) Lastly, just a reminder that Inktober is currently ongoing, and there's a great set of Cosmere-themed prompts made for it by our very own @FelCandy and Dragonsteel's Isaac Stewart! You can find art using the prompts on various social platforms, such as Twitter, Tumblr, or Instagram (close call on whether that last link was gonna work today or not…) Which series are you looking forward to the continuation of most? And more immediately, which Skyward story seems most exciting? Alternatively, are you going to buy a leatherbound or T-shirt? Also, any cool Inktober art you loved? Wow, there really are a lot of things this week… Anyway, if you have opinions on any of those questions, let us know in the comments below! Naturally, Brandon's Weekly Update video is on YouTube, and a transcript will at some point be uploaded to his blog.
  13. Some more exciting news this week: first, Sunreach is out! Also, the next revision of Wax and Wayne 4 is finished, Skyward 4 has been started, and Mistborn playing cards are up for preorder! Additionally, all orders have been shipped for the tenth anniversary Kickstarter for The Way of Kings. (Summary's a bit late, due to school stuff, but this turned out to be fortuitous, as Brandon's newsletter today contained some announcements of its own to put in.) You heard that, Sunreach, the first of the Skyward Flight novellas written by Brandon and his friend and former student Janci Patterson, is officially out in both eBook and audiobook formats! It takes place around the end of Starsight and start of Cytonic, from the viewpoint of FM. You can find links to order it on Penguin Random House's website, alongside the rest of the series. In case you missed the previous announcements, ReDawn (the second novella, which follows Alanik) will release October 26th, Cytonic (the third full novel, which of course follows Spensa) will release November 23rd, and Evershore (the third novella, which follows Jorgen) will release December 28th. The update also clarified a point of minor confusion: the recommended reading order is release order, and even if you wait on the series for the print collection of all three novellas to release next year, it is suggested to start with Sunreach and ReDawn, and then break to read Cytonic before continuing on to Evershore. Publisher's blurb for Sunreach: That's not all, though–the Cytoverse train continues full speed ahead as Brandon has started outlining Skyward 4 (which he hopes to title Defiant). The goal is for the first draft of Defiant to be finished by the end of the year, and for the final book to release spring 2023. But wait, wasn't he working on something else already? Well, turns out the second draft of The Lost Metal is now complete! From here, the book will be sent to Brandon's editors and to the beta readers, and he will return to revise it with their feedback in the spring. The book is planned to have a fall 2022 release date. While we'll have to wait for a while yet for that book, we do have new Mistborn products in the form of the Mistborn playing cards by Kings Wild Project. A full article about those will be forthcoming [edit: it's up!], so for now I'll leave it at a link to their site, where you can preorder a set. As one preorder opens, another finally comes to an end: shipping for the The Way of Kings 10th anniversary Kickstarter campaign is now complete. While some packages are still in transit, most people should have received theirs, so Dragonsteel Books recommends that if you haven't, you should check your email (including spam or junk folders) to see if they contacted you about any problems shipping, and to reach out to your postal service. Let us know what you think of the novella in the Sunreach Spoiler Forum or the #sunreach-spoilers channel on our Discord server, and be sure to drop a rating and review on whatever platform you used to purchase it! The latest Weekly Update video (featuring special guest Janci) can of course be found on Brandon's YouTube channel, and a transcription will be able to be found on his blog in the coming days. You can also sign up for his newsletter via the form on his website, and the newsletter for Mainframe (Brandon's audiobook company, co-founded with his friend Max Epstein) via its MailChimp page. (You may have noticed this week's title is a bit different—originally this series started as just me summarizing the videos in a quick article format. However, I've more and more been adding other things, whether it's news Brandon didn't get to in his update or convenience improvements such as putting the book blurbs right here in the article body, and so I figured the title should reflect this.)
