  1. "If the one who calls himself the Almighty can die, then he is not almighty, and cannot therefore be the Almighty." I'm an atheist myself, so I don't either identify at all with his beliefs, but I follow his reasoning. He basically concludes that there must be another "true" god above the one he sees in his visions, which really isn't far from the truth (of the Cosmere, that is).
  2. Well, the Stormfather definitely seems to be of the latter inclination.
  3. I suspect that no one has the exact details of the fight between Szeth and Gavilar, as Jasnah was the only one who actually saw anything of it (and she only saw the very last moments of it). And Dalinar hardly faced Szeth alone this time around. Szeth was able to give Adolin - quite possibly the greatest duellist in recent time - a decent bashing in front of both Dalinar and an entire army. Given what Dalinar witnessed - and the lack of specific details of the fight six years prior - Dalinar had no reason to suspect that his presence would have made a difference.
  4. I never really had the time to get into Dungeons and Dragons. Could you please explain the system?
  5. I think we're more or less touching on the philosophical definition of Honour here. Is it honourable to be moral? Is it honourable to follow ones vows and beliefs no matter the cost? Is it honourable to break ones vow if that promise would have you kill an innocent third party? I think it is mostly a matter of perspective, and that it is possible to be honourable and still do the "wrong" thing. And as Moogle, it is possible to be honourable and a despicable bastard at the same time. That also seems to be the direction Brandon is going, considering Kaladin's musings upon the subject with Syl.
  6. I wonder how the rest of the Stormlight-crew will react if Szeth actually ends up bonding a Skybreaker-spren (have those been confirmed to be Highspren?). "Hey, yeah, I know I've tried to kill you guys, and I've massacred all over Roshar, but I... um... am supposed to help you rebuild the Knights Radiant."
  7. I think unlikely that it is far outside of the continuity. Renarin is described as watching empty spaces quite early in the Way of Kings, and while I am not quite sure if this is common for autistics or not, I suspect he was seeing (if not communicating with) Glys already around the time of the start of the book. I think the limit of one Spren for the Orders is largely the result of Spren Politics. The Cryptics decided it was wise to send a forerunner, Ivory's faction felt it best to have nothing to do with humans at all (wasn't it mentioned that he betrayed his kind by bonding Jasnah?) and the Stormfather forbade the Honourspren to return to the Physical Realm. There is little that suggests whether the Ring sent more Spren or not, and we know nothing of the rest of the Nahel spren. Presumably most of them would be hesitant to return, but I don't see why they would all restrict themselves quite as firmly to just one.
  8. Agreed. She needs to actually be around Kaladin (when he eventually rejoins the group) for them to be able to court.
  9. I love how this topic was heavily in favour of Kelsier right at the start, but has now shifted more or less entirely to Dalinar (disregarding the actual votes, that is).
  10. Is Ym's Spren a different individual than Glys (Renarin's Spren)? If yes, were they ever bonded at the same time? I think it is quite likely that there were two proto-Truthwatchers at the same time during the Words of Radiance. If the answer is yes on both accounts, this would conclusively prove that the Radiants aren't limited to one Knight per Order this time around.
  11. Ym quite clearly had access to the Progression Surge, which would make him either a Truthwatcher or an Edgedancer. Since Renarin has been revealed to be a Truthwatcher, and Lift is an Edgedancer, there is quite clearly more than just one of each Spren. Unless the Renarin's Spren (Glys) and Ym's Spren are one and the same. I think this unlikely, though, as it doesn't seem to fit with the timing, given that the Words of Radiance happen over the course of a little over a Rosharan month. I don't think Glys would have had the time to rebond someone else and regain his sentience quite as fast.
  12. That... is actually a very good idea. I do wonder, though, if there would not still be an unbalance due to the enormous difference in numbers between humans and Koloss.
  13. Makes me feel somewhat better, yes. I don't claim to specialise in the illustrations. I prefer the text itself, in which I am prepared to search quite obsessively for whatever takes my fancy (such as references to character's ages and Renarin's box).
  14. At your service, Sir!
  15. You might be right, but it can still be interpreted as referring to a specific group of people. "That which was lost" could refer to the search for Stormseat or Urithiru, and the proclaimed destruction could then be limited to them.
  16. I randomly down-voted one of your posts (and then up-voted something else). You were indeed Returned at 1179 and Twinborn at 1180.
  17. Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that one. Darn, I did all this work on my previous post only to be ninja'd with better information
  18. This post was completely redone. Old one can be seen in the spoiler tags. Ok, as far as I can tell, this is all of the ones that have appeared in the books: Kholin: The Kholin glyph(s) appear in three versions throughout the series. The coolest version of the Kholin glyphs can be found on the symbol in Dalinar's chapter sigil. I do not know if it has been specifically stated that these are indeed the Kholin glyphs, but they mark Dalinar's chapters and match the description in-world of a Tower and a Crown. The next one can be seen on the Battle Maps for the Battle of the Tower and for the Battle against the Stormform Parshendi. The last one is a rather strangely twisted one that appears on the illustration page for the Bridge Four tattoos. Sadeas: Along with the Kholin one, it appears on the Battle Map for the Battle of the Tower. Roion: Appears on the Battle Map for the Battle against the Stormform Parshendi. Aladar: Appears on the Battle Map for the Battle against the Stormform Parshendi. Sebarial: Appears on the Battle Map for the Battle against the Stormform Parshendi. There is also one on the Illustration of Shardbearer Battle Stances from Shallan's sketchbook. At least I am fairly certain that the one in the bottom right corner is the symbol for one of the Highprinces. I think it was worked out by someone on the forum, but I can't remember who it was said to be. EDIT: Redid the whole thing with proper sourcing.
  19. I am not so sure that we can assuredly say that the writer is not human: I don't think that the last two sentences here are quite as tightly linked as has been suggested. I feel like both "men" and "them" are referring specifically to the previous "Knights Radiants". The author would then not be a Radiant, but could still be human.
  20. The Ultimate List is hopelessly hard to navigate, and as far as I know, no one has tried to filter out all the ones that have been answered. A new attempt at cataloguing all unanswered (and relevant) questions would be welcome.
  21. Are the chat-rooms still active? This seems like a lot of fun.
  22. Question: What does a Truthless do when 1. no one has picked up his Oathstone, and 2. he doesn't know where his Oathstone is? I should probably add that I cannot sense it at all, as Szeth probably could.
  23. Sell. Eshonai will become a Radiant, either towards the end of Stones Unhallowed or during her own book.
  24. Actually, I was wrong. There is something inherent in Hemalurgy that makes spiked individuals prone to outside manipulation. From the Coppermind: The information is taken partially from the epigraphs of the Hero of Ages and partially from the Mistborn annotations. That said, Rashek might have made this flaw even easier to use on his artificial constructs (Kandra, Koloss and Inquisitors), in which case it should be possible to revert it. Sazed might also have found a way to circumvent it. If not, than it would - as you yourself point out - be rather risky to send them Worldhopping to a world with a Hostile Shard.
  25. That control mechanism was built in by the Lord Ruler in the first place, so I don't see why Harmony couldn't remove it if he was so inclined. And it doesn't really mash with his Intent, nor Sazed personally, to control them directly.
