  1. I considered including a line about that, but I didn't think it necessary. I think such a massive shift in the ecology of Roshar would be noted, even with the lack of trustworthy historical documents that modern Roshar seems to have. Plus, by this point, Dalinar has experienced several visions in several different epochs, and I think he would have noticed if the Rosharan life forms were any different back then. Especially in the Feverstone vision, the landscape looks just as barren as ever. EDIT: While writing this post, I remember that Dalinar noticed the poor quality of the buildings in the "Starfalls" vision, which would not have been possible with Highstorms to mow them down with every passing. I went back and checked, however, and there is this line to justify how they could have been standing, even with Highstorms that far back: It should also be noted that cities likely well over two thousand years old have been built to either completely avoid or break away the effects of a Highstorm, such as Kholinar (which has been proven to exist way ofer 4'500 years ago), Kharabrant and Sesemelex Dar.
  2. You make a fairly strong case. Consider me convinced. At least as much as I can be without further evidence.
  3. I think there's a decent case to be made for this. I am not sure that it is technically possible for most types of Investiture usage, such as for the Metallic Arts, but I think it is a correct assumption that the closer you get to the power of a Shard (id est holding a bunch of Investiture), the hardier you get - assuming such an amount is possible to attain in a given system (I have my doubts about Stormlight, though. You get to hold more so than with Allomancy or Feruchemy, but probably far below what you can obtain with enough Breaths.
  4. The metals themselves aren't technically invested - they are more like gateways to Preservation's Investiture, held open as they are burned. There is also reason to assume that the Shards aren't blind to Investiture in itself, but to the foci used to initiate the use of it. Thus, Ruin and Preservation are Blind to metals, but not really the use of them. A person flaring pewter wouldn't suddenly light up brightly, though the metals on him or in his stomach might give give away some light. If the same logic is to be extended to Sel, then a Shard (or just Devotion / Dominum, I don't know if Odium would have had the same blindness when he was on Sel) would be blind to the Aon equations of AonDor, and possibly to the soulstamps (the carved part) of Soulforging. On Nalthis, I honestly do not know, but someone has suggested that Endowment might be colour-blind, or that (s)he might be blind or deaf to Commands. On Roshar, I suggest that the Shards are blind to Foci Gems, and not the Stormlight itself (Stormlight is inherently bright though, so while not blinding, it can still be seen as bright flashes of light if concentrated enough. Also, one last note. The Shards wouldn't technically be blind to their foci, but blinded by them because they only see them as intolerably bright lights. . EDIT: Relevant quote(s):
  5. I do not dispute the fact that the Shards are blind to the foci of their investiture. I just wasn't sure if - in this particular case - TenSoon or Elend would be the cause of the spears of light. And yes, I've noticed that passage myself. It might just be a cave in a place where there are gems in the rock. Not sure if Stormlight is needed, I think even empty focus gems might do the trick.
  6. I can't exactly remember the context, but wasn't that TenSoon? The spears of light being his Spikes?
  7. I feel bad for those two random soldiers, though. That's almost as bad as being shot on the last day before retirement! EDIT: Also, I hope they weren't from Bridge Four.
  8. I do not think my voting habits is what should arouse suspicion, if anything. I've been more content strategizing a discussing with others than launching mob lynchings of the one or the other. The first day I came too late in to do much more than vote with the majority. Today, I've been assuming my agreement with Darnam still held ground, and now that I know it does not, I'm just lining up with and supporting the majority. The most direct influence I've had on the vote was yesterday, though I can hardly see how you can blame me for finding it suspicious that we would have two Seekers. Given the information we had then, Beetle seemed more trustworthy, and Edgar the more suspicious one. I get that you do not want to die, but I am not the one who has lined up the majority against you. EDIT: Latest tally updated.
  9. Sorry, Kurk, but you are not the first to come up with this theory:
  10. Well, if you're serious about it, I'd recommend attacking from several fronts. Send him a message on his mail, send a Personal Message to Peter Ahlstrom's user on this forum, send Brandon a tweet asking how you might get in touch, etc. You could also consider getting in touch with his agent, Joshua Bilmes.
  11. I'd like to see Jennifer Lawrence playing a malicious character. I think she'll fit wonderfully as Shan!
  12. He is from White Sand. We aren't really supposed to discuss unpublished works around here, so I don't know if I should tell you who he is, but suffice it to say that it will be pretty obvious once you've read it.
