Glyphs for Profiles
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Awesomeness Summoned's topic in Creator's Corner
I've been trying to come up with ways to integrate the KR glyphs with their respective gemstones and it's proven to easily be the most difficult design so far. I wanted to make it look like the glyphs were glowing from inside the gemstones but the picture in my head seems to be beyond my photoshopping knowledge. Working on Metacognition's personal avatar and the 17s icon gave me some ideas that turned out alright I guess. The problem is that I've gone through so many alterations I'm not sure I could recreate this with the other glyphs and it would take a lot of time to make each one. So, let me know if you think it looks good and worth the time to make the others or if I should scrap it. -

The Art of Game Creation
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I was thinking the forgers would be like soothers or rioters. They stamp someone's personality for a day to change how they vote. I like Meta's idea better though. Allows for some interesting dynamics. It would be really funny if you stamped the Dakhor without knowing it and not only would they gain the ability you gave them but they would actually not be a Dakhor anymore for that day. -

The more days go by, the more it's starting to look like our characters would be more effective at snooping out the inquisitor if our chosen meeting place wasn't a bar... no offense to our gracious patron of course.- 1232 replies

It's possible. I personally am of the belief that the humans aren't endemic to Roshar but were instead brought or banished there sometime in the past based on their beliefs about the tranquiline halls and that the other life on the planet is so different from humans.

Anyone else wish WoR flashbacks weren't Shallans?
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Benjibooboo's topic in Stormlight Archive
Nothing against Shallan, but if a worldhopping immortal, who currently goes by the name Wit, can't tromp a 17 year old girl who's been a shut in most her life in a battle of Wits, I'll be losing quite a bit of respect for Hoid. -

Awesomeness Summoned replied to Benjibooboo's topic in Stormlight Archive
I assume that if she was in the scenes, yes her name would be given. The only way her name would be missing is if the flashbacks were actually Dalinar remembering the events. The flashbacks in WoK seemed more like jumps in the story timeline rather than Kaladin remembering the events so, unless Brandon changes the format, I'm sure Dalinar would remember her name in any scenes that take place before he went to the night mother. -

I feel that the inquisitor is far more likely someone who pushed for shimble to be taken out than one of the inactives but I have no more direct insights than that for suggesting someone specifically. I understand the reasoning for knocking out the inactives though so I'll go with the group and vote Digits.- 1232 replies

Glyphs for Profiles
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Awesomeness Summoned's topic in Creator's Corner
Yeah, the light beams didn't turn out exactly how I envisioned them and then they made it hard to read the number. I attempted to rectify with a few blending layers but, as you say, they did end up looking a bit featherish. I went back and reduced the beams a bit and added some alternative lighting effects. This any better? -

The only reference I can find is a statement by Peter HERE. A few people said Brandon himself confirmed it at a signing event but Peter's is the only one I can find (not that its any less applicable coming from him).

I was actually thinking the opposite, that a chasm run would be the ideal time for Szeth to strike. At camp, not only does Dalinar have the personal guard but he is in the middle of literally thousands of troops. Szeth could kill him in that situation but would have an extremely difficult time getting away after the task is completed. On a chasm run, though, he just waits until the troops are all engaged with the parshendi then he just has to deal with the guards. After killing Dailanar and his guards he can run in any direction across the plains without hinderance. Dalinar doesn't participate in the attacks anymore but, as seen in the WoR excerpts, he does attend them occasionally. The cover for WoR somewhat backs up the location being on the plains but they aren't exactly canon either so may not be an exact depiction of the scene.

I was actually kind of happy to read that. It came in the typical Brandonesque fashion where Dalinar is convinced the Almighty is telling him to unite the High Princes. He's been putting all his energy into uniting them (almost getting killed in the process) but as it turns out he was just supposed to be reforming the radiants. It doesn't appear that Dalinar even recognized the discrepancy. He's still got the KR as a goal but it still seems to be only a side project and is still working to unite the princes under his rule.

I had forgotten about the Unmade so that could very well be in reference to previous champions of Odium I always thought this vision was describing the Heralds standing against an army of listeners. They are described as white/red or black/red marbled so a large force would fit as a wall of those colors coming at you.

I think perhaps you would be happy in the Steelheart universe.

Darn it moogle I was just putting together some similar musings of my own on those quotes but you beat me to the posting. Guess I'll just post here rather than start a new topic. It would have been entitled "An Easy Guide to Being Less Odious". I was re-reading some of the excerpts the other day and when reading the following statement by Tanavast... ... I saw the statement in a new light and had some ideas on defeating Odium. I had assumed from previous reads that Odium usually appoints a champion, similar to how the Dragon and Moridin scenario went in WoT. It sounds instead like Odium hasn’t ever chosen a champion in the past. That is why he always loses. While being vastly powerful, the shards can’t directly interfere too much on a planet where other shards are present (as evidenced by Vin and Ruin’s interactions). The only way to play a direct role is to infuse some power into a proxy who is fully in the physical realm. Honor chose to create the Heralds with Jezrian being the official “champion” and got the bonus of the spren creating the radiants. This allowed Honor to always win the bouts. The downside was that when the Heralds gave up and broke the bond, they splintered some of Honor’s power and weakened him enough for Odium to have the upper hand and ultimately kill him. Odium feared the same thing happening to him in the past if he chose a champion but now, with Honor out of the way and being desperate to finally win the desolation, he might choose one. Dalinar’s goal then is to rally Honor’s “unintended” champions, the radiants, and make Odium desperate enough to send part of his power into a physical being as well. Somehow sever that champion from Odium and his power might be diminished enough for Cultivation, along with some help from Honor’s splinters, to finally defeat/imprison/banish him permanently. Thoughts?

My interpretation from the two times he's talked about it is that he is specifically talking about uniting the Radiants. I'm sure uniting the kingdoms would be helpful too but Or I guess he could be specifically saying unite the spren with the KR

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
We stepped out into the morning light and took in a deep breath of relief. What happened to Shimble still weighed heavily but he was determined to make use of the second chance at life he'd been given. The fact that no one else had died last night was a sign that things were looking up right? For some reason he couldn't quite convince himself. His faith in Peng had been damaged a little by the previous day's events but he couldn't deny that the mistborn was still their best chance of survival. As long as he could put a little more reasoning and conviction into future accusations, Wes was willing to follow his lead. He set off down the street determined to uncover some rumor or clue that might help them uncover the truth. Perhaps he'd scrounge up enough loose change here and there for a nice big breakfast as well.- 1232 replies

Such a funny statement in itself when we are talking about his characters but point taken. Maybe something more like "these are just the most commonly held pronunciations. Sanderson himself endorses the reader's own interpretations." IDK, just something to denote they are not WoB but a reference to how they are commonly pronounced would be nice.
-
Maybe just put a disclaimer at the top of "These are just suggested pronunciations based off of Sanderson's own readings. He fully endorses the reader creating their own interpretation", or something like that. I think it is a good idea in general. There have been many books that I wanted to know how the author pronounced things and it was immensely difficult to locate that information.

I'm just hoping it will delay his plans to become the new red god. I think Red God Andross would have been able to reap all kinds of havoc. -
I'm not really sure why, but THIS is my highest (non icon creation related) post ever. At the time I really didn't think it was a particularly noteworthy thought, just something I'd like to see. Not gonna argue with the up votes though. To date, the post I'm most proud of is still the first one I made after my intro.
