^^^This. Ever since it occurred to me just how perfect Shallan's natural artistic and nature cataloging abilities are for a lightweaver I've been dying to see what kind of chaos she is gonna cause for people. She'll make Loki look like a cheap hack when it comes to illusions.

Actually, a shardarrow seems like it would be quite devastating on the battlefield. If it passed through people and kills them like a shardblade, you could take out dozens of men who are lined up in battle ranks. Granted, you'd have to be a bit closer to the battle lines than what you were suggesting for a shot like that to work.

Kaladin able to nullify Szeth's Lashings?
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Like most other forms of investiture we have seen, such as breathes and feruchemy, I would imagine once someone places their "signature" on it, only that person can recover it. I doubt he can absorb Szeth's lashings but he could absorb all the available stormlight around. He can hold stormlight longer than Szeth so he would just have to outlast Szeth's absorbed stormlight to win.- 11 replies

I'm not really worried about there not being enough time for Kaladin to train. There has been more than enough evidence to show he is an extraordinary fighter and is good at adapting to new situations. He faced a shard bearer with just a spear and won. In the most recent excerpt he showed he can be creative with his new abilities. He's also already learned about full lashings and reverse lashings. He just needs to figure out partial lashings and he at least understands all of Szeth's abilities, thus can adapt to them. Even if he isn't as profient as Szeth, with that much knowledge, his natural fighting skill, and (in my opinion) him being stronger in raw power due to being an actual bonded radiant, I see him having no troubles holding his own.

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Seriously, I still don't understand the logic that we have to kill someone or nothing is accomplished. If everyone had just agreed with Peng and killed me, what would we have learned? I wasn't the inquisitor? Great, but we also have one less person the inquisitor has to eliminate before final victory. All in all, its pretty much zero net gain and we are back to square one. If Peng had no ideas based on his knowledge from people's roles, he should have waited to make a choice. He could have listened to us voice suspicions and steered us away from people like the coinshot. If a real suspicion formed, make that the vote. If no suspicions arose that he couldn't already account for, let the vote pass, and verify more non inquisitors in the night by assigning people various roles (I can think of quite a few ways to do this but would rather not voice them out loud). Plain and simple, Peng shouldn't have campaigned to be the decision maker if he wasn't going to do the job.- 1232 replies

Not a 100% sure I understand what you were trying to get across but I think I got the gist of it. That could put an interesting twist on achieving time travel. You don't really go anywhere, you just have to convince the current time that it is really the time you want to be in.

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wes sat in the corner stunned and bewildered. He felt immense gratitude for those who had stepped up and protected him and was still having troubles convincing himself he was still alive. It had been a close thing. he glanced at shambles body out of the corner of his eye and looked away quickly. This wasn't what I wanted. I just wanted to live, not have someone else take a knife in the back instead. He hadn't held a knife, merely sat back wide eyed and stunned while it all happened, but he still felt like he should be washing something off his hands. This all goes back to what was said awhile ago, killing anyone with no information was pointless and liable to dig ourselves in a hole. Wes was the safest kill, yes, but a kill at all just gets rid of one more person the inquisitor doesn't have to worry about. What we should have done is voice suspicious for half the day then Peng make a choice based on the debate. Instead, he said I'll listen to debates, waited 15 minutes, chose Wes (and admitted he had no reason to), and then left us with no direction for the rest of the day. Sorry, but even if I wasn't on the chopping block I wouldn't have gone along with that- 1232 replies

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Not sure if this is too late but I'm going to retract my vote for Quillion as well. I mainly just did that to create a lock and force some more discussion. I also don't think killing anyone without good reason accomplishes anything and only helps the inquisitor. Therefore, I vote Kill no one. If I still end up being sent to the axeman at this point, I'm fine with it. Just didn't think it was right to follow Peng blindly when he didn't have any good reason for his choice. we've had some good debates now so I'm satisfied.- 1232 replies

Glyphs for Profiles
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Awesomeness Summoned's topic in Creator's Corner
In honor of Brandon's first published work, the Aon glyph set is finished. This is sort of how I pictured them when Raoden painted them in the air. There are too many of them to give a preview of all 33 glyphs but the first 15 are displayed below. The links for the entire set are after the preview. The design and meaning for all of them can be found on the coppermind. (Nothing against your design Serendipity, I do like it, but I've been working on these off an on the last few days and finished them shortly after your post). Yeah, I had that in mind for a future project. I'm trying to show some love for some other cosmere books first though and then I'll come back to stormlight and see if I can come up with something interesting for the gems. -

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I was under the impression that the reason we were giving roles to Peng was so he could verify people's abilities behind the scenes. I can think of quite a few ways to manipulate the inquisitor into making mistakes just knowing everyone's claimed role, and being able to assign tasks to people. I fail to see how killing someone by vote without any real suspicion (as Peng said was the case) really gains us any information. The first night we had no information so didn't vote. The night actions, though, allowed us to verify Peng's claims and I'm guessing helped Peng identify the coinshot, seeker, and lurcher. So, information was gained without losing a fourth person on top of the three we did lose. Tonight, Peng can assign tasks to those he's identified and verify more people as trustworthy or untrustworthy. Based on that, he makes suggestion for vote the next day. Everyone goes with his choice because he has information we don't. Thats what I thought the plan was. Why should we blindly follow Peng's advice if he's not basing it on anything he learned from his role as mistborn? His guess is no better than anyone else's at that point, especially since not everyone has sent him their roles. Now, if I've done or said something that truly makes Peng suspicious of me, ok. If he has some master plan going on behind the scenes and killing me helps with that, great. If this message in itself makes him suspicious, so be it. I'm fine with be a sacrificial lamb if it helps out the crew, and gains real information. Just send me a pm saying you have a good reason, Peng, and I'll zip it from here on out. Please don't tell me, though, that you are putting me up for vote "just because". If that is so, Harmony should have blessed us with a different mistborn. That gains you no real information other than scratching me off the list as the inquisitor. In addition, you are one more person down. Since i'm already in the crosshairs I'll go ahead and lay all the cards on the table. As Wilson guessed, I am just a regular villager. Yes, if you're going to kill someone, a regular villager is the safest bet cause it doesn't allow the Inquisitor to pass an ability but it also gains you absolutely nothing if you have no reason for it. It'll be upsetting if I trusted Peng enough to send him my role and then he axes me just because I'm expendable.- 1232 replies

