  1. I don't believe he has given a framework for the series but I gather from the already released chapters and interludes that the small conflict with the parshendi on the shattered plains will be a wrapped up for the most part in WoR and will move on to more global problems and conflicts.
  2. The only thing that makes me hesitant to believe this is that if there were that much of him still present in the storms, his recordings wouldn't be as static as they are in Dalinar's visions. It seems clear from Syl's comments in chapter 9 that the stormfather commanded the honorspren not to bond people. If he has enough of himself present to direct the spren, I would imagine he could be more helpful in Dalinar's visions. Edit: Plus, why would Honor tell the spren not to bond humans and also leave visions directing people to reform and unite the knights radiant.
  3. Uranus is an unusual case (no pun intended). It's extreme tilt is due to impacts by large objects that knocked it off kilter. Such impacts are far more likely in the outer planets that are too far away from the sun to sustain life. But your point is well taken... I was taking general solar system physics, treating them as absolutes, and then applying them to a work of fiction (heck, even earth's wobble along the axis is partly due to the large impact that created the moon). I have to attempt to get some use out my pointless science knowledge sometime though.
  4. Speaking of their nature, It also makes sense, being Honor spren, that whatever the KR did in the past to betray the spren would resonate the most with them. They would be far more reluctant to begin bonding humans again than the cryptics would.
  5. To me that's like saying he should just wait to release all ten books until the last one is finished . I'd rather have anything I can read as soon as I can read it. Plus, having these small tidbits makes the theory threads light up like christmas trees. Something to wet the appetite and make the wait bearable.
  6. Thanks for that Aether, that clears some things up. I guess a well that endows someone with godlike powers would probably have more effect than the planets natural electromagnetic forces, in which case the magnetic and geographic poles wouldn't need to line up
  7. I can't honestly remember specifically... does Rashek actually say the magnetic north pole and geographic north pole are different? Because again, by definition, that is impossible. The magnetic and geographic poles aren't in "exactly" the same place but both have to be near the point from which, if the planet is viewed downward, the surrounding planet rotates counterclockwise (well, magnetic north could be at the geographic south pole but that doesn't change the basic idea of the sun's path). All I remember is that he moved Luthadel to where the Terris mountains (in the north) used to be. That would change the land mass locations in relation to the poles but would't actually alter the poles in relation to how the planet rotates around the sun. Rashek was misleading but didn't actually alter the laws of physics in his deception.
  8. The only way the other directions would be arbitrary is if Brandon decided to change their definition. All large bodies in a solar system rotate and spin along the same flat plane as a natural result of basic physics. The planet's spin is what creates the polar field and will always have the "north" and "south" poles located at the top and bottom of the planet (along the axies the planet is spinning around). So while we wouldn't know if the sun rise from east or west, it can't, under the laws of physics, rise from north to south.
  9. As long as he only listens to things above the waste line, he shouldn't get into too much trouble.
  10. I like the idea of her flashbacks being experienced in real time as illusions instead of actual flashbacks like kaladin's were. That would allow her to work through the memories she has tried to suppress at the same time as the reader is experiencing them for the first time. It would also make that last sentence of chapter 6 a nice red herring, thinking she was going to be waking up to disaster on the ship when the "screams, smoke, and shouts" were memories. Guess we'll have to wait for the book release to learn if thats the case.
  11. In the newly released chapter, though, she thinks the voice that asked her for truth in shadesmar was not puppy (though she's not sure) so things are even more muddy on the sugject.
  12. To this point, no I do not believe we have seen any examples of an object's shape being changed. That may very we'll be a limitation of the users though and not a limitation of the ability. They don't have the technical knowledge or the creativity to accomplish that kind of change. I personally think Shallan is being set up to revolutionize the modern concept of soulcasting with her photographic memory, ability to reproduce things artistically, and the effort she puts into understanding how things work. Those talents would also help with the illumination surges if that does turn out to grant illusionary skills. Add in her shard blade and I think shallan will be a force to be reckoned with once she has had some training.
  13. I'd include with this the scene where Kaladin asks why he gave up the blade and Dalinar responds by asking what the value of a man's life is. The realization that Dalinar truly thought the blade a cheap price to pay for the bridgemen caused kaladin to question prejudices he'd held the entire book. Most of my favorite epic moments have already been mentioned so I'll add one more subtle moment that stuck with me... The scene in A Wise Man's Fear, after Kvothe was poisoned by Ambrose and the after effects are making him feel all the pain of losing his family. Throughout the series Kvothe was always taking care of Auri, making sure she was fed, clothed, and protected. To have her seek him out in that moment and the roles be reversed so that she was taking care of him, saying "I'm here. You're safe.", I thought was just a beautiful scene.
