  1. Care to elaborate? I'd be interested in reading more about the case.
  2. As Weiry and ccstat says, you're exaggerating the length of a Rosharan year by quite a bit. I did the full calculation for Kaladin here. Since we havan't been given the exact length of a Rosharan hour ("one or two minutes shorter than an Earth hour"), we cannot precisely calculate the length of a Rosharan year, but it is somewhere between 1,1 and 1,2 Earth years, but more commonly stated as being 1,1 Earth years (unless there is a WoB somewhere canonizing this at 1,1). By using these numbers, we get (if 1,1 is canonized, then feel free to ignore the second numbers): Kaladin is born in 1154 EoS (Era of Solitude) and is 19 by the end (year 1173 EoS) of the Way of Kings, which is around 21 (between 20,9 and 22,8) in Earth years. Shallan is one year his junior, and is 18, which is also around 21 years old (between 19,8 and 21,6). Jasnah is born in 1139 EoS and is actually 34 by the end of the Way of Kings, which is somewhere between 38 and 41 in Earth years. Dalinar is born in 1123 EoS and is somewhere between 55 and 60. Navani is born in the same year as Dalinar, so she's around the same age. Elhokar is 26, so between 28(,6) and 31(,2) Earth years old. I might add some more later. EDIT: We now have WoP that a Rosharan year is in fact 1,1 Earth years.
  3. Would it be possible to make it time limited? Even if the topic has 15 pages, if it hasn't been used for five months, I'm not sure it would still deserve the "hot" tag.
  4. Eugenics literally means "racial hygiene". While there is some heavy racial separation and discrimination going on on Roshar, there is still a little way to go from "more fit to rule" to "purer". It is possible to use both to do some gruesome things, of course, but the road to a racial cleansing is somewhat shorter from the latter one.
  5. Thanks, but I prefer my own little logo. I would have preferred to be the only Elsecaller, though . Oh, well. I guess I'll just ahve to learn to share.
  6. Wind Aether, adept of the Church of the Survivor, offers his services for to honour Kelsier's memory. May the survivor offer us plenty of opportunities to compose ever more glorious lists! EDIT: While Aether in some cases is translated as "wind", I think I'll just stick to my user name in order to avoid confusion.
  7. You got a RAFO on it.
  8. This smacks uncomfortably of eugenics. I'd be interested to see how it is presented in the books.
  9. Not if she's around consistently. It's stated that Windspren do pester people from time to time, but they quickly lose interest and float away.
  10. I checked the annotations for this chapter, but there is no mention of it.
  11. I find myself slightly squeeing and up-voting ALL OF THE POSTS!
  12. Would you mind quoting the passage? I do not have my book with me.
  13. It seems Brandon is intent on making it as difficult as possible to asnwer that. Here's a bunch of quotes that might help further cloud the issue: . EDIT: Ninja'd. Somewhat.
  14. I am aware of that theory (and Kurk's interpretation of it), my main problem is that you wouldn't have access to the Dor on another planet. Now, a recent WoB states that magic systems can be "jury-rigged" to fuel each-other, but it was implied that it would take a considerable amount of knowledge and work to do so. Two-way Selish FTL-travel is possible, but not likely happen any time soon.
  15. Yeah, sorry, I didn't consider that. You can add some spaces though retroactively by using the "edit" button down in the right corner of your post.
  16. You mean "Scadrian", right?
  17. This theory assumes, though, that the Heralds have a similar perception of time in Damnation as we do. There could be some funky stuff going on there, especially since we already know that there are wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff in the Cosmere. In addition, I didn't necessarily get the impression that Kalak's "Centuries, perhaps millennia, of torture" was referring to the total time spent in damnation, but maybe just the most recent one. I like the theory, but I think there are too many holes in our information about this to say much for certain.
  18. What I am interested in is if it would (or at least could) produce an offspring with connections to both magic systems, or if they would mix and create a hybrid system, much in the same way that the balance between Ruin and Preservation made Feruchemy. What would the combination of Harmony and Endowment be? A system where you could forcefully take other's breaths as well as Awaken objects without touching them? What would Devotion and Cultivation make?
  19. If Brandon ever pulls a Jordan on us, I think we've found our Sanderson!
  20. Yeah, I forgot that one. Thanks, Shardlet.
  21. It wasn't really a serious question, as I was mostly just jesting with the universality of Hemalurgy. But you both made good answers to the silly question, so +1 to both of you
  22. Um, no. At least not from what I remember. I cannot really say I was able to find any likely cameo by Hoid. Aether of the Night is btw an unpublished (and will probably stay that way) Cosmere book.