Yes, they probably wouldn't want to face an Alethi with an honorblade in battle but they are far more scared of what Gavilar was attamepting to do. They'd rather have a surgebinding Alethi than their old gods come back. The fact that Gavilar is so formidable in battle is probably the reason why they chose to send Szeth. It was a one shot deal for them. As soon as they tried to kill Gavilar they'd be at war and wouldn't get a chance at him again before he followed through with whatever plans they feared from him. They had to send Szeth to leave no doubt that the assassination would be successful. Giving the Alethi an honorblade was a risk they were willing to take.

Are the larger words the ones used most often in the book and the smaller the least? or do you have a say on which ones are prominent?

Long Game 2: The Devil's Den
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wes was busy sketching a picture while the argument continued. Drawing always helped him think and at this moment his life depended on some hard thinking. "What was that now?" His mind had been wandering from the conversation but he suddenly perked up when his name was throne into the hat by none other than Peng, the one everyone else was saying they would defer their vote to. "Why me?" "I haven't done anything inquisitory-like have I? Wasn't I the one that delivered Modeft's note? You all wouldn't even know about the poison if it wasn't for me." Wes had even spoken to Peng in private about how he might help with any plans he had. He didn't know what else he could do to convince the others. All he could do was try and shift the focus elsewhere. As his gaze passed over all the faces staring back at him, he just couldn't think of anything concrete to make an accusation on. He gazed down at his picture and gave a shrug when an idea came to him. "I don't really have any facts to base this on but if people are gonna start throwing around names, I say Kukri is the inquisitor! Why you say? Because...." He stuck the picture to the wall and sat back down. It might have been a little stupid but for some reason he just thought of Kukri when he looked at the picture he'd drawn and he had nothing else to go on. Seriously though, nothing personal Kurk, but I don't want to die the second day of my first time playing a forum game Edit: forgot to add colors- 1232 replies

I'm not so sure you can say it is CLEARLY pulling not pushing. That force being created is because the molecules want to reach equilibrium. Things are more dense and at higher pressure outside the bottle so those extra molecules outside want to force their way inside. The egg blocks them from entering and in turn is held in place by their mad rush to get to the area of least density (inside). But you are right, that vacuum effect does not create a huge amount of "pushing" force on the outside of the egg so my assumption that Lopen would have difficulties breathing is likely not correct even if it's air pressure creating it. I'll admit I'm not a physics major so I could be off on the process but that's how I understand that vacuum effect to be working

I've actually been thinking this for a while, especially since the last excerpts, but hadn't had the time to break the theory down so up vote for saving me the trouble. It always seemed to me that the three lashings couldn't possibly be all you could do with gravity and air pressure manipulation and sticking things together with air pressure seems like the least creative use of that ability, especially when you can conceivably do the same thing with gravity effects. The term lashing in itself suggests to me pulling on something, not pushing. Teft mentions rumors of KR flying and they play that off as just fanciful tales but that would be easy to accomplish with Kaladin's surges. An airplane flies due to lower air pressure above the wing than below creating lift. Reduce the gravity on yourself, place some air pressure behind you as well and flight is easy. I also picture kaladin blasting people away from him with surges of air pressure expanding out from him I'll take the theory a little further even to suggest Szeth might only have access to the gravity surge. If a full lashing is only gravity, then he hasn't shown the ability to use any of the air pressure surges. He seems extraordinarily versed in the lashes so why would he have no knowledge of how to use the pressure surges as well if he can in fact access them.? Edit: adding to your descriptions from the book on when people were lashed to the wall, in order for air pressure to be holding them there as strongly as described, they would have been feeling an enormous amount of force on their chests. They likely wouldn't have been able to breath. Instead they act like nothing is different except their back being stuck to the wall. Chapter 12 paints a pretty clear picture that air pressure is not used for the full lashing

Perhaps the other orders abandoned their posts in a "quieter" manner than those two did. They could have just left their shards behind in places where they wouldn't have been discovered right away. The general public would notice that the numbers of KR joining the fights had diminished but might not have realized right away it was only the windrunners and stonewards showing up. All they cared about was that KR were fighting. Those two orders were the only orders to discard their shards in such a spectacular manner that obviously showed they were quitting.

Face palm. Yeah, forgot about the back cover. Pretty obvious based on that

Can I get a little more exposition on why that can be assumed? I've heard a few people connect him with bondsmiths but have never really seen the "facts" behind it.

Whenever I put up new icons I usually set my own pic to one just to make sure the link is working well and that the icon looks good in the different profile pic sizes. Plus it's advertising my new work a bit. I usually go back to my personalized version shortly thereafter though. -