  14. The string of exciting news in the updates continues, as this week we got release dates and blurbs for all three Skyward Flight novellas and a cover for Sunreach (the first one), as well as a preview chapter for Cytonic! On a more somber note, Brandon went over and apologized for the bugs with the Mini-Con site (which we covered in our main post on the event). And of course, the progress bar for The Lost Metal ticks ever-upwards, now at 75%. Yes, you read that right, we finally have a cover for Sunreach, Janci Patterson's novella following FM (the first of three following various members of Skyward Flight around the events of Starsight and Cytonic). Without further ado, here it is: The novella is slated to release September 28th, barely over a week away! According to a press release from Gollancz, Brandon's UK publisher, the second novella (ReDawn, following Alanik) will release October 26th, and the third (Evershore, following Jorgen) will release December 28th. They will release simultaneously in eBook and audio, and the first two will be narrated by Suzy Jackson, who recorded the US audiobooks for the rest of the Skyward series (however, the narrator for Evershore has not been announced yet—thanks /u/Urithiru on Reddit for catching my mistake there). Additionally, Brandon plans to release all three novellas in a single print collection sometime next year. We also have blurbs for all three, which are copied below for your convenience. Warning: ReDawn and Evershore's blurbs contain spoilers for the previous novella(s), so click at your own risk. Sunreach ( preorder): ReDawn (preorder): Evershore (preorder): As if that wasn't enough Skyward news for one week, Tor.com has posted an excerpt from Chapter 1 of Cytonic (an earlier, much-changed version of the prologue and first chapter were previously released through Brandon's newsletter). It is currently unclear whether more preview chapters will be posted in the lead-up to the full novel's release on November 23rd or not. In other book updates, the second draft of The Lost Metal (Wax and Wayne book 4) is now 75% finished. After this draft, the novel will be sent to Brandon's writing group for feedback and further stages of revision, and it will eventually release in fall 2022. And lastly, Brandon explained and apologized for the bugs with the Mini-Con store. For more on that, you can read the updates to our main post on the event (which will celebrate the release of Cytonic). Now that we have the blurbs, which novella are you most excited to read? Which format will you be using, audio or digital? Let us know below or in the #events channel on our Discord server! Also, discuss the Cytonic preview chapter in the #noncosmere channel (as long as you spoiler tag it)! As per usual, the full Weekly Update video is on Brandon's YouTube channel and embedded below (though this week, much of the news comes from other sources), and the transcript will be on his blog when completed.
  15. Jam-packed Weekly Update this time! Brandon has released his schedule for FanX later this week, and the second draft of The Lost Metal has hit 70%. Cool stuff, wonder if there's anything else. I think that was all of it, right? Yeah that should be the las- fine, fine, I'll stop dragging it out. Biggest news (and reason this article is late ) is, we finally have details about the Dragonsteel Mini-Con! You can learn more about that in our article. Getting the smallest update out of the way first, the second draft of The Lost Metal is 70% done (that's the last draft before the book goes out to the beta readers). Progress will probably be slower this week due to the topic of the next announcement, but he is still on track to finish this draft late September or early October. In case you've missed it, the final version of the book is expected to release fall 2022. Next up, Brandon's schedule for FanX later this week has been released. Thursday, September 16th: Writing a Successful Series in Science Fiction and Fantasy 6:00PM in 250A Signing 7:00PM at Booth 1518 Friday, September 17th: Writers of the Future: Learn How to Engage Readers 1:00PM in 355B Intentionally Blank: The Brandon and Dan Podcast 3:00PM in 250A Signing 6:00PM at Booth 1518 Saturday, September 18th: Brandon Sanderson Spotlight Panel 4:00PM in 250A Signing 5:00PM at Booth 1518 Last but certainly not least, information on the Dragonsteel Mini-Con is finally out! As mentioned, we made a separate post about that you can read to find out more. Will you be attending either of these cons? Which one(s) and why? Feel free to discuss in the comments below, or in the #events channel on our Discord server! The full Weekly Update video is of course on Brandon's YouTube channel as well as below, and the transcript will be on his blog when done.
