  1. O_o! I hadn't considered that there might be something "surgebinding pluss" going on with Dalinar. It seems to go both ways, though, as Dalinar instinctively trusts Kaladin. I am willing to bet that this isn't just normal character building, as Brandon seems to really rub it in. Dalinar asks himself several times rather insistently why he trusts Kaladin so instinctively.
  2. He researches them to the point of ridiculousness, though. Dig deep enough, and you can find dirt on everyone. It is very hard to go through life without ever breaking any law. If nothing else, a lot of us will have jaywalked at some point, or something to that effect. You also get to the point where it wouldn't make sense to punish someone for what they did if enough time has passed. It is heavily implied that it has been a long time since Ym delivered that bottle of wine, and you can make the argument that the youthful Ym is not the same person as Ym the kind-hearted and wise cobbler. It wouldn't make sense to punish the latter for the former's crime, especially if we're talking about a thirty year interval or something like that. And even then, Ym was tricked into comiting his crime. He should probably have suspected that something was afoul, but do you punish the unwitting mailman for delivering the bomb that was sent to you? In some cases the answer might be yes (if he had reason to suspect that something was wrong, or if he should have known something was wrong), but you still wouldn't give him sentence him to capital punishment. Nale might be doing everything by the book, making sure all papers are in order, etc., but the truth is that he is bending the law to serve his own suspect needs. And while that might not in itself be a crime, it is betraying the true meaning of justice.
  3. I hope we could at least get two. Even considering the influx of new members, only one question seems a bit limiting.
  4. I am not sure that is the correct implication. There is a WoB where he says that Atium and Lerasium are both at the core just basic metals that have a spiritual aspect to them. I think you could Soulcast the base metal just fine (of maybe not easily, but it should be possible), but you can't add the (correct) Spiritual element - the Investiture - to it.That isn't to say that Honour (pre-death) could make Tanavastium if he jury-rigged it properly. Or at least, I don't think that WoB gives a definite "no" the the question.
  5. Learn to Forge, only to Forge yourself to forget that you're a Forger. Oh, wait, Shai already (almost) did that.
  6. I am not sure it would work like that. The time you experience is still real-time for you, so you would only store attributes for the time you actually experienced.
  7. I considered crashing that, but it doesn't really feel right when I don't know the first thing about Brian McClellan. From youtube-videos of events like that, I gather that Brandon usually always gets most of the attention and questions in such situations, so it would be rather rude to come there just for Brandon. That would be amazing! How would it work though, if he did another one? Everyone are entitled to two questions? Or do we just throw questions at him and he responds to what he feels like answering?
  8. I think were underestimating Dalinar here. Don't forget that the Shardplate makes him fast as well as strong, and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets him on a level with a Pewter burning Mistborn (though perhaps not a flaring one). Of course, Kelsier could just stay far out of his reach, but if he did come close enough, I don't think he would have been able to dodge everything (assuming he doesn't have Atium).
  9. We know nothing of how their powers work though. Demoux hasn't got access to Atium (that we know of) and Galladon can't use his powers outside of Arelon. If we assume that they both have access to their powers at full capacity, though, I think Demoux would win in a straight up fight, while Galladon would win if they both were able to make preparations and plans ahead of time. AonDor is just way more flexible and useful than any other system we've seen thus far, and I think he would be able to plan around Demoux's future sight, but in a straight up spur-of-the-moment brawl, it would be difficult to keep up with Demoux, as he can predict everything you throw at him. It still wouldn't be entirely clear cut, though, because Demoux presumably does not have access to Allomantic pewter and has only normal human speed and reflexes, and even if he could predict everything Galladon can throw at him, a sufficiently rapid and well-aimed barrage of Aon Daa might still hit him. Galladon also has his natural resistance and healing on his side. Demoux would basically have to cut off his head to kill him for sure.
  10. I am not too familiar with French Fantasy and Fantasy translations in general, but I found it amusing that they use very old and archaic vocabulary to describe clothes, weaponry, buildings etc. It made for a very authentic atmosphere - even if I had to look up every other word.
  11. Speaking of Jasnah, I am surprised that Shallan hasn't considered the possibility that she would have been able to survive that stabbing with Stormlight healing. That wouldn't necessarily make her think she's alive, but it would make her feel guilty of letting her drown (as she most likely was not aware of her ability to Elsecall). Then again, Shallan is rather good at suppressing unwanted truths.
  12. How about using some of the illustrations from the Stormlight Archive? I would love to see Skyeel, Santhid, Chasmfiend icons etc. on the forum.
