  1. It would be really cool if that was the case. Considering the fiasco with his saddle, though, where he accidentally implicated Dalinar in a supposed assassination attempt on himself, makes this seem extremely unlikely. I do on the other hand feel like he should have the potential to become a real political beast, if he could only get over his paranoia. I would greatly appreciate if he could develop a a similar dynamic with Dalinar as the latter used to have with Gavilar, where one takes care of the political machinations and the other puts them into action as well as whipping opponents into place. A man can dream, wouldn't you agree? ^^)
  2. I did like the other fishy picture you had too. Whatever happened to that one?
  3. The newly released chapter three of WoR showed Jasnah and Shallan being able to see each other's Spren. This seems to suggest that Surgebinders would be able to see other Surgebinder's bonded Spren. But then, in chapter five, Kaladin is quite openly talking to Syl (other then her being invisible n' all). Now, why didn't Elhokar see this? Did he just not notice? Elhokar is an oblivious idiot at times, but he isn't blind so I doubt it. After considering the scenario, I've come up with the following possibilities: Surgebinders can see other Nahel Spren, but only from adjacent orders. Windrunners can see Skybreaker and Order Ten Spren, but not Edgedancer or Stoneward. Lightweavers can see Elsecaller and Order Four, but not Windrunner, etc. . Surgebinders can see bonded Nahel Spren, and potential Surgebinder has not yet been granted "Nahelvision". Elhokar has not yet officially bonded a Cryptic, and thus does not yet have the ability to see Syl, and by the same logic, Kaladin cannot yet see his Cryptic(s). Shallan only really bonded her Cryptic just before seeing Ivory for the first time, so that counts in this hypothesis' favour. . Elhokar really is an oblivious idiot. I am personally in favour of the second suggestion, if only because it opens up the exiting possibility of Shallan and Jasnah knowing what Kaladin is the second they see him for the first time, and Dalinar as well when he officially bonds his Spren, as I believe with the rest of you lot that he is about to do. EDIT: Grammar.
  4. I do not quite get what you're saying. You say you disagree, but then you go on to make the same argument as me - only to again state that there is not just one possible interpretation. At least that is the way I read it. I am not saying this to be crass; I am honestly just a tad confused. And I didn't really make any attempt at postulating any "one" answer, as I was particularly refuting the previous post. Something is different in Lift's case as compared to other humans, which lets her touch cognitive things while other people cannot. This directly contradicts the assumption that the Realms are just different perspectives of the same thing. I have however at this time no alternative hypothesis that describes the true nature of what is going on there. EDIT: sp
  5. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Lightsong. His end wasn't that messy Blushweaver's, though, but she in turn wasn't that whiney.
  6. I agree more or less fully, though that isn't going to stop me from shipping her with Kaladin!
  7. Surgebinding is not hereditary on Roshar. You get them by attracting Spren which only are interested in people acting according to certain ideals. I find it highly unlikely that some of the Bridgemen that "snapped" would have attracted Spren at that point. Edit: I like Kurk' interpretation of the idea, though!
  8. The name itself comes from "The Emperors Soul", which prompted someone to ask Brandon directly about it. So far, we know that it was a force opposing Adonalsium, which is still around. I'm on a buss rift now (unfortunately not a boat) and can't look for the actual quotes, but if you go to coppermind.com and search for it, you should get the relevant information.
  9. As an atheist myself, I actually find Brandon's use of religion to be quite tasteful and highly intriguing. And considering Adonalsium, the Power of Creation, is shattered, and that there is an opposing force that is still around and currently a lot stronger than any single Shard - if his works ARE Mormon propaganda, it is so far a peculiar and highly ineffective one.
  10. Then how would you explain Lift's peculiar situation where Wyndle's claims she is partially in the Cognitive Realm? Whether or not his exact take on it is irrelevant - she can touch and interact with him while other humans cannot, thus this there is clearly an "imbalance" or something similar that is less expressed for her than for others.
  11. I think Selish FTL is going to be a real challenge. First of all, it's (currently) only one way. Unless you find some other source than the Dor to power it, you could never return through the same method. Secondly, if jumping from Elantris to Teod is risky, imagine how difficult it would be to jump from one spinning planet going several tenths of thousand kilometres per hour in a circular orbit onto another spinning planet moving several thousand kilometres per hour. On the plus side, the chances of hitting a wall is rather slim, on the negative side, the chances of actually hitting the planet at all is almost just as tiny. The Scadrian Metallic Arts do have a way of producing FTL travel built into it, Brandon has said as much, but we have only guesses about how that is supposed to go.
  12. I haven't really been paying much attention to his reading habits, but from what I remember, he admires G. R. R. Martin, but cannot actually go through his books. He tried the first one, but it got too brutal for him . =P
  13. But can we be sure that that isn't just an unbound Honourspren?
  14. I should make a list of my lists.

  15. Sorry for this, but I have to down-vote that post just because I am firmly against the idea of Shen going on a killing spree. I am somewhat daydreaming of him taking on warform or something while still preferring to stay with Bridge Four. I trust my fellow Sharders will forgive me for this compulsive down-voting, and that they will up-vote you again properly.
  16. THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE HERE, META, OR ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE INTERNETS. Go back to your classes now. Skedaddle! Shush!
  17. I am having way to much fun over at tor.com. I presume I was not the only one squeeing and jumping up and down out of glee? I feel like a child not only meeting Santa Claus, but getting to ride with his reindeer to visit his workshop at the North Pole as well!
  18. We have WoB on that. I am to tired to find them right now, though. I might edit it in later, unless Kurkistan gets to it first.
  19. This might, however, be an instance of humans interpreting things wrongly. While humans attribute Emotionspren to Honour and Spren dealing with natural forces to Cultivation, the truth might actually be an intermixing between the two. Also, remember that Jasnah's research was based on extremely faulty documents, which may or may not have been heavily tampered with one way or another.
  20. ... which is itself a reference to the Hitchhiker... Bioware does that. And it is awesome! =P
  21. I don't care! I want MOARH! NOW!
  22. Whence did this information come?
  23. I would prefer not to think about this one too closely. Kaladin (along with Dalinar) is my favourite Sanderson character across and beyond the Cosmere, and Amaram looked like a good, but misguided, man. Whatever Brandon has in store for them, I am convinced it will be sufficiently epic and / or exiting.
  24. Guys, as far as I am aware Szeth is the only bald Shin we've seen. Thresh-son-Esan's hair wasn't described, but if he was bald, that would probably have been mentioned. Also, none of his warriors / guards had their hair described. In conclusion, just because you have seen one bald Shin does not mean they all are.