  16. After skipping last week due to assistant Adam being on a well-earned vacation, Brandon is back again with another Weekly Update, and I'm back again with another summary! First things first (well, it's a third thing really, but that's besides the point), Brandon has finished his draft of Evershore, aka the third of Janci Patterson's Skyward novellas set between Starsight and Cytonic. The novella—which follows Jorgen—will now be sent back to Janci for further editing, and is likely to release shortly after Cytonic itself comes out on November 23rd. In case you missed the last update, the first novella (titled Sunreach and following FM) will release late September or early October, and the second (titled ReDawn and following Alanik) should release sometime between Sunreach and Cytonic. They will initially only be available in audio and eBook formats, but a print collection is planned for sometime 2022. This is not the only writing he's been working on, however. He has returned to editing and revising the long-awaited conclusion to the Wax and Wayne series (often referred to as Mistborn Era 2), and so the second draft of The Lost Metal now sits at 50% on the progress bar. It is set to release Fall 2022. Last but certainly not least, Brandon has a new poll for you! His store has run out of copies of The Emperor's Soul, but before they reprint it, they would like input on how to do so. The first option is that they simply reprint the current edition of the book, with the original cover. Alternatively, they have been considering reprinting it in a shorter hardcover style, fitting alongside Edgedancer and Dawnshard on the shelf, and giving it a new cover inspired by that of the Graphic Audio edition. You can drop a vote for your pick via the Google Form, or follow this link to view the current tally. As always, the full Weekly Update video (which you can watch below) has been uploaded to Brandon's YouTube channel, and the full transcript will eventually be up on his blog when it's finished. Which cover did you vote for? Which of the three Skyward novellas has you most excited? Be sure to drop a comment below and tell us why!
  17. Hey all, Windrunner here with another news update post. Today we have the exciting announcement that Brandon has finished the first draft of The Lost Metal, the forthcoming final book in Era Two of Mistborn. Brandon's been at it for most of the summer and wrapped up the writing late last night, only a few days behind schedule for his target of the start of August (not that we're complaining). The word count of this draft is ~149,000 words, making it about 50% longer than the previous books in Era Two, which were all about 100K in length. This word count is obviously subject to change, the book still has revisions to go through before it will be in its final form. Before you get too excited, remember that this book's expected publication date is November 2022, so fans still have a little more waiting to do before they get their hands on this conclusion. Brandon hopes to launch into the second draft on Friday with the goal of cleaning it up and revising it before sending it off to his editor and beta readers for feedback. He hopes to have this draft done by mid-September Once he has those reactions in hand, he plans working through two more drafts, one to include this new feedback and a final draft to polish the whole book up, with the goal of turning it in by summer next year. While this isn't Brandon's normal breakneck release schedule, he is intentionally trying to give his team a little extra lead time on books going forward, as it is such a challenge to rush to release a book only a few months after it has been written. While these revisions are ongoing, Brandon now intends to turn his attention to writing Skyward 4 (tentatively entitled Defiant) for the rest of the year, with the goal of starting writing on Stormlight 5 at the start of 2022 (and fitting in the Rock novella Horneater somewhere in there to boot). In terms of other new details, Brandon's writing sprint last night was working on what he has called an "extra beefy" epilogue, writing the final three scenes of the book. Since this is the ending of this arc of the Mistborn series, he wants to give a little more time to the characters and setting since we will again be jumping forward in time on Scadrial for the eventual Era 3 series. This book also includes seven or eight Steris viewpoints, which if you're a Steris fan like me, is a big step up from the previous books. For those of you who enjoyed the "shameful ribbon" tease for RoW, Brandon's context-less spoiler for The Lost Metal is that there is a minor plot point involving a desiccated frog. So now that we have that major reveal in hand, and now have various sundry theories about Adonalsium being a spiked frog, feel free to head over to our Discord channel or the forums and to chat with us and speculate about The Lost Metal and future cosmere releases! 