  1. Mmm. His spren rarely shows itself, but we don't know that it's because it's afraid of Nightblood. I mean, it's a reasonable speculation, but it's not confirmed As long as Szeth has enough investiture on him, his spren should be safe. I wonder if Nightblood would kill Szeth first before it would get to the spren?
  2. The Shards exist in the Spiritual Realm, that's why Allomancy and Hemalurgy work anywhere, with any type of metal. So it wouldn't make sense for the communication to be limited to the planet that the Shard is invested on. As long as the Shard knows that a bit of their investiture is in x place, they should be able to interface with it.
  3. I'm pretty sure Sazed could communicate with Kelsier anywhere, since it's his investiture keeping Kelsier "alive" so to speak. Actually, Kelsier's spiked, so Sazed definitely could communicate with him anywhere. I think he and Kelsier had a disagreement, and that's why they're not speaking. I think that Kelsier is around and active on Scadrial, meddling and dabbling and planning something big, as he usually does.
  4. I think Kelsier, as a Cognitive Shadow, would have a very hard time leaving Scadrian space. And Kelsier with a Shard would be particularly frightening, given his...tendencies. And Kelsier holding Odium would be truly truly terrible. Hoid and Kelsier dislike each other because of their interaction at the Well.
  5. Nah, that was using Adhesion (Pressure and vacuum) to create a windbreak, basically. And manipulating wind would get the attention of windspren.
  6. As I said, we the obsessed fans, would see the clear difference between the two plots. But casual readers, and almost certainly editors, would very much get a WoT vibe off of it, and you know that critics will latch on to that and run with it. So I firmly think that Brandon will stay far away from anything that remotely resembles a cyclical event.
  7. As Cal said, Vasher explicitly states that Nightblood was steel before hand. Trying to invest atium with Breath would be nigh-on impossible because atium is solidified investiture already. Vasher had only been to the Physical Realm of two planets, Roshar and Nalthis. Vasher ended up killing Shashara because she wanted to mass-produce swords like Nightblood. That means it would need to be made of materials readily available and obtainable, otherwise mass producing wouldn't be a viable option. I don't think Vasher would have killed his wife on the chance that she'd be able to get butt-loads of a metal that can only be obtained on another planet and is rare and supremely expensive even there. I'm not sure there was even enough atium in existence to mass-produce swords like Nightblood.
  8. Anyone can store Breath.
  9. It would be hard to spike out Breaths because Breaths aren't part of the soul in the same way that most other investiture is.
  10. I don't think he'll do that, because it's too similar to Wheel of Time. I mean, we'd all see that there are distinct and noticeable differences and that they'd not be the same. But casual readers and editors are going to be like, "Dude, you already wrote Wheel of Time, don't write it again." No, he was definitely killed.
  11. Ehhhhh according to Brandon, we shouldn't take everything Shallan says as set in stone, because she's an unreliable narrator.
  12. I really need to retype my whole Taravangian theory thread. I got to 6/7 bullet points before it went poof

We know that a Windrunner can Lash themselves when they are in *their* living Shardplate. We don't know what the Shardplate is made out of when it's alive, but it's fueled with stormlight and is essentially part of the Windrunner. So it's the same magic system, and the same Radiant. We've never seen a Windrunner Lash just their Shardplate. Because the Windrunner can make it appear and disappear at will, so they have no reason to need to. The spike would first: Kill the person that it was taken from. Second, use Ruin's magic system to steal that part of their spirit web. Third, would resist the Awakening, since you'd be trying to use Endowment's magic on Ruin's magic.
  14. Well that's because he hasn't completely finalized all the dates and things. He plans on giving us an actual timeline when he can.
  15. Also Khriss is perhaps 1000-2000 years old, not much more. Vasher is, at most, maybe 1000 years old. White Sand is before Elantris, we don't know how much. But Elantris is not thousands of years before the events of The Final Empire, and White Sand is not likely thousands of years before Elantris. And it's been about 350 years between Hero of Ages and Way of Kings. Warbreaker happens between Hero of Ages and Way of Kings. It was about 300 years between the Manywar to Warbreaker, and the things that made the Five Scholars famous. Vo, the first Returned was 300-500 years before that, so Vasher would be younger than that. So Vasher is between 600 and 1000 years old. That being said, both Khriss and Vasher are scholars, and they make it their business to learn and investigate as much as they can. So it makes sense for them to be very knowledgeable. The average worldhopper is pretty knowledgeable. But Hoid, who lived before the Shattering, is a statistical anomaly adn shouldn't be counted.

It's not the Identity, though. It's that they're different types of investiture, and trying to add investiture to an already invested object is very very very hard. Also, they don't know how to spike someone without killing them.
  17. For the gem, right? Not for the sphere? That could work. I wish I'd heard back on the shape of the gem inside the gemstone. A spherical cut like you have there would make a lot of sense for money spheres, because they would distribute light more evenly across the surface. Most gemcuts that are found in jewelry are meant to direct light up and out of the "face" of the gem, for maximum brilliance in the direction that most people would see it. So the top would be bright and the bottom would be pretty diffuse and dim. *takes off hobbyist gemology hat* To be honest, I doubt Brandon or Peter have put much thought into this, since they have better things to do (and I don't lol). They probably think of the gems inside spheres as looking like the gems you'd find in jewelry. But I like yours better. Or smooth round cuts.
  18. Right, Brandonw as capitalizing it for emphasis. That it's a Pattern is significant, not that it's named Pattern. Cryptic names aren't words, they're a string of numbers and/or mathematical equations.
  19. They're between the size of a regular marble and a shooter. Like, you know those decorative bead thingies you can get and put in vases? About that size, except round. Yeah the rock in your image isn't cut at all as far as I can tell. That wouldn't really hold stormlight very well. Any kind of cut would involve polishing, and either a smooth cab or a faceted surface.
  20. They're a little flat on one side. I had this question from someone on reddit earlier, and I gave them this image: I'm not sure about the cut of the gem. I've asked Brandon but I'm still unclear on it. The gems can be cut and faceted in different ways, so I'm not sure which is standard for a sphere. My guess? would just be the typical Solitaire shape or maybe smoothly round. I know that the gems inside are something like .15 ct, .25 ct, .5 ct sizes. They are likely cut pretty precisely, since they hold a decent amount of stormlight.
  21. Cal is sneaky and smart.
  22. And then a little later So it's pretty clear to me that she is still in envoyform, stays in envoyform, and the only difference is she can hear either old or new Rhythms and make her eyes red at will, except when she's holding stormlight.
  23. I have been summoned! Sorry, I haven't read the thread entirely, but I just re-read the chapter from Rlain's PoV and I don't see him ever saying anything about being able to breath in stormlight. I think as long as the same voidspren is trapped in the gemheart, they will not change form. The Radiant spren traps the voidspren, but the voidspren is what determines the form. Rlain was last in Warform, with a lesser normal spren who isn't associated with Odium. If a Radiant spren were to bond to him, he would keep his current form. If he let that spren go and bonded to a voidspren, he'd get that form, and the spren trapping it would keep him in that form. Venli was in Nimbleform as one of the Five. However, my suspicion is that she had learned how to take scholarform sometimes, and did it secretly, with maybe just her partner aware of it. Venli is still in envoyform, even though Timbre trapped the voidspren in her gemheart. She hasn't released it or anything. It's still there, and she's still in envoyform. That won't change unless she goes out into a highstorm and gets another spren.
  24. I seem to recall Brandon saying something about Rayse being warrior minded. And I know he's compared him to Vin a few times. I can't see Rayse as ever having been picked on. We don't know when their friendship dissolved, it could have been before the Shattering.
