  3. So this isn't a complaint, but does anyone remember how Brandon once said that he expected TWoK to be the longest book in the series? Then he said he had to make WoR longer because he wanted to add in more awesome stuff due to the wait, but he expected the other books to be shorter. Now OB is on track to be the longest one yet. Lol. Again I'm not complaining because I loved every page of WoR.
  4. Random, but I just saw a 60 year old lady at the doctor's office reading Morning Star. I love this trilogy btw. And it only gets better after Red Rising. Totally unrealistic but who cares when it's so awesome.
  5. You must not have seen many film adaptations if you think the Hobbit movies are the worst.
  6. For a long time, it was Mistborn: The Final Empire. But then Words of Radiance just blew it out of the water.
  7. David Bowie without a doubt.
  8. I'm pretty sure Lucas also had to sign off on the death of
  9. So a possible 4 year gap between Stormlight Archive books...not a fan of that possibility and what it could mean for the future of Cosmere novels.
  10. The first two Reckoners books are my favorite of all of Brandon's "shorter" books, Cosmere or not. Although Bands of Mourning is close for me. The Rithmatist is alright but it's probably my least favorite Brandon novel that I've read. I've read the first two Alcatraz books so far and they're a lot of fun. I usually don't think that Brandon's humor works very well, but it mostly works in these books because they're so absurd.
  11. The Wheel of Time stuff in the Night Angel trilogy is pretty blatant. There's no way that Weeks was not influenced by WoT. I choose to see the similarities as homages.
  12. Reads the last 10 pages of a book first...
  13. I remember reading about a Star Wars planet in the EU that was the same way, only rotated once per year. I thought it was the planet of the Twi'lek, Ryloth, but Wookiepedia does not support that claim.
  14. Call me Steris, but I can't fathom not doing the proper research on a book before starting it. Even if I got a book I've never heard of as a gift, I would not start reading it until I confirmed that it is not a sequel.
  15. Why do people do this? I know I shouldn't care about what other people do, but people reading series out of order is one of my biggest pet peeves.
  16. Oh wait, I forgot Sebarial in Words of Radiance. He might be the only Brandon character who has made me laugh out loud.
  17. Hmm. I guess Lopen and Rock don't make me groan, so maybe one of them.
  18. You must not have read the Dresden Files series. I've read the first 4 Codex Alera books so far. I'd say they're good, not great. I think Butcher is better at writing short, pulpy stuff than bigger, epic fantasy. Codex Alera feels like action novels trapped in the too-big skin of epic fantasy. I say this as a huge fan of big epics; Codex Alera just feels a little off to me. Still quite enjoyable, though.
  19. Yup that was my plan, start with The Color of Magic, and if I didn't like it, try Guards! Guards! Luckily, I liked it and have read the first 7 books so far. Guards! Guards! is up next.
  20. The Final Empire, easily. Although the last couple hundred pages of Hero of Ages are the best part of the series.
  21. If it helps, I thought The Blinding Knife was much better than The Black Prism. I'm also reading the Discworld books in published order, and it's working out fine for me.
  22. I dropped American Gods halfway through. It just wasn't doing it for me. I liked the writing but the plot felt so meandering. However he had a short story in one of GRRM's anthologies, and I loved it. Hilarious. My next shot at Gaiman will be Good Omens.