  14. One time, when a Mistborn was going to a Dragonwasp Legion meeting, he saw a grey Shardbearer in a dark alley, brutally slitting open a gigantic watermelon with a rusty Sliver of Honor. So, of course, the Mistborn burned the watermelon, lighting the Shardbearer's cape on fire, blue flames concealing it from his view. . The Shardbearer turns into a duck, ripping open the cosmere, and seeing a locked door emitting dark shine and Stormlight. The Shardbearer ran to get his Blade, tripping over duck beaks that littered the ground, breaking his neck. . The Mistborn howled at a monkey's attacks on his Mistcloak. Thrashing and struggling, he broke free, hitting the door with a llama and a koloss head, breaking it into splintery bits. The door floated down the river and ended in a black shardpool. . Meanwhile, the Shardbearer thrashed on the floor and died. . A shadowy figure hopped out of the Cognitive Realm and into the river. The Shadowy figure glowed with dark light and quietly said, "Where is Hoid?" . The Mistborn answered, "Where isn't he?" . At the same time, the Cognitive Realm was torn asunder by a massive Voidbringer. It killed many sprens that tried to intervene. . His metals spent, and his Stormlight stolen by a small green larkin, the shadowy figure, named "DARKNESS" the Evil Librarian, began building an altar out of cheese! This brilliant choice made many Epics weep with tears From the smell of their weakness. . Ookla the Mok rebuilt the door with the most evil thing possible in the Cosmere. The opposing force was a rhino cross-bred with Hoid an 16 different aspects of Odium as well as 14 of Ruin. . Unfortunately, a Shade flew in right in the middle of the giant altar, crushing the brilliant and wet kandra cheese container which exploded, spraying lemonade all over his tattered remains - hitting the large hippopotamus that was really just begging to become a Knight Radiant that bonds with Deathspren - and kills a poor, innocent chull. He [the Shade] launched it into the sky, where it grew three heads without even considering that the Heralds were notoriously unimpressed with him. Jezrien yelled, "How dare you throw a chull, you skunk eater!" At that moment, Kaladin threw his chull-sized suit, and despite the fact that Amaram already had his head shaved, Kal recognized him. He signaled to Lopen to eviscerate Amaram. Unfortunately, that was the Horneater's plan, before he became a Knight Radiant. . "I'm so confused," Amaram said, scratching the behind of his Chull. "I wanted him to narftle the Garthok!" he said, collapsing on the roof of Kredik Shaw. A nearby inquisitor - spiked with bananas - made drinks for the dinner party, who were confused about why Kelsier was late for everything. They jumped into bizarro Shadesmare. Unfortunately, bizarro Jasnah was merrily playing with a bead. . The bead was the cognitive aspect of Shai's stamp, made to reopen the dor to the Dor. Suddenly, the Dor burst through the stamp. Then the Dor opened a door. It was the invincible door that the Dor dared to defy by skipping and singing about the Dor by the Doors. So many doors flew in out of the doors that the Dor and all the doors passed by the holy tiger eating a door that had belonged to the owner of Hoid's flute. The tiger arose, spit the door with it's tail that it had stolen from an obnoxious spren named kanskjakalan that the ring had decided was too green. Because of this, he tried to form a bond with an orange tooth in the holy part of the tigers' tail, thus balancing out the tiger's tale. The circle was broken by Honor and Odium when Cultivation and Endowment went through their letter to Devotion for an appointment with the holder of Dominion and Ruin and Preservation so they could eat berries together. Hoid heard about the shard's party and brought along his latest girlfriend. A worldhopper named Pizza. The romance was quite cheesy but also spicy, especially since Pizza cast chilly flakes in a beer, which was laced with the unknown Shard of Bavadin that poisons anyone who tries to drink less than Pizza. Dinner was free if you cast chilli Pizza into oblivion, without belching. Drinking from the unknown Shardpool which looked quite infested with rabbits which were Mistborn, with sharp pointy hat, elderly chap sticks filled with the ultimate marmalade, and flossy was caught off guard. Suddenly a chasmfiend appeared; but, unlike normal greatshells, this one spoke Alethi which was perfectly cerulean in colour. "Hello good sir!" It said friendily. "I am the spirit guide who eats shin brains!" All the while it's monocle was magnificently magnifying his honorspren. It was magnificently magnified and named Lys. The magnifiantly magnifisent honorspren magnificently sighed; "Derek won't be joining our tea party." Pizza was disappointed; tea parties were better than Radiants at killing chasmfiends and like all... Of Hoid's girlfriends
  15. And if you like that, watch the rest of the "true facts about..." videos. They are all funny
  16. No just joking around. Figured that was where you were going so I was attempting a little reverse psychology of implying it would be a bad thing in hopes someone would actually create some horoscopes it to spite me. I think it would be rather entertaining to hear this group's mistborn horoscope ideas.
  17. Uh oh, you're going to inspire mistborn horoscopes if you aren't careful.
  18. That group really knows how to entertain themselves while they wait for the females to come back and take over caring for the eggs. It would have been better, though, if Morgan freeman was explaining what was going on.
  19. Unfortunately, he'd probably just pull out his Larkin and it would all be over. He doesn't seem to be too keen on theatrics. An actual fight with those two would be entertaining, though, if only to see what darkness can really do. Seems like all he's done so far was chase lift really fast which isn't all that impressive.
  20. Our current calendar is based on the relationship between the length of earth's days, the days in a year, and how long it takes the moon to orbit earth, not the seasons. It takes roughly 29 days for a lunar cycle and about 12 of those cycles occur in a year. Before the roman calendar, there were 10 months, likely for simplicity of the metric system. So the question would be if the scadrial calendar is designed to accurately portray the planet's natural cycles (in which case it would be different before and after harmony's ascension and changes) or if it's just based on an arbitrary metric in which case 16 seems the best guess to stick with the theme of the books.