18. We've got another news roundup, with some news on Brandon’s writing progress on Skyward 3 as well as The Lost Metal, the fulfillment of The Way of Kings Kickstarter, and future publications of Brandon’s works in other formats. A lot of this info comes from Brandon’s four most recent weekly updates (see his Youtube to watch them). Brandon also participated in another spoiler free livestream. You can check out the recording of the stream here, and our summaries of a few of the questions asked on Arcanum. It looks like the next spoilery livestream is tentatively scheduled for June, with regular non-spoiler streams taking place the first week every month going forward. For even more detail on the new info from these weekly updates, read on below! Brandon writing progress and other project updates: Fourth and fifth drafts of Skyward 3 were completed since last update, the book has been turned into the publisher as of March 31, with an anticipated release date sometime in November. Release date, cover, and title reveal are coming as the marketing team decides to release them. The Lost Metal (Wax and Wayne #4) prewriting began on April 1, with Brandon spending two weeks trying to make sure the character, setting, and plot all worked out well and made sense within the logic of the cosmere and his goals for Scadrial. Writing has begun on The Lost Metal, progress bar is currently sitting at 3%. General plan is 3-4 months of writing, followed by 3-4 months of revision. Brandon has been working on some unspecified videogame related stuff that he cannot announce at this time. He’s teased this a bit in livestreams before, but we have no details. Videogame projects have fallen apart before, so don’t hold your breath here. 19. Today Brandon replied to some Reddit threads about his 2020 plans after he finishes Rhythm of War, and talked about the timeline for The Lost Metal! Hooray details, hooray Brandon being transparent with us. Please note that these aren't surefire things, and this is the "perfect world" sort of scenario. First up: looks like Rhythm of War is taking a week or so longer than planned, with its turn in date now being July 10th (it was originally July 1st). The Stormlight novella, which will part of The Way of Kings leatherbound kickstarter tiers, will be up next. Brandon plans to write it mid-July to mid-August, beta read it late August, and then do revisions in early October. Lastly, the copyedit done mid-October, to get to people a month before Rhythm of War. To me this is a pretty tight timeline, and Brandon does admit things can slide and he'll try to be up-front about it. The novella may not be called Wandersail, as that is the ship's name, but this novella doesn't have to do with Hoid's story in The Way of Kings. Later in the year, he will work on Skyward 3, then with the goal to begin The Lost Metal, the fourth Mistborn Era 2 story, on January 1st, 2021. After that, it's the fourth and final Skyward book, with a target for starting on Stormlight 5 the following January. Also, Brandon wants to fit in a "quick draft" of Songs of the Dead (formerly Death by Pizza), and probably will push back a revision of The Apocalypse Guard a bit later. So, you know, I'd say that after Rhythm of War finishes, fitting in a novella, Skyward 3, Lost Metal, Skyward 4, that's pretty productive for the time in-between Stormlights. That doesn't even include any of the other projects, like Apocalypse Guard, Songs of the Dead, Alcatraz 6, or whatever else that might pop up. Sounds good to me. In case you missed it: Brandon posted a large blog post on The Way of Kings leatherbound Kickstarter, which has updated tiers from what we previously reported. The Kickstarter goes live July 7th!
