Robert Jordan wasn't bad either. If not as explicit, definitely more imaginative.

The age gap is rather easy: I do not think Jasnah would care at all, as long as Kaladin does not come across as immature or juvenile, which I think is unlikely. I think Kaladin might have more of a problem with it, but the biggest obstacle is his lingering mistrust of Lighteyes. He has gotten better, but Jasnah is the pure incarnation of what a Lighteyed woman is supposed to be, and also more of a force of nature than any other of the characters in the series (up to this point). But that is one of the things I really like about the pairing. Both seem to have deep scars, and I think they would be very good for each other in terms of healing those. Even more so than Shallan, really, as Kaladin/Shallan currently seem to be somewhat poisonous to both of them. EDIT: You had me snickering throughout most of that post, but I completely lost it at "Kaladin/The Spanish Inquisition". I lost it again when I remembered the actual Monty Python line.

Dunno, but I've made some 30-40 posts, so the sheer quantity of posts might have helped.

I'll be more likely to write an essay on the subject than a proper fanfic, I'm afraid. But thank you for looking around. And yes, I agree that that particular take on it is rather disgusting. I was imagining it more as Jasnah's scholarly curiosity making her take a lose look at Kaladin's history and current occupation (she'll probably do so out of prudence as well, given her history of protecting her family with borderline paranoia), and then slowly warm up to him. It isn't as much about "curing her" as it is about showing her that all men aren't the same and that there are some with very good and honourable qualities.

I am willing to bet that this is an intentional nod to tWoT.

For a second there, I read "deadliest dad", which I suppose is quite apt as well.

Urk. How will I ever catch up to you?

Really strange timing on that praise, considering my second-to-last post... By the way, you wouldn't happen to know where I could find some good Kaladin/Jasnah fanfic?

Pardon me. 'Tis not MY fault that according to the Law of Syl (or whatever we called it), 17th Shard Threads will eventually degrade into depravity.

I think the Emperor's Soul gets too little attention here. It is arguably his best written book, in terms of concise story-telling and prose, and it gave us a lot of insight into Realmatics. Shai is also a really interesting character, and her relationship and interactions with Gaotona are sweet and well written. Also, Soulforging is also one of the most interesting and innovative magic systems to date.

Such as the Jasnah/Chull one floating around the Syl Thread...

How cool wouldn't it be if your professor turned out to be, say, Kurkistan!

Did we have a certain boundary between Worldbringer and Highprince? I suspect it is 949/950, and though I am getting close, I'm still some 30 up-votes away. I would be content to stay Worldbringer for a while, though. I like the philosophy behind it. EDIT: Strike that. I mixed up Worldbringer with Worldsinger.

I might pop in later with the actual quotes, but I think most of the "squirey" things are from the latter half of the book. Skar and Teft in particular are mentioned as having taken a beating that they shake off a bit too quickly. In the former's case, I think it was his foot that was hurt during the Battle of the Tower, and Kaladin notices that his walking around when he shouldn't really be during the opening chapter of WoR.

When was this???

This is one of my favourite moments as well, and it brought a tear to my eye when I read it. Dalinar definitely seems to be treating Kaladin more and more like a third son. I myself squeed through the entire arena fight and many of the similarly epic moments of the book, but the moments I tend to remember think the most of in hindsight are the subtle ones, such as Bluth's sacrifice, Gaz' redemption (especially considering how proud he was when he finally handed Shallan WoR), the small hints towards Renarin's troubles throughout the book etc.. Another one is Adolin's self-imposed incarceration, although that on is a tad more in-your-face. Adolin is just a sweet boy, isn't he.

GABLARGH! Incredibly cool! It did make me feel even more alone as a Norwegian Sharder, though... EDIT: What was his response when you told him that you were in fact reading Words of Radiance?

We have pointed out the different types of discussions/theory-crafting going on in this Thread. You are correct to point out that most of the arguments in favour of Kaladin's bisexuality is variations of the "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"-argument, but I think most of us here are just happy to ship Kaladin/Adolin etc. even if the factual basing for such a paring is slight at best. I think it would be for the best if we avoided any further post on this particular issue. I agree with you, there is little evidence for some of the ships floating around, but there is no reason to shove it in now that you've gotten your point across.

Since we've been talking so much about the different ways of looking at this, permit me to sum up my positions: Theory-shipping: I think Kaladin/Shallan is a more likely end-game match-up than Adolin/Shallan, but I don't think (read: hope) either of these pairings will last for the reasons stated in one of my previous posts. This is really fringe canon, but I think (read: pray for) there is a good chance that we might perhaps maybe quite possibly hypothetically see a Jasnah/Kaladin match-up. Jasnah is currently built up as pretty scarred and mayhaps asexual, but there is a lot about Kaladin that does not align with her presuppositions about men: he's learned, he's caring, he's a good leader and has a certain wit about him (albeit somewhat acerbic). The best point in his favour, though, is probably that he is very much alike to Dalinar, whom Jasnah has said is the one man she truly respects. I feel quite confident in asserting that Navani and Dalinar might end up together. True, shamefully squeeable, OTP-shipping: Jasnah/Kaladin. No question about it.And I just realised that, while I am normally quite apathetic towards fanfiction, I wouldn't mind reading something about Jasnah/Kaladin. I don't know how to go about finding anything (good) on it, though.

Just a minor point of clarification: how do we know that there are nine secret societies?

Cool. And thanks for the up-vote, I suppose. I hope it was a worthy post!

Well, it's not like Thread hijacking is a new thing. It's really more of a time honoured tradition at this point. And welcome to the forum, Kogiopsis! Nice to see you pop your head. And you make good points, by the way, both when it comes to your comments on sexuality and by pointing out the two kinds of discussions going on here. There are currently three Threads active on the subject of WoR shipping, and they all mix actual musings upon who will end up with whom and straight out shipping. I myself find the former to be the more interesting, but I don't see why we cannot all hang out together=).

At 910 and still a Full Feruchemist. EDIT: 915, and still not a Worldbringer. This has certainly been a roller-coaster of maybes and finally-a-worldbr-oh-wait-false-alarms.
