  1. Sure, but I'm afraid there are no unknown ranks below my current one. And down-voting me aimlessly would be abusive.
  2. I am now slightly curious about what his original example was... There are several Threads floating around with theories about Odium's motives really are and some that even claim that he is neither the great über-boss of the Cosmere, nor of the Stormlight Archive, At this point in the SA series, we just do not really know all that much about Odium, other than that he shattered Devotion, Dominium and Honour, and that he brings about the Desolations. His motives for either of these are obscure at best.
  3. It is not about the chronology of the Cosmere, but that the Realmatic knowledge on Scadrial is rather limited at this point. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable and ancient Cosmere Aware Worldhoppers, such as Hoid or Khriss, would be able to make Forging work on Scadrial, but Scadrians wouldn't have come far enough in their research and technology to do so without direct intervention from Harmony or the 17th Shard.
  4. I didn't say that it was impossible impossible, just impossible in this specific context at this specific time in the Cosmere history.
  5. I think I'll go as far as to claim that it is in fact impossible, at least at this point in the Cosmere time-line, when Cosmere awareness and further research into the nature of Investiture are still very limited. Brandon has specifically said that Hemalurgy is universal, while other magic systems for the most part (and those from Sel in particular) need considerable "jury-rigging" to be usable on other planets.
  6. Do note that Kaladin wasn't particularly strong just after bonding with Syl. During the majority of his time as a Bridgeman, most of what he could do was unwittingly use it to heal and strengthen himself as well as redirecting some arrows. Once a Stormform Parshendi gets more used to his/her powers, I predict that they will be able to do more fearsome things that chanting and shooting randomly directed lightning.
  7. But this one isn't abusive at all. It just isn't.
  8. And since there is no known method of using Forgery outside of the Maipon region, this would most likely necessitate a large amount of Worldhopping. Also, I don't think Brandon had had the idea for the Emperor's Soul yet when he wrote the Alloy of Law.
  9. And then again, we can't - as of yet - be absolutely certain Odium is truly evil. He employs despicable measures to attain his goals, and int the specific context of Roshar, I think you could convincingly claim that he can be seen as evil, but we know little of his ultimate goals and intentions. For all we know, he too could have a just cause, just one that is particularly destructive to Sel and Roshar. And just to prematurely deflect the most relevant criticism, we know from WoBs that he aims at being the strongest entity in the Cosmere, but if this is mere hunger for power or if he has some ulterior motive for doing so, we do not know. And just to be clear, I think he's an evil bastard, but it might not be quite as clear cut as that.
  10. If this is possible, I think it would produce some sort of phantom pregnancy, where the body thinks it's pregnant, and behaves as such, but no other living being would be produced from it.
  11. "You make me into a Truthwatcher, because I certainly want to watch you": No, wait... Er... That's both bad and creepy...
  12. I shall make a List of possible ways to abuse the system (just me brainstorming on the subject. No personal experience): Dummy accounts used to up-vote yourself (and/or your friends). Massively up-voting someone else. Massively down-voting some one else (you know, to keep them from taking your place on the rankings or the other way around). Reuptation inflation. If everyone starts getting 100-200 reputation points per day, it deflates the value of each individual up-vote. Also, some people (myself included), tend to be rather annoyed seeing up-votes on posts simply profiting from what other people have said/done ("^This!", "Well put", etc.). I am sure there are other ways to abuse it, but this is all I can think of on the fly.
  13. I think the consensus on this one is that it is talking about (WoR spoiler inc.)
  14. Oh, I assure you, I am always tinkering with Lists. I am currently working on a Master List of Foreshadowing, where I intend to sum up (with the help of the rest of you) all ingenious and subtle foreshadowing that Brandon tends to do, such as hinting at the nature of Szeth's Blade throughout WoK, Vin's earring, etc.. While of course much more rewarding to notice these things for yourself, I find it better to have them pointed out rather than not noticing at all. This has proven to be a huge undertaking, though, so it'll be a ways off before I can put anything up on the site. EDIT: I am surprised you haven't put any hidden messages in your signature. I know I sure have
  15. But could we maybe not keep jumping in to say so? It is a bit annoying that this Thread is being necroed solely because of this, with nothing new to add to the discussion.
