  1. @HydrogenAlpha: Nice to see another person who knows of Kal's certain death in 5. Though, I think that the clash of champions thing could actually occur in book 5, with Kaladin dying, yet his spirit still finishing it.
  2. How in the heck did this not make it into the book! Then again, maybe this way it can get a hugo for short story. Brandon says that he's weak in the short story, be we all know to be nothing more than fiction.
  3. The whole interesting thing to me, is that in the books, Brandon hasn't really hinted that Taln isn't who he says he is, but to us, he's gone full out crazy about it. Could it be his way of messing with the 17th Shard?
  4. This is great! Looks like a lot of work went into this! One of the biggest things that I see is that it's in this weird sort of omniscient. If you decided to choose a main PoV, it could be a lot more gripping. I don't know who you'd necessarily do (maybe me ), but it would definitely smooth stuff over. Edit: I just read more carefully, and saw that you did choose yourself as a primary viewpoint, sort of, but maybe transposing Meta's write ups would be easier.
  5. Or have we... Dun dun DUNNN!
  6. Firefights done, and Alcatraz and Shadows of Self together amount to maybe 125k words, about half a normal Brandon book.
  7. Isn't Warbreaker around 300 years before Way of Kings? My money's on Vasher, or maybe another Returned. maybe.
  8. It's where one goes out and preaches the gospel for two years. Technically, you really aren't supposed to read anything non gospelly, but you still can communicate with your family.
  9. @loganmatthewjohnson: You're going to let a silly little thing like a mission stop you from reading Sanderson? What else is p-day for? (And, to ensure no hard feelings, I'm LDS as well and mean nothing more than this foolish quip than for it to be a foolish quip).
  10. Oh, I'm mostly moderating myself, because I'd love to talk about White Sands, but I also need to keep it under wraps, so even going so far as to confirm the spelling for Baon feels a little like pushing it for me. You're absolutely fine. If he tells you something without asking about it, then you're cool. Are you sure he said that Baon was a bowman, though? Or maybe that's changed since the first draft, which I have not read.
  11. My first real fantasy was probably Mistborn, though if you count stuff like Harry Potter, that was probably first. The only problem is that starting with the gold makes everything else seem kind of garbagey.
  12. @Herowannabe: Yeah, Baon is the correct spelling (I'm like 95% sure). He's in White Sand. Now, let's hurry up and not talk any more about him, before we accidentally incur the wrath of the moderators.
  13. Hey, I'm curious about Zucchini too. Do you mind adding me to the PM as well? It would be nice to know exactly what gets you banned, and where the boundary is crossed.
  14. Maybe Nightblood is not good for (this) world, but I can see it being awesome on Roshar. For all of his existence, he's had trouble determining what evil is. Now, he is in the position where there is a power that is almost the definition of evil. It's not quite exact, but Nightblood should have no trouble accepting it. (Of course, Nightblood and Odium are in slightly different weight categories).
  15. Haha! Finally, confirmation about Baon! Thanks, man.
  16. When I read this post, my first action was to check the date on my computer. You storming son of a Parshendi, you. I second the motion: No spoilers, but how was it?
  17. Okay. This is borderline a joke, but it just fits. This epigraph has always bothered me because it doesn't make sense with what we know. Three of sixteen ruled, but now the broken one reigns implies four entities of Shardic power, with Odium as one of the three. I believe I might have solved it. It all chalks down to basic human error. These death rattles are the ones recorded by Taravangian, so we have no way of actually knowing whether or not they had the right word. The one I have in mind is "reigns"... What if, the dying person actually meant, "Three of sixteen ruled, but now the broken one rains?" Dalinar describes the Stormfather as broken many times, and the spren just seems... off. Throughout many situations in both WoK and WoR, he does things that don't seem particularly smart or honorable. And the Stormfather is in charge of the highstorms. So, whaddya all think? Silly coincidence, or possible theory? (Also, if anyone has said this before, I'm sorry).
  18. I like this a lot. Better yet, this could easily be verified by asking Brandon. Just for fun, let's try and list which Shards would be "good" and which would be "bad". Good Preservation: Windrunners, I think. Devotion: No clue. Endowment: Again, no clue. We really don't know too much about the other orders. Honor: Ironically, I think that Shallan's theme of truths tie in the closest with pure Honor. Cultivation: I feel like I should know. Maybe Edgedancer? Bad Odium: Thrill, maybe? Ruin: Whoever's in charge of the death rattles. Seems atium-esque to me. Dominion: I dunno.
  19. Dude, Clancy, I am in love with this idea. And just in time, during my reread of Warbreaker! It's almost like you (life)sensed what I was doing! I jest... the name's Bartholomew. I am a remnant of the ancient Chedesh, and spend my time hunting the fragments of info of my culture that remain. Also, for the sixth heightening, you could have it so that you automatically get your breath back, instead of spending another action.
  20. Yeah, I'll buy this. Nice theory.
  21. Eh. This guy, you know, is a monster. He writes around 3000 words a day, so assuming Stones Unhallowed will be 300k (if it truly is shorter. Then again, that's what he said for Words of Radiance, and we know what happened there ), then it's only four months, tops, for the first draft. And for Brandon, the first draft is the biggest deal. I honestly would not be surprised either way. The only disappointing thing is hearing Shadows of Self was pushed back... I was really hankering for some more Mistborn between Stormlight...
  22. Yeah. What Swimmingly said. Though to extrapolate on that, I feel like he's (slightly) off. He's right in that each metal has a more powerful affect in it's natural area, so Atium has awesome hemalurgy while Lerasium has awesome allomancy. Also, the "awesomeness" seems to be available for all, like you said it should. Anyone can spike anyone when you're using Atium, just as anyone can ingest lerasium. However, I believe that those "awesome" effects are extra: Atium can still spike for burning Atium, and Lerasium can do different things in the hands (stomach?) of a Mistborn who knows what he's doing.
  23. I put a theory on it, saying basically what Tempest has said here. I believe that Nightblood effectively is a Shardblade, except one at the same class of power as an honorblade.
  24. Kind of, Kurk. I think what Observer is saying is that there are many similarities that have been observed between Nightblood and Honorblades, namely how they are both function as Shardblades, are both heavily Invested, and both require a constant stream of Investiture in order to function.
  25. I would still assume that they would do three White Sand graphic novels, though. I don't see how you could pack at least 600 thousand words into a single graphic novel.