  13. I meant no offense; I didn't mean it in a derogatory way, I just meant he (as most of us mere mortals on the internet) likes to mess around. I present to you as evidence, rank "Torturer of Heralds" gained at 666 reputation points and lost at 667. That said, I would be honoured if he did indeed make it "Mediocre List Maker". EDIT: By the way, Kurkistan is currently at 1193 Reputation points and has become Twinborn. I did not see the transition. EDIT 2: This seems to have already been verified, but I am currently at exactly 979 Rep points, and I am still a Highprince. I suppose there is little chance of the shift being on the next Rep point. EDIT 3: I did indeed become Truthless at 980 points.
  14. This almost makes it sound like thet are in fact several different Spren. Maybe Elhokar will be the first ever Super Radiant, a Stormborn with access to all Nahel Spren and all Surges?
  15. No, they are for the most part speaking either Alethi or Veden - translated for our convenience. As for the puns, I am afraid I will have to invoke the rule of Suspension of Disbelief.
  16. I tend to obsessively track which of my posts gets up-votes, and it is always strange when I suddenly jump up in rep points without anything new on my user page. People reread old Threads all the time, and some even go specifically through the posts on users reputation pages. I have myself done so on occasion, finding some of a users posts to be funny or insightful, only to read through his or her up-voted posts in want of more, all the while continuing to up-vote things I like.
  17. That could have been a fun one. But I am confused. @Chaos, are there in fact lower levels of negative reputation? You seem to say here that there are in fact ranks lower than Zucchini, but that you haven't added any more negative ranks in the new system. On the other hand, you firmly state here that there are no more ranks below that. Did you mean that you will eventually add more negative ranks, but that we currently have them all?
  18. This was a really cool way to get up to date. I guess it beats my full two days reading everything everywhere after my two month's hiatus.
  19. I started with the Way of Kings myself, and I got sucked in very quickly with the steep but rewarding learning curve. My mind was completely blown when I realised the significance of the epigraphs of part II, but it took a while before I understood the full context. I don't know if I would have fallen as hard for Brandon's books as I did if I had started anywhere else. Mistborn is good, and very cool and well paced (and STORMS the foreshadowing!!!!), Warbreaker is very funny and original, but has some issues with rapid shifts in tone and pacing, and Elantris is... The setting and elements of it is quite original, but I think it might be his most classically structured book, as it has a taste of pulp fantasy of it. Brandon quite simply reached a whole new level with the Stormlight Archive and succeeding books, and while aspects of the Way if Kings might be confusing without the context from Mistborn, the hints at a greater universe was one of the things that made me buy all of his other books and binge read the whole thing in a little over a week.To get properly and certainly sucked in without any reprieve, the Way of Kings is the way to go. But if you'd prefer to dip your toes into the Cosmere before you throw yourself at the massive tome that is the Way of Kings, then I think the single best book to start with would be the Emperor's Soul. It isn't as climactic and epic as most of his other Cosmere books, but it is extremely well written and provides maybe his most original and interesting magic system. It is also self-contained and rather short, and while some of the dialogue can only be fully appreciated with some deeper Realmatic knowledge, none if it will feel confusing or empty. Also, Forging is cool and poetic.
  20. Kind of falls short of a decent pick-up line, as the stick is - and will always be - a stick.
  21. I find it amusing that accidental down-votes usually results in the victim getting a disproportional amount of up-votes.
  22. My favourite kind of joke is to respond seriously to obvious jokes. But I suppose that cannot easily be made clear over the internet. Also, I am quite confident that we found all the negative ranks during theFallGuy project, and as far as I'm aware, Chaos didn't add any negative ranks this time around. I was tempted to up-vote this for its sheer audacity. But no, it didn't seem right, so I went through your previous posts and found a more worthy post. EDIT: By the way, knowing Chaos for the troll he is, there is almost guaranteed an easter egg at precisely 1337 rep points. We should be mindful of that.
  23. Which makes it even more incomprehensible that he didn't show any actual Voidbringers or anything at all from a previous Desolation.
  24. I am going to necro this Thread as I found this game to be too much fun to stay dead. Ym's Spren?
  25. Speaking of visions, why wouldn't Honour show him a Desolation? Honour crafted them primarily to help Roshar avoid another Desolation, true, but even if he thought all would be lost if the Everstorm arrived and didn't bother to give any knowledge about fighting a Desolation, it would at least be helpful to know what to look for.