  13. This idea has been proposed before, and while it might be that they increased somewhat in power after the shattering, I find it more or less impossible that they were caused by it. Remember that Roshar's Fauna and Flora are all completely dominated by it. It is a harsh environment, and they have had to adapt in strange and unusual ways just to survive. The Prelude is placed 4'500 years before the rest of the book. The Recreance possibly around 2'000 years after that. The Rosharan life forms cannot possibly have developed in only around 2'500 years.
  14. Wait, I'm suspected because of my lists? Um, ok? Well, since Darnam still hasn't showed up, I'm hereby declaring our agreement for null and void, and retract my vote from Beetle and give it to Dyring, since he's the one everyone is currently voting for. Note that I am not entirely convinced Dyring is spiked, but mostly because of his exaggerated irrationality. I do not believe a Spiked villager would be quite as openly illogical. But I'm voting with the majority out of solidarity and to avoid any Soothing or Rioting to change it. And yes, Kukri, I forgot Mat. Nothing special about it, I just miscounted. And in my defence, you forgot to count Beetle's vote! So in the spirit of defending my title, here's an updated (and complete) list: Beetle - (0) Dyring, Gambles, Aether, Dyring - (8) Wilson, Porridge, Beetle, Kukri, Clancy, Maill, Gambles, Aether, Kukri - (0) Maill Aether - (1) Gambles, Dyring, Currently not voting - (2) , Darnam, Mat EDIT: Updated as per Dyring's change of vote.
  15. Actually, it could be a rather good tactic for defusing any built up suspicion. His vote still isn't needed for another, oh, 12 hours? And if he is spiked, he could still be in discussion with his comrades. If he happens to be the Coinshot (I don't think it is likely, but entertain the notion for a second), then he's orders are given by PMs to the GM. Just because he hasn't showed up openly in the Thread doesn't mean he's not playing. I am not willing to rule him out just because he hasn't said much for a while.
  16. I'm kind of surprised there aren't about 10 new pages since I've been away. Oh, well, quicker to read through this way. Now, Kukri has already made a fine list, but I'm the list guy, so here is one from me: Beetle - (2) Dyring, Gamma, Aether, Dyring - (4) Wilson, Porridge, Beetle, Kukri, Kukri - (1) Maill, Currently not voting - (4) Gambles, Clancy, Darnam, Mat The vote can still be swung either way, and that is without counting the effect of the Rioter of Soother (I am assuming only one of each, mostly because the vote has only been affected once). I am currently having my doubts about Beetle. I never originally suspected him that much, but thought either him or Edgar would have to have been spiked. Now, I am not so sure, especially considering Dyring's seemingly irrational persecution of him. It seems likely to me that the Spiked has infiltrated all three of the voting blocks from yesterday. If Beetle turns out to have been spiked after all, then I assume that Wilson is too. Quinn proved to be innocent, but I think Dyring have a good chance of being spiked. He also fits with the outspoken type of player I described earlier. In my voting block, I really do not know. I am guessing Darnam, if only because he was the one who suggested pooling our votes in the first place, which made us crucify one Seeker (though admittedly, I was the one who wanted to go for Edgar first) and with the risk of killing a second one as well, if Beetle really is what he says he is and we end up killing him today. My vote is still with Beetle to honour the agreement, but if Darnam doesn't come back to follow up on our deal, I'll consider it void and might end up voting otherwise. EDIT: I forgot Mat.
  17. +1 for the list, Dyring! I am going to be away for most of today, I think, so I'm going to vote now in case I won't come back before the day ends: Having gone through his contract with Darnam, Aether knew what he had to do. "I vote Beetle." If I get back in time, I shall go through the arguments and see if that changes anything. Darnam has been absent for a while, so I'm not even sure if our agreement is still ongoing.
  18. I get that it would be possible to access it in the same way that a bit of tweaking would let Allomancers access Breath, but it sounded like people somehow assumed that a Nicrosil metalmind would be accessible much more easily. I am merely suggesting that, while it is able to hold Investiture, so will an Awakened piece of metal. I do not see how a Nicrosil-mind would be more effective at this.
  19. An F-bomb. I like it! Suggestive!
  20. Why are we assuming that every person with access to some form of Investiture would be able to even tap a Nicrosil metalmind?
  21. Well, there aren't that many left anyway. Not that I want him to kill the rest, but he'll hopefully move on to the Boltons afterwards.
  22. Well, the best anagrams for "Adonalsium" that I can find are the following: Animal duos Soda alumni Load Animus A dualism no A dualism on! A load minus Anal sodium A snail do, um Or something. My favourite is the third one.
  23. Well, in G. R. R. Martin's case, a 10% rate would still be miraculous.