  16. ARGH! Still cannot up-vote!
  17. It would be nice to raise it a tad. I spent a lot of time on the forum yesterday, and it's not like I'm up-voting every other post, but the sheer quantity of posts I read (and wanted to up-vote) made me reach the limit quite quickly. I don't mind having a limit to it so that we cannot just up-vote other users into oblivion, but it would be nice to be able to keep up-voting things you like even when you have nothing better to do than hang around the forum all day.
  18. I even read it in French in addition to my three read-throughs in English. Surprisingly well translated.
  19. No, he didn't forget that:
  20. You honestly deserve a Top 10 placement more than me. I theorycraft and yatter, but the "Cosmere Profile Icons" Thread alone makes you deserve a lot of rep. EDIT: And hey, I'm a Highprince! I assume someone else noticed the change? It's morning here, and I've only just woken up.
  21. Neat! I might take a dive into Kurkistan next week. I can at least start by making a List of all of his theorycrafting Threads. I'll keep you posted.
  22. You might have a point there, but you forget that Jasnah (when she eventually gets back to civilization) will be more or less forced into spending time with/looking into Kaladin. I agree that she might not have thought twice about him under other circumstances, but were talking about another Radiant, who's Captain of the Kholin's personal guards. Not to mention his peculiar background of being a surgeon-in-training and a slave with a shash brand. Even if she refuses to be guarded, she will most likely look into him to determine whether or not he is a threat to herself and her family. I am not claiming that they would fall head-over-heels in love, but that they would slowly gain mutual respect for one another and then start warming up to each other. And while Kaladin has certainly been acerbic for most of WoR, it seems like he might finally have regained some of his good spirit. What he initially had (and hopefully is what he has gone back to now) is more of the same no-nonsense attitude that she herself has. Though admittedly, people with that same tendency tend to be rather unforgiving for it towards each other...
  23. May I ask how you tracked down all of these Threads? The forum doesn't seem to have a way to search for any given user's original Threads. And thanks for the compliment! Also, you're not the only one who's intimidated by Kurk. I hadn't actually noticed how neat your sorting was, and with how easily you can yourself decide how to sort them, I do not think adding a "topic" category would clutter it up after all. Go ahead, you have my blessing (as if you needed it...) After skimming through some of my dead Threads, I think it would be nice to have them in a separate list. Even if a theory have been conclusively proven/disproven, the Thread itself will still contain a lot of useful textual references, WoBs, WoPs etc.. Though to avoid confusing non-17th Shard aficionados, I think we should keep separate lists for proven and disproven theories.
  24. I approve of this. Any good List will get my approval! Though how the heck did I get so many mentions on the current list? I'm hardly the most prolific nor capable Thread starter. I will definitely contribute to complete the list. As to your questions: I think we should either have a separate list/section for disproven theories or remove them all-together. The intention behind the list is to make theory-crafting more accessible, right? Then things that have been definitely shot down will end up cluttering up the list. Yes. And I believe well-researched and sourced theories, as well as particularly novel or imaginative ones, should be the ones that get the honourific. I fear it will be impossible to make it accessible if we make too many categories. I think one for each Shardworld, one for the Cosmere and possibly one more specifically for Realmatics should suffice. i don't think so, no. I don't think it would be constructive to make the listing overly complicated. We might also consider removing theories that have been entirely proven by canon. My own "Szeth has an Honourblade" Thread is now completely irrelevant, as it has been proven without a doubt by the information readily available in WoR. My "Renarin's Box" Thread should be relevant, though, as it contains plenty of information about the Box that is not easily found. Unless the Threads digresses into entirely new and interesting things, both disproven and proven things should be removed or moved to a separate list..
  25. Syl states in WoK that she remembers having helped people fight before. Pattern was most likely referring to lesser Spren, such as Flamespren, Rotspren etc, not Nahel Spren.
