Stones Unhallowed 10.5% Accurate Predictions: Kaladin
Aether replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
We don't really know that there is a "one Radiant per Order" rule. in fact, it seems likely that there has been two Radiants at the same time of either the Edgedancers or the Truthwatchers, though that does depend a bit on the timing of the Ym chapter in regards to Lift bonding Wyndle and Renaring bonding Glys. For plot building reasons (and Spren politics in the case of some of the Orders), it seems likely that the initial influx of Radiants will we slow, but it would be a huge boon to the readers if a few more of the known and beloved characters would join the refounded Knights Radiant. In fact, if we are to disregard the Rule of One, then I think Lirin is one of the most likely candidates for a Nahel bond - at least more so than some others, such as Adolin. He fits very well with the attributes of the Truthwatchers, and the loss of both of his sons should make for enough of a broken soul to allow for a bonding process to start. It does depend a bit on whether he has turned to the dark-side or not following the Roshone affair, though. -
Next 17th Shard Q&A?

Maybe I should make a List of them? ^^- 31 replies

Honestly, I don't think Brandon would go there. Time travel is usually a very convoluted story-element, and he cares way to much about rules and systematics to open that can of worms.

Stones Unhallowed 10.5% Accurate Predictions: Kaladin
Aether replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
I am not sure we agree on his motivations, then. He certainty cares, but not as passionately as other characters from Stormlight Archive do. A huge theme with Kaladin is that he cannot let go, something his father told him would get easier with time. Jasnah wants to protect and preserve humanity, Shallan cares deeply about her friends and associates, Kaladin is extremely brave, Dalinar is lawful - what decides which Order you isn't what attributes you have, but what your primary attributes are. For Shallan that is obviously creativity, for Kaladin it is his desire to protect others. I don't think Lirin is all about empathy, but he is very learned (surgeon's assistant, likes to fiddle with Highstorm predictions), and it is incredible how much he gives of himself to his community, even when they turn against him. -
Next 17th Shard Q&A?
Aether replied to Glaring at the Survivor's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yes, good points. Agreed. And even the "couple of members" (of which I arrogantly presume to be a part of) could benefit from some good brainstorming. Especially when it comes to how the questions should be formulated to avoid RAFO's.- 31 replies

The Truthwatchers are in the Sea of Souls, and the Edgedancers and Dustbringers are placed beside the Nexus of Vapours. Some of the coincidences are quite neat, but I don't think there is anything to it.

Next 17th Shard Q&A?
Aether replied to Glaring at the Survivor's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Just to be clear, when I suggested having a Thread or a voting to decide on a List of good questions, I meant it as a means to find out what questions the community felt was the most important ones. People could then take questions from that list if they wanted to (or if they just couldn't think of anything by themselves) or make up their own. I think the list from the Ultimate List of questions is a bit unruly, and not everything is equally interesting. And besides, even with the updated list, I can see that quite a number of them have in fact already been answered either directly or indirectly.- 31 replies

Well, in the Letter, Hoid refers to the receiver as "old reptile", and someone asked Brandon at a signing whether this was because the receiver was a dragon, which he confirmed. Now, it is disputable whether the dragon in question is indeed a Shard, but since he is referred to as "essentially immortal", and given the intimate knowledge the receiver has with Adonalsium and the the Shards of Roshar, it seems likely that he is, indeed, a Shard.- 20 replies

My first reaction was: um... ok? What do they say on Reddit? I am not sure I'm seeing what this is supposed to imply.

And what do you mean, two types of creatures made of stone? -
How did he do THAT??? (Pure Conjecture, Spoilers for WoR)
Aether replied to GeoMancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it is stated somewhere by the Crew that he did indeed get beheaded at some point. And I don't think it is that big of an issue for a Gold Twinborn to have their mind separated from the body, as it is primarily a question of restoring the Ideal self that would still be present in the Cognitive and Spiritual Realm. In Alloy of Law, Miles got shot in the Head (id est got his brain, his mind, smashed) without it giving him any trouble. -
Stones Unhallowed 10.5% Accurate Predictions: Kaladin
Aether replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it more likely that Lirin would become an Truthwatchers, actually. He does care a lot, but it is more a kind-hearted and intellectual one than the very fervent empathy that both Kaladin and Lift possesses. I think the Learned/Giving is a much better fit as Primary/Secondary attribute than Caring/Healing. -
I feel sad for Kaladin, though. He really had a great bromance going on with Moash, and it was heart-breaking to read that Moash held his revenge higher than his friendship and loyalty to "Kal". It only makes me appreciate even more the other members of Kaladin's inner circle, though. I am a bit worried about Teft (though it seems like his problem is alcoholism), but he, Lopen, Rock, Sigzil, Hobber, Skar etc. are all wonderful! By the way, I wonder if Renarin is going to stay in Bridge Four.

Don't forget that the Seventeenth Shard are associated with the Dragon Shard, which is presumably located on Yolen. Given that Khriss is said to be even more knowledgeable than Hoid - who is from Yolen and would thus know of all the original variants - I think it is a safe bet that she has had good access at least to information about the planet and its magics..- 20 replies

A visitor, yes, but I wouldn't want the Nightwatcher herself, just as I wouldn't want a Stormfather Interlude. Some characters works best only when observed through others. EDIT: Although, it would be amusing to see Brandon write a chapter all in upper-case lettering.

Well, to be fair, she had to learn how to Invest her Stormlight back into spheres first. And the lock wasn't something that could be opened by EVERY key from WHEREVER.

I think the gems get their respective values mostly from their usefulness in Soulcasting. Emerald spheres are the most valuable of every size because they can be used to Soulcast food.

I am tempted to swap my avatar for that Sebarial one. These are great, Awe!

If that was so, wouldn't you break the rule by asking about it?

No, now that you mention it, I do remember that passage. It is from one of the Adolin view-points in the Way of Kings, I believe.

Speaking of visors, if the Shardhelmets are more or less see-through, why do they even have eye-slits?

As per WoB, Investiture has presence in all three Realms, but is really more transcending all three. EDIT: Found it:

Just go ahead and post whatever you want, though do a quick search with some keywords first. Even old theories can sometimes benefit from a new Thread, and should you end up posting something that is too similar to an active Thread, the admins will only lock the Thread and refer you to the correct one, without any repercussions, of course..