  20. Ok guys Maybe this theory has been broached before but could Mistborn make an appearance in TLM , the final book of the Wax and Wayne Tetralogy. Now , we know the Set has been gathering allomancer women from less diluted bloodlines in order to breed a Mistborn. But the biggest problem is that it will take time , maybe decades or even a century before the required results are generated. However , there is a way to bypass this . Bendalloy mistings !!!! Suppose you get a woman pregnant and get her in the presence of a bendalloy Savant or atleast a Flarer . A few days worth of time would be diluted to months . In that time , the woman would give birth , recover and would be ready to be impregnated again. Then you could apply the same process on the kids , to accelerate thier growth. You could have the bed , books , bathroom , etc within a 5 foot radius or the guy could just drop the bubble when the kid moves and put up new ones. Tutors , nannies , brainwashers , trainers in most of the allomantic metals could work in the bubble as well. Things could be wilder if you have two or more sliders slowing time at the same instant. This could lead to further time compression. ( This is confirmed btw either in the coppermind or via a WoB ) Or you could have a Nicroburster to speed things along. Then there are those allomantic grenades . For training in metals like iron , steel , tin and maybe pewter , you would need effort in real time but most of the other activities could occur in the time bubble. Also they won't have to focus on all the kids all the time. Suppose you speed time along until a specific age , say puberty ( if that's still the age of allomantic maturity after Harmony's intervention ). Then you could check if the kid's an allomancer. If he /she is just a misting or a normie , they will be dropped from the time dilation program. They would then be used for breeding. Bendalloy and nicrosil mistings however could be recruited into the operation. Then suppose you get a Mistborn kid , you could then allocate all your sliders to working on him in a super bubble. The kid herself could burn bendalloy with duralumin to gain more time and Nicroburst her fellow Sliders. A Century worth of time could be compressed into a few years. Now let's go over the probable setbacks : One ). Hiring the required Sliders. Now not every slider will be crazy about aging decades in a timebubble , but : I ). A few might be dedicated to the Set and will do the job. II ). Many would agree to it for adequate financial compensation for themselves or more likely for thier loved ones. III ). Others could be blackmailed or tortured or they and thier loved ones could be threatened. There will be guards loyal to the Set with them , of course , to make sure they don't indoctrinate rebellion in the kids and to keep them at gunpoint IV ). The Sliders who aren't daunted by death or torture or threats could be used to harvest hemalurgic spikes which would then be granted to loyal members or desperate victims of the Set who are willing to do the job. V ). As time goes by , some of the kids will turn out to be Sliders , powerful ones too , since they will have purer blood. They will already be brainwashed by the Set and since that's the life they will be used to , I guess they won't be too daunted about becoming Bendalloy Savants. Same applies for the Nicrobursters. VI ). Also I have this theory. Like suppose there's a Slider who can create a bubble 5 feet across and a pulser ( cadmium misting , ex : marasi ) with a lesser radius ,say 2 feet. Could they both put up buubles while standing within 2 feet of each other . Within the two feet radius , the two metals will cancel each other's temporal disparities. But within the 2-5 feet radius , time will be diluted and slow. _______________ _______________ Two). The required metals . Now I'm guessing you will probably need tonnes of metal for the operation. Bendalloy is an expensive metal as is duralumin and Nicrosil. But as we know I ). The Vanishers have already stolen tonnes of the stuff II ). Seeing the Set is comprised of members who are far from destitute, ( the Vanishers real goal was to destroy the solvency of House Tekiel and to kidnap the women ) so I don't think it will be hard for them to acquire the metals , especially if the operation yields promising results. III ). The Southern Scadrians might have developed better , far more efficient and economic methods for cadmium and bendalloy production. _____________ ____________ ___________ The Set might expand thier ambition from beyond luthadel to the entire world of Scadrial. It could actually be how we get to know about the SSc. Mistborn operatives raiding to gain tech and the SSc requesting aid from Elendelite metalborn like Wax , Wayne , Marasi and the kandra . This would give us PoVs on the society , culture , politics , history , technology of the SSc and maybe on kelsier too. So what do y'all think ? Could the fourth book have a Set Mistborn trying to overtake the government ? Does Telsin or Steris's cousin's children or grandchildren or great grandchildren go up against Marasi and Wax and Wayne ? It would an interesting dynamic , Wax and Marasi going against thier own grand niece or nephew. If my theory is true , the implications could be terrifying. Imagine Mistborn on the level of Spook or stronger , with access to all 16 metals !!!!!! Not to mention they might have hemalurgic spikes for F-gold allowing them to compound and become indestructible They could also have spikes granting them greater allomantic abilities. They could have F- iron , allowing them to compound weight and thier steelpushes to become more destructive than Wax could dream of. They could survive the ironpulls too , via gold or steel compounding. There is even a slight chance that they might acquire F-chromium as well. Especially if the terris elders form the backbone of or atleast are members of the Set as another one of my pet theory states . Then of course, the medallion tech might be used to compound as well. ________________________________________ And finally i believe this plotline could explain the book title as well. This is probably not true but eh..... At the beginning , before they find out the truth , the sudden appearence of the Mistborn might lead to many speculating that the reason for the sudden reappearence of Mistborn is Lerasium or diluted Lerasium whatever that is or isn't . So Lerasium is , The Lost Metal. The operation and goals make perfect sense. It doesn't violate any law of space , time or investiture and it is seriously dramatic. I would like to thank @king of nowhere @Honorless, @The traveller , @aneonfoxtribute, @Ookla the Prolific. For pointing out flaws in my theory and helping me make it better in the comments.
