Does anyone know what Brandon read during Jordancon?
RShara replied to MountainKing's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's the point. It's heavily implied, but Brandon's Aes Sedai answers never directly say "Yes, he used the bead to become a Mistborn." Most likely, yes, he did do that, but Brandon's been very cagey over it, probably because he enjoys trolling us ;). -
[OB] Question about Lift and the Thrill

Spren are tiny Splinters, so there really isn't a difference between the terms. Unmade are just larger Splinters. -
[OB] Question about Lift and the Thrill
RShara replied to Nightfire107's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe because the Thrill's physical form is mist. So it's solid, she can feel it, but it's not solid enough to block her way. -
We don't know how far into the Physical they were. Clearly, enough to observe, and to take on various forms, but not enough to lose their sapience. Shallan and Elhokar both saw Cryptics around them before their full bonding. And the Cryptics were transitioned enough that they could see and at least try to touch physical objects, like looking down an elevator shaft, or reaching out to touch Shallan.

I mean, the God King has 50k+ Breaths and he's not close to Ascending or even opening a perpendicularity, so it doesn't seem to be a really big chunk of investiture. Having two or three times that much spread around in circulation seems feasible without it being a substantial portion of Endowment.

Sorry, the humans were not created by Odium. Also, they didn't really "bring" Odium to Roshar. He just kinda messed around with them on Ashyn, and went on to Roshar at about the same time. As for why the Radiants broke their Oaths the way they did, I think that it was necessary in order to actually break their Oaths. I mean, a formal Oath Breaking isn't really necessary. As Kaladin says, once they decided their Orders were wrong, then giving up their Shards is just a formality. And also, if they truly believed this was the way to protect the planet, is that really violating their Oaths? So they had to break their Oaths the way they did, ensuring that their Shards would be used by people to wreak mayhem, as the only way to actually break them. Does that make sense? I'm tired and rambling a bit. I covered this in my "The spren were in on it" thread below. Some WoBs on the matter And my theory:

Who (in the story) wrote the back cover?
RShara replied to anthonydraco's topic in Stormlight Archive
Ummm why are you necroing a six year old thread? lol And yes, the Aimians, or rather, the Sleepless, wrote them. Brandon confirmed it a little while back. -
Brandon has said that the amount of Breaths given out is actually an insignificant portion of Endowment's investiture. This worries me somewhat because of the following observation. Nightblood consumes Breath (and other Investiture, but let's limit ourselves to Breath for a second). Every person on Nalthis is born with one Breath. Populations tend to grow. Which means that under normal rules of demographics, population of Nalthis should keep increasing. This in turn means that under normal circumstances the number of people with Breath on Nalthis should be growing. I can see the following possible explanations to this: Endowment can give Breath to many more people than are currently living on Nalthis. So, the exponential population growth has not yet reached the level at which Endowment's ability to award a Breath to each Nalthis-born human is seriously challenged. When it happens though, things will not go well. There is some built-in mechanism controlling population growth on Nalthis, making certain that the population stays within the limits. Nightblood's consumption of Breath makes these limits smaller, and overall may lead to Endowment's inability to grant Breath to Nalthis-born, but not for a while (essentially, Endowment controls population trends at she sees fit). Thoughts? Brandon Sanderson Just as a point you should understand, the amount of MATTER in the cosmere is finite too. As is the amount of energy. Worrying that Endowment will run out of Breaths to give is a little like worrying that the amount of carbon on Earth will run out because people keep being born. uchoo786 So just for clarification, once Nightblood consumes investiture, that investiture gets recycled? That's what I've always assumed. That it enters the cognitive/spiritual realm? Brandon Sanderson The investiture he consumes is not gone forever--it's not leaving the system, so to speak. source

Agreed, I don't think this is referring to power but to a person. "You will not find a way to restore what you have lost," then, "This isn't about the dead..." heavily implies that, to me.

I think the Series are the people who rule the Set. And yes, there is a definite mathematical component to the Set. A Suit is I think referring to the suits in decks of cards, since most card games have strong mathematical components. Also

Point. The phrasing was that that they were not both darkeyed. And that it might not mean what we think.

I don't think those spren had transitioned completely to the Physical Realm yet. They were kind of...peeking into the Physical Realm a little bit to observe. Similar to how the Cryptics were hanging around Shallan and Elhokar. Just as some humans can see a bit into the Cognitive, it seems reasonable that spren can see a bit into the Physical without transitioning fully. Transitioning fully is what causes them to lose their sapience without the bond.

Yep, Clod is Arsteel, and apparently, he (and many Lifeless) are more aware than many give them credit for. There's also a TMI WoB about Clod and Jewels' relationship...

Tribute to Mothers in Sanderson’s Writing
RShara replied to Devout Pathian's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Daora is a great mom! Three brilliant kids and one an Elantrian that she successfully protected for years. Kudos! -
I know, that's why I'm wondering if that would be the drawback. Either that, or their eyesight would just get really bad, to the point where they have to use steelsight to see.
-
Steel and Iron (you have a typo there, btw) are hard because they're very external effects. Maybe metal starts to glow and blind them, like it does the Shards?
-
This one is very hard to speculat on since we literally don't know what any part of that phrase meant. Who is We? Who is You? How did "We" kill "you"? Given how death is handled in the cosmere, what does "killed" even mean? ...lol. Three words generating at least four questions.

I loved Oathbringer, but to each their own. There have definitely been others that have raised various concerns over OB, so you are definitely not alone. Welcome!

Yeah I always considered that WoB vague to the point of uselessness, really. "In any way" could mean basically anything.
-
There are a couple of "match up" threads around that would give you some good info. Basically, it depends on the situation and the preparation.
-
I feel like it would be the inverse of that. With land everywhere except for a few patches of whatever where the cities are. I mean, the CR is shaped by perception, yeah, so the people living in the cities would be thinking their ground was "down" and the planet was "up" so that should be reflected in the CR. But I honestly have no idea how that would manifest, other than the usual land/sea inversion. Would there be like...patches of "ocean" floating around?
-
Ashyn was razed (haha) pretty badly, but according to the unpublished Silence Divine, it still exists and is inhabited. A planet that no longer had any life forms would slowly shrink until it was just a small patch of ground in the CR, similar to a moon or other uninhabited planet that people are aware of but don't live on. If there aren't people around to perceive individual objects, I think it would just be the patch of ground representing the planet.

[OB] Cusicesh is the Spren of the One (Iri's god)???

Brandon's confirmed that there have only been 9 Unmade. Or, at least, that there have not been 10- 17 replies

Or if, like, we didn't know the names of the characters...
