  1. The Illuminatus! Trilogy I plan on reading The Library at Mt. Char soon, and I've heard that one is quite strange as well.
  2. Wow. Gonna try my hardest to avoid these.
  3. Publication Order Always (in regards to WoT)
  4. Chain of Dogs is definitely one of the most popular threads in the series. On the Malazan forums you may have just seen a few contrarians like myself. This thread and Deadhouse Gates as a whole didn't really work for me (aside from that one scene at the end), but I plan on doing a reread soon and I think I'll enjoy the book more this time around.
  5. Glad you're liking book 8. For me the problem was not so much the philosophy, but the large focus on all of these very minor storylines within the huge world. I just wanted to get back to the epic stuff, which thankfully it does.
  6. For me the draw at the beginning of the series was the intricate world. I always enjoy diving into a new world, and this one was especially complex with all of the different nations, schools, religions, all with their own agendas. It was fascinating to me, watching them play off of each other, and trying to figure out how they all fit together.
  7. To most people I recommend starting with Mistborn, since it's easier to get into. But to a Bakker fan I'd say Stormlight. Keep in mind it's PG-13 compared to Bakker's R to borderline X. Sanderson isn't as talented a writer as Bakker, but this plotting and worldbuilding are a lot of fun.
  8. This is one of the best series out there; I put it up there close with Malazan and Stormlight Archive. But I have not yet read the newest one, The Unholy Consult.
  9. Can you PM me, just out of curiosity?
  10. I don't remember that many F-bombs in the Dresden Files. Maybe 3-4 per book?
  11. I wish more people were aware of this when they read the series. I've seen too many people stop after the 1st or 2nd book.
  12. For the Thor movies, I love the parts that don't take place on Earth. So I'm looking forward to Ragnarok.
  13. I started to feel the burn when I had around 4 shrines left. I had my sensor on for the last 30 or so, and luckily found all of the ones that weren't behind quests. I looked up the remaining quests online, and there were 2 that I felt pretty dumb about not coming across. When I finished I told myself I'm not playing for a long time. I don't think I'll be back for the summer DLC, but probably will check out the winter DLC.
  14. And you're only halfway through MT? Man the second half of that book is so good. I think of all the books in the series, MT is the one that continually gets better and better the farther you get. I know they all have great endings, but MT has the best escalation throughout the book IMO.
  15. That just reminds me of how bad a lot of the writing was in GoT seasons 5 and 6.
  16. I also thought 7 was the first book with major philosophical digressions. Well I guess 5 had them too, but it was a shorter and more focused book. Erikson leans way farther left than I do, but I don't really care. However if he leaned right, I bet a lot of people would be boycotting these books! I agree it's odd that every single character, no matter how educated, loves to debate philosophy and I agree that they're more modern than what the setting would indicate. But I've just come to accept that.
  17. I usually have more shock arrows than anything because of Lionels, so I use those more than regular arrows. I do buy arrows from Beedle sometimes when I stop by, partly because I'm at the point where I have too much money. Regarding Hynoxes, there's a much easier way to fight them:
  18. It's my #1 series (though it's possible Stormlight Archive can overtake it in the future).
  19. I don't like the character, but Daisy is fine.
  20. To be fair, I'm 99.99% certain that no one in the world has gotten all of those without looking them up.
  21. I'm now at 105 shrines. I don't know how some people managed to complete all of these shrines within a week or two.
  22. Gavin is probably my favorite character in Lightbringer as well. I have some issues with the series, but the worldbuilding in the last couple of books has been very different and excellent. I look forward to the conclusion, even though I worry that Weeks is falling into a similar trap as GRRM, Jordan, and Rothfuss where his books become bloated.
  23. Maybe more instances, but I think the sexual violence in Dust of Dreams and Forge of Darkness is more horrifying than the stuff in Second Apocalypse. I don't know, they're both pretty dark.
