  1. Tien was a budding Lightweaver, not a full one, according to the WoB. From what we saw of him, he probably hadn't progressed very far yet, since there wasn't glowing, etc. And he didn't really have access to a lot of spheres/stormlight. Plus what Cal said.
  2. Just got it today, from MisoulaCon over the weekend. I soundly admit I was wrong to doubt Tien's protoness.
  3. Right, but the power is doing work (keeping the Returned alive). It's not just being lost, like in Hemalurgy. As Oversleep says, stormlight is also consumed and used up, but Surgebinding isn't end-negative. I think that it's the "being lost" part that determines the end-negative classification, rather than the consuming part. And yeah, the terminology doesn't transfer well. Because in Hemalurgy, the only truly end-negative that we know of, it's the actual ability to use investiture that's being lost, not the investiture itself. A Returned consuming Breath doesn't cause any loss in anyone's ability to use Breath.
  4. Well, but Returned aren't Awakening, exactly. But I do agree that the Returned are end-neutral, because they get power (life) out of that Breath for the week. But the Breath is lost when the Returned consumes it, unlike in Awakening, where the Breaths are retrieved. I mean, hemalurgy is end-negative because power is lost when the spike isn't in a person, and that power returns to Preservation (or whoever) too.
  5. It could be slang. Or it could mean what it sounds like. To Slam, really well. As in, she's really good in a fight

    Awakening Metal

There's maybe 5 grams worth of iron in a human body, more or less.

    MeLaan Kandra

They aren't natural Feruchemists, but given a medallion, there's no reason I can think of that prevents them from using them. They have mass/weight, and so forth like everyone else.
  8. No worries. Yeah it's not apparent on the surface, but it has taken a lot of persistence to get some of those names, so his reticence on Cultivation's name isn't unusual. Oh right I forgot about that one. Yeah, Cultivation's nickname as "Slammer" is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting!
  9. Eh, Brandon kept a lot of the Vessel names under tight wraps for some time. We didn't get Ambition's name until just this last December, even though SfS came out in 2015. We didn't get confirmation that Edgli was Endowment's name until 2015 and Warbreaker had been out, and people had been asking, since 2009. We didn't know Bavadin was Autonomy for...I can't remembe exactly how long, and didn't know Bavadin was female for even longer. I wouldn't put too much into this.
  10. The wanting to be most powerful is Rayse rather than Odium. Odium hates. Rayse hates and wants to be unchallenged.
  11. I know he's deaf, but that shouldn't matter for a movie. I mean, Christopher Lambert is blind as a bat without his glasses and he did the Highlander movies and swordfights. Lou Ferigno is deaf and he did an awesome Incredible Hulk. I can't see Dwayne Johnson as Rock. I mean the symbolism would be cool, but I don't think he has the acting ability to pull it off.
  12. If you haven't read Mistborn: Secret History, then the answer is in there.
  13. What were your questions about the scene? The dark Seons are Skaize, kind of the Dominion Splinters, as opposed to Seons who were kind of Devotion Splinters. The pool is Devotion's perpendicularity. He used it to transition into the Cognitive Realm so that he could worldhop.
  14. I pronounce both A's in Kaladin's name the same way, if that helps. Like calla lilies. Or the first and last syllables of California. Hearing A pronounced as Uh is a
  15. No, I said earlier, I pronounce it KAL-a-din. It's saying uh instead of ah that hurts me Nope, Brandon says Kaladin like Paladin too. That's part of where the name came from.
  16. Pronouncing Paladin like Pal uh din hurts me.
  17. Because Alethi is based a bit on hebrew, so J's are pronounce like Y's. KAL-a-din SHALL-ahn YAS-nah but the s is very close to a z
  18. Brandon's said that Odium would not ever take the power of another Shard, if that helps.
  19. Arcanist just means that the person works on Arcanum, the wob archive. So lots of snippeting, listening, transcribing, etc. Nothing really to do with the Shard, other than the Admins here are the Admins there as well. I was invited because of the work I did on the Words of Radiance tour WoBs a few years back.
  20. The metalminds themselves, clothing, any items carried, etc, do not get lighter or heavier. In Book 2, Sazed addresses this when they're going to the Conventical.
  21. I've read those. In the first one, they're talking about stormlight leaking, not amount of stormlight. In the second one, he says the amount variesfrom gem to gem, not necessarily from cut to cut. You know I'm into gems So I want to know for sure
  22. Yeah I want clarification. I mean, "Cognitive Shadow" seems to imply it's a Shadow of the Cognitive Self. But then when Brandon talks about it, he talks about it being a soul (or the copy of a soul). So it's confusing. I've looked for an answer to the gemstone thing, and haven't found it. Be much obliged if you had them to hand or could show me.
  23. Healing matches your physical self to your Spiritual self, filtered through the Cognitive. So his perception of himself when Renarin tried to heal him was that he couldn't be healed. And I think that external healing is always going to be weaker than internal healing. The Shardblade actually severed the soul of Hobber's legs from the rest of him, and I think that's always going to be more difficult to heal. When Hobber turned into a Squire, he knew from Lopen and Kaladin that the stormlight could patch his legs back in his soul, so they were able to heal. It's also possible that with an external healing source, the Cognitive aspect of both people affect the healing, rather than just the recipient. And Renarin still doubts himself a lot, so he just might not have been able to manage it.
  24. This is my list of questions, should anyone feel like asking them A few are spoilery so I put them behind tags. Does a region's cultural identity ever have anything to do with their sDNA? Example, people expect Alethi to be tall, so they are more likely to be tall? Does a person need to die before they can become a Cognitive Shadow, or can they create one while they're still alive? And is a Cognitive Shadow a copy of the Cognitive Aspect or the Spiritual Aspect (because you've said both, and we weren't sure which one is canon). Is a perfect gemstone required to imprison very powerful spren? Or sapient spren? (Chaos said to remind him of this one in May) Is the Shard that wants to hide and survive the same as the one that's off in space somewhere? Do different gemstone cuts affect how much stormlight they can hold?
  25. Can I have some of your firemoss? Seems like it's pretty good stuff there.
