  1. They have a purpose, but they're not that purpose literally personified. Just because Dalinar wants to unify Alethkar doesn't mean he is the living idea of unity. Nightblood, however, is just that– he is "Destroy Evil"+Investiture to make him alive.
  2. Wow. I really like this idea. Though I wonder who else than the Stoneward Herald could endure for 4500 years of torture that's meant to be spread between all ten.
  3. After a little more thought, I think another big reason Returned can't be Shardblades is that they are completely different Realmatically from the other three. Spren, Seons, Skaze, and Type 4 Awakened Objects are all Cognitive aspects– pure ideas– given life through Investiture. Spren all have their associated idea, Seons/Skaze all have their Aon/Fjordell character at their center, and Nightblood has his Command to "Destroy Evil". But Returned aren't ideas, they're humans brought to life again. Their Splinter is bound to their physical bodies, while the rest have the Investiture bound to the Cognitive aspect.
  4. Be hilarious if he was doing all this hinting and he turned out to actually be Taln all along.
  5. From the San Francisco Signing. This seems to indicate that the definition for Shardblade is wider than we think– that is, it's a more generalized, Realmatic definition. But I agree that Returned probably aren't capable of bladifying themselves, since the Splinter has a physical aspect already unlike Seons and Spren. However, I do think their Divine Breath, which is the actual Splinter anyways, could be formed into a shardblade.Edit: Storming Ninjas!
  6. Here's the quote.
  7. Here's the precise WoB on Aluminum. I'm not sure how well it applies to Duralumin though, as I'm pretty sure it works differently, by widening the gate through which Investiture passes. So you could probably become an UberElantrian, though you might burn up in the process with all the investiture.
  8. Because her Cognitive perception of herself, as well as other's perception of her, strongly identifies her as a woman. It wouldn't take properly.
  9. Nope, not flying. It's balanced on the back of four elephants chulls which are all standing on an enormous turtle chasmfiend swimming through space.
  10. If this is true, then likely the same would apply to Feruchemical gold too, as well as Regrowth. I think it would require an extreme amount of mental gymnastics, however, to the point of near impossibility.
  11. The ending of the chull lifecycle isn't too odd actually. It's like how octopi will tend the cave where their eggs are laid into they die of starvation. When the chull's go into Senescence, I think they incubate their young inside, until they have no more food to give and die. Then the young have the body of the parent inside as a food source and protection through the shell. Once they're ready to hatch, they wriggle out through the little holes of the shell at the top. It's brutal, but it's an effective way to ensure the young get more food and safety than would be otherwise possible.
  12. Not concrete confirmation, as characters can be unreliable, but still pretty close. That's not to say there isn't an Honorform or something similar: the talk about "blending their surges to ours" certain seems to indicate that, as well as the talk of the spren betraying them over the brothiness of the Parshendi. But I don't think they can become Surgebinders as we see it in humans. The "traditionally" bit could be saying that Honorform Parshendi were not counted as fellow Radiants.
  13. So under this system, all Voidbinders are Parshendi, and humans are incapable of it, like how Parshendi can't Surgebind?
  14. These are my own groupings. Yelig-Nar=Jezerezeh/Windrunners. No-brainer, really. Moelach= Pali/Truthwatchers. Again, pretty obvious. Nergaoul=Talenel/Stonewards. Herald of War and Unmade of War. They match more than Nin, IMO. Re-Shephir=Vedel/Edgedancers. With the attributes Loving and Healing, Vedel sounds very Mother-y, so RS makes sense as an evil counterpart to that. Also, Growth corrupted seems like it could be capable of making monsters. Dai-Gonarthis=IDK. Anyone have the quote for where he's mentioned? Sja-Anat=Battar/Elsecallers. Same reasons as you have.
  15. My votes Flamestance: 8 Ironstance: 2 or 1. Both work equally well for me. Smokestance: 7 Stonestance: 5 Vinestance: 3 Windstance: 4 Scroll is same as 4: Yes. Any differences can be easily explained by the fact that it's a medieval style drawing, which always screw up proportions big time (seriously, look up those German/Italian stances Arcanist was talking about. The original medieval drawings are awful for figuring out the stance). And the sword edge doesn't matter, since Shardblades are double-edged. Scroll is same as 2: No. Oh, @Arcanist: I think you mixed up your votes. If the scroll shows Windstance, and Windstance is 4, then the scroll shows 4, not 2.
  16. The disease magic sounds very survival-y: I believe Brandon at one point explained that it works through bacteria granting magical powers to the host in order to help the host survive, so that the bacteria can feed off it longer. So it's a magic based off organisms just trying to survive.
  17. They probably all have multiple "Herald of" titles. So while Beauty and Luck aren't Highprinces, one of Shallash's and one of Ishi's titles will be a Highprince.
  18. I think it's best to stick with #3 for Vine. Since we have no context in the book, all we have to go by is real world usage, and that's what suggests #3. While Brandon may not be a swordsman, neither am I: and I'm sure he's done some degree of research on this, since he is so big on worldbuilding. So while they may not match up exactly, I think it's best to keep them matched by real world usage until proven wrong. Oh, and nice catch on 4. I automatically assumed it was Adolin, but never stopped to think of the implications.
  19. Waitaminute. Baldrick is your character's dog? Blackadder Baldrick, or some other Baldrick? [spooky]OoooOOOooooOOOO.......OOOoooOOOO..... The deeeeeaaaaaaaaad..... are grOooOOOOoooowing.... boooOOOOoooored....... Entertain uuuuuuuuuuuuusssssss....... BefoooOOooore..... We riiiiiiiiiiiiise....... Agaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiin.........[/spooky]
  20. The more Steins;Gate goes on, the better it gets. The plot gets really dark and interesting. The characters are more complex than most animes.
  21. It kinda looks a little like Plow from that Ebook Arcanist linked, except for leaning really far forward.
  22. The fish definitely go to the underground lake beneath. There'd be no life in the Purelake if all the fish suffocated every week when the highstorms come lol. And these caverns must be gigantic to hold a lake that spans the area of a whole country. There must be occasional collapses, which is probably where the fortress went.
  23. Do you know the name for the stance of the tenth essence, aka Butcherstance? I've got a funny image in my head now of Adolin wearing an apron and holding a cleaver in the dueling arena.
  24. I'm more inclined to think it will be called Brightstance/Lightstance. According to my google powers, Lucentia is a nominative neuter plural of a participle of the latin verb luceo, or 'I shine' (God, that sounds complex: so glad I never took Latin). As for possible names of the rest, I'm thinking Bloodstance, Oilstance, and... Meatstance? Butcherstance? What the heck could this one be?
  25. If there were another stage, it would be well known and shown on the diagram. Plus, they wouldn't care as much about delaying senescence if they just get a bigger chull– they would want to hasten it, in fact. So Senescence is the end of the life cycle. Since there's not much reason to become a rock unless you're a rock that feeds the little baby chulls, it must be the larvae spawning stage. Also, chulls are probably either asexual or hermaphroditic. If they had two genders, then only one would have to undergo Senescence. The other would be the one used for workers, since it's much easier to use them when you don't have to worry about them garden-ifying.
