  1. I started WoT in 1990 when it came out, I did find Sanderson before he took on WoT, I was looking for a stand alone book so picked up Elantris. (So much for that idea ) I am just hoping I make it to finish all 10 books, and then some to read Hoids book. .
  2. Did he actually order them Killed? or did Kalak say something like get rid of them, or just tell Amaram to keep the shards and Amaram came up with the killing/slavery part?
  3. I took the information of Ur being the original name to correlate to the Mesopotamian City/State of Ur where the Ziggurat of Ur was built. Ur has been at times linked to the biblical town of Abraham, though some scholars believe that is a different city named Ura or Urfa.
  4. pages from Kindle “They got these pancakes here,” she said, “with things cooked into them. Supposed to be super tasty, and they eat them during the Weeping. Ten varieties. I’m gonna steal one of each.” Edgedancer (p. 79). wouldn’t be … pancakes, would it?” “Sure,” Hauka said, sensing an opportunity. “Sun Day pancakes. You can have one, if you—” “Tuk-cake,” Hauka said, feeling exhausted. Edgedancer (p.88, 91). One of the pancakes was salty, with chopped-up vegetables. Another tasted sweet. The third variety was fluffier, almost without any substance to it, though there was some kind of sauce to dip it in. Edgedancer (p. 147). Lift chewed on her pancake. It was a dense variety, with mashed-up paste in the center that was too sticky and salty. The one beside it was covered in little crunchy seeds. Neither were as good as the other two varieties she’d tried over the last few hours. Edgedancer (p. 190). “Write this to Gawx,” Lift said around bites of pancake. “‘ They got good food here. These pancakes, with lots of variety. One has sugar in the center.’” Edgedancer (p. 190). The pancakes were cold, and unfortunately of a variety she’d already tried— the ones with sweet stuff in the middle. Her favorite. Maybe the Stump wasn’t all bad. Edgedancer (p. 224). ... finishing off the last pancake, a type with a real thick, almost mealy texture. “Okay,” she proclaimed, standing up. “That’s nine. What’s the last one? I’m ready.” “The tenth is dedicated to Tashi,” the scribe said absently as she wrote. “It is more a thought than a real entity. We bake nine, and leave the last in memory of Him.” Edgedancer (p. 261).
  5. In world book, but also relevant to the book, Being Szeth's book, and probably Skybreakers? Truth or Truthless is relevant. Knight of High Truth King, Knight, Keeper, Ketek, .. of Hallowed Truths If K is replaceable with C as in the Alethi script only has K for the hard sound. Then could use words like Crusade, or Connection which is becoming an important theme for book 5. Crusade of Hallowed Truths Crusade of ? Truthless/Truth
  6. My thoughts are just that he does not hunt just anynyone and without a specific reason to justify it he couldn't hunt her. Since she had been hunted by Nale (and escaped multiple times) she would be a quarry a "Hunter" would want to hunt.
  7. I had actually thought about this. I am thinking that many are varieties of crepes. I found 8 plus the 10th Tashi one, though the 7th could be the same as the other 2 sweet varieties. Sun Day pancakes Tuk-cake salty, with chopped-up vegetables. Another tasted sweet. variety was fluffier, almost without any substance to it, though there was some kind of sauce to dip it in dense variety, with mashed-up paste in the center that was too sticky and salty. One has sugar in the center. a variety she’d already tried— the ones with sweet stuff in the middle. (This could be the same as 3 or 6) a type with a real thick, almost mealy texture. 10. The tenth is dedicated to Tashi My guesses. 2 = standard savory Crepe with vegetable filling 3 = Sweet pancake - Either this is one with sweet filling, or a Sweet pancake like Brown sugar pancakes, or maple syrup in the batter pancakes. 4 = fluffy pancake like buttermilk pancakes, or one of the recipes where you whip the egg whites into a meringue and fold it in. one of the - this could be a Beghrir type pancake with honey sauce. - or Netherlands Poffertjes, Aebleskiver's 5 = Salted Caramel Crepe, Russian blinis with caviar 6= Swedish pancake with powdered sugar 7= pancake/crepe with fruit/jam filling, or sweetened cheese filling 8. Buckwheat flapjacks, Potato pancakes, Other options I considered. Finnish Pannu Kakku, German pancakes, Indonesian Serabi, Poffertjes, Aebleskiver's ...
  8. There is a big difference though, Shallan is the only one we know of that is using her own deadeye blade that she still has some connection to, and did not lose all of her radiant abilities.
  9. I have the same feelings, I think back to the 4-1 Duel, and think that then there may not have been any additional benefits he was getting, if there were it would have been subtle (Like Kal "moving like the wind" pre-Syl). There were moments in OB where he was fighting the thunderclast, and the amount of damage he took that I thought maybe he was getting some benefits, or if all his instincts to duck, move were his alone.