  21. As the title says, who do you think will be join Wax on the cover of The Lost Metal?
  22. Are we SURE it's Odium attacking Harmony at Scadrial? If Harmony had to divest himself of power to keep them away from Odium. He has admitted to being trapped and at odds with his dual natures in the final Letter in Oathbringer. I wonder what character he might choose as successor? Have you? Any thoughts?
  23. I think I have figured something out, although this is in no way confirmed. I was re-reading HoA and I was pondering hemalurgic spikes in Kandra. Now we know that Kandra Blessings are two spikes which together grant sentience and a power of some kind. In SoS Bleeder uses unknown methods to not only grant herself Feruchemy speed while only using one spike. However, I always thought it was odd that she also manifested a power we have only seen Ruin and Harmony use up to this point. She takes moments to speak to Wax in his mind. At the time I just kinda went with it, it was an exciting time in the story. However, I realized that this should have sent up several red flags. I mean, not only does she use the metallic arts which we thought was impossible, but then she invades Wax's mind like that. That's not even a power we have observed a mortal being using before! Here is where I will delve into the interviews with Brandon. There was a question about ReLuur, and if one of his spikes is Atium. TLDR: RAFO http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt='reluur' Now, this is obviously about a different Kandra but we know they know more than they are telling Wax and Wayne at the moment. It seems likely that Atium in some form is still accessible to some Kandra. This is what really holds my theory out. You see, I was contemplating the fact that Brandon has written sayuing that you could make alloys with both Larasium and Atium and produce 16 alloys. We know that the Laraseium alloys make Mistings, and it's been hinted that Atium alloys would have various temporal effects. So here is the long and short of it all: Bleeder's single spike might steal the possible abilites of the Atium-Brass Alloy Now the spike itself might not actually be made of that material since it's hemaleric in nature. But I believe it steals the powers of burning Atium-Zinc or Atium-Brass allomancers. This is a stretch but let me walk you through what we know: 1. Bleeder can somehow talk in the minds of thoses spiked with Hemalergy. 2. Bleeder cannot be using more than one spike while she does this. 3. Bleeder has knowledge of Hemalergy that is far beyond the current understanding of Harmony's people (as far as we know). 4. Bleeder's spike was made of an unknown metallic alloy. Now the power of speaking in minds is a bit of a stretch, but it certainly seems like a possibility of a twisted external mental allomantic ability. It also feels more like a pushing rather than a pulling ability. I mean, that is the most realistic explanation for this strange and invasive ability. *Edit: Thanks to some awesome readers, I have seen references that clarify that Bleeder's spike is made from a metal that Harmony doesn't know. However, this doesn't change the foundation of the theory. Thanks to those who took the time to source the quotes!* As my final point of support in this theory, I will need to delve into Secret History here: So there it is, I have no idea how viable this is, or where exactly the atium came from. It either has reappeared or it was salvaged from an older stash. But I am happy I finally got this out there. It's such a cool concept to think about. I wonder how this could be applied in combat, and if there is a limited range that this communication is restricted to. *Edit: Changed my wording for clarification.
