  1. Ashyn's magic is disease based. But from the view of an outsider, it would seem to be the same as surges, if the outsider only knew of magic via surges. From the Silence Divine reading, people can float, change objects, and so forth, which are very similar to the surges of Gravitation and Transformation. My theory is that the disease functions like a low level spren. When the human is infected or bonded with the disease, it gives them something similar to a surge, until they recover and the bond dissolves.
  2. I would say because the spren can sense the damage that's done to the spiritweb (getting a spike also damages you), and are repelled by it.
  3. The only real difference between spren and Cognitive Shadows is how they got into that state. Once they're spaient bits of investiture, they're essentially the same thing, particularly the longer they spend in that form. I'm sure Odium could take back enough of his Investiture to force them to go Beyond, or just simply Beyond-stomp them due to the vastly greater power that he has.
  4. I always think of it the way some opals (hydrophane) work. These types of opals absorb water because they have microfissures throughout their structure. And if you dry them too fast, they will crack. So when the stormlight is withdrawn from a gemstone too quickly, it might crack and fracture too.
  5. Well if he's currently bound to a body, then it's no different than any other person, really. So if the spren is willing to bond with him it'd be theoretically possible. However, since Kelsier is spiked, that's likely to drive away a lot of the types of Radiant spren, so it's not very likely.
  6. Chouta, obviously!
  7. Maybe it'd be a good idea to mark this thread as [OB] so that we can talk without the spoiler tags? I also agree with Weltall and StrikerEZ, btw.
  8. Okay, so you're saying if person A put up a bendalloy or cadmium bubble. Then while inside it, moved around and stored speed? Using just bendalloy so I don't have to make the comparision twice I'm pretty sure it would be that person's own relative speed, and not extra based on the time compression. It's the same as how you don't store more speed when falling than when walking. It has something to do with your own motive power.
  9. As Cal said. We know that Mistborn Era 2 happens after SA 5. Era 2 is about 350 years after Era 1. Era 1 is 1023 years after TLR Ascended. Aharietiam happened 4500 Rosharan years ago (almost 5000 cosmere standard). Humans on Roshar predate all of the events and books that we've seen so far, so the timeline doesn't work out, sorry. Worldhopping isn't a gene or a trait. Anyone can do it with the right knowledge and/or power. And yes, all the humans on Roshar are descended from worldhoppers, since they didn't originate/get created on Roshar.
  10. I'm sad that so few people got the pun in the title of my old post there. And also, after 2 years, we still don't know much more hahaha.
  11. Yeah they are definitely different. Brandon has definitely implied that there've been multiple waves of migration to Roshar. It's entirely possible that the original "voidbringers" weren't the Ashynites but another group completely.
  12. Sorry, Tanavast has been dead for a long time. The Stormfather is partially Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow (Kelsier was a Cognitive Shadow). Stormfather absorbed Tanavast's CS after he died, which is why he refers to himself as a Sliver. Also, as others have mentioned, Gavilar was receiving the visions before he died and that was a good 6 years ago.
  13. All signs point toward Autonomy, imo.
  14. I'm sure they've interacted in the last three hundred years, yeah. And I'm sure that it was....extremely interesting and something we'd all love to see
  15. Well the planetary system Roshar really wouldn't work over the span of millions and billions of years. Ten gas giants, three inner rocky planets, one with three tiny moons in an impossible orbit? Yeah, nope
  16. Yeah they were created for Roshar's unique ecology. We haven't really seen any other created sapient races so far, other than on Roshar, so it's not surprising that the parsh are so different. The Aimians, both Siah and Dysan, are also verrrrrrrrrry different. Humans existed on Yolen before the Shattering, and it's unclear whether they evolved or were created, but all the other humans in the cosmere were either based on, or descended from, those original humans.
  17. Wow nice, Argent! I love this. I've been wanting to know all of this for ages too so it's great that you got it! I think the takeaway is that there's 9 colors, not that only 9 polestones are used in spheres.
  18. Odium, from the beginning, wanted to be the most powerful, but didn't want other Shardic natures to influence his own. So he's been Splintering Shards for a long time. Devotion, Dominion, and Ambition were Splintered by him pretty early on, before he got trapped on Roshar. Rayse was always dangerous and crafty. He and his Shard are a good match for each other. At had been holding Ruin about as long as Rayse. But Ati was a nice person, and possibly took up Ruin in order to try and limit the Ruinous nature of the Shard. Sadly, that backfired and he was influenced by Ruin instead. Sazed is different in that he has two opposing Shards. So the two intents cause him to have trouble acting. And it has already begun to influence him, even though it's only been a few hundred years, as opposed to thousands. But it does take time, depending on the willpower and perception of the Vessel.
  19. Well, what did...Oh Mistborn spoilers Consolidated power, positioned troops. Very boring stuff.
  20. Not a problem. I've misremembered plenty of WoBs myself
  21. I don't think there will be much of significance in the year gap. Remember that there has been about that much time in between many of his other books, particularly Mistborn. Think of what happened in those gaps, and it will probably be comparable.
  22. Yeah I'm curious for this WoB too, because it doesn't sound familiar Latest WoBs seem to imply that it isn't an Unmade in the gems. However, it's still possible he had access to an Unmade and that's how he was filling the gems.
  23. I don't think they're looking for the Cryptic, just because the Fused have access to Cryptics in Shadesmar and don't seem particularly interested in them.
  24. I think that Gavilar's source of black spheres is under the palace and that's what they're looking for.