  10. Yes Lezian is boring, flat as a character.@Naerin makes great points though! What I also see is that The Pursuer is also a way to show what has been hinted at throughout, and mentioned several times in RoW, on how the shards splinters intent takes over, and how CS's can even create their own intent. This from @robardin His single-minded obsession was a step towards the "sprenification" type of insanity that the Fused were prone to exhibiting.
  11. I do not know that we have not seen it before or that it is different. Looking at the early Kaladin flashback chapters, he was getting benefits without knowing it. He speaks specifically with Syl on whether he ever was as good as he thought or it was her being around. Adolin took on multiple opponents and then a shardbearer, without an actual bond yet. I do not see how Adolin could not also have similar fights. He has always been an expert with the sword, dueling and at battle, add in that he had Maya at his back for most of the fight. If he is getting a benefit, it may be more along the lines of having an edge in speed, agility.
  12. For Venli I beleive it is Cultivation. My first thought while reading is that it was Dalinar, (granted by that time i was sleep deprived) so I am not sure now. I am not sure where Kaladin would get a familiarity with Cultivation, other than she is part of Roshar and I would need to go back and keep an look out in next re-reads. Similarly he unlike Dalinar who heard him in visions would not have familiarity with Tanavast.
  13. My speculation is that Wit was not the winner, but that the build up of his monologue suggests that the "memories" stored may not be the full truth, and instead tell a false story. So not a complete failure. The terror is from the breaths being destroyed, not Odium learning them. T-Odium is not as subtle, is new to the power and though he came out ahead by changing Hoids memories. Not knowing more than it was just investiture, he stole them in the process leaving clues that something happened.
  14. That could be too, I mentioned false memories based on Wits comment "make them know the truths that you have made up." But truths that have been tweaked would be even better.
  15. I agree it is quite possible that wit was finally outwitted. Odium can't read his mind but probably can still sense emotions and passions. But after re-reading it again I am less inclined to think that the fear was a fake by Wit.
  16. What made me think Hoid was setting odium up with false information is his monologue before hand, he basically says so. (emphasis mine) How do you give a Shard truths you made up? He didn't just find him, Hoid the ultimate sneak and person who has stayed beyond notice and hidden made himself findable. He has never been known before to do anything that is not planned out, and as he mentions to Shallan I always figured that Hoid was this third kind, setting up Odiun ( T or R) with false memories is just that kind of nudge.
  17. There are some explanations in Venli's flashbacks with Ulim, It was slow and difficult for the voidspren that were gathering with the Everstorm in Shadesmar to leave there. The Everstorm needed to be pulled from Shadesmar to Roshar. I think might be some kind of connection like a perpendicularity between Braize and Roshar through Shadesmar, that allows the Fused to travel through it.
  18. I think there are enough oddities that this was not a one or the other won situation, both played, dirty tricks. If it were exactly as he imagined it, that mean either way. The fear He shows is actually one of the things that leads me to beleive he was playing Odium. For someone like Hoid to "panic" is odd, but then what can odium sense? emotions, Passions. Oh no don't take my important memories in these breaths! That just seems too obvious for a trickster like Hoid. Loosing the breaths along with those memories, and losing the memories of the visit is what I think he may not have expected.
  19. The bond may have been broken but there was still some connection there, it did not need to be re-bonded like a shard bearers. I assume also that she did not break the bond while Testament was in Blade form.
  20. I just realized that one benefit they had was that ROdium had a blind spot revolving around Renarin, and TOdium knows this and that Sja-Anat was working against Odium.
  21. And yet BS really like to twist what we think we know and think will happen. I agree the evidence is there, and the only things that point to the speculation being wrong are the references to Old Thaidakar, and that the actions of the GB not aligning with Kelsier What we also have plenty of hints and references in RoW on investiture and intent, Kel is the "Survivor" much like the Pursuer or even Shards. My guess is that we do not know Kel now, that reasons he may now be ok with what ever the GB/ Survivorists do as long as it means his survival, is that like the Pursuer, his own intent is taking over. Kel was never a "good" guy. Add power and being a CS what morality he used from others to control his own sanity, instincts and psychopathy could be gone. Adding Quotes:
  22. I think it is just that, an authors Easter egg acknowledgement of another author. I have seen it done in other books. The sign not having a name and having a wheel on it could be referencing Wheel Of Time, as the Inns in those books all had picture signs.
  23. I agree I would have loved to have Navani's flashbacks, I loved seeing her perspective for the prologue, and her memories of past events. Eshonai/Venli were ok, but I do not think we gained much in the flashbacks themselves that we did not already know.
  24. I agree, and Chiri-Chiri's POV (and the giant skulls) backs that up even more. I think that whatever was done to the Singers to deprive them of the bond with Spren, creating "slave form" Parshmen had a much bigger effect across the planet, limiting the bonds, clouding the minds for many more lifeforms.
  25. I think it is possible he is playing Odium, remembering his sneaking into the palace to rescue Design there was a big monologue on making himself bland, unnoticed, Passions and emotions are what Odium "sees", this could have been part of the act.
