Glyphs for Profiles

This one was more of a "eh why not?" since the decal on Sanderson's store is a pretty high quality jpg. Only took about two minutes to make the png and svg for them so for anyone that wanted to play with them, here it is (hyperlink is for the svg): Stormlight Archive Decal: -

Sorry about that. Hadn't even noticed illustrator had white backgrounds set for those. They should all be fully transparent now. -

Glyphs for Profiles
Awesomeness Summoned replied to Awesomeness Summoned's topic in Creator's Corner
It depends on if you are looking at the cap on Brandon's apparel site with the symbol flat or flipped up. There are actually two pictures on the site that make it confusing which is the correct orientation. Peter confirmed Shash should be on the bottom which would put the wavy glyph on the left making it Sas and the glyph that looks like an arrow on the right which would make it Nahn. I originally had them reading as Nahn Sas from left to right. Edit: I see where the confusion might have been. It looks like I had the two symbols reversed on the file with all three on it. I fixed that error so now everything should be correct. -

Thanks for getting that information. I switched the file names but for some reason I can't get the images swapped on the coppermind. I can't delete the old files and it doesn't like that i'm uploading a file that exists in an entry already. Could you make the swap for me? I'll add the links to the corrected svg files here: Sas and Nahn Edit: Nevermind. Got it worked out. -

Last two chapter heading glyphs are finished. Shallan's glyph is a little sketchy. The original had a lot of detail and shading so difficult to turn into a vector. Again, the pictures link to the png and the hyperlink links to the svg. Kaladin's Chapters: Shallan's Chapters: -

Well, as I said, it only took like ten minutes to convert those so not a big deal. If you want them for the wiki, a zip file with the full set of svg's is HERE. If not, no worries. -

I had been holding off on those two because I hadn't yet gotten official confirmation which was which. I don't know if the glyphs on Kaladin's brands would be read left to right or vice versa so their names could be switched. Guess it's a simple fix if I'm wrong so went ahead and uploaded those svg's onto the wikia. I noticed the Alethi alphabet in there were still png as well. I can make paths and svg's for those in no time if you'd like. -

I did the vector tracing for a couple of the chapter heading glyphs that were probably long overdue. The pictures are direct links to the high resolution png's and the hyperlink titles go to the svg vector files. Ten Spears Glyph: Used for interlude chapters other than Szeth pov's. Kholin Crest: Used for Dalinar & Adolin's pov chapters. I also made the individual glyphs that are used on the Kholin crest. Linil: Khokh: -
One of the things I actually enjoyed about books 2 and 3 is how Brandon managed to changed my feelings for TLR from loathing to pity by the end of the series. That dynamic was almost worth the read in itself. I wouldn't say the Big Bad is "nastier" than TLR but he is a more subtle and manipulative which makes him an interesting villain in his own right. Can't really say much more than that without giving too much away but I enjoyed the whole series.

Yeah, I don't normally do much in illustrator. I'm a lot more familiar with photoshop so just traced them in there and converted them to svg after the fact. Didn't think to add paths into the svg's so feel free to put those together sometime if you want. Edit: Paths were added to the svg files so they will scale effectively.

Honestly, I'm not sure I could improve that much on some versions that are already available such as This, This and This. It's a pretty intricate pattern and would take whole lot of time to retrace and then stylize. Edit: BTW, you know I lightened the KR glyphs a little? The actual glyph stands out a little better in the newer versions. -

Anyone happen to know which glyph is which for Kaladin's brands so I can have my files labeled correctly? Edit: NVM, I think I figured it out but please correct me if I have them wrong. -

I made some clean svg vectors that were much higher quality than what I had before. I uploaded the svg of the Bridge Four Badge onto the coppermind at the top of the Bridge Four page and I uploaded Kaladin's Brands on his page under the slavery section. Let me know if there is somewhere else you'd prefer those were. Here are the links for the svg files for anyone that wants to create with them: Bridge Four Badge || Kaladin's Brands (all) || Shash || Sas || Nahn The png file links in the post above now go to the higher quality versions of the vectors as well. Edit: Paths were added to the above svg files so they will scale correctly. -

Okay, I couldn't help myself so went ahead and threw together a design for the Bridge Four glyph burnt into wood. -
For all the creative types, I pulled some quick vectors from the new apparel if anyone wants to use the Bridge Four glyph or Kaladin's brands for some designs. They are all located HERE.

New apparel was released today in Brandon's online store that included the Bridge Four glyph and Kaladin's brands. I didn't see anywhere we had these symbols already available for people to play around with so I threw some quick vectors together from the apparel. They are rough and could probably use some edge refinement but will do for now. I'll likely play with some stylized designs down the line but for now, here they are for everyone else to create with. The pictures are smaller versions but if you click on them they link to high resolution versions. Bridge Four: Kaladin's Brands (together & separate): Edit: The edges have been cleaned up and higher resolution files uploaded. The above links work for the newer files. Here are the links for the svg files for anyone that wants to create with them: Bridge Four Badge || Kaladin's Brands (all) || Shash || Sas || Nahn Edit 2: Paths have now been added to the above svg files. -
Rosharan Genetics, We're talking hair.
Awesomeness Summoned replied to The Rooster's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, technically speaking, calico cats are (almost) always female. The pattern arises because the genes for color are on the X chromosome. During development the cells turn off one of the X chromosome but it is somewhat random so you get patches of cells with the white gene, patches with brown, and patches with a mix of the two. The only way the same effect would be happening with Adolin was if he had XXY phenotype which is rare and sadly mean he was likely sterile.Edit: ninja'd by Bremen- 22 replies

Awesomeness Summoned replied to The Rooster's topic in Stormlight Archive
You are correct. Black hair is a dominant trait and so, in normal earth human genetics, a mixture of black and blonde hair in the manner described for Adolin Is not possible. Fortunately Adolin isn't on earth and apparently they have different genetic markers for hair color than we do.- 22 replies

True, but I imagine it is an attempt to stay in theme with the fact that the site is named the 17th shard. -

The only ones of significance in the day are soothers/rioters but that would only matter if the vote was close which isn't likely this round so I'd agree with waiting until after the day is over- 1232 replies
